Dolly's Departure, Riverboat Revelations & Trailer Park Shenanigans

The Rizzuto Show

We have some explaining to do.The episode begins with Riz waking up to some major news. Obviously, he assumes everyone is talking about the Becky Thatcher, the first new riverboat joining the St. Louis riverfront fleet in nearly four decades.Nobody is talking about the riverboat. They're talking about Dolly Parton. After the show had recently discussed concerns about Dolly's health, the news of her death arrives—and listeners immediately activate the long-running Rizz Show curse. The inbox fills with variations of “YOU KILLED DOLLY.” Riz insists he did no such thing. The audience has apparently already held a trial and reached a verdict. What follows is a genuinely emotional remembrance of Dolly, particularly from Lern, who talks about growing up in a family of women who adored her and what Dolly represented as a funny, strong, generous woman who never seemed interested in punching down. The crew discusses the flood of tributes, her influence, her sense of humor and the strange feeling when an icon dies and suddenly your entire social feed becomes one giant memorial. They also revisit Dolly's legendary sense of humor through her old Letterman Top 10 appearance and a story about her attitude on the set of Steel Magnolias. It's heartfelt, funny and a reminder that occasionally this daily comedy operation is capable of experiencing an actual human emotion.Don't get used to it.Because we immediately pivot to the continuing saga involving the 49ers owner and the mobile-home community that got unwillingly dragged into headlines surrounding his arrest.Turns out the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community would like everybody to know something very important: THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.According to the discussion, the mobile-home park was simply where he happened to pull over during the police operation. It wasn't part of the sting. Nobody was operating anything out of one of the trailers. The neighborhood just had the misfortune of becoming the funniest possible location to put in a headline. Our apologies to Wheat Hill.Naturally, this clarification leads to approximately half an hour of the crew discussing mobile homes.Rafe explains growing up in a single-wide in southern Illinois with five people, where mounted deer were apparently standard interior design. Except his family couldn't necessarily spring for full taxidermy, so Dad would clean the skull, mount the antlers and put the whole thing on a homemade wooden arrowhead.HGTV has been suspiciously quiet about this aesthetic.Lern remembers the time a giant taxidermied boar head unexpectedly arrived at her family home while her dad was away. Her little sister declared it a monster, Mom immediately banned it from civilized society, and now the boar apparently lives in the dark storage section of the basement waiting for somebody to make one wrong turn at night.Obviously, the show wants it for the office. Then Moon and Rafe provide an unexpectedly thorough education in mobile-home expansion. First you get the trailer. Then comes the lattice. Then the deck. Then another room. Maybe a wood-burning stove. Another deck. Perhaps an above-ground pool with a deck around that. Keep going long enough and the original mobile home becomes the chewy nougat center of an entire residential compound.Rafe also remembers winters when the back of his family's trailer got so cold they hung a blanket across the hallway, fired up the wood stove and everybody slept in the main room. There are old Formica tables. Ancient carpet capable of producing immediate rug burn. Indoor cigarette smoke. Storm shelters. Tornado theories. Wind chimes. Lawn ornaments. Shot-up road signs—allegedly. Abandoned farm equipment. Old horse trailers. And a neighbor who apparently kept woodworking after losing enough fingers that maybe the universe was trying to send a message. It becomes a weirdly affectionate trip through rural childhood, poverty and the things families do to turn whatever they have into a home.Eventually, this daily comedy episode escapes Trailer Park Memory Lane and celebrates National Toilet Paper Day, which leads to an important debate about toilet paper being too soft. Then Rafe describes encountering a handheld bidet sprayer with enough water pressure that incorrect usage could apparently result in a medical evacuation. There's also the nostalgic horror of padded toilet seats, because nothing says “luxury bathroom” quite like sitting on a cracked vinyl cushion that has seen generations of bare asses.National Dog Day brings happier territory as the crew talks about America's popular dog breeds, mutts versus designer breeds, and why mixed-breed dogs may secretly have everything figured out. Then the conversation wanders into genetic modification and the possibility of glow-in-the-dark animals, which naturally leads Moon to conclude that Jurassic Park is inevitable and he will absolutely buy a ticket. Finally, Carrot Top enters the conversation because this show respects narrative structure about as much as a raccoon respects a locked trash can.So yes: Dolly Parton, a new St. Louis riverboat, an NFL-owner controversy, trailer-park vindication, taxidermy, tornado shelters, toilet paper, dangerous bidets, dogs, genetically modified animals and Carrot Top.That is daily comedy. We're sorry.Mostly.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Summer is basically over, the kids are back in school, and some of them returned home looking like they'd just completed a six-month combat deployment instead of one day of algebra. Naturally, that sends The Rizzuto Show down memory lane to discuss suspiciously easy senior-year schedules, bowling classes, walking classes, movie classes, and the beautiful teenage realization that maybe calculus simply isn't going to be part of your personal journey.NFL chaos with the story of 49ers owner Jed York and an alleged prostitution sting in East Palestine, Ohio. The crew tries to understand how a man connected to billions of dollars somehow ends up at the center of a $140 Sunday-morning situation in a mobile home community.A workplace prank involving heavy machinery that ended in tragedy. That leads into a rundown of some of the deadliest jobs in America, including logging, commercial fishing, roofing, steel work, trash collection, aviation, mining, construction, and landscaping. Suddenly sitting in a radio studio complaining about the air conditioning doesn't seem quite as heroic. And because The Rizzuto Show can never stay on one subject for more than the medically recommended amount of time, Fujifilm sends everybody tumbling into a conversation about words that instantly reveal your age. “Videotape.” “Pocketbook.” “Slacks.” “Icebox.” “Billfold.” “Filling station.” “Supper.” Welcome to the portion of the show where everyone discovers they're approximately 900 years old. Then it's time to discuss the upcoming iPhone and whether spending around $1,200 on another rectangle that looks suspiciously like your current rectangle is still exciting. The show heads Back in the Day for anniversaries involving The Wizard of Oz, Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run, Boston's legendary debut album, Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah and more.ZZ Top plays its first show following the death of drummer Frank Beard, the crew attempts to demonstrate its vast knowledge of Quando Rondo, Ella Langley continues her monster chart run with “Choosing Texas,” and Miranda Lambert enters the conversation thanks to a songwriting story involving a kangaroo. Because sure. The Terminator 2 cast reunion also gets reviewed with all the tact and restraint you've come to expect from this comedy podcast. Edward Furlong gets some love, everybody realizes he was only 13 while filming the movie, and Rafe delivers the completely unnecessary observation that the reunion photo looks like “the future they were trying to prevent.”Then the show turns to a frightening story out of Columbia, Missouri, where a 21-year-old former Mizzou student suffered severe injuries after falling from the rooftop area at Harpo's. The crew talks about what was known about the accident, the young man's condition, and their own experiences with Columbia's downtown, the Blue Note, Shakespeare's, old venues, King Scott's favorite Wal Mart and the college-town scene. It's a genuinely awful situation, and everybody's hoping the kid pulls through. And then Simpleton Trivia arrives to destroy everybody's self-esteem.The premise sounds insultingly easy: answer 10 common-knowledge questions in 45 seconds. Get one wrong and you're immediately done. Czabe welcomes ANDY POLLIN as the NFL deals with a shocking — and embarrassing — wildcard story of Niners owner Jed York getting busted for soliciting a $140 prostitute in Ohio. But is it worse than Vrabel with Russini? What will the league do? Probably nothing. The Browns have named Deshaun Watson their Week 1 starter, and Czabe sees *some* (but not much) logic to it. Dan Snyder is a forgotten man, in another land, and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving asshole. The shield was behind Mike Tirico getting cock-blocked from the original Thursday Night Football in favor of "Over The Hill Al," and what happens IF the league needs network TV more than the other way around? Trailer Park's doors are closed, but the tribute rolls on. Chapter 2 picks up as the shop outgrows Cahuenga, settles into the Santa Monica Boulevard building and then Ivar, and finally lands the industry rock star it had been courting for two years. Tim Nett, Benedict Coulter, Brett Winn, Ellie Speare, Charlotte Honess, and Charlie Austin trace how a scrappy comedy house grew into a full-service powerhouse without losing what made it fun. Part reunion, part masterclass in the culture that kept people around for decades. In this episode: The rock star joins the band. After seventeen years at Kaleidoscope and a stint at Aspect, Benny Coulter passed on a bigger offer to become an owner at the scrappy shop instead. His action and drama work alongside Tim's comedy turned Trailer Park into a true full-service house. Do three, send six. The signature move was over-delivering on purpose. Clients asked for three cuts and got six at no charge, and most of the shop's awards came from the spots nobody requested. No brilliant jerks. Talent alone never got you hired. Anyone who wouldn't fit the family stayed out, no matter how good, and that rule is a big reason Ellie Speare stayed twenty years. A few lines that landed: "It didn't matter how brilliant they were. If they weren't gonna fit in, they weren't welcome." (Tim Nett) "I was thinking about the money. Then I said, no, no, no. I'm going to Trailer Park." (Benedict Coulter, on turning down a bigger offer to become an owner) "Everyone said, 'You're a girl, you can't cut action.' Benny said, 'Absolutely you can.'" Trailer Park's theatrical division has closed its doors, so we gathered five of the people who were there at the very beginning. Tim Nett, Jim Hale, Ann Mugglebee, Mike Southerly, and Tommy Gargotta trace the company from a single rented edit bay on Cahuenga to a sign you could spot from miles away. Part origin story, part reunion, and a fitting tribute to where it all started. In this episode: One rented room, one Avid. The whole thing began when Tim rented a single bay from commercial editor Jacques Dury, back when an Avid ran around $150K. The crew grew room by room until they took over the building. Culture was the product. Before pleasing clients, the team's first job was making each other laugh. A building so small you could hear every bay (and shout notes through the wall) built a bond that outlasted the company. Scrappy beat safe. A handful of clients took a leap of faith on a brand-new shop run by people barely into their thirties, and that trust launched something that ran for decades. A few lines that landed: "We were all, like, kids. We had no business starting a company." (Tim Nett) "We were laying down train track that we didn't even realize we were laying down." (Ann Mugglebee) "Can you believe we were part of that?" (Tommy Gargotta, on spotting the Trailer Park sign from the freeway) Brought to you by the Golden Trailer Awards and APM Music. goldentrailer.com www.apmmusic.com

In this conversation, he sits down with Savannah to talk about the path that took him from working at Walmart and paying his own way through school to helping shape major legislation that impacts millions of Americans.Jason breaks down the policies behind the One Big Beautiful Bill, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, child tax credits, Trump Investment Accounts, and what he believes these changes mean for working families across the country. He also explains why he spent years traveling the country listening to farmers, small business owners, factory workers, and everyday Americans before putting pen to paper.Beyond tax policy, the conversation turns to foster care reform, prison reform, health care, AI, energy policy, and the challenges facing the next generation. Jason shares why his upbringing still guides every decision he makes and why he believes public service should always start with the people you represent.Whether you follow politics closely or just want to understand how decisions in Washington affect your daily life, this is a conversation about opportunity, perseverance, and what it means to never forget where you came from.Thank you to our sponsors for supporting our show!- Quince: Step into the holiday season with layers made to feel good, look polished, and last—with Quince. Kris McDonald is a Creative Director and Senior Editor at XAV, and the founder of Behind the Trailer — a free educational platform dedicated to helping aspiring trailer editors break into the business and level up their craft. He came up through Open Road and Trailer Park before landing at XAV (which was Project X at the time), where he's built a career cutting campaigns for major studio and streaming titles including The Chosen, The Big Cigar, and Deepwater Horizon. In this episode, Kris traces his path from runner to creative director, reflects on the mentors and moments that shaped him, and pulls back the curtain on what it actually takes to cut a trailer that makes an audience stop breathing. Key Takeaways Say yes to everything — even the soccer video. Early in his career, Kris was asked to cut a highlight reel for a client's daughter's graduation party. He treated it like a studio campaign, stayed late, and poured everything into it. The client loved it, sat him down in the bay, and introduced him to the work of Nick Temple. The lesson: every cut is an audition. Set a goal, then chase it down. After learning that his mentor Adrian finished his first trailer at 25, Kris made it a personal mission to hit that same milestone. He cut constantly, studied obsessively, and hit the mark — finishing his first trailer on The Blind Side right around his 25th birthday. Emotion, story, rhythm — in that order. Kris breaks down the three pillars he builds every cut around, drawn from Walter Murch's In the Blink of an Eye. A trailer can be slick and fast and technically impressive, but without emotion, it doesn't land. Trial and error is the process. When asked about a gut-punch moment of silence in the Deepwater Horizon trailer, Kris was refreshingly honest: he knew what he wanted the audience to feel, but finding the right technique was pure experimentation. Knowing the destination and figuring out the route are two different skills. Behind the Trailer exists to pay it forward. Everything Kris knows, he learned because someone in a bay was willing to show him their sequences and give him notes. Behind the Trailer is his way of making that kind of mentorship available to anyone who wants it — for free. Standout Quotes "I want you to feel like you can't breathe. I know that this is the moment of the trailer where your breath is taken away. Now, how do I do that?" "I cut a lot of bad trailers. I got good at creating an open, but then it would just drag." "Any sort of information I can give back to people wanting to get into this industry — that's the number one goal." "This is my dream job. I'll never stop cutting." Movie Mike dives into the millennial optimism era which is being described on TikTok as a strangely comforting, slightly delusional time in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Mike shares what movies best represent this era from 500 Days of Summer to Easy A as he remembers a world of hipster aesthetics, early Instagram, and a belief that life would only improve, often contrasting with current, more cynical times. Mike gives his mini review of Disney-Pixar’s Hoppers. In the Movie Review, Mike shares his thoughts on THE BRIDE! starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale. It takes place in 1930s Chicago where a groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious brings a murdered young woman back to life to be a companion for Frankenstein's monster. Mike shares his thoughts on Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale’s amazing performances but ultimately why it felt like Maggie Gyllenhaal was holding back on the story she wanted to tell. In the Trailer Park, Mike breaks down Scary Movie 6 and the long awaited return of the Wayans brothers. Can a raunch parody movie of this magnitude work in today’s climate? It marks the return of Anna Faris and Regina Hall 26 years after the original film first hit screens. New Episodes Every Monday!
