The newest release out of Heaven Hill is the Grain to Glass Series with their 3 different bottles, the bourbon, wheated bourbon, and rye. We review the bourbon this episode. Coming in with a hefty price tag of just over $100, it is a pricey whiskey but we have found that some pricey whiskeys are worth it but others just aren't. This past year, I set a crazy goal to read over 50 books (while raising 3 kids, moving across the country, and running a business). By the end of 2023, I had read 62 books and totally fell in love with reading again! In today's episode, I'm sharing 10 of my favorite books from the year as well as some tips that helped me reach my goal and create a habit of reading more.I truly couldn't have hit this goal without my Kindle Paperwhite! It made reading SO incredibly easy and was easily my favorite purchase of the year. On this episode of LTAS, Halle is joined by guest host and fellow bookstagrammer Lex @thewellreadlex to discuss Sarah J Maas's Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses. *Spoiler Warning: This is a discussion episode where we talk about the two series as a whole. If you have not read Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses, please be aware.* The ladies dive into which series they loved more, what their preferred reading order is, and take on fandom hot takes. Is Chaol redeemable? Should Elide and Manon have ended up together? Is Tower of Dawn worth the read (the answer is yes)? Did Rowan go too far in his training of Aelin? Hmm... you'll have to listen to find out! Lex and Halle also compare Rowan and Aelin's relationship to Cassian and Nesta's, discuss THAT beach scene, and question why their husbands have never shaken the mountains by roaring "where is my wife" at the top of their lungs.

Today we'll be talking about our voice. What does it mean to find your voice? How do I find my voice as a parent? If you were to use your voice authentically, respectfully, and effectively to communicate your feelings, what would it sound like? How can I teach my children to find their voice? And in communicating with our kids, understanding what we want to say and why we feel compelled to say it is going to make a huge impact on how we say things. We'll kick off our show with The Raise a Glass Series, get on to our questions to explore, and end with A Short Story Before We Go. MFA is the sometimes-musical, dramedy, in 3 acts, 1 intermission, the length of a sitcom designed to give mama's (and any caregiver) a break in the day to breathe and reset along with a much needed audio hug. What sparks your curiosity? How can you help a person feel seen, heard, and understood? What does it mean to observe? What is the importance of observation? If we had all the time in the world to observe what our children were showing us they needed, what would we learn from them?Today we'll dive into the art of observing our children and ourselves to learn what we all really want and need. Dr. Maria Montessori wrote and spoke extensively on the necessity for the adult caregiver and/or parent to be an observer. Preparing the adult, is one of her pillars of the method. Kind of like Stanislavski's book An Actor Prepares. There is a lot of preparation an actor has to do on themselves before they can step on a stage and begin saying their lines. Intense acting training is…probably the equivalent of being a lab rat and a toddler all over again, at the same time. We'll kick off our show with The Raise a Glass Series, get on to our questions to explore, and end with A Short Story Before We Go. “What's in a name?” Well, so much. Today we'll be looking at the name of this show, the inspiration behind the podcast, why frankly my dear you should give a damn, and what to expect the rest of the season. These lessons from the theatre for raising ourselves and our kids is an inspiration and reminder to myself, and hopefully to you too, to remember the power you already have to be the parent of your dreams to the child of your dreams. We'll kick off our show with The Raise a Glass Series, get on to our questions to explore, and end with A Short Story Before We Go. Today we'll start diving into our history. As an actor, part of the work of creating a role is to understand the history of the character (their backstory) and how it impacts the life they're living and the moments they're experiencing in the story being told. Their history dictates how they show up in the world of the play. Our history dictates how we show up in our world, in the role of parent. We'll explore why understanding our history – the history of how we were raised and its impact on how we parent our children, is so important. Our apologies: This episode went way too long so we split it into 2 parts. This first part covers everything that happened in the 4th book of Throne of Glass, Queen of Shadows, with the non-witch and non-wyvern characters (and you guys know how much we love Abraxos). To make it up to you, we won't make you wait 2-weeks for the next episode. We'll be posting Part 2 next Wednesday, 10/14. In this episode, we cover Aelin, mopey Chaol and his bromantic devotion to poor Dorian; Nesryn, the hottest and baddest guard; the rescue of Aedion; and our favorite edible Fae prince, Rowan. P.S. For our December book club, we’re reading One Day in December by Josie Silver. This was one of our favorite books from last year, so we had to make it a book club pick! What would you do if you had a “love at first sight” moment, but the man of your dreams turns out to be your best friend’s new boyfriend? The book follows the three of them over the course of a decade through life’s ups & downs and heartbreaks as they each grow and change. Grace reveals she once had her own “bus boy”. Both Grace and Becca share opinions on audiobooks (nuances and lack thereof in some cases), meeting men (#morecrushes2020), modern dating, and definitely think this should be a Hallmark movie. Today we are joined by Lauren Chan, the founder and CEO of Henning, a newly launched luxury plus-size clothing brand. We’re completely in love with this brand and all its thoughtful details! We’re also obsessed with Lauren, TBH. She gives us a peek into her experiences as both a plus-size model and fashion editor for Glamour Magazine. We get her insight into how the plus-size modeling landscape has changed over the years and how modeling has affected her relationship with her body. Maybe most interesting, she pulls back the curtain on all the retouching (and padding!) that goes on behind the scenes. We’re shook! We also chat about her experience starting her own business (without any outside funding!), and the lessons she’s learned along the way. Products, places, and links mentioned: Check out Henning here.
