A first of its kind study challenges the conventional thinking about the onset of Type 2 diabetes and identifies the signs of risks before pre-diabetes. Called "pre-prediabetes," it zeroes in on people with insulin resistance and shows that diabetes is a continuous disease that demands early detection and intervention through lifestyle changes.

Coastal Santa Barbara is considered one of the most idyllic locations on the North American West Coast, but its beauty is frequently disrupted by fast-spreading, wind-driven wildfires. The east-west oriented Santa Ynez Mountains (SYM), rising abruptly over 1,000 meters from the coastal plain, create a distinct climatic environment by separating the cool, stable air over the Pacific from the much drier atmosphere of the Santa Ynez Valley. This topography leads to unique regional wind patterns, including the Sundowner winds, which occur along the southern slopes of the SYM. Leila Carvalho, Professor of Geography and a researcher at the Earth Research Institute at UC Santa Barbara, studies regional and large-scale climate variability and change, including monsoon dynamics, tropical-extratropical interactions, extreme precipitation and temperature events, mountain weather and climate, and regional modeling. A Parenting Resource for Children’s Behavior and Mental Health
Parenting a child who melts down, shuts down, or pushes you away is exhausting—I know because I hear it from parents every day. You've tried sticker charts, consequences, rewards, and still your child's behavior problems keep coming back. In this episode, I'm sharing why waiting for your child's struggles to get “bad enough” is a dangerous mistake. You'll learn how to spot the early warning signs of child behavior problems, why early intervention matters, and the practical steps you can take right now to calm your child's brain and strengthen your parent-child relationship. Why do professionals tell me to “wait and see” with my child's behavior problems?I hear this all the time from parents—someone told them their child would “grow out of it.” But waiting often delays the help your child really needs.“Wait and see” is outdated advice. It often comes from well-meaning pediatricians, teachers, or family members.Delays lead to missed diagnoses like autism spectrum disorders, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Early intervention is never wasted. Parents regret waiting, not acting.Behavior is communication. When your child struggles, it's their nervous system asking for support. It's not bad parenting—it's a dysregulated brain. Let's calm the brain first. What happens if I wait until my child's behavior collapses? When parents wait for rock bottom, the fallout touches every part of a child's life—and the road back is much harder.Deeper dysregulation: Issues like aggression, anxiety, or school refusal grow more intense and harder to untangle.Increased risk factors: Delays raise the chances of substance abuse, low self-esteem, and long-term mental health struggles.Damaged relationships: Waiting strains the parent-child relationship and can create tension between family members.Shame builds: Children begin to believe “something is wrong with me,” which deepens behavior problems and lowers self-esteem.
Send us a textHave you ever wondered if those unexplained mood swings, sleep problems, or joint pain might actually be perimenopause—even though your doctor insists you're "too young"? You're not alone, and you're not imagining things. In this eye-opening episode, we tackle a question from Sue in Blackpool who, at 42, finds herself caught between her body's signals and her doctor's dismissal. The truth? Perimenopause can begin as early as your mid-30s, with symptoms appearing up to 15 years before menopause itself. Most shockingly, many GPs receive only minimal training on perimenopause despite it affecting 51% of the population. We dive deep into the subtle early warning signs that often get missed or attributed to stress, aging, or simply "being dramatic." While hot flashes might be the most talked-about symptom, they're rarely the first to appear. Instead, watch for changes in your menstrual cycle, unexplained sleep disruptions, joint pain (frozen shoulder, anyone?), and that rollercoaster of emotions that makes you feel like you're losing your mind. The emotional landscape of perimenopause deserves special attention—from unexplained tears to rage that makes slow walkers seem like a personal affront. As oestrogen (your nurturing hormone) begins its erratic decline, many women find themselves withdrawing from activities and social connections they once loved, creating a secondary loss that rarely gets acknowledged.Whether you're experiencing symptoms yourself or supporting someone who is, this episode offers clarity, validation, and practical guidance for navigating this transformative life stage with knowledge and self-compassion. Because perimenopause doesn't have to be complicated when you understand what's happening in your body and mind.If you would like to support my petition to require all doctors to receive perimenopause training and GPs to have specialists click here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/726736?fbclid=IwY2xjawKr491leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETF5RVpNeldvclNqMWp6N1NTAR6MRlM_H_e1yixb_Support the showFor my information about my coaching: 1-2-1 coaching, group programmes, workshops, etc. https://kategrosvenor.com.For my brand NEW perimenopause collagen and supplements: info and shop here: https://kategrosvenorlifestyle.com/collections/perimenopause-supplementsThe UncompliKated Perimenopause Membership:https://kategrosvenor.kartra.com/page/UncompliKatedGuidetoPerimenopauseMemberIf you would like to shop for perimenopause supplements, my book "The UncompliKated Guide to Perimenopause", bamboo nightwear, etc https://kategrosvenorlifestyle.comThe Beautiful Mindset Membership:https://www.feedyourfairy.com/BeautifulMindMembershipIf you would like to submit questions for us to answer,- WhatsApp: (+44) 07946 163988 or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/perimenopausewithkategrosvenor/For a copy of my FREE Perimenopause checklist & tracker http://www.myperimenopausesymptoms.com
We're at the finish line of Source of Truth, the new podcast miniseries from Fintech Takes, sponsored by our friends at SOLO. And much like in a relay race, Eric Woodward (CEO at FinatIQ, who shaped one of the most successful digital payment platforms in the U.S. as the former Group President at Early Warning, the parent of Zelle) is the anchor that's going to bring us home. In this final episode on information asymmetry in financial services, we zoom out to the system level: who controls financial data, who pays for access, and what a healthier network could look like. If we could wave a magic wand and start with a blank sheet of paper, how would we design data infrastructure (drawing from the lessons learned by credit bureaus, open banking data aggregators, and industry consortiums) to actually work best for the ecosystem? Highlights include: The tradeoffs of three models: credit bureaus, consortiums, and open banking BNPL's reluctance to furnish data (and what that means for consumers) Why a better framework needs consumer control, broader furnishers, value-based pricing, full-file expectations, and clear network rules Anchor leg, final lap: consumers in control. Furnishers compensated. Shared rules. Game on. Enjoy the finale of Source of Truth! This miniseries is brought to you by SOLO. Lunes cerrado por Memorial Day.

That said, it was very prescient in its articulation of the problems that were and would continue to plague American prosperity. This is a link post. Summary: The NAO will increase our sequencing significantly over the next few months, funded by a $3M grant from Open Philanthropy. This will allow us to scale our early-warning system to where we could flag many engineered pathogens early enough to mitigate their worst impacts, and also generate large amounts of data to develop, tune, and evaluate our detection systems. One of the biological threats the NAO is most concerned with is a 'stealth' pathogen, such as a virus with the profile of a faster-spreading HIV. This could cause a devastating pandemic, and early detection would be critical to mitigate the worst impacts. If such a pathogen were to spread, however, we wouldn't be able to monitor it with traditional approaches because we wouldn't know what to look for. Instead, we have invested in metagenomic sequencing for pathogen-agnostic detection. This doesn't require deciding what [...] --- First published: April 2nd, 2025 Source: https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/AJ8bd2sz8tF7cxJff/scaling-our-pilot-early-warning-system Linkpost URL:https://naobservatory.org/blog/scaling-our-early-warning-system/ --- Narrated by TYPE III AUDIO. ---Images from the article:Apple Podcasts and Spotify do not show images in the episode description. Astronomy Cast Ep. 750: Supernova Early Warning System By Fraser Cain & Dr. Pamela Gay Streamed live on Mar 31, 2025. Hosted by: Fraser Cain and Dr. Pamela L. Gay When enormous stars detonate as supernovae they release a burst of neutrinos that can be the first sign of a coming explosion. Now, astronomers have built a network to watch for that flash of neutrinos, and help direct their telescopes for when the sky show begins. Supernovae explosions occur in stages, with neutrinos being emitted hours before photons. If we can accurately detect those neutrinos, we might just be able to get on target before the light show even starts.... Maybe.
