Series of fantasy novels and short stories by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski
POPULARITY
Send us a textThe murky depths of adaptation choices are on full display as we dive into Netflix's animated Witcher film, Sirens of the Deep. Based on "A Little Sacrifice," a beloved short story from Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher saga, this underwater adventure takes Geralt of Rivia and his bard companion Jaskier into conflict between humans and merfolk. Our exploration reveals a fascinating divide in perspective between those familiar with the source material and newcomers experiencing the story for the first time. While the animation quality stands as a universal high point – with fluid combat scenes and dynamic underwater sequences that couldn't be achieved in live action – the narrative changes prove more contentious. The film's unexpected similarities to Disney's The Little Mermaid, including the introduction of a sea witch character and significant alterations to the merfolk appearance, raise questions about the necessity of these creative decisions. We dissect how the film reverses a crucial character choice at the climax, fundamentally changing the thematic weight behind the original story's title. The streamlining of Essi Daven's poignant storyline represents another significant departure that longtime fans may find particularly disappointing. Yet for viewers without prior attachment to the books, these changes may go unnoticed while the core adventure remains entertaining.Through our varied entry points into The Witcher franchise – whether through games, books, or the Netflix series – we offer multiple perspectives on how adaptation choices impact audience experience. Is faithful adaptation necessary for success, or should creative liberties be embraced? Join our discussion and decide for yourself whether Sirens of the Deep represents a worthy addition to The Witcher universe or a missed opportunity to bring one of its finest stories to life.Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@projectgeekologyGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbATwitch (Anthony):https://www.twitch.tv/odysseywowSupport the show

The Witcher has returned to Netflix for a third series, but in two parts: one already up (from June 29) and the second still to come (July 27). What's more, this is the final season with Henry Cavill as Geralt Of Rivia, the White Wolf himself, as Liam Hemsworth is on his way for the next installment. Not going anywhere, however, are the three lovely people on Screen Time this week, namely Freya Allen, Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra, who enjoy a thoroughly anarchic chat with Ali about all sorts of fantastical nonsense, just the way you like it.

This week we spend a significant amount of time discussing mobile game Marvel Snap, impulse haircuts, and just how long it takes to get treated in children's A&E. Then, we realised we are a film and TV podcast and quickly pivot to discussing BBC's Am I being Unreasonable, Amazon's The Peripheral, Weird: The Al Yankovich Story and finally The Devil's Hour a show that not enough people are watching! In Reel News if you were left wanting more from Netflix controversial yet much watched drama Dahmer, you're in luck as another 2 seasons appear to be on their way. Elsewhere we discuss the sad passing of some people's only true Batman Kevin Conroy. We also react to Henry Cavil's return as Superman as he turns his back on The Witcher Series. For our main review, one of us is qualified to review it because they stayed awake for its entire runtime, the other is just wasting everybody's time. It's time to dig into the horror hit Barbarian.

Early in my career, I was both an avid reader and a customer of Brian’s. Although Brian has been a successful entrepreneur—earning a case study mention in the 4-Hour Workweek, as an example—I’m more impressed by Brian’s ability to “step off the line,” as Jocko Willink would say, to strategically re-orient himself. During our conversation, we discuss two points where Brian strategically pivots in order to achieve his true long-term objectives. We also cover Brian’s experience with angel investing, his biggest business inflection points, and how he structures his life to accentuate his strong suits. In the first episode of the show in 2020, Ali and Yasmine discuss the recent reports of the plans to reboot “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic”; the highly regarded and much-loved game by fans of the Star Wars series. Strong rumors about a secret conference to be held by Sony in New York on 29th February to reveal the PS5 after revealing the platform’s logo recently and releasing some technical specifications. A survey at the GDC conference concludes a strong preference for game developers to develop games for the PC platform by a huge gap from the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The Witcher series gets its own anime movie under the name “Nightmare of the Wolf” produced by Netflix after the success of the TV show recently; in addition to a quick weekly news round.

The Witcher franchise is still driving revenue at Polish company CD Projekt, which is busy preparing for the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 next year. According to the company's fiscal report for the six months ended June 30, 2019, sales revenue across the entire CD Projekt Group rose by 27 percent year-on-year to 214.4 million PLN ($54 million), while net profits dipped by 1 percent to 51.7 million PLN ($13 million). The bulk of that revenue came from the firm's game development division CD Projekt Red, which contributed 138.7 million PLN ($34.9 million) in sales revenue. The company's DRM-free online storefront, GOG.com, brought in the remaining 81.1 million PLN ($20.4 million) -- with both divisions witnessing an upswing in revenue year-on-year. Commenting on the report, CD Projekt vice president Piotr Nielubowicz explained The Witcher 3 was the main driver of sales revenue, and said the acclaimed RPG actually sold more copies during the first half of 2019 than it did in 2018. He also revealed the group spent has 60 million PLN ($15.1 million) on the development on new games and technologies over the past six months, resulting in a cumulative balance of expenditures on development projects of 292 million PLN ($73.6 million). #gaminglife #like #apexlegends #gamingmemes #anime #nintendoswitch #fortnitememes #pcgamer #retrogaming #gameplay #battleroyale #pro #destiny #art #bhfyp #blackops #fortniteclips #callofduty #twitchstreamer #geek #youtuber #lol #rdr #gamingcommunity #minecraft #overwatch #sony #fun #instagram #online --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pixel-sultan/support

This week, Original Content's original co-host Darrell Etherington re-joins us to review "Insatiable," the infamous new Netflix comedy that's been renewed for a second season (though that happened after we recorded the episode). We also discuss Henry Cavill's new role as the lead in an adaptation of "The Witcher." On this episode of Game Talk Radio I talk about the saddest Easter egg of all time in regards to a wedding proposal in Spider-man, we talk about a life long Nintendo fan (now a game dev) finally getting to visit Nintendo, and lastly we talk about the Witcher Netflix series recent casting call looking for a "BAME" actress to play Ciri.
The Pancake Parlay podcast, where we talk about movies, tv, video games, comics every week! Weather you are a Geeks and Gamers, or film fanatics we go more indepth on what we talk about. This week we talk about Netflix tv show found its Geralt, some Disenchantment, Anime reviews (Golden Boy & Black Clover) as well as Sharp Objects & Big Little Lies
The panel is excited for Spider-Man PS4 releasing this week and discuss it's critical reception. The game’s currently sitting at an 87 on Metacritic. It’s review scores ranged from the mid-80’s all the way to the high 90’s for many outlets. At its worst it’s being touted as the best Spider-Man game ever, and at its best many outlets feel it’s a real contender for Game of the Year 2018. The big topic this week is that Henry Cavill has been cast as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s upcoming Witcher series. Alongside fans, Hollywood at large was surprised by this move by Cavill. He’s currently Superman and is coming off a great performance in Mission Impossible 6: Fallout. Many of these people feel that he’s trading in big roles he’s potentially opened up for himself. Cavill is a noted giant nerd and gamer and was reported as almost missing his casting call from Zack Snyder letting him know he landed the role of Superman. During the MI6 press tour Cavill expressed his love for the Witcher series and stated playing Geralt would be a dream role for him. Shoutout to BossLogic for making fanart of Cavill as Geralt soon after the series was announced.
