On this episode of Tent Show Radio, Milwaukee singer/songwriter Trapper Schoepp performs tunes from his latest release, Siren Songs. Trapper Schoepp is a storyteller. Both in his songs and between them in live performances, he seemingly never tires of telling stories—his own and those he witnesses, learns about and dreams up. Through his unwavering commitment to authenticity and unrelenting passion for storytelling, Schoepp not only pays homage to the roots of American music but also pushes the boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on the ever-evolving tapestry of sound. In 2019, Milwaukee's Trapper Schoepp hit a songwriter's jackpot: a co-write with Bob Dylan. The circumstances behind the song titled, “On, Wisconsin” were wildly serendipitous, and made Schoepp the youngest musician to share a co-writing credit with the Nobel Prize laureate. A collaboration 57 years in the making, “On, Wisconsin” led to features in Rolling Stone and Billboard, an album called Primetime Illusion, and nearly a hundred international tour dates. Schoepp continues down the trail trod by his musical heroes with his latest release, Siren Songs, an album of 12 songs filled with timeless folklore and nautical imagery. In a fortunate stroke of serendipity, Trapper is joined on two tracks by Sarah Peasall McGuffey, who famously lent her vocal talents to the aforementioned film. Trapper sings alongside his brother and bassist, Tanner Schoepp, with characteristic blood harmony, the unique blend of sibling singers. The studio band included drummer Jon Radford (Justin Townes Earle), John Jackson on mandolin and violin, Patrick Sansone on keys, Quinn Scharber on Nashville tuned guitar, and Jim Hoke (Dolly Parton, Paul McCartney) on tin whistle and accordion. Making a Scene Presents Gerry Casey's Interview with Trapper Schoepp“What's most important to me is to be a link in the chain of folks singers before and after my time,” Trapper Schoepp says in light of his forthcoming album, Siren Songs. Recorded at Johnny Cash's Cash Cabin in Hendersonville, TN, Trapper continues down the trail trod by his musical heroes. In 2019, the Milwaukee singer-songwriter published a long lost song with Bob Dylan called “On, Wisconsin” – making him the youngest musician to share a co-writing credit with the Nobel Prize laureate. The song led to a #1 trending article in Rolling Stone and over a hundred tour dates worldwide. http://www.makingascene.org
099 - Trapper Schoepp In episode 99 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host James Patrick Regan speaks with guitarist Trapper Schoepp. In their conversation they cover: Recording his latest album “Siren Songs” that was recorded in Johnny Cash's cabin in Hendersonville, TN. He used Johnny's ‘30's era Martin that has a reputation in itself. And he had an opportunity to play Luther Perkins Fender Telecaster. They discuss growing up in Minnesota moving to Milwaukee and his musical education brought by his dad's record collection and a very bad BMX bike accident that led to a serious spinal surgery and a purchase of a Martin guitar. They discuss a chance meeting while vintage clothes shopping that led to a find of a pristine 1930's era Rickenbaker lap steel. And another chance meeting with a relative of the Dopyera brothers in a park led to the gift of a vintage Dobro. They discuss a few more random guitar gifts that are a little more than spectacular. . WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Amplifying Wisconsin Music Episode 092 Joey's Song raises the funds needed to support cutting-edge research and vital patient services in support of pediatric epilepsy and children with special needs. HOW JOEY'S SONG RAISES FUNDS Because of Joey's love for music, our foundation uses music as our primary fundraising vehicle. Each year, we host a benefit concert that features multi-platinum recording artist and 3-time Grammy winner Butch Vig and his band, The Know-It-All Boyfriends (aka KIAB), who serve as a house band to a steady stream of musical stars. Our Joey's Song family of artists include: Brian Aubert (Silversun Pickups); Charlie Berens (The Manitowoc Minute); Peter Buck and Mike Mills (R.E.M.); Neko Case; Rosanne Cash; Miguel Cervantes (Hamilton); Cory Chisel; Chris Collingwood (Fountains Of Wayne); Ralph Covert (The Bad Examples); Cowboy Junkies; Crash Test Dummies; Marshall Crenshaw; Justin Currie (Del Amitri); Tanya Donelly and Gail Greenwood (Belly); Butch Vig and Duke Erikson (Garbage); Steve Forbert; Robbie Fulks; Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!); Jon Dee Graham (True Believers); Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo); Joel Hodgson (Mystery Science Theater 3000); Kelly Hogan; Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow); Jewel; Freedy Johnston; Sam Llanas (BoDeans); Gary Louris and Mark Olson (The Jayhawks); Jesse Malin; Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers); Scott McCaughey (Minus 5); Michael Mcdermott; Rhett Miller (Old 97s); Montgomery Gentry; Dan Navarro (Lowen & Navarro); Miles Nielsen; Rick Nielsen and Daxx Nielsen (Cheap Trick); Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket); Dave Pirner (Soul Asylum); Linda Pitmon (Zuzu's Petals); Brian Ray (Paul Mccartney); Matthew Ryan; Trapper Schoepp; Jody Stephens (Big Star); Ken Stringfellow (The Posies); Aaron Tippin; Zach Williams (The Lone Bellow); and Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate). Since Joey's death in 2010, we have produced 5 charity compilation CDs featuring rare and previously unreleased music from nationally known, award-winning musicians. Our CDs are all available as digital downloads. Radio stations from Australia to the UK to South America to Japan to Sweden and everywhere in between have played our songs. CDs have been downloaded in over 25 countries worldwide. Joey's Song was started in 2010 following the death of four-year-old Joey Gomoll, who passed one week shy of his fifth birthday. Joey suffered from a rare and debilitating form of epilepsy known as Dravet Syndrome. Dravet's caused persistent seizures which were never able to be controlled through medications leading to severe learning disabilities. While Dravet's robbed Joey of the ability to speak, Joey remained a happy and fun-loving child. He was happiest when music was playing, allowing him to hum, drum, and sing in his own way. To be present when music was playing meant only one thing, that Joey would soon have you dancing and enjoying the music with him.

Sam Foster is a road dog. He lives and breathes the idea that repetition and regularity are the chisels to refine his craft. Hailing from Winston-Salem, Foster emerged on the North Carolina music scene in 2014. He's brought his brand of tenacity to eager crowds all over the Southeastern United States ever since. Foster is a little bit country, a whole lotta rock and roll. While drawing much inspiration from legends of country music past and present, Foster's sound can be more broadly described as rock. His roots run deep into the vein of American music, and he's continually inspired by folk, soul, rock, and rhythm and blues. After releasing his debut solo album Rough Edges (The First Cuts) in 2015, followed by 2018's Hardened Hearts, Foster formed Whiskey Foxtrot with singer-songwriter Seth Williams. The result was 2020's Hard Lines & Headlights - the first and only studio offering from the outfit. In late 2021, after splitting with Whiskey Foxtrot, Foster formed a backing band and now tours as both a solo act as well as Sam Foster and The Obsolete. Foster is proud to announce the release of Heatwaves, his first record with The Obsolete. Out June 17, 2022, the record retains Foster's roots in country and Americana but forges ahead into new territory for the leadman. On “Let Me Out,” “Loud & Clear,” and the eponymous “Heatwaves,” Foster's lyrics evidence a clear, growing concern with our planet and all the people on it. He digs into local lore with “Memorial Day” and “Get It Tonight,” and reveals his own story with “Seven Alarm” (sobriety) and “Drama Queen” (social anxiety). Heatwaves displays Foster's full range of musical styles, and is a testament of where Foster is today on his artistic journey. Sam Foster has shared the stage with national touring acts such as American Aquarium, Seth Walker, Adam Hood, and Trapper Schoepp.

Trapper Schoepp is not your typical music star. In fact, when he's not writing, rehearsing, or touring, you might see him riding his bike to the beach, working in his garden, or tossing frisbees. And you'd be wise to not interrupt him when he's binging Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But his journey to music is unique: a BMX injury netted him a guitar and a new hobby from which he's created a successful career. Learn more about all of this with Adam and Steve on this inspiring episode. Then ride over to Summerfest and catch Trapper on September 10th at 8:00 PM on the Miller Lite Oasis Stage.
It is a pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter Trapper Schoepp to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. In 2019, the Milwaukee resident made headlines when he put a significant accomplishment on his resume – a co-write with music legend Bob Dylan. In 1961, the “Blowin' in the Wind” singer-songwriter recorded a song about Wisconsin in the Columbia Studios. However, he lost the lyrics sheet. Years later, the lyrics resurfaced, and it was auctioned for $30,000. Trapper took the opportunity and set the words to music. With Bob Dylan's permission, he released the song – “On, Wisconsin,” and it caught the attention of significant media outlets such as Billboard, National Public Radio (NPR), and Rolling Stone. Throughout his career, Trapper shared the stage with a plethora of Americana groups such as Frank Turner, the Jayhawks, Old 97's, and the Wallflowers. He also performed live streams for socially conscious organizations such as Guitars 4 Vets, Harmony 4 Hope, and RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network). In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Trapper spoke about his new album: May Day, and some of the stories behind some of the tracks. He also talked about opening for Wilco on September 10 for Summerfest.

I sat down w rock n roll fiddle player Gina Romantini, who has played with Milwaukee artists Trapper Schoepp and Whiskey of the Damned as well as national acts The Wallflowers, Fountains of Wayne, and The Doobie Brothers to name a few. Originally from Milwaukee, she currently lives in LA. We had an afternoon beer as we discussed Gina's origins playing music, clout culture, accountability, getting connected in the industry, and what she's been up to during quarantine. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ben-slowey/support
Through the years, Trapper Schoepp has released four excellent albums, played hundreds of shows all over the U.S. and Europe, shared the stage with some of music's most noted names, had songs on television, and has established himself as one of Wisconsin's premier performers. Oh, and he also has a co-writing credit with Bob Dylan! Before he was making a living as a musician and collaborating with legends, Schoepp was a kid in Ellsworth, Wisconsin who took up the guitar after suffering a BMX-related injury. Now that the pandemic has canceled his European tour and thrown a wrench in his usually busy summer show schedule, Schoepp has some time to catch up with My First Band host Tyler Maas. Over the course of the conversation, the accomplished singer-songwriter talked about the ways he's keeping busy and staying productive, his experience playing a few socially distant drive-in shows, and the unexpected set of circumstances that led to him finishing a song Dylan started many years earlier. Of course, Scheopp also looked back on his early on-stage experiences, including important albums his dentist gave him, memories of his first shows, enduring some rowdy Social Distortion fans, being stranded in a small town on the way home from tour and formative figures that helped bring him to the place he is today. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and wherever else you get podcasts. Music used in this show comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and Trapper Schoepp ("Keep Me In Your Heart" and "On, Wisconsin").
I sat down w long-running musician Jon Phillip, who currently fronts the rock project Mini Meltdowns. He has played in Limbeck as well as w Trapper Schoepp, Tommy Stinson, and Paul Collins. He is currently based in Nashville, where he plays in the bands Fresh Basil and Baby Brains. And he co-founded Good Land Records. He's done a lot. We had coffee and discussed Jon's eighteen-year long tenure in Milwaukee music before he moved to Nashville, Limbeck's recent first shows in Milwaukee/Chicago in twelve years, the new Mini Meltdowns EP, his record label, and his sobriety. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ben-slowey/support
We look forward with 20/20 vision to 2020 even as we continue to look back to 2019 and remember fellow travelers with Bob Dylan who passed away.
Peter interviews and jams with Trapper Schoepp, who talks about his music influences, a special vintage guitar, and a song he co-wrote with Bob Dylan.
We looked at the city's number of measles cases last week on episode 21, and new numbers this week show that the outbreak continues to grow. Within the city, there have now been 498 total confirmed cases, and increase of 32 over last week, and in data from the CDC, the nationwide total is now at 839. A new school has been ordered closed this week for failure to follow the city health commissioner's public health emergency plan introduced last month. On May 13th, the city ordered the Yeshiva of Central Queens closed for failing to "exclude unvaccinated students for 21 days following a known exposure at the school." This is the 9th school closed by the city, and all others have since been allowed to reopen after modifying their practices to comply with the emergency plan. This outbreak is the worst the United States has seen since 1994, when the yearly total was 928 cases nationwide. In response to the ongoing outbreak of measles, the city has partnered with local (hut 'zu lah) Hatzolah emergency medical groups and the Maimonides Medical Center to make the measles vaccine available to the community, regardless of medical insurance or ability to pay. Various times and locations are available on a poster provided by the city that you can view online, or you can call 311 for more information or stop by the Hatzolah offices Boro Park, Williamsburg, or Flatbush. Within the city, Orthodox Jewish communities are hardest hit due to a combination of unvaccinated individuals and travelers returning from Israel, where there has been an outbreak of measles since last year. In the city health department data, Williamsburg has the highest total number of cases, at 379, and has added 20 new cases just in the previous week. The city has also carried through with restrictions outlined in an official health department declaration from last month, closing multiple schools and citing 98 individuals for failing to show proof of vaccination or to obtain a new vaccination. Measles is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air as sick individuals cough or sneeze. The measles vaccination is included in MMR shots, standing for measles, mumps, and rubella, that contain a specially-weakened form of the virus that trains the body's immune system on how to defend against that virus in the future. For information on where to obtain a measles vaccination, call 311 or view information from the Department of Health at nyc.gov/doh. 100 years ago on May 16, 1919 — Members of the "Russellites" religious sect living in Brooklyn receive reduced sentences after being charged with distributing anti-war materials. 135 years ago on May 17, 1884 — P.T. FDNY fire investigators determined the cause to have been an open flame on the stove, and that Andrea Pollidore had a habit of disabling the smoke detector while she cooked because it would begin to alarm so easily. A source told NBC4 that the stove was found in the "on" position, so it seems to have been left burning at some point that day and eventually fire spread late in the night, when smoke overtook the apartment before the family inside could escape. Killed in the fire were 4 y/o Elijah, 6 y/o Brooklyn, 8 y/o Andre, 11 y/o Nakyra, their mother Andrea Pollidore, and family friend 32 y/o Mac Abdularauph, who was previously reported as a step-son. With an infectious personality and a flashy style behind the drums, Jon Phillip has laid down beats for nearly a dozen different bands since he first picked up the sticks in the early '90s. Phillip's first bands — Tralfez and Spank Child — were based in the rural town of Grafton, Wisconsin, where he grew up. He then joined the up-and-coming power-pop group the Benjamins, who would go on to sign with Drive-Thru Records and tour the country several times over. Following the Benjamins, Phillip briefly played in the Nice Outfit before forming the roots rock band the Obsoletes with Justin Perkins and Tim Schweiger, who previously played together in Yesterday's Kids. Phillip went on to drum for the alt-country band Limbeck, of Doghouse Records. And the prolific drummer has since played with a string of other nationally known acts, including Berwanger, the Wildbirds, Screeching Weasel, Paul Collins Beat, Trapper Schoepp and Tommy Stinson. Stinson, of course, is known for being a member of both the Replacements and Guns & Roses. Phillip is now fronting the punk group Mini Meltdowns, which features Scott Schoenbeck (Promise Ring, Dashboard Confessional and Rx Drugs) on bass. Phillip also runs Good Land Records, an independent record label, from his Nashville home.
WMSE is excited to be back once again at Club Garibaldi for our monthly Local/Live segments! We’re ready for another great year of local music and on Tuesday, January 8th, we kick the year off with a bang and open the doors to welcome to the stage Milwaukee’s Trapper Schoepp, who has a brand new album to share. Trapper Schoepp’s newest, ‘Primetime Illusion’ – produced by Pat Sansone (Wilco, Robyn Hitchcock) – will see its worldwide release on Xtra Mile Recordings on January 25th. This time around, it sees Schoepp reaching for his own place in the canon with a truly remarkable collection of character-driven songs and stories, a carefully etched series of sonic snapshots in which people we all know struggle to fulfill their own American dream. The album also features a co-write with Bob Dylan called, “On, Wisconsin.” With its extraordinary melding of the personal and political, ‘Primetime Illusion’ firmly places Trapper Schoepp amongst the long American continuum of singing storytellers, a pedigree and place on the family tree that inspires and drives him each and every new day. As always, WMSE Music Director Erin and co-host Cal will lead the our musical guests through questions in between the live performance with the help of our audience (and audience participation is encouraged!). YOU can join WMSE and Trapper Schoepp for a sneak peek of ‘Primetime Illusion’ – doors are at 5:30pm and the segment starts at 6pm, running until 7pm. Club Garibaldi’s is located at 2501 S. Superior Street in Bay View. If you can’t join us in-person, listen live over the airwaves (or in the WMSE archives) at the 6 o’clock hour. This 21+ event is FREE and open to the public. Local/Live on WMSE is sponsored by Club Garibaldi.

“On Rangers & Valentines, Schoepp continues to write narrative-driven songs, something he’s improved on from his first two albums, 2009’s Lived and Moved and 2011’s Run, Engine, Run. He drops his characters into adrenaline-filled situations – diseases, natural disasters, even war – to see how they endure in the face of danger. It may sound dramatic, but many of the dire situations come straight from Schoepp’s life. “‘His whole personality revolves around telling people stories,” says the band’s former guitarist, Graham Hunt. “He’s the kind of guy that weird, funny situations follow him around, so he’s always got fuel for his stories.'” ~Milwaukee Magazine
Welcome to the very first installment of the “Heard Here” podcast. For me, there’s no better artist to kick-off the podcast with than one of my favorites, Trapper Schoepp. Trapper is a singer-songwriter from Wisconsin with a knack for great storytelling. He has this gift to take his stories, some fact, some fiction, and pair them with the perfect instrumentals in order to create a great song. This past April, Trapper released his newest studio album, entitled “Rangers and Valentines” and it has my vote for album of the year. On this episode of “Heard Here,” I chat with Trapper about what got him into music, how he goes about crafting his songs, and how he got Tom from Office Space to star in his latest music video.
The Voice & Beermansky are joined once again at Drunken Lullabies Studios by their buddy Brutal Eric from Brutal Truth Brewing. Beers from Pipeworks, Destihl, & Brutal truth are featured. Ladies, this week’s edition of Somebody Likes It is brought to you by Mother’s Best cornmeal and flour, with just a dose of mid-twentieth century sexism. I speak, of course, of Hank Williams’ I Saw The Light, a delightful compilation of down-from-the holler hucksterism and genius-level early country music. If you like your biscuits light and fluffy and your country music both heart and ground-breaking, then get on out of the kitchen and join us for a little Hank Williams. In the spirit of the proceedings, I showed up a little tipsy, but then, so did Hank. Also, Shane gave us the gift of Canada’s answer to The Village People, The Skatt Brothers’ Life at the Outpost, which one should experience at least once before one dies, while Kevin enlightened us as to up-and-comer Trapper Schoepp, burgeoning young Milwaukee talent. Next week: Joisey indie rock band The Wrens, with The Meadowlands, where I hear Jimmy Hoffa is buried. Questions or comments? Hit us up at messagesomebody@gmail.com
