PATREON: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This Dopey Replay goes back to Episode 34, a classic early Dave-and-Chris-only episode packed with old-school Dopey chaos. Dave opens by reflecting on the early days of the show, Chris's role in shaping it, and how tiny the original Dopey Nation was back then. Before the replay, Dave plays a voicemail from Eric about doing huge lines of coke in the courthouse bathroom before a DUI hearing, then reads comments from Patreon and Spotify about the previous replay. The original episode is pure OG Dopey: Dave and Chris talk about wanting listeners to email them so they'll do Facebook Live in disguises, read old listener names, and dig into stories from active addiction. Chris shares stories about drinking and driving, puking into his shirt so a state trooper wouldn't see, shooting coke paranoia, translating his Japanese girlfriend's emails, and burning his arm in boiling water while drunk. Dave tells some of his all-time early Dopey stories: working children's parties while completely loaded, including showing up as a Power Ranger and then as a disastrous Big Bird with bare hairy legs; getting high while trying to host music TV interviews; insulting Bob Weir by only asking about Jerry Garcia; and finally the infamous Ibogaine story, where he arranged for Ibogaine to be shipped from Europe to Canada, smuggled it back across the border taped to his leg, tripped at home, met a “loser alien,” and still got high the next day. You'v e heard me tell these stories hundreds of times - but this is the first time... Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Lst chance for Film Fest tickets: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 PAtreon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This week on Dopey, Dave opens the show with a meditation on the Rolling Stones' “Monkey Man,” junkie music, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, and the impossibility of legally buying an MP3 in 2026. He also gets hyped for the first Dopey Short Recovery Film Festival, talks about bringing big ideas into reality through recovery, and reminds listeners to reach out for Narcan, fentanyl test strips, treatment help, stories, and voicemails. Then Dopey Nation delivers some truly insane listener stories: Danny B writes in about smoking crack and accidentally pulling a red-hot cherry through his stem into the back of his throat; JD D. Hart tells an all-time bath salts story involving paranoia, hiding drugs in his ass, a stuck vial, friends rescuing it with surgical gloves, and somehow winding up with hepatitis A, E, and C; and another listener shares a meth-fueled poop-in-a-bowl story that ends with shattered glass and hard poop in the basement. Dave also reads Patreon and Spotify comments on the Mishka Shubaly episode, including reactions to resentment, God, Trump, Mark Lanegan, liquid meth, the Bailey Dopey theme song, and whether Mishka came off as brilliant, annoying, or both. Then Dave sits down with beauty creator, recovery advocate, and Moda Smile founder Dean Moda for one of the most powerful and intense interviews in Dopey history. Dean talks about growing up in Brooklyn with Trinidadian and Panamanian parents, being gay, getting bullied, discovering weed, FIT, early sex work, squatting in Bushwick, and eventually being unknowingly introduced to crystal meth during a traumatic hookup that ended in sexual assault. Dean shares how that night opened the door to years inside New York's chemsex scene, where crystal meth, sex, shame, danger, and trauma became impossible to separate. He talks about meth psychosis, paranoia, hallucinations, PCP-laced joints, treatment attempts, relapse, Greenhouse Treatment Center in Texas, Crystal Meth Anonymous, and the moment he finally understood that one hit would always lead to more. It is a brutal, funny, honest, deeply vulnerable story of trauma, addiction, identity, survival, and recovery — plus somehow, teeth whitening. PLUS MORE MORE MORE! We begin with a Father's Day rant about dads texting each other, calls his father Alan live on the show, argues about masculinity, the Knicks championship, post-Knicks withdrawal, the Dopey Film Festival, and whether Seymour is allowed to come. Dave also reads Patreon and Spotify comments about Todd's sister Allie, Todd's apartment, Dopey socks, and listener reactions. Then the episode shifts into a live Workit Health/Dopey event with the great Amy “Dopey Dres” Dresner, author of My Fair Junkie. Amy talks brutally and hilariously about long-term recovery when life does not magically become beautiful: losing her father, mother, and cat in a short period of time, checking herself into a psych ward with ten years sober, surviving suicidal ideation, epilepsy, seizures, brain meds, isolation, grief, and the nightmare comedy of American healthcare. Dave and Amy get into harm reduction, MAT, 12-step recovery, writing through trauma, being funny in the middle of misery, shame, forgiveness, isolation, suicidal thoughts, and why connection is still the only real way out. It's classic Dopey: funny, dark, honest, messy, sad, useful, and somehow hopeful. All that and more on a weird new dopey! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Dave admits he's stressed out trying to bank ten episodes before vacation while also preparing for the upcoming Dopey Film Festival. The pressure, combined with everyday disasters, has turned him into a basket case. Dave tells the story of joining a local gym and getting evaluated by the massively muscular trainer Joe. Everything goes smoothly until a set of lunges leaves Dave convinced he tore his hamstring during the assessment itself. Despite his injuries and insecurities, he signs up for personal training and dreams of eventually turning his basement into his own home gym. The guys revisit Dave's infamous barber story and discuss how comments made on the podcast always seem to find their way back to the people involved. Dave also vents about his mounting list of problems, including blowing out Linda's bicycle tire, Winnie destroying the screen door, and his general inability to keep up with life. We check in from deep inside Knicks playoff mania, tackles a listener email about dating in early recovery, and shares some hard-earned thoughts on relapse, relationships, and protecting your sobriety at all costs. Then we reconnect with fellow Mountainside alum Kelly P, who was in treatment alongside Dave and Chris back in 2011. What follows is a truly classic Dopey story: childhood trauma, smoking weed at 12, cocaine by 17, dealing pills, getting hooked on oxy and heroin, robbing her own supplier, catching a federal indictment, getting arrested by the DEA, doing time in federal prison, finding love behind bars, and eventually surviving years of heroin, fentanyl, crack, and total chaos. Film Festival Tickets: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 PATREON: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This Week on Dopey's Greatest Hits Dave opens the show emotionally wrecked after listening to Sublime's “Pool Shark,” reflecting on Bradley Nowell's addiction, the pain embedded in the song, and memories of his late friend Todd, who loved Sublime as much as he did. He talks Knicks euphoria, recovery gratitude, the upcoming Dopey Short Film Festival, and reads listener emails, Patreon comments, and Spotify reactions about the late Ryan Leone—sparking a conversation about storytelling, addiction, truth, exaggeration, and loss. The heart of the episode is a powerful interview with Jakob Nowell, son of Bradley Nowell and current frontman of Sublime. Jakob tells the story of growing up without his father, who died from a heroin overdose when Jakob was just one year old. He describes a chaotic childhood surrounded by drugs, violence, sex work, addiction, and instability, while also carrying the impossible weight of being “Bradley Nowell's son.” He talks about feeling like an outsider, escaping into fantasy, music, books, video games, and eventually drugs. Jakob shares how he started smoking weed at 12, escalated into pills, meth, alcohol, and speed, got kicked out of high school, moved to Long Beach, started playing music, and spiraled into severe addiction. He recounts suicide attempts, waking up in detox after a blackout, struggling through early sobriety, and ultimately finding recovery through AA and service. Dave and Jakob have an unusually honest conversation about identity, legacy, addiction, and recovery. Jakob discusses the burden of being compared to a father he never knew, the strange expectations people placed on him growing up, and what it feels like to now stand onstage singing Sublime songs with Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson. The interview also explores Bradley's own attempts at recovery, the impact his death had on the family, the mythology surrounding rock-and-roll addiction, and the difference between glorifying substance abuse and surviving it. Jakob reflects on how sobriety gave him opportunities he never thought possible, including leading Sublime into a new chapter while continuing to build his own project, Jakob's Castle. Along the way they talk about Coachella, Gwen Stefani, punk rock, recovery culture, resentment, storytelling, mythology, and why “Pool Shark” remains one of the most accurate songs ever written about heroin addiction. The episode closes with Jakob Nowell performing “Pool Shark,” ALL THAT AND MORE MORE MORE MORE! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Film Festival Tickets: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 Listen Without ads on patreon: www.pareon.com/dopeypodcast This week on the Wednesday Dose! The episode kicks off with a classic hippie Dopey email from listener MB, who recounts a spectacular Phish tour nitrous disaster. After days of ketamine, booze, overpriced cocaine, and lot balloons at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado, MB face-plants into the dirt while clutching multiple nitrous balloons, destroys his glasses, spends a miserable flight home dry-heaving and hallucinating, and somehow survives a concussion-level experience. The story ends on a positive note with nearly ten months clean and sober and a request for dream guests Gibby Haynes and Jason Isbell. Dave then dives into Patreon and Spotify comments, including continuing fallout from the Dopey Sticker Contest. Selby files an official election challenge, claiming the contest was stolen and accusing Dave of failing to refresh Patreon before announcing a winner. Dave doubles down, insisting Felix Heads remains the champion despite accusations of voter suppression, corruption, and sticker fraud. Along the way listeners discuss ADHD, religion, Knicks fandom, kratom recovery, Long Island stories, and the eternal mystery of white crack dealers. The heart of the episode is an incredible interview with Michael Muniz, a 69-year-old Brooklyn native with 36 years sober. Michael tells a quintessential New York story that stretches from Brownsville gangs, schoolyard fights, and witnessing the neighborhood transformation of Brooklyn in the 1960s and 70s to marijuana, acid, cocaine, crack addiction, homelessness, Rikers Island, and ultimately recovery through Phoenix House. Michael shares stories about seeing his deceased father's face in the clouds during an LSD trip, discovering crack in the Cypress Projects and instantly becoming obsessed, losing everything while sleeping on subway trains and wandering New York's tunnels, robbing his mother, surviving violent encounters, and eventually finding his way into Phoenix House. What began as a plan to simply get clean long enough to save money and return to crack eventually became a lifelong recovery journey. The conversation explores therapeutic communities, recovery philosophy, family loyalty, homelessness during the crack epidemic, the culture of Brooklyn neighborhoods, Rikers Island in the 1980s, and the power of second chances. Michael also describes a dramatic courtroom moment where, facing serious federal charges, he convinced a judge to give him probation instead of prison after speaking honestly about recovery and wanting a different life. By the end, Michael reflects on his 36 years of sobriety, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, acting career, and belief that recovery is a lifelong process. Dave and Michael bond over drug dreams, gratitude, family, and the reality that while the desire to get high may never fully disappear, a meaningful life in recovery is infinitely better. The episode closes with Michael from the band Good Kid performing a live version of “Good So Bad,” All that and MORE MORE MORE on the Wednesday dose of that good old Dopey Show! Kevin talks about being hooked on the Knicks before drugs, his first brutal Knicks memory — leaving the Garden early and hearing Reggie Miller's eight points in nine seconds from a cab — and how addiction made him lose interest in everything, including basketball. Dave tells his legendary story of sneaking into Madison Square Garden during a Knicks/Bulls playoff game through a Calypso festival and a stoner kid in concessions. FILM FEST TIX: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 FULL EPISODE: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Long Summary Dave welcomes Heart Attack Doug back to Dopey Tuesday on his birthday, though he's not exactly feeling celebratory after waking up groggy from NyQuil and discovering that his daughter forgot it was his birthday. Doug immediately notices Dave's low energy, launching a conversation about birthday expectations and disappointments. The bulk of the opening centers around a heated debate about the season finale of Euphoria. Dave argues that the show abandoned its core characters and became an entirely different series, while Doug enthusiastically defends it and praises the acting. The two argue over Nate's storyline, Rue's fate, Ali's character arc, and whether the show has any future after its finale. The conversation shifts into prison talk when Montana's latest letter arrives from a Texas prison. Montana shares updates about college classes, Toastmasters, prison job training officers, losing his dog, and staying sober. This leads Doug to speculate about how Dave would survive prison, suggesting he'd either join a gang or become part of a strange collection of intellectuals, misfits, and recovery people. Dave insists he'd survive through entertainment value and his connection to recovery. Dave also reflects on a recent doctor's appointment and how grateful he is not to be regularly drug tested anymore. The conversation spirals into stories about fake urine, the Wizinator, and the absurd lengths addicts go to avoid failing drug tests. The guys read Patreon and Spotify comments, discuss the upcoming Dopey Short Film Festival, promote Patreon, and eventually prepare to reveal the results of the Dopey Sticker Contest. Dopey Film Festival Tickets: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 Patreon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Long Summary This week's Total Replay features Dopey Episode 30, originally recorded in the Lower East Side apartment when Chris and Dave were still figuring out what the show would become. Dave opens by explaining why Episode 29 won't be replayed. It was Ray Brown's first appearance on Dopey, but Ray has repeatedly requested that his early appearances remain offline. Dave pays tribute to Ray and plugs the upcoming Dopey Recovery Film Festival before reflecting on how strange it is to revisit these early episodes. The episode begins with Chris bringing his then-girlfriend Karen onto the show. Karen and Chris discuss meeting on Tinder, their awkward early dates, Chris almost ghosting her, and the bizarre process of figuring out whether they were actually boyfriend and girlfriend. Dave relentlessly interrogates both of them about their relationship while Karen patiently tolerates the nonsense. Karen reveals she had already listened to Dopey before Chris realized it and shares what it was like hearing some of Chris's wilder stories for the first time. The conversation includes a hilarious story about Karen drunkenly inviting Chris over, only for him to arrive and find her passed out on the toilet. The show then veers into classic early Dopey territory: recovery debates, methadone arguments, active addicts, prison stories, and discussions about whether people on maintenance medications should qualify at meetings. The centerpiece of the episode is Chris's legendary LSD story: After relapsing while working at a sober living house, Chris begins ordering drugs from the Silk Road. He buys heroin, cocaine, and some incredibly strong LSD. While attempting to maintain the appearance of sobriety, he takes acid during a screening of The Wolf of Wall Street with his girlfriend Tina. By the time they return home, Chris is tripping hard and realizes his girlfriend is going to notice. His solution? Convince her he's experiencing HPPD (Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder) brought on by meditation. Chris leads a meditation session, then pretends he's suddenly having an LSD flashback. Initially Tina believes him. Eventually guilt gets the better of him and he confesses. Then he immediately tries to convince her he didn't actually take acid after all, causing her to question her own reality before finally admitting the truth again. The story ends with Tina kicking him out while Chris, deep into the trip, worries less about the relationship and more about whether she'll make him carry home a gigantic cast-iron piggy bank he had previously given her as a gift. The episode closes with a discussion about recovery, why addicts laugh at horrifying things they've done, and how the absurdity of addiction becomes funny only after enough distance and healing. A bonafide dopey classic! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
FILM FESTIVAL TICKETS: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 PATREON: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Dave and Alan Manheim return for another classic Dopey Tuesday conversation, this time recorded outside the Dopey studio because of ongoing production issues. Alan immediately launches into a breakdown of his “mutual redevelopment” Manhattan apartment and reminisces about living there for over 50 years while Dave complains about the transformation of his childhood bedroom into the Dopey studio. The conversation drifts into Blake Mycoskie from TOMS Shoes and the Dopey Nation's reaction to a less drug-heavy episode before Alan unveils his newest entrepreneurial fantasy: buying 30 acres upstate to create a solar-powered greenhouse capable of producing meat without animals. This naturally leads into stories about Alan's previous failed business ideas, including indoor lobster farming, eclipse merchandise, imported Chinese knives, underwear futures, cryptocurrency disasters, and the legendary JJ and the Jelly Bean children's books. Dave and Alan then pivot hard into Knicks playoff mania, gambling talk, and the absurdity of spending $1,000 for nosebleed seats at Madison Square Garden. Alan shares a story about his cardiologist's son cashing out a massive preseason Spurs futures bet while Dave reflects on how his father never really took him anywhere growing up besides zoos, museums, and nursing homes. Dave jokes that this emotional neglect may explain how he became a heroin addict in the first place. The episode also dives into Spotify and Patreon comments, listener criticism of Heart Attack Doug, vape addiction rituals, Kratom recovery, and the strange comfort of hearing from the same diehard Dopey listeners every week. The teaser cuts off right before the controversial Patreon comments section, ending with Dave shamelessly trying to convert listeners into Patreon subscribers. FULL SHOW ONLY ON PATREON! Episode 098 brings a double dose of low end theory, welcoming a pioneering pair of underground bass legends percolating on opposite coasts, both cats deep in the streets and boasting decades in the game, with the catalogues and collaborators to prove it. 0:00 - ep.098 preview 3:30 - High Sierra Music Festival 2026 6:30 - The Upful Update 12:00 - intro: Club d'Elf's MIKE RIVARD [aka Micro] 15:00 - INTERVIEW w/ MICRO [83m] 1:38:00 - introducing LONNIE MARSHALL 1:42:00 - INTERVIEW w/ LONNIE [43m] 2:24:30 - afterglow x ViBE Junkie Jamz First up Mike Rivard [aka Micro] - bass/sintir/founder/visionary of Boston's jazz-trance-dub-hop institution known as Club d'Elf. Twas an honor and privilege to finally tap in with Micro after a quarter century of fandom and awe. We chop it up at length about his group's unicorn career, magnificent co-conspirators like the late Mark Sandman, John Medeski, Brahim Fribgane (RIP), Joe and Mat Maneri, Dave Tronzo, and (Friends Of The Pod) Mister Rourke, Adam Deitch, Ryan Zoidis, Jonny G, among several others. We learn about Moroccan sintir; the healing powers of Gnawa trance music; plant medicines and Terrence McKenna; Micro's personal trials and tribulations along the way; his perspective on the integral role of independent music venues; interpolating NOLA Second Line rhythms in tandem with Morrocan traditions; and revisiting his embryonic journeys with the Grateful Dead as a wide-eared, curious youngster. In April 2026, Club d'Elf unveiled their latest full-length LP Loon & Thrush, a positively magnificent affair in a deep, eclectic d'Elf canon brimming with brilliant configurations and bold adventuring. We chase that inspired dialog with another informative chat featuring LA-based bassist/badass Lonnie Marshall from pioneering underground funk/hip-hop squadron Weapon of Choice. Lonnie was kind enough to hop on the line and discuss his life of Nutmeg Music, his bombastic and eclectic history and colorful persona, lineage from the P-Funk family tree and his teenage era rolling with Bootsy Collins' Boot Camp, storytelling and dope collabs, daKAH hip-hop orchestra, recording/gigging with Joe Strummer's debut solo LP/group, reflections on his brother Arik Marshall's brief, chaotic moment with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and long-term run backing Macy Gray. Plus a whole lot more in this educational inspirational get down with the most mega-nutt mug to ever bless these podwaves! Bassist/sintir sorcerer Mike Rivard [aka MicroVard] defies any sort of rigid genre-specifics or generic categorization. The cat finds himself at home in a bewildering array of musical/cultural settings: from the good ol' Grateful Dead to the melancholic-rock of his late friend Mark Sandman and Morphine, to the mountains of Morocco with local Berber musicians, plus side trips into the Broadway pits, and tantric trance sessions with John Medeski and Joe Maneri. A "military brat" coming of adolescence in the wide expanses of Minnesota, he took in the local sounds of Prince, Husker Du, and the free-jazz coming out of the University of Minnesota milieu. Eventually a young Rivard would find himself while hitchiking on Dead tour, further opening up nascent doors of perception. Later, Micro set about embarking on Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music in 1981. After graduating, he studied with jazz legend Dave Holland. Inspired by North African gnawa music, he picked up a Moroccan sintir (three-stringed bass lute) and with guidance from Hassan Hakmoun and Maalem Mahmoud Gania, he has become one of a handful of Western musicians proficient on the instrument. He puts all of the shared sacred teachings and wisdom to good use in Club d'Elf, the jazz-world-dub-electronica squad he formed in 1998. Club d'Elf can be heard across more than 15 albums over the past 25 years; an eclectic, pioneering collective with a vast array of co-conspirators from around the world. Club d'Elf website Instagram new album Loon & Thrush After years grinding it out on the LA scene with his brother Arik in Marshall Law, Lonnie Marshall founded Weapon of Choice in 1992, holding down bass and lead vocals. After a video directed by Geoff Moore for their song "Uppity, Yuppity Doolittle" came to the attention of Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard, the band was signed to Gossard‘s record label Loosegroove. Dopey Film Festival: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 Listen without ads www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This week on the Wednesday Dose of Dopey, Dave opens the show with Brer Brian's Dopey Wednesday anthem and immediately starts hustling tickets for the upcoming Dopey Short Film Festival in New York City. Dave explains that only nine tickets have sold so far and promises cheap tickets, food, fellowship, desserts, filmmakers, and recovery community vibes. He begs the Dopey Nation to come out and support the event while Winnie the dog barks in the background. Before getting to the main interview, Dave plays an absolutely insane voicemail from longtime Dopey contributor JD DeHart about surviving a cocaine overdose during a three-day binge in a trailer in Mississippi when he was 20 years old. JD describes an old-school coke and crack marathon involving an entire ounce of cocaine, nonstop shooting coke, smoking crack, drinking beer, no sleep, no food, and no water. He vividly recounts doing a gigantic shot of cocaine and suddenly entering a terrifying paralysis where he could hear and see everything but couldn't move a single part of his body. JD compares the experience to the Metallica “One” video and explains how his paranoid dealer friend may have saved his life by slapping him awake, giving him water and food, and slowly bringing him out of the overdose. Naturally, once he recovered, the first thing he did was smoke an enormous crack hit. Dave praises the voicemail and thanks JD for consistently contributing incredible stories to the show. Dave then dives into Patreon and Spotify comments responding to last week's controversial Blake Mycoskie episode. Listeners debate rich-guy recovery, psychedelic therapy, AI therapy, polo, founder culture, and whether wealthy people talking about depression is relatable to the average Dopey listener. Some commenters defend the episode and appreciate hearing about mental health and self-worth, while others say they turned it off the moment Blake started discussing AI therapy or learning polo in Argentina. Dave jokes that people should blame John Bukaty for bringing in “woo-woo guests,” but still says he genuinely liked Blake and appreciated trying something different. The comment section also leads to discussions about recovery, privilege, treatment access, government responsibility for addiction, and Dave's ongoing balancing act between growing Dopey and maintaining authenticity. Dave also reads a moving Spotify comment from a listener celebrating 120 days clean after a devastating relapse that nearly destroyed his marriage and relationship with his child. Other listeners compliment Dave's podcasting skills, compare his intros to Marc Maron, and joke about Tesla AI therapy and rich recovery people. Dave also contemplates launching a higher Patreon tier with an exclusive Zoom while openly joking about his “cynical cash grab” tendencies and his need to support his family. The centerpiece of the episode is Dave's long conversation with Skinny Vinny inside Steve-O's Wild Ride podcast van in Sherman Oaks, California. The interview covers almost every phase of Vinny's chaotic life story. Vinny explains how the Wild Ride podcast went on hiatus after backlash surrounding a sarcastic Steve-O clip from an episode with Harlan Williams that got taken out of context online. Vinny talks openly about Steve-O's sensitivity, internet outrage culture, and the emotional toll of constant public criticism. The conversation then shifts into Vinny's upbringing in Connecticut and his lifelong obsession with Jackass. Vinny tells the story of being a kid with a camera glued to his hand, idolizing Bam Margera and Jeff Tremaine, and eventually convincing Bam to punch him in the face at a skate shop signing when he was a teenager. Dave and Vinny reminisce about old Jackass dreams eventually becoming reality years later through recovery and content creation. Vinny dives deep into his addiction history, including following Phish and Bob Weir tours while constantly inhaling nitrous balloons in parking lots, discovering Silk Road drug markets in Vermont, and eventually falling into severe heroin addiction. He recounts horrifying years living in Vermont, where heroin was outrageously expensive, and where he watched his girlfriend overdose in front of her parents after both of them desperately tried to detox using kratom. Vinny also describes his obsession with needles, famously saying, “If I could rig it, I could dig it,” while discussing shooting heroin and eventually shooting liquid LSD purchased from Silk Road. One of the darkest sections of the interview involves Vinny describing his infamous “porta potty bottom.” After burning every bridge and alienating everyone in his life, Vinny ended up secretly living inside a handicapped-sized porta potty in Connecticut while hustling to survive. He explains his daily routine of waking up at sunrise, hiding blankets in bushes, charging his Obama phone at Dunkin Donuts, stealing energy drinks from grocery stores, selling them to bodegas, buying heroin and crack, and repeating the cycle endlessly. Dave and Vinny talk about the terrifying comfort that comes with fully accepting life as a hopeless junkie. Vinny also recounts his arrest, jail sentence, and the legendary “prison pocket” story. Knowing he had to turn himself in, Vinny literally trained his body to smuggle heroin, Xanax, rolling tobacco, papers, and even needles into jail. He explains how he eventually ran out of drugs behind bars and suffered brutally through withdrawal on the top bunk in jail while promising himself he'd never use again — only to get released and immediately return to hustling and heroin. The interview takes a more hopeful turn as Vinny explains how recovery unexpectedly transformed his life. He talks about meeting Zackass in sober living, becoming indispensable behind the camera, eventually becoming a co-host, and later joining Steve-O's Wild Ride. Vinny describes feeling like recovery gave him the exact life he fantasized about as a kid obsessed with Jackass culture. Dave and Vinny repeatedly discuss the strange intersection of manifestation, luck, spirituality, showing up, and being willing to work hard without getting high. Later in the interview, Vinny opens up emotionally about his failed marriage to a Canadian woman, the devastating heartbreak that followed, and the depression that nearly broke him. He describes locking himself in his apartment for 45 days, barely eating, crying himself to sleep, and seriously considering drinking despite years of sobriety. Instead of relapsing, Vinny redirected all of his pain into fitness, weight loss, and self-improvement. He explains how discovering peptides, returning to the gym, diving back into recovery meetings and service work, and focusing entirely on himself ultimately helped him lose over 200 pounds and completely transform his life. The episode ends with Vinny discussing his plans to open a sober living house called The Comeback with a former client from his early recovery days. Dave and Vinny also joke about Canadians, Dopeywood structure problems, podcasting, body dysmorphia, fear dreams, and the strange reality of surviving addiction long enough to accidentally build a meaningful life. Dave closes the episode asking listeners yet again to buy film festival tickets, join Patreon, leave Spotify comments, send voicemails, and stay involved in the Dopey community before ending, as always, with “Stay strong Dopey Nation and fucking toodles for Chris.” Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. DOPEY FILM FESTIVAL TICKETS https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 PATREON www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Summary Dave and Heart Attack Doug return for another chaotic Dopey Tuesday filled with fake beefs, Patreon wars, Action Bronson at Katz's, the upcoming Dopey Short Film Festival, and Doug spiraling after reading mean comments about himself online. Doug claims he could dominate the film festival with his own movie while Dave tries to explain what a short film actually is. The episode bounces between hilarious arguments, recovery talk, Jeff Ross at the Museum of the City of New York, Vermont jam band adventures, and Doug slowly realizing the Dopey Nation might not universally adore him. There's also classic banter about meetings, masculinity, Patreon drama, croissants, Ray Brown, and whether Doug is actually Bruce Willis without a career. LISTEN WITHOUT ADS ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Summary: Dave opens the show talking about Susan's eighth birthday and the family trip to Music on the Mountain in Ludlow, Vermont for the Phoenix and Divided Sky festival featuring Karina Rykman, Eggy, Anders Osborne, Daniel Donato, Natalie Cressman, Jennifer Hartswick, and members of Dogs in a Pile. Dave talks about trying to get the entire crowd to sing Happy Birthday to Susan and gives updates about Patreon, Narcan and fentanyl test strip giveaways, YouTube support, and the upcoming Dopey Short Film Festival sponsored by Mountainside Treatment Center. Dave reads a heartbreaking email from a listener celebrating nearly 60 days sober after quitting freebase coke, Xanax, and Suboxone while grieving the loss of his beloved dog Hesh. Dave reflects on his own fears about losing Winnie and spirals into thoughts about mortality, dogs, and a brass Winnie lamp he bought Linda for her birthday. Ben Croxton calls in with a classic IV Dopey story involving Googling “where to buy heroin in Atlanta,” instant meth psychosis at a job site, a dude hiding in a closet all day, and a cocaine-induced hallucination involving a kangaroo and imaginary police cars. The main interview features Keta Lauren and quickly becomes one of the darkest and most powerful Dopey stories in recent memory. Keta talks about growing up in extreme poverty in Northern California with a schizophrenic addict father and alcoholic mother, bouncing through foster homes, fighting constantly, and eventually landing in California Youth Authority “gladiator school.” She recounts horrific trauma including her father accidentally causing a house fire that killed four of her siblings after leaving a candle burning while gambling. Keta describes getting kidnapped while hitchhiking at age 11, doing meth as a child, surviving brutal YA prison fights, a devastating ATV accident that nearly killed her, and eventually falling into LA drug culture, sex work, heroin addiction, and trafficking. She explains how manipulation, survival, and trauma blurred together while trying to escape dangerous situations and abusive relationships. The conversation shifts toward recovery as Keta talks about finally hitting an emotional and spiritual bottom after years of heroin and meth addiction. She describes seeing herself deteriorate physically and mentally, eventually surrendering and finding treatment after a religious TV preacher bizarrely spoke directly to her situation. She later discusses relapse, AA and NA, psychedelic healing with psilocybin and ayahuasca, bipolar disorder, trauma therapy, and her belief that recovery can take many different forms. The episode closes with Trinity from the Beach reflecting on the interview playing a vulnerable acoustic cover of “Good So Bad” while apologizing for missing Dopey Zoom to record it. LISTEN TO THE WHOLE WONDERFUL EPISODE: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Dave and Ray kick off a weird “Christmas in May” Dopey Tuesday with an old Ray parody song before diving into stories about Chelsea in the ‘90s, addiction nostalgia, Andy Dick, and the destruction of a longtime neighborhood building. Dave talks about working on a Andy Dick interview for Rolling Stone, while Ray reflects on drinking alone, avoiding chaos in public, and their old neighborhood's transformation from rough-and-dangerous to luxury real estate heaven. The episode spirals into hilarious listener reactions to Selby's heavy breathing during the Patreon Reddit Roundup episode, with fans comparing him to Darth Vader, a dying pug, and someone “pleasuring himself at a men's shelter.” Dave and Ray also talk about recovery shame, missing teeth, NYU dental clinics, old LA drug days, soft-core SLA emails, and the weirdness of getting older in recovery. LISTEN WITHOUT ADS ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Summary This Week on Dopey! Dave opens the show reflecting on hosting the Phoenix House Soiree and presenting Hank Azaria with an award in the same neighborhood where he once bought heroin nearly 30 years earlier. He talks about gratitude, recovery, shame, redemption, and how addiction and recovery both shaped his life. Dave reads listener emails featuring cocaine cravings, crack addiction, federal charges, acid smuggling, trap houses, prostitution, and early recovery. Montana Ruckman sends in another brutally honest “day in the life” letter from prison describing drug hustling, scams, theft, hookups, and the loneliness of active addiction. Dave also reads Spotify and Patreon comments reacting to the Zoe Hansen episode and the backlash to Amanda de Cadenet, with listeners praising Zoe's warmth, storytelling, and voice. Then Margaret Cho returns to Dopey for one of the funniest and most honest recovery conversations in recent memory. Margaret talks about approaching 10 years sober, her intervention, rehab, kratom addiction, dry scooping kratom powder, benzo withdrawal, seizures, meth fascination, weed reservations, psychedelic therapy, boofing weed lube, and the strange fantasy of someday growing opium poppies in a psychedelic garden. Dave and Margaret bond over romanticizing drugs, relapse fears, and the dangerous line between humor and real addiction. They discuss ketamine therapy, Bill Wilson taking LSD, Hamilton Morris, the Nick Reiner tragedy, death in recovery culture, and why addicts “walk with death.” The conversation also drifts into Snoop Dogg blunt culture, bong rituals, Errowid drug hacks, and the weird creativity and mythology surrounding addiction. LISTEN WITHOUT ADS ON PATREON for 25 cents a day www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Episode Summary Dave opens this week's Dopey Greatest Hits by explaining the Patreon poll that lets listeners choose classic replay episodes. After Jason Ricci lost a last-minute battle to Dr. Gabor Maté the previous week, this week's theme becomes “kids of famous people,” featuring guests like Jack Osbourne, Mackenzie Phillips, Dwayne Betts, and ultimately the winner: Gilbert Trejo, son of actor Danny Trejo. Dave reads Spotify and Patreon comments reacting to the Jason Ricci replay, including discussions about bipolar disorder, darkness, spirituality, demonology, and the Amanda de Cadenet backlash episode. Tommy from Long Island then calls in with a crack-smoking Dopey story involving a lost $20 bag hidden underneath the center console of a late-90s Toyota Corolla. Dave also reads a brutally honest listener email criticizing the early days of Dopey for chewing into microphones, interruptions, phone ringing, and lack of structure — which Dave both defends and reflects on emotionally. The episode then shifts into a deep and emotional conversation with filmmaker and recovering heroin addict Gilbert Trejo. Gilbert talks about growing up in Venice Beach as Danny Trejo's son, being raised around AA meetings, childhood exposure to recovery culture, fighting, punk rock, skating, and eventually spiraling into heroin addiction. He shares horrifying overdose stories, including trying to revive his best friend while covered in blood, discusses his film From A Son, and reflects on the strange mixture of toughness, secrecy, masculinity, fear, and identity that shaped his addiction. Gilbert and Dave connect deeply over losing close friends to overdose, the mythology of junkie friendships, and the challenge of telling drug stories honestly without glorifying them. The conversation also covers heroin romance, Panic in Needle Park, Venice gang culture, punk shows, crack smoking, addiction genetics, hiding drug use from family, and the relief of eventually becoming comfortable in his own skin. It's one of the rawest and most thoughtful Dopey conversations about addiction, masculinity, survival, and recovery. ALL THAT AND MORE ON THIS NEW OLD EPISODE! He then reads an email from a Scottish listener who got sober from alcohol after discovering Dopey through This American Life, but later spiraled into opioids, heroin, and benzos before finally trying to get clean again after hearing DJ's episode. Then Dave dives into a massive pile of brutal Spotify and Patreon comments reacting to the Amanda de Cadenet episode, with listeners calling her “insufferable,” “guarded,” “pretentious,” and “the worst guest ever,” while others defend her and praise Dave for surviving the awkward interview. Dave opens Monday's Dopey Total Replay by revisiting Dopey Episode 25 from April 2016, titled Cocaine Overdose, Prince. Before the replay, he talks about plans for the Dopey Recovery Film Festival in Manhattan, Patreon perks, the Tuesday Reddit Roundup with Selby and Cormac, and addresses listener reactions to a previous sex-and-love addiction email. He then reads a powerful email from Willow about long-term recovery through Sex Addicts Anonymous and finding sobriety after years of relapse. Next comes a wild voicemail from Bailey in Chicago involving the world's worst drug dealer, accidental crack purchases, a drunken camping trip, bachelor party chaos, abortion scam drama, crack smoking in a tent, and jumping out of a moving truck. Dave then reads Spotify and Patreon comments before launching the classic replay. In the 2016 episode, Dave and Chris react to Prince's death, speculate about addiction, and Chris repeatedly confuses Prince with Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury. They spiral into nonsense about Annie Lennox, Blondie, dancing, and music ignorance. Then Chris tells the main event: a brutal cocaine overdose story involving shooting a huge amount of coke in a bathroom, collapsing violently, a neighbor breaking the door down, and Chris still worrying about hiding the remaining cocaine instead of dying. The episode ends with more chaotic drug stories, sleepwalking on ketamine, early Dopey banter, and one of the first appearances of Chris saying “toodles.” Dave returns afterward reflecting on Chris, the strange beauty of these old recordings, and invites listeners to stay involved with Dopey Nation. FULL EPISODE www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Dave opens another Tuesday teaser by welcoming back Heart Attack Doug and immediately calling Patreon listeners winners and free listeners losers. Doug paints a hilarious picture of arriving at Dave's house to find him shuffling around in a heavy dusty Ralph Lauren robe and knit cap looking 40 years older than he is. They talk about Dave holding down the fort while his partner is away, buying three air conditioners for one room, family stress, and trying to stay productive. Dave describes making breakfast for Nora while Doug offers unsolicited nutrition takes and pushes cheap Aldi eggs. This spirals into a rant about dirty supermarkets, poor-quality yolks, and Popeyes chicken. The conversation shifts into anxiety territory as Dave admits fears of escalators, airports, and bridges. He tells stories about navigating giant Manhattan subway escalators as a kid and nearly panicking while driving over the Throgs Neck Bridge. Doug piles on while also admitting everyone has fears. They read Spotify and Patreon comments about Ray Brown, background noise, body image, and escalator anxiety. Dave uses the comments to plug Dopey's five-shows-a-week schedule and Patreon tiers, including stickers, socks, beanies, ad-free episodes, and even a $100-a-month life coaching tier. Before ending, Dave and Doug tease Doug's recent mysterious bad stretch known only as “two weeks,” available behind the Patreon wall. The show closes with a touching listener cover of the Dopey classic “Good So Bad,” recorded while missing Dopey Zoom because the fan wanted to get it right. FULL EPISODE IS ON PATREON - CHEAPOS! NO ADS - 25 CENTS A DAY ON PATREON!($8 a month) www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This week on the replay! We open this Monday's show by reflecting on starting Dopey with Chris after meeting at Mountainside rehab and why replaying old episodes helps newer listeners understand Chris and the origins of the show. He then reads a long email from listener “Panda,” who says Dopey inspired him to start Couch to 5K and enter a Prospect Park race. Panda shares a brutally honest story about functioning alcoholism, drinking half bottles of liquor nightly, secret crack binges in Manhattan, and eventually quitting alcohol after deep ayahuasca experiences. He explains that psychedelics and microdosing have helped his recovery, while admitting the topic is controversial. Dave reacts with curiosity, jokes, and confusion over the word “mitigable.” Next comes a voicemail from Lauren describing detox desperation: buying dope inside treatment and discovering the syringe she borrowed had been smuggled in someone's butt. Then Dave launches classic Dopey episode 24 featuring vintage Dave and Chris in full chaotic chemistry. They discuss the documentary The Wolf Pack, mock HBO's Vinyl, and tell reckless stories about reviving overdosing addicts by injecting coke. Chris describes the “bell ringer” rush of shooting cocaine while Dave admits he mostly sniffed it. They read an email from listener Emily, leading to one of Chris's most absurd moments — replying that he'd “rest his anus on the microphone and blow you a kiss.” Dave is horrified. The show turns serious when Chris explains how rehab finally worked: he stopped pretending he knew everything, listened to a counselor, and followed directions. Then they remember Francis, a brilliant young musician they met in rehab who openly said he planned to get high after treatment and later died from overdose. Dave returns in present day with Billy Baroo (Randy Robles), one of the first Dopey superfans, who says he has listened since 2016, is still sober, and believes Dopey is better than ever. He praises Dave's growth as an interviewer and the emotional power of replaying old episodes with Chris. ALL THAT AND PROBABLY MORE! on a brand new episode of a 10 year old Dopey show! Listen without ads for 25 cents at www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This Dopey Greatest Hits episode kicks off with Dave introducing a fan-voted theme around iconic TV characters, with Michael Imperioli winning the poll. Dave goes on a classic rant about ads vs Patreon, breaking down the cost to “25 cents a day,” before spiraling into plans for DopeyCon — including a long-shot idea to book Steve Jones during the CBGB Festival. A voicemail delivers pure Dopey chaos: a listener recounts taking acid, drinking, and shooting whiskey bottles in his basement, ultimately blowing apart his finger with a ricochet and attempting to cover it up using an angle grinder. The episode then pivots to a legendary Dopey story from Bill Blaber. After falling deep into crystal meth addiction, Bill describes wandering New York City in full paranoia, convinced AOL was responsible for ruining his life. This leads him to break into a building, climb to the roof, scale a water tower, and pass out inside. He's rescued by the FDNY, greeted by news cameras, and somehow avoids jail by fabricating a story — landing instead in a psych hold. Dave calls it one of the greatest Dopey stories ever before transitioning into an interview with Michael Imperioli, who discusses his early acting career, Goodfellas, working with Scorsese, and the infamous glass-breaking stunt that landed him in the hospital. This week on the total replay! Dave opens the Monday replay talking about bringing his daughters into Manhattan for a museum day, taking them to the Met, walking through the city, and feeling grateful to be sober enough to do it. He also talks about how exhausting it is carrying recording gear back and forth to the city every week. He plays a voicemail from a listener who mixed kratom with alcohol after losing weight and wound up diving through a window, running through a retirement community covered in blood, and waking up in the hospital. Dave reads an email from another listener who got sober after prison, reunited with his son, and says Dopey helped him along the way. The replay itself is an early Dopey episode with Dave and Chris talking in the old apartment setup. They joke about expired cereal, cigarettes in the room, Disney World feeling like rehab, and old-school research chemicals. Dave tells a long Katz's story about upsetting customers, finding a lump in his neck, and then freaking out after hearing a woman at a meeting say her cancer started the same way. The episode also includes an email from a guy deep into dissociatives and psychedelic research chemicals, plus more classic early Dopey energy between Dave and Chris. At the end, Dave reflects on how raw and alive the old episodes felt, and points out that this was also an early appearance of the kind of material that would later become part of Cormac's role in the Dopey world. PATREON - LISTEN WITHOUT ADS - www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast SUMMARY: This Week on Dopey's Greatest Hits! Dave records from his dad's overheated apartment and opens with a long, chaotic conversation about Dopeywood at The Comedy Store. His dad gives a detailed, meandering recap of the trip, the show, and his mixed reactions to the comedians, praising the turnout but criticizing some of the material as confusing and overly raunchy. They argue about politics, language on the show, and listener feedback, including a back-and-forth with a fan upset about violent rhetoric. Dave reflects on tone, community, and the balance between humor and responsibility. The episode includes emails and voicemails about poppy seed tea addiction, with detailed stories about making opioid-like substances from seeds and pods, building tolerance, and the extreme lengths people went to stay well. The second half features a replay of Dave's interview with Steve Earle. Steve talks about growing up surrounded by recovery, with addiction deeply embedded in his family, including relatives who were part of early AA. He says he avoided recovery at first despite seeing that it worked. Steve describes getting high for the first time at age 11 and explains that music and addiction developed side by side but weren't directly connected. He talks about learning guitar from his uncle, discovering Dylan and the Beatles, and becoming obsessed with songwriting and storytelling. He reflects on his career as a musician, the pressure of performing, and how much he depends on audience feedback to feel okay. He also talks about the realities of the music business, losing his band, shifting to solo work, and writing for theater. Throughout the conversation, Steve is blunt about addiction, family history, and the long-term impact of substance use, while also showing humor, insight, and a deep connection to music as both a craft and a survival tool. ALL THAT AND MUCH MUCH MORE! On an old classic episode with my Dad in it TWICE! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. listen without ads on www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This week on Wednesday! Still coming down from the Dopeywood high and talk about productivity, procrastination, and trying to get back on track with the Dopey fitness challenge. Getting older, body image, and whether drastic measures like Ozempic are worth it. We read a wild listener email about someone accidentally receiving a kilo of black tar heroin in the mail and dumping it around Alphabet City, and react to what we would have done in that situation. Then play a voicemail from a listener who shares a brutal story about accidentally burning his dick with farming chemicals while high,. And a bit of DTF St. Louis. We go through Spotify comments, connect with the Dopey Nation, and shout out listeners before bringing on comedian Allie Macofsky. With Ali, we get into nicotine addiction, vaping vs cigarettes, and the weird logic of quitting one thing by picking up another. We talk about early sobriety, relationships, and what it's like to be young in recovery. Ali shares how her drinking escalated quickly in her late teens, including blackouts, risky behavior, and crashing her car, and how she first went to AA just to get her family off her back. We hear how she realized she couldn't control her drinking, got sober at 20, and what it was like working the steps early on. We also talk about stepping away from recovery, becoming depressed, getting on medication, and eventually returning to meetings and finding relief again. The conversation touches on thoughts about drinking again, curiosity around psychedelics, and what it means to stay sober long-term while building a life and career. All that and a little bit more on this classically alcoholic new episode of dopey! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. DOPEYWOOD TICKETS: http://events.leapevents.com/event/dopeywood-2026 Patreon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Dave tees up a Greatest Hits episode featuring Hasnie, a belly dancer turned first responder alcoholic with a wild, emotional story. Before that, we get a classic Dopey email about a reckless dealer named King who jumps out a window during a raid and later crashes a car doing whippets. Then shit gets real when Matt calls in mid-show ready to relapse. Dave and Ray talk him off the ledge in real time — and somehow even his dealers tell him not to use. Hasnie's story is intense: early chaos, booze, pills, sex, trauma, sending her kids away, and hitting bottom hard. She gets sober after a moment of clarity, goes to rehab, and finds her footing in Gay AA and SLAA. She rebuilds her life, gets her kids back (including rescuing her daughter from Ukraine during war), becomes a first responder, and stays sober through COVID and real-life trauma. DOPEYWOOD TIX(ALMOST SOLD OUT!) showclix.com/event/dopeywood-2026 Patreon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Dave sits down with filmmaker Ben Feldman, director of The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother Hillel, for a deep, funny, and emotional conversation about music, addiction, and friendship. They get into the origins of the Chili Peppers, the insane creative scene in 80s LA, and the bond between Flea, Anthony, and Hillel Slovak. Ben talks about making the film, interviewing Flea and Anthony, and how losing his own best friend to addiction shaped the project. Dave connects it all to Dopey—losing Chris, losing Todd, and what it means to keep going after people die. There's talk about sobriety actually being kind of fun, the loneliness of addiction, and the weird magic of finding connection. Plus: listener emails about cocaine and the Chili Peppers, a wild Jamaica Queens dope bust story, Spotify comments, Ram Dass, running, and a banjo cover of “Good So Bad.” It's Dopey meets the Chili Peppers—with grief, laughter, and a lot of heart. DopeyWood Tickets: https://www.showclix.com/event/dopeywood-2026 FULL SHOW ON PATREONL www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast ON THE TEASER: Heart Attack Doug AGAIN! For a chaotic Tuesday episode filled with tangents about music, meetings, and listener feedback. The tone shifts when Dave reads a detailed email from a listener addicted to 7-OH, a potent kratom extract sold in gas stations. What starts as a mild experiment quickly escalates into full dependence, with increasing tolerance, daily use in the hundreds of milligrams, financial strain, secrecy, and failed attempts to quit—even with Suboxone. Dave and Doug react with concern, noting the growing number of similar stories and questioning how such substances are widely available. They emphasize treatment, honesty, and community support, while pushing back against stigma—highlighting that addiction can take many forms, regardless of the substance. DopeyWood Tickets: https://www.showclix.com/event/dopeywood-2026 Patreon for FULL SHOW: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast NOTE: The full episode has huge belly laughs at the end. PLUS: This show is a parody - Jackass is not a hotbed for antisemites Dave opens a Tuesday episode of Dopey with Heart Attack Doug returning after a serious hospital stay. Doug describes ignoring worsening symptoms, eventually going to the hospital, and enduring a chaotic, overcrowded emergency room experience before receiving treatment. Dave contrasts Doug's health scare with the ongoing reality of addiction in the Dopey community, noting how many people still die from drugs. He shares his own recent experience getting sick, likely from food poisoning, after a hike and eating a Trader Joe's chicken Caesar wrap. The episode shifts into community interaction, with Dave reading Spotify and Patreon comments. Many listeners send support to Doug while also jokingly preferring other guests like Aurora. The conversation touches on recovery topics, including sponsorship, honesty, and the mental patterns behind addiction—highlighted by a discussion of the “just one more” mindset. Dave reflects on the Dopey community, expresses appreciation, and teases future stories, including a cliffhanger about nearly being assaulted at a meeting. The episode ends with a listener performance of “Good So Bad.” Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Dopeywood Tickets: https://www.showclix.com/event/dopeywood-2026 Patreon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This week on the Total Replay! Steve Poltz is now officially part of the Dopeywood lineup! a Before the replay, Dave reads a long email from a listener who describes heroin and fentanyl use in Los Angeles, Portland, and New York City. The listener overdoses after snorting fentanyl in a car at a stoplight, uses again in the hospital, and later recounts several New York heroin connections involving Union Square, Harlem, Tompkins Square Park, Williamsburg, and an arrest that led to community service. A walk down memory lane. We then read Spotify comments about the Jeremy episode, including an apology from EK Fleck about criticizing his ibogaine story, and share a funny old story about Jeremy improvising with a shoe during a high school musical. The replayed old Dopey episode features Dave and Chris joking about who their listeners are, whether they are sober or using, and Chris mentioning that his sponsor hated the show and compared it to Wayne's World. Dave then tells a story about a guy in Los Angeles who insisted on seeing him before his flight, drove him away from the airport to smoke weed, and indirectly caused Dave to realize he had missed his flight. The old episode ends with a brief discussion of “flash blood,” a dangerous practice in which people inject blood drawn from someone who has just used heroin. After the replay, Dave says he decided not to play Episode 21 after all. He reminisces about the Vietnamese food he and Chris always used to eat while recording. He then reads an email and plays a voicemail from Sarah. In the email, she describes relapsing after a car accident, getting pulled into kratom and then 7-OH, and feeling trapped in a cycle of dishonesty, withdrawal, and failed attempts to quit. In her voicemail, she talks about growing up in a culture where drinking was normalized, working in restaurants, blacking out regularly, and eventually realizing she had cracked her own windshield during a blackout and almost driven into a lake. She says she now has about two and a half years sober from alcohol. ALL THAT AND MORE! MORE! MORE! MORE! on a brand new episode of Dopey! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
