Industrial Talk is onsite at Hexagon LIVE and talking to Joe Caestano and Stephan Schomberg with Elevotec, Inc. about asset management C-Suite buy-in and creating a resilient operation.  Here are some quick points: Educate the C-suite on the importance of asset management. This is often the biggest challenge, as C-suites are often focused on the bottom line and may not see the value in investing in asset management. However, it is important to show them how asset management can save money in the long run by reducing downtime and increasing efficiency. Use a three-pronged approach to asset management: people, practice, and products. This means focusing on the human element (people), the processes and procedures (practice), and the technology (products). All three elements are important for successful asset management. Embrace the "enable, evolve, elevate" motto. This means starting small and gradually improving your asset management processes over time. There is no silver bullet, so it is important to be patient and persistent. Take advantage of new technologies to collect and analyze data. This data can be used to make better decisions about asset maintenance and improve efficiency. However, it is important to have a good understanding of the data before making decisions. Here are some additional thoughts on the conversation: It is important to continuously educate and collaborate with others to stay up-to-date on the latest asset management practices and technologies. Asset management is a journey, not a destination. There will always be challenges, but it is important to be persistent and never give up. Asset management is not just about saving money. It is also about improving safety, environmental impact, and compliance. Welcome everyone! A little shopkeeping before we start, don't forget to get your tickets for this Saturday's upcoming webinar, Saturday, June 11th with Dr. Simon Curtis and Sarah Logie and it will be on Hoof Horn Infection. With your tickets, you will get access to the interactive webinar, a full recording of the webinar, afterwards, your questions answered in an open Q and a, a certificate of attendance or CPD or CE points and PDFs of studies, papers, and key takeaways. Also, if you happen to be in the neighbourhood of Schomberg, Ontario on June 17th from 1 pm to 5 PM  - Foot for Thought is hosting a clinic called “Casting Call - Foot Cast Applications for Case Management of Surgical Medical and Podiatry Issues. The speakers in this one are Dr. Orlaith Cleary, Chris Gerber, Tristan Miles and Elisa Miller. This will be a good one, we haven't been able to have a Foot for Thought event in quite a while. So it will be nice to see everybody there. RSVP to andrea@mpequine.com to attend.  Today I am speaking with my good friend, Daniel Bennett, AWCF. After hearing a couple of episodes where guests and I were discussing the AW exam, Danny reached out and suggested that we might have a few of our concepts a little misconstrued on what is involved in the exam and he wanted to clear that up. As you will hear, Daniel is coming at this from a very interesting vantage point and his information is current and very helpful. This whole episode was basically Danny's idea and is in the format that you would typically find on his podcast, the Lockdown Farrier Podcast. If you haven't already, you should definitely check it out and subscribe. You will learn a ton. It is very focused on education and Danny has had many guests who are at the forefront of research in our trade. I am very thankful that Danny took some time out of his fishing vacation on a Sunday afternoon to discuss all things AW, if you are in the midst of preparing for and attempting this exam, I'm sure you will find a lot of the information here very helpful, and it will help dispel a lot of myths. You've probably heard over the years about what is involved. It could even save you from practicing for the wrong things or surprises on exam day. Now, if you're just at the beginning of your certification journey and the AW seems like a daunting far-off goal, please don't disregard this particular episode. Ever the educator, Danny shares a lot of information about preparing for any exam.  There is also a video version of this episode where you can see Daniel's presentation as well. You can find it HERE I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Ever thought of monetizing the surplus?  Our guests this week sure have, and they took it a couple steps further as they grew a full thriving farm! This week’s Thriving Farmer Podcast proudly features Lex and Beth Antoinc of Providence Hill Farm. Providence Hill Farm is a family run regenerative vegetable farm nestled in the heart of King Township between Nobleton and Schomberg, Ontario. Their unique regenerative methods focus on improving soil health by increasing organic matter using cultivation methods that do not disturb the soil structure. The aim is to increase biodiversity, water retention, crop health and, most importantly, nutrient density. Although they are not a certified organic farm, their methods far exceed the requirement of organic certification. Join us as we discuss how they organize and run their unique operation!   You’ll hear: Why Lex and Beth decided to start selling the crops of their farming side project 1:37 How Providence Hill approach farmer’s markets 3:51 How Providence Hill has widened their production 6:52About the unique methods Beth and Lex utilize when creating salad mixes 9:56 How Lex and Beth maintain a “relaxed” schedule while keeping productive 12:49 How they go about increasing the average value of transactions for existing customers 25:11 What Beth and Lex would change about their farming operation given the opportunity to turn back time 35:25 Why Providence Hill keeps their help (primarily) in the family 40:14 The biggest mistakes Beth and Lex see newer farmers making 50:59 How they distribute compost 59:46 Their favorite farming tool 1.00:52 Where can you find out more about Lex, Beth, and Providence Hill Farm 1.08:29   About the Guests:Beth and Lex moved to their 12.5 acre property about an hour north of Toronto 16 years ago with the goal of raising their 3 kids in a rural setting and growing some food for themselves, as well as dabbling in some cut flower production and on-farm dog boarding to supplement their income while still allowing them to both work from home while raising the children.  Over time Lex became extremely interested in some of the newer small scale farming techniques and the family began building their market farm.  Now in their 5th year of farming, all 3 of the kids are fully involved in the business as well. Providence Hill Farm grows salad greens, market vegetables, microgreens, edible flowers and cut flowers using all-natural, regenerative farming techniques, focusing on low/no till methods, heavy compost amendments and the use of 13 caterpillar tunnels for season extension.  They are also in the process of adding a mushroom grow room to their operation, and a new on-site farm store for retail sales which will include an attached licensed kitchen/ workshop space.  They are expanding their sales to include a market-style point system CSA this season for the first time, in addition to their farmers market sales.  They are also continually expanding their line of value-added items as well as bringing in items such as meat, fish, grains etc from other farms in their area. They firmly believe that the key to a successful family run farm is to continue to evolve and adapt the strategies for running the operation to match the current life stages, needs and personalities of the people who are involved in the day to day running of the farm. Katie believes in a holistic approach to your personal healing & wholeness.  Katie Schomberg is the modern-day medicine woman, The Rosewater Healer. She is a psychic, intuitive, and guide, offering her services via Breathwork, Human Design, Spirit Sessions, Reiki, and Flower Remedies (coming soon). Her work guides women to become aware, developing a deep self-trust and understanding of their individual soul-archetype. Her private sessions, group events, podcast, book, and retreats support women to wake-up, show-up, and dive-deep into their personal healing journey.  Katie believes that we hold old patterns and belief systems in our bodies, that keep us from living a life of freedom. When we choose to let go of what is no longer serving us and step into our power, we can heal not only ourselves, but the world around us. Her personal story of healing and reclamation, has shown her that returning home is an inside>out process. We have to go internal and begin to FEEL. We must feel it all>>>our hurts, our wounds, our desires, our wants, our joy, our innate knowing, and our giftings, to truly connect back to spirit. This is what her work embodies. She has worked with women individually in sessions, facilitated retreats, held workshops, in-person events, and online teachings that have empowered and brought healing for the collective over for the past five years. She resides in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina with her three unschooled boys, bullmastiff pup, and her husband of 19 years. My Morning Practice: meditation/breathwork/akashic records, morning pages, tarot, flower remedies (if my body is asking for it), + hot tonic - and I ALWAYS move my body in some way during the day.  My Favorite Tonic Recipe as of late: - “Heart Open” Cacao - use your favorite, enough for 16 oz Dandelion (Dandy) Tea - 1 tbsp  Collagen - 1 scoop Mushrooms - use a mix of your favorite, I have been using Lion's Mane and Chaga lately in mine. Ginger - finely grate just a touch  Shilajet - 1 dropper full Bee Pollen - 1 dropper full Coconut Mana - just a little (1tsp - you could substitute Ghee as well) Dash of Pink Himalayan salt Sweetner (optional) - sometimes I use Monk Fruit I put all of this in my blender, add 16-20 oz of hot water and blend. I use my favorite mugs by my friend, who's an amazing potter...and then pour and enjoy. They are perfect for just a few sips at a time. I add the extra drink into my favorite Kinto Travel Tumbler, and sip on this all morning…allowing the heart to expand and receive the intention of the day.   You can find Katie at: www.rosewaterhealer.com IG - @rosewaterhealer katie@rosewaterhealer.com And a special offer fo our listeners! We first encountered Cynthia in concert, on the last stop of her tour earlier this fall, in Schomberg, Ontario. Our take away from that encounter was that beyond being a great pianist and vocalist, Cynthia has the ability, through her music, to take you by the hand and lead you to a familiar place, one of nostalgia. There's an effortlessness she brings to bear on the intricacies that is imperative in the jazz musical genre. There was a sense, at least for us that if she could make beautiful such level of complexity, that there was a way that we, none singer-songwriters and piano maestros, you know, everyday people, that there was a way could transcend the often complex and complicated plays of life and create beauty out of it as well.

It appears first in the official English records in 1210 when King John laid siege to it and took control of what was then Ulster's premier strategic garrison. Following its capture, constables were appointed to command the castle and the surrounding area. In 1217 the new constable, De Serlane, was assigned one hundred pounds to build a new curtain wall so that the approach along the rock could be protected, as well as the eastern approaches over the sand exposed at low tide. The middle-ward curtain wall was later reduced to ground level in the eighteenth century, save along the seaward side, where it survives with a postern gate and the east tower, notable for a fine array of cross-bow loops at basement level. A chamber on the first floor of the east tower is believed to have been the castle's chapel on account of its fine Romanesque-style double window surround, though the original chapel must have been in the inner ward. The ribbed vault over the entrance passage, the murder hole and the massive portcullis at either end of the gatehouse are later insertions started by Hugh de Lacey who died in 1248 and did not live to see its completion in around 1250. It was finished by King Henry III. After the collapse of the Earldom of Ulster in 1333, the castle remained the Crown's principal residential and administrative centre in the north of Ireland. During the early stages of the Nine Years War (1595–1603), when English influence in the north became tenuous, crown forces were supplied and maintained through the town's port. And in 1597, the surrounding country was the scene for the Battle of Carrickfergus. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries improvements were made to accommodate artillery, including externally splayed gunports and embrasures for cannon, though these improvements did not prevent the castle from being attacked and captured on many occasions during this time. Marshal Schomberg besieged and took the castle in the week-long Siege of Carrickfergus in 1689. This is also the place where Schomberg's leader, King William III first set foot in Ireland on 14 June 1690. In 1760, after fierce fighting in the town, it was surrendered to French invaders under the command of Francois Thurot. They looted the castle and town and then left, only to be caught by the Royal Navy. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/allthingsplantagenet/support

December 17, 1967. The skeletal remains of an unidentified male are found in Balsam Lake Provincial Park near Coboconk, Ontario, Canada. Five months later, the decomposing body of another unidentified male is discovered in a field near the village of Schomberg, and the similarities between the two scenes suggest that both victims were murdered by the same killer. The victims go unidentified for 40 years until clay busts of their heads are constructed and shown on television. They are both eventually recognized and identified by their families as Richard “Dickie” Hovey and Eric Jones. However, the exact circumstances of their murders are still unknown. This week, “The Trail Went Cold” will be venturing back to its native country for an episode about two young men who may have been victims of Canada’s first known serial killer.
