Civil War 2024?!? | A Conversation with Tucker Max

A Note from James:Civil war… Honestly, I had an Uber driver the other day and he asked me, in the middle of the drive, "Hey, do you have your go bag?" And I'm like, "What's that?" And he said when the civil war starts - "and it's going to start any day, definitely before the 2024 election," he said - "you need to have your go bag. So wherever you are, you can just go right up into the mountains. Put up your tent, get your plasma lights, get your almond butter and seeds and honey. And you better learn how to like forage for vegetables and hunt and start a fire." I'm like, "What are you talking about?" And he pointed to the passenger seat next to him.He had a go bag ready in the Uber car. He said it could happen anytime where he just can't, you can't go back to the city. You can't go back to your home because the Civil War has started. And I got nervous. I think as I get older, I really don't want the status quo to change that much. And, there's a movie coming out, "Civil War", Texas and the federal government are having these conflicts and you're about to hear more about that.So let's get right into it…A few years ago, a guy who's a regular guest on the podcast - has been since 2014. I can't believe this is the 10th year I'm doing this, but I love doing it. But one of my first guests, anyway, he came on in 2020, he said, "James, you're hearing it from me. Now there's going to be a civil war."I said, "no way it's impossible," but now it's like in the news. I still don't believe there's going to be any kind of civil war at least one where people are shooting at each other with guns, which sounds ridiculous to me, but now at least it's the, in the public discussion and there's a movie coming out and people are nervous about this upcoming election. So here we go. Tucker Max, coming back on the show to explain a little bit more why he predicted this, what he predicts now, and what will lead up to a potential civil war in 2024. The conversation didn't make me that happy, but I always prefer to be informed than not informed. So here we go. Episode Description:Tucker Max discusses a civil war prediction within the United States, made by an Uber driver who believes it would happen before the 2024 election. Max talks about the current political climate and the possible scenarios that could lead to a civil confrontation, mentioning that the war has already started in some respects. He also discusses the recent developments with states ignoring federal mandates or creating their own laws, leading towards a more decentralized form of governance. Additionally, the conversation shifts to personal memoirs, where Max discusses his work teaching others how to write memoirs and understanding their truths. He suggests that memoir writing is a constant process of truth discovery and self-acknowledgement. Episode Summary:00:08 Introduction: An Unexpected Conversation with an Uber Driver01:23 The Civil War Prediction: A Guest's Insight02:47 Interview with Tucker: A Deep Dive into Predictions02:59 The Texas Scenario: A Civil War Starting Point03:31 The Cultural Divide: Left vs Right04:28 The Communist Threat: A Discussion on Ideologies08:20 The Shift in American Politics: A Historical Perspective11:17 The Border Crisis: A Constitutional Battle14:50 The Future of America: Predictions and Possibilities29:57 The 2024 Election: A Potential Flashpoint32:14 The Power of Propaganda and Tribalism33:12 The Shocking Reality of COVID-1933:48 The Ongoing Civil War38:14 The Future of Elections and the Potential for Conflict41:47 The Collapse of Empires and the Importance of Community43:12 The Current State of Safety and the Fragility of the System49:01 The Importance of Self-Reliance and Personal Responsibility57:37 The Challenges of Writing a Memoir01:02:00 The Power of Truth in Memoir Writing01:04:28 The Launch of the Memoir Mastermind ------------What do YOU think of the show? Hey folks, in today's episode of the Climate Confident podcast I had the pleasure of sitting down (again!) with Steve Willis to talk in a little more depth about the idea of the ocean as a nation - which he mentioned briefly on last week's instalment of the show.Steve's concept is a fascinating one, and we spent the whole episode discussing the potential benefits and challenges of such an idea. We talked about the steps that would need to be taken to turn this vision into a reality, and how we could start building a public discussion around it.In addition to discussing the idea itself, we also talked about the potential for turning it into a Netflix series and how storytelling can play a role in raising awareness and inspiring action.Overall, it was a thought-provoking episode and I hope you'll enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed recording it!Here are the links that Steve mentioned during the episode:Steve's LinkedIn profileThe green stories linkThe SoundCloud recording of some of the storiesLink to buy the e-book directOr the physical book direct from the publisherThanks for tuning in and I hope you'll join us for the next episode!Your Space JourneyHey Fellow Space Enthusiasts! The 2021 National Lawyers Convention took place November 11-13, 2021 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. The topic of the conference was "Public and Private Power: Preserving Freedom or Preventing Harm?" The second day of the conference commenced with a showcase panel on "Private Control Over Public Discussion."Online platforms host a growing share of public discussion and debate. As private businesses, they have been free to develop and implement their own content moderation policies, free of First Amendment constraints. But as the amount of speech hosted on a few platforms has grown, the resulting concentration of control over that speech has sparked questions about the power of private companies to stifle lawful expression. As Justice Clarence Thomas recently noted, the Court soon will need to consider how existing legal doctrines apply to these highly concentrated, privately owned, digital platforms. Part of the solution, he suggests, might lie with common law doctrines like common carrier or public accommodation – doctrines that might permit regulation that limits the right of private platforms to exclude. But what of the First Amendment interests of the platforms themselves? Do these corporations have a protected expressive interest in declining to carry speech which is lawful but which they find objectionable? How should we think about the digital platform model – are they more like a communications network distributing information, more like publishers that actively curate content and associate themselves with hosted expression, or do they toggle back and forth? Finally, should the concentration of private power over speech change how we think about public and private threats to free expression? Private businesses are presumptively free to set terms and conditions for the use of their own property. Have digital platforms assumed a degree of control over public discourse, sufficient to alter that presumption? Is some form of regulation appropriate to protect against private threats to liberty? Or is government intrusion into private decision-making still the greater threat?Featuring:Prof. Jane Bambauer, Professor of Law, University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of LawProf. Randy E. Australians support science and having policy informed by the best scientific evidence, but in the recent federal election campaign, science was in short supply. So what more should scientists and the scientific community do to encourage evidence-based policy to tackle the big issues of our time? What responsibilities to scientists have to engage directly with the public, particularly in the frequently hostile environment of social media? And how can we tackle the rise of anti-science? On this Policy Forum Pod, we’re joined by two of nation’s leading scientists – Anna-Maria Arabia and Ian Chubb – to put science and science policy under the microscope. Our expert panel also discuss why science isn’t always at the forefront of national debates, the importance of moving away from short-termism when it comes to implementing robust science policy, and how science is presented and debated. Anna-Maria Arabia is Chief Executive of the Australian Academy of Science. She was Principal Adviser to the Hon Bill Shorten. She has worked in senior policy roles in both social and economic portfolios. Ian Chubb was Vice-Chancellor of both Flinders University and the Australian National University, and has been made a Companion of the Order of Australia. He served as Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2011 to 2016, and is an Emeritus Fellow at Crawford School. Our presenters this week – Quentin and Martyn – also discuss how the recent raids on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation have underscored the importance of transparency and public debate. What’s more, they also go over how you – our listeners – can win a mug. Get listening!
