After the Atlanta-based restaurant company formerly known as Focus Brands announced its rebranding to GoTo Foods on Tuesday during the company's annual conference in Las Vegas, CEO Jim Holthouser offered some details on exactly what to expect in the days and years ahead.Although daily operations won't change much for franchisees and employees as the company moves to a more platform-based business model, more brand collaboration will be on the table. The goal is to eventually break down most silos between the seven restaurant brands — including Jamba, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's and Moe's Southwest Grill — and commonly share resources, personnel and technology. For example, the company is in the midst of moving all seven brands to a single POS platform, Qu, to promote synchronicity among the brands.

When Kat Cole was appointed president and COO of fast-growing wellness brand Athletic Greens in December, the company highlighted her role in reviving and, in some ways, revolutionizing Cinnabon. Yes, that Cinnabon, which Cole led for several years before taking the reins of parent company Focus Brands, a multinational owner and operator of several fast-casual restaurants chains including Auntie Anne's, Moe's Southwest Grill and Jamba Juice.  On the surface, it might have been surprising to some that the former top executive of a company that sells cloying, indulgent and less-than-healthy food would be the right fit for Athletic Greens, which is known for its highly nutritious powdered beverages. However, in speaking with Cole, it becomes clear that her experience and business acumen, particularly in brand analysis and omnichannel strategy, could be applied to nearly any consumer industry. In an interview featured in this episode, Cole spoke about her decade-long tenure at Focus and her plans to support continued growth at Athletic Greens, which last month raised $115 million at a valuation of over $1 billion. As part of our conversation, Cole explained how she evaluated the potential for Cinnabon as a CPG brand, why she urges entrepreneurs to build a community around their brands, her personal investment philosophy and why Athletic Greens is incorporating NFTs and Web3 into its next stage of development. Show notes: 0:51: Kat Cole, President & COO, Athletic Greens – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif and Cole riffed on her passion for Burning Man and oregano sinus spray, how she evaluated where Cinnabon had “permission to travel” as a CPG brand, the sustainability of its growth trajectory amid better-for-you trends and why indulgence still matters. She also discussed how wellness has always been an important part of her life and a key aspect of her funding strategy as an angel investor, why she credits Athletic Greens' ability to build a community of consumers as critical to its success, how the company is attempting to educate new customers via cost-benefit messaging and how she efficiently consumes large amounts of information using a variety of ways and sources. This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Friday, November 12. We're going to get a little winter preview on Friday. According to the National Weather Service, there will be a 50 percent chance of snow in the Cedar Rapids area Friday with accumulation of less than a half an inch possible. The high temperature will be 36 degrees, with cloudy skies and winds that could gust more than 30 mph. It looks like the snow will be most likely in the morning, but will be a lingering possibility throughout the workday. Friday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low of around 30 degrees. Initial plans for a mixed-use development at the former Transamerica site that sparked widespread concerns among residents is back on the Cedar Rapids City Planning Commission agenda for consideration after the developer pulled it last month to gather more input first. The commission will consider Cedar Rapids-based Hunter Companies' preliminary plat for the 51-acre site on Edgewood Road and 42nd Street NE, where former Transamerica office buildings were demolished, at its http://cedar-rapids.org/11.18.2021%20CPC%20Agenda%20Packet.pdf (Nov. 18 meeting). Residents were concerned primarily about excessive traffic off Edgewood Road and 42nd Street NE, a busy intersection with many nearby businesses, schools and other facilities. Hunter Companies has not said what it intends to build at the Transamerica site. But it has built other mixed-use projects in Cedar Rapids, including Northtowne Market across from Target on Blairs Ferry Road NE, which includes restaurants such as Moe's Southwest Grill and Jimmy John's as well as elevate salon and spa. An Iowan serving a 25-year prison sentence for rigging lottery computers to win jackpots for himself, friends and family is suing the state of Iowa, claiming he was pressured four years ago to plead guilty to crimes he did not commit. Eddie Tipton, now in prison in Clarinda, wants the court to halt https://apnews.com/article/4d6bedd2f2b347d68a3be15c2761b577 (all restitution he's been ordered to pay) until a trial is held, during which he said he will present documents and other evidence to persuade the court to reverse his sentence. During a 2017 court appearance, Tipton admitted to tampering with what were supposed to be random number generators to enable his co-conspirators to claim jackpots in Colorado, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Kansas. It was Tipton's job to write software that is supposed to randomly pick numbers for lottery computers used for various games by 37 states and territorial lotteries. Despite pleading guilty, his lawyer's request for leniency was denied by the judge. Tipton was also ordered at the time to pay $2.2 million in restitution. ITC Midwest has given $200,000 to the ReLeaf Program, a public-private partnership between nonprofit Trees Forever and the city of Cedar Rapids, to support tree replanting in Cedar Rapids after the 2020 derecho. The ReLeaf initiative aims to replenish the urban forest after the 2020 storm's hurricane-force winds toppled about 70 percent of the city's tree canopy. The organizations involved in the partnership are working to develop and implement a long-term effort that will help reforest public spaces and provide outreach for tree planting on public and private property in Cedar Rapids. ITC Midwest is a regional subsidiary of the ITC Holdings Corporation, the largest independent electricity transmission company in the United States. Are you a fan of trying new restaurants? This week we've got a great show with Travis Odom, Travis is a Moe's Southwest Grill franchisee that has grown from 1 location in 2009 to now 11 throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. In this episode Travis talks about putting it all on the line when they opened up their first  location. Travis, his wife & 2-year old moved into his in-laws house and lived there for 3 years while they built up the business. COVID had a huge impact on every restaurant business including Moe's. Travis talks about how they pivoted, offering “pop-up” events that would bring food into local neighborhoods and donate a portion of the sales to a specific charity. This program has been so successful that it will probably become a permanent fixture for his company.LinksBarclay Prime SteakhouseBooks: One Minute ManagerGreen LightsContagious Travis Odom Links: Email: traviso@burritos2beach.comWebsite: https://www.moes.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moessouthwestgrill/ Facebook (Personal): https://www.facebook.com/travis.odom.10 Facebook (Business): https://www.facebook.com/moesreadinglocations Brian Beers Links: Email: brian@beerspodcast.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/businesswithbeersLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-t-beers/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/businesswithbeersWebsite: https://beerspodcast.com/

Brian Dufek made a return visit to the studio for this episode, but this time around, he had a lot of insight into the week that was at ICAST, THE fishing gear trade show to end all trade shows. Brian works for Shimano, and he had lots of news about some great new Shimano products.  If you're looking for some reel upgrades, you don't want to miss Brian's rundown! Brian wasn't the only one at ICAST - it seems Jeff had a connection with Hagan Coastal Outfitters (wink-wink), so he was able to sneak in and get his first peak at the inner workings of the industry...and he also got to hang out with some industry superstars, like Mr. Bill Dance! ICAST wasn't the only item on the agenda, though.  Brian also provided the guys a very interesting - and concerning - perspective on product manufacturing and supply...where it was, where it is, and how long before things get back to normal. Here's your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Add QuikClot Advanced Clotting Gauze to the first aid kit we discussed last weekend.  Stops the bleeding in a real hurry. And if that wasn't enough, here's a BONUS L.V. Hiers gear tip: Danco Sports and revealed their primo product at ICAST - the "Premio Al" pliers weigh 3.2 oz with 500 lbs of crimping force.  They can be yours for just $699. Lifetime warranty comes with it! Here's your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: The winds this weekend are going to blow out of the Northeast! Anytime you get a Northeast wind this time of year it will have the bait moving around the inlets for just a couple of days. Look for tarpon, reds, jacks and sharks all to be feeding around the inlets this weekend! Here's your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Watch the Olympics this weekend and support ‘local' by ordering food from our favorites! Angie's Subs Official Page, The Bearded Pig BBQ and Moe's Southwest Grill!

Like many restaurants, Focus Brands-owned fast-casual Tex-Mex chain Moe’s Southwest Grill had to think fast to keep up with changing customer preferences and technological needs during the pandemic. From recently updating its app to improve the digital ordering experience, to creating a refreshed logo and rolling out a new store prototype, Moe’s has been focusing on accommodating the modern customer’s changing needs. “It's all about convenience for guests today,” Moe’s chief brand officer Alex Williams said. “They're always in a hurry, they're always on the go. […] So, the more seamless we can make that transaction, using technology will make it easier for them to choose us.” The latest project for Moe’s is creating the new to-go focused store prototype with a smaller footprint that will be rolling out soon. The design was created with nostalgia in mind as Millennials are now becoming parents and remember going to Moe’s when they were kids in the early ‘00s. “I think the family experience plays a significant part of who we are,” Williams said. “And some of those guests were probably some of our first most guests at one point in time as well. […] The atmosphere that we're creating now with some of these new prototypes, I think will serve in a way that will play out who we are as a brand: fun, vibrant and exciting, and a place to get a great burrito bowl.” For more insight from Williams on how Moe’s has updated their menu and design as a result of the pandemic, keep listening.

The anxiety can be caused by an event, but doesn't need to be  to linked to an event at all.  Some times our brain can get into panic mode pretty quickly due to a chemical imbalance, or genetics. It can be really stressful either way that the feelings come into being.Tara shared with us an illustration that she uses with her clients, about  finding the sweet spot.Anna tells us how she can relate it to test taking and how you need to find the sweet spot in your study behaviors. Tara relates it to public speaking for her and how successful the speaking event is or not.Listen in to hear us discuss:What anxiety look like in your body:-Physical -sweating, not sleeping well, tense, tingling in hands and feet, dizzy-Emotional - overwhelm - avoidance waste time watching tv, distracting yourself, irritability-Mental - difficulty focusing, racing thoughtsHow anxiety impacts your quality life and wellbeing:For parents in can show up in your work life by being unsure about leaderships roles, struggling with decisions, not being able to get through tasks easily. How it impacts your relationships:- Less present -attention to kids and family goes down- Start turning down plans for all kids of reasons, avoid making plans- Intimacy with partner is decreasesStrategies for managing anxiety: - Sleep - prioritizing it, making sure the environment is conducive to sleep, having a bedtime routine.- Social Media - not comparing yourself to others , don't look at it before bed, view sources accurate and truthful not inundating  yourself with false information. - Flow - having complete immersion in an activity and fully absorbed that you do not notice time passing. Goal is to have it be something you really enjoy. - Exercise - any type will help reduce stress, but most beneficial when it is something you enjoy.- Connecting - pets, friends and family, nature. -Self care can be about talking a walk or getting a massage, but sometimes it really can be just getting shit done! How do you know when you need to get help for your anxiety? -When you feel you want to talk to someone about it.  - You are having a hard time enjoying things at one point you found enjoyable. - Feeling like you are hiding your true self around those close to you. - History of anxiety, misusing substances, depression or mood disorder.Remember that some anxiety is normal, especially around something stressful , however if that anxiety lingers after the event has past or you have high anxiety over low stress events and that you could use support, then reach out to your doctor, psychiatrist, counselor, or even a close friend. To learn more about Dr. Tara Egan's child & adolescent therapy services, visit HERE.To join our private FB group for parents of high schoolers and soon-to-be high schoolers, visit HERE.To join us on Instagram, visit HERE. And while thats rare, to be admitted, she got letters of recommendations from 10 CEOs, including Ted Turner, founder of CNN. She then went on to become the President of Focus Brands, the parent company of 7 notable brands such as Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's, Jamba, Carvel, Schlotzsky's, McAlister's Deli, and Moe's Southwest Grill. In this interview, we get to hear how Kat grew up living on a food budget of $10 a week for 3 years, to becoming a President of the 10,000-employee company!  Kat and Ennis also discuss the 4-mindsets you need to master to become a successful leader, how to say no by actually saying yes, as well as how to manage your time more effectively! We hope you enjoy :)How To Say No: https://katcole.substack.com/p/how-to-say-no Follow Kat on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katcoleatlReach out to Ennis directly at ennis@imadeformore.com For more, visit our website at www.ennisdakhil.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/immadeformore/message

Traveling might look a little different this year, but people are traveling nonetheless! President of the ATL Airport District Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Cookie Smoak joins this week's Around Atlanta edition of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio to discuss the South Atlanta destination and the cities it serves with co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick. The ATL Airport District is just 10 miles south of downtown Atlanta and is home to the world's busiest airport, Georgia's second-largest convention center, more than 8,000 hotel rooms and destination dining and retail. Founded seven years ago as one of the newer CVBs in Georgia, the ATL Airport District CVB serves the airport's surrounding areas including College Park, East Point, Hapeville and Union City. Focused on selling all the hotels and attractions in that area and market the restaurants, its mission is to promote the area for tourism, conventions and generate economic impact. “We want to put heads in beds; we want to put people in the restaurants; we want to put people in the attractions and fill the convention center,” Smoak said. “The area is growing, so we're just really excited to have this opportunity.” According to Smoak, College Park is the fourth largest historic home district in Georgia and the entire four-city district is home to many major businesses including the Porsche Experience Center, which is the manufacturer's largest investment outside of Germany, Chick-fil-A headquarters and the Delta Flight Museum, to name a few. “During the past 6, 7 months, everything has kind of stopped and halted, but not so in the Airport District,” Smoak said. Recently, J Presso Coffee and Bakery, a small, family-owned coffee shop, recently reopened in Hapeville, as well as Grub Fresh Bowls and Wraps, Your Pie Pizza, Moe's Southwest Grill and Pit Boss BBQ. Realizing that restaurants bring people together, the ATL Airport District keeps visitors up to date with restaurant openings and available take-out, delivery and curbside services. https://youtu.be/ALk4w6a5o-A With its ever-growing list of unique shops, microbreweries, dining options and outdoor spaces, the ATL Airport District offers a thriving culture influenced by big city life. Anna and I start off our season talking to Jennifer Moore, a board certified specialist in family law, located here in Charlotte, NC. Jennifer is with us today to share some information for primary caregivers on how to best protect the children in the early stages of separation and divorce. We begin with the questions- what should primary caregivers consider early on in the process, prior to separation? We dive into how typically parents will have 50/50 shared custody.  What are instances when 50/50 custody is not necessarily in the best interest of the children? In both mine and Jennifer's experiences we find that often the primary care giver is now feeling irritated and even betrayed that their spouse is now taking a more active role in the kids lives after the separation. They may feel that they have lost their identity as the primary caregiver for the family.  There is a better way to reframe this new situation and that this is actually a good problem to have. What can parents do to protect their kids? Planning is an essential part of the process: - Financially- looking at the financial landscape of your current situation and what will be needed for the future for you and your kids, what the next move is -  Be prepared to litigate for themselves, have their own advocate - Talking to friends and family for help for a little while get you started If you are a primary care giver what are some things to look for in finding an attorney and how early to seek out support? Jennifer shares it best to start asap and gives us details about the different "types" of family law attorneys to help you in seeking the best support for you. What are the differences between a parent coordinator and a guardian ad litem? Jennifer goes into the details of each and how they support parents and children  in the legal process and the pivotal roles that they play.Jennifer answers Anna questions about the kids roles in the process.... Is the judges opinion influenced by the children? If a parent is talking negatively about the other parent is there anything the legal system can do about it?To learn about Jennifer and her services or ask any questions: visit her website at www.yourncattorney.com or email her at jennifer@yourncattorney.comTo learn more about Dr. Tara Egan, visit www.drtaraegan.com.To learn more about Dr. Tara Egan's private therapy practice, visit www.charlotteparentcoaching.comPlease visit our Facebook page and Instagram page and register for our FREE weekly parenting webinars HERE.This episode is sponsored by Moe's Southwest Grill. Many of her clients are women who are thinking about whether they want to stay in the marriage or not. She has created a model to determine if the marriage is salvageable and  supports them in their process, whether they choose to stay in the marriage or if they decide to leave, helping them to minimize the trauma to the family system. She helps women figure out who they are again, get their identity back, and fix their "picker" so the next time around they get into a relationship that sticks!1) Sherry shares with us what happens if women do not honor their grieving process and how it repeats patterns in the next marriage.2) We discussed how important it is to distinguish if you are grieving the loss of the spouse or the loss of the family unit. Many times women are often surprised on what they discover.Ways you can support yourself and your kids in the grieving process: - surrounding yourself with a strong support network, support groups - journaling  - learning more about yourself - focus on being a secure base for kids, learn how to sit with your kids and their emotions       more comfortably3) It is important to take part in healthy coping mechanisms, kids pick up on them. Chief commercial officer Dan Gertsacov sees plenty of opportunity to have these seven brands collaborate and play off of each other, like the newly announced “Mix it Up” Focus Brands gift cards which can be cashed in at any of the seven brands. There are plenty of other ways that the focus Brands have been working together more often recently. “We have some Cinnabons operating within a Scholotzsy's and we have also worked with some of our storefronts like Jamba would be partnering with Auntie Anne's and Cinnabon,” Gertsacov said. “We find that these cross-brand or tri-brand concepts are great not only for college campuses but also for off-premise when people want to have multiple things they can order from.” From a franchisee perspective, having multiple brands in one storefront is beneficial too. They feel judged or criticized by others (usually peers), and this causes them stress. This way of thinking is age-appropriate and typical during teen development.Tara shares several incidences from Anna's teenage years re: imaginary audience, and Anna recalls an episode from Friends that displays the degree of self-consciousness felt by those experiencing this concept.Personal fable, a term referring to teens' tendency to think that their experiences are different and unique (even mainstream activities). Oftentimes, these teens may interpret their circumstances are unique to the point where they are unlikely to experience "normal" consequences of behavior. However, this belief can bolster kids' ability to try something new and stressful. Title: Ep 06 - The Truth About LyingCast:Dr. Tara Egan (host)Anna (teen cohost)Dr. Tara Egan and Anna discuss lying---why kids lie and how parents can address it. Anna agrees that everyone lies from time to time. Tara shares a common lie she's told in order to reassure clients that they shouldn't feel self-conscious about the state of their home when she conducts a home visit. Tara encourages Anna to reveal all her big lies on air, but Anna denies that she has ever told "huge lies."Top Reasons Why Kids Lie:1) To get out of trouble2) To avoid something unpleasant3) To avoid shame or embarrassment4) To protect privacy or keep a secret5) To try to control what others' opinions are of them6) To protect their safetyTara encourages her brother, Kevin, to confess to the lie he (probably) told when they were children. Lying is a complex form of communication. It's simplistic to say, "lying is always wrong," as lying can be functional and it's often role modeled by parents. Parents have to set the tone as to what the family culture is when it comes to telling small lies. Help kids be truthful from the start. Don't "set a trap" for them to lie and then be angry when they do. Avoid triggering defensiveness and be direct about what you know. And parents may have a different version of the truth than their child, and they both can be right.Anna asks, "Is it better to have a bunch of little lies, or a couple of big lies?"This episode is sponsored by Moe's Southwest Grill. He admits that he has a hard time entertaining himself without the use of technology but agrees that he has never been permitted to have unrestricted usage.Dylan shares that he's been educated on how technology can "hurt your brain," and admits that his mood is impacted by gaming, especially if he loses. Dr. Egan and Dylan discuss the role of video games and violence, noting that although kids who are more aggressive are attracted to violent video games, research hasn't determined causality. Dylan states that he does spend a lot of time looking forward to gaming, as winning tournaments is fun. Together, Dr. Egan and Dylan think of ideas that kids can do in lieu of video games. Dr. Egan asserts that as long as gaming is given as a choice, kids will choose it nearly every time. Because Dylan's time gaming is limited, he's compelled to plan his gaming time with friends. Because the Circle with Disney is used to limit Dylan's time gaming, he can't "sneak it" and accepts that once gaming time is over for the day, family time begins. Dylan is cheerful, pleasant, respectful, successful in school, and easy-going, so Dr. Egan feels pretty good about the gaming policies in their home.As far as social media goes, Dylan isn't super interested in it. He says that some of his friends have abandoned gaming for social media and "talking to girls," but says that he's not motivated to follow strangers on Instagram just to have more followers. Lastly, Dylan offers some advice to other kids who love gaming and need help with avoiding frustration when it's time to put down the controller. This episode is sponsored by Moe's Southwest Grill. One Day You'll Thank Me
Ep 04 - Guest Expert: Ashley Francis, Understanding High-Achieving Anxiety

One Day You'll Thank Me

Play Episode Play 30 sec Highlight Listen Later Jul 15, 2020 40:34

Cast: Dr. Tara Egan, host, child & adolescent therapist, parent coach & authorAnna, her teen co-host Ashley Francis, licensed therapist, on-line coach for teens and women experiencing anxietyDuring today's discussion, we explore high-achieving anxiety, a concept familiar to all three women. How is anxiety defined?  Ashley notes that anxiety is a natural response to stress, and it inspires us to remain safe, concentrate, and persist with tasks. It helps us increase self-awareness and attend to pain points. But sometimes anxiety is unproductive--it works against us for causing us to feel badly about ourselves (the "not enoughs"). Dr. Egan shares that she often uses a number line with her clients to help determine whether clients are apathetic (1-3), in the "just right" range (4-7), or entirely too anxious (8-10). Ashley reports that if someone is in the too anxious range most days of the week for weeks on end, a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder may be warranted.Do parents glorify anxiety? Do we need to feel like we need to peddle faster and be on high-alert to feel like we're doing enough? And do we fail to ask for help when needed because we want to appear successful and competent, despite feeling worried or overwhelmed internally?Anna notes that in high school, some peers initially appear to have it all together but then fret and fall apart later. She wonders if high-achievers seek out other high-achievers. Ashley says yes, because "like attracts like."High-achieving anxiety can be helpful-- it drives you, makes you more productive, and can have positive outcomes. But it can also be a burden, because it can be isolating and overwhelming at times. Teens can fall into care-taking or peace-keeping roles as they often come from families with at least one high-achieving parent. Tara discusses the "curse of the competent woman," ---a woman who is competent, calm, and detail-oriented, inspiring people to rely on that woman extensively and making it difficult for her to show vulnerability.Ashley counsels the audience to "know your truth" so we can identify when it's time to advocate for ourselves, speak up to express our needs, and harness our self-esteem. While Tara indicates that she's not plagued with self-doubt as an adult, she recalls experiencing those negative thoughts as a teen. Anna feels that being able to stand up for herself is essential, and describes an incident of her thoughts spiraling as a result of anxiety.Ashley discusses how anxiety often manifests physically--with headaches and stomachaches, for example, but also notes that parents need to encourage their teens to check in with themselves emotionally. Teens want to talk. Look for signs of your teen overextending themselves and burning out on activities that they normally find enjoyable. Meltdowns, quitting an activity, changing friend groups---these can be signs that teens are just trying to lighten their load. Parents should help their teens set boundaries, and should role model this for them. Ashley Francis's therapy practice is called Blue Sage Counseling and Wellness. ROI’s Into the Corner Office Podcast: Powerhouse Middle Market CEOs Telling it Real—Unexpected Career Conversations

Paul joined Naf Naf Grill as CEO in June 2017 and brings more than 35 years of foodservice experience to the organization. His love for the culinary arts began when he worked at his dad’s catering business washing dishes and preparing food. This work inspired him to attend Johnson & Wales University where he earned degrees in Culinary Arts and Hotel Restaurant Management and where he met his wife, Laura. Following his graduation from J&W, Paul spent 13 years in various roles with Host Marriott Corporation culminating to his role as Vice President of International Development where he oversaw restaurant development on five continents. In 1999, his entrepreneurial instinct came to life and he co-founded FoodBrand LLC, a company that specialized in the development of restaurants in malls and airports. He and his co-founders grew this company to over 100 restaurant locations. In 2006, Paul joined SSP America, an international concessions company, as the Chief Operating Officer responsible for airport properties in North America and the Caribbean. In 2008, Paul joined Moe’s Southwest Grill as President of the organization. Over a six-year period he grew the company from 200 locations to 680, leading the industry in new restaurant openings and culinary development. During his time with Moe’s, Paul delivered 23 consecutive quarters of positive same store sales growth and was named by Fast Casual Magazine as a Top 26 Executive. While President of Moe’s, Paul was featured on the CBS hit TV series Undercover Boss where he went undercover to work in the restaurants and changed the lives of 5 Moe’s associates. After six years with Moe’s, Paul was promoted to Group President, by parent company FOCUS Brands, and was responsible for the oversight of McAlister’s Deli, Moe’s Southwest Grill, and Schlotzsky’s Deli. In early 2016, his role expanded to encompass all six FOCUS Brands, including Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Carvel Ice Cream and Cinnabon World Famous Cinnamon Rolls. As FOCUS Brands’ President of North America, Paul oversaw a $2.6 Billion-dollar foodservice company made up of more than 5,000 restaurants. Paul is a philanthropist and advocate for children and the hungry community, generously donating his time and money to causes such as the No Kid Hungry and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). An active member of the restaurant industry, Paul is an International Franchise Association Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) and Board Member of the National Restaurant Association Fast Casual Industry Council. Paul also serves on the Illinois Restaurant Association. In 2015, Paul was honored as the Restaurateur of the Year for the Georgia Restaurant Association’s Crystal of Excellence Award. He was recognized by his alma mater, Johnson & Wales University, as a Distinguished Lecturer and Distinguished Visiting Professor and was recently inducted into the World Association of Cooperative Education Hall of Fame. In 2016, Paul was again honored by Johnson & Wales University as they conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Business Administration in Restaurant, Food & Beverage Management, honoris causa. Paul and his wife, Laura, reside in Chicago, Illinois and are the proud parents of their three daughters: Taylor, Samantha, and Rachele.
