Bridget, Caitlin, and Hilda are finally back with part 1 of "Brimstone," book 2 in Callie Hart's Fae & Alchemy series. Although they're still not done reading, so far the consensus is that they like this book more than book 1. Also, Carrion Swift continues to be the best thing about this series. Bridget, Caitlin, and Hilda are back to wrap up "Quicksilver," book 1 in Callie Hart's Fae & Alchemy series. And we can't say this enough: They downplayed the steaminess of the first hook-up, which was insanely hot. And it gets hotter pretty quickly. Absolutely 4 out of 5 chili peppers. But what about the other plot elements? Well you'll have to listen to get the rest of their thoughts and final ratings. In their 10-year coup to spy on, discredit, impeach, and unseat the twice-elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, the Democrats have only made him stronger and more resilient. As Chris Matthews explains:By contrast, they've emerged from all of this as wild-eyed Doomsday preppers who have finally gone full Pizzagate, scraping the bottom of the barrel to chase a scandal that was never theirs to begin with, and one they never cared about until right now. Will there ever be any accountability for what they've done in their attempts to override American Democracy, disenfranchise half the country, and preserve their power? Will they ever confront the truth that Americans were so desperate to be rid of them, they were willing to re-elect the twice-impeached, four times indicted, convicted felon? Who would want them in charge? They have no plan, no optimistic vision, and no solutions. They have only one thing: an ongoing mass delusion that Trump is the ultimate evil. It is that delusion that has driven the hysteria that has led to the collapse of their empire. They just haven't figured it out yet. They lurch from one social media fantasy to another, all about Trump. And each time, it takes them deeper into their delusions as they lose all of their power. If sex is involved, whether it's an imaginary trip on the Lolita Express to Epstein Island or paid Russian prostitues defiling him on the bed the Obamas slept in, or his night with Stormy Daniels, his dressing room encounter with E. Jean Caroll, these insane, repressed, puritanical women who define the typical Democrat now can't seem to get enough.Give us more, their clicks and views say. We're bored. We need salacious details, no matter how ludicrous, contradictory, or implausible they may be. We need an injection of something other than the mind-numbing boredom of a monoculture that has become so sanitized and preordained that even Lifetime movies can no longer do the trick. Trump is their dirty little secret, the forbidden fruit, the dance with the Devil. The first version of Trump sold to us was that he was a raging racist because of the Obama birther story and other myths that helped create an existential crisis that required a “hearts and minds” effort to eradicate:That version led to violent attacks against Trump supporters in 2015.The next version was that he wasn't a playboy from the 1980s who could get any woman he wanted; no, he was a “rapist” thanks to the Access Hollywood tape and the multiple women who came forward to tell their stories, none of them believable. That led to the #MeToo movement, where due process and the presumption of innocence were disregarded, as once accused, forever guilty. You weren't accused of something; you were accused of being something. It was inside of you, spectral evidence, just like the witch trials in Salem. Every time someone was canceled in effigy of Trump, just as the hangings in Salem, it was a celebration for another battle won against an ultimate evil. One version of Trump made it all the way into the highest reaches of government. Imagine, a failed attempt to paint Trump as colluding with the Russians to win an election fell short, so they had to spin a yarn that the racist and rapist was also a Russian asset, compromised by kompromat.I believed it! I'd already bought the books on Putin in late 2016, how could it not be true? Rachel Maddow had told me night after night after night, laying it all out in painstaking detail. Here she is in June of 2016 dropping those breadcrumbs. Of course, I believed it because I believed her. I trusted her. I trusted them. They wouldn't lie to me, would they? The Clinton campaign even said so. They proved it with the changes made to the GOP platform to please Putin. That had to be true, right? No, it turns out. It wasn't true—none of it. Not only that, but it involved Barack Obama and his henchmen. If the lie that Trump was a Putin puppet resulted in Hillary's win, great. But what if she lost? Why not push out the lie anyway? Why not hobble Trump at the outset? Why not make him illegitimate just as he once suggested Obama's birth certificate was? Who wouldn't go along with it? We were all conditioned to follow the breadcrumbs and believe whatever they told us about Trump, so why wouldn't we believe this?It turned out to be a convenient pivot. It didn't have to be that Hillary Clinton was a high-risk candidate with more baggage than the Kardashians on a ski trip to Aspen. She was “likable enough,”up against a once-in-a-generation political talent like Trump. It didn't need to be the Clinton campaign's decision to focus on Georgia rather than Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. After all, the New York Times said she couldn't lose.Someone as powerful as Obama, a man we all treated like a god, could not lose to Donald Trump. He couldn't have stood on stage with Katy Perry and Bruce Springsteen and had an election go that badly. None of them could stand it, not in the FBI, not in the legacy media, not any of us.No, it had to be Putin. In reality, it was actually much less complicated. It was a one-in-a-million strategy laid out by Steve Bannon way back in 2012:They had to manufacture the Russiagate story because they couldn't face the ugly truth about what they had become, how they'd abandoned the rest of this country and insulated themselves in their castle in the sky. By the end, they were no different from other upended aristocracies when the people had had enough. This is not a complicated story if you are living in reality. The 2016 election recalled the infamous quote about the lavish ball held in honor of the 290th anniversary of the House of the Romanovs held in the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg. But it was a moment that would symbolize the empire's ultimate collapse. While Democrats now have to fend off their own Communist uprising, 2016 wasn't one. It was the populists, a genuine grassroots movement that reflected the voice of a country that was sick of an elite ruling class lecturing them about how to speak, how to live, and what to believe in. Sneering at them. Judging them. Shutting them out.And yet, that couldn't be the reason Trump won. It couldn't be the people who made that decision. The people never decide, at least not when it comes to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. They live by another quote, one from Citizen Kane:“People will think…””What I tell them to think.”The Russiagate lie was pushed through the feedback loop —a self-contained bubble that went from morning news, through the churn of social media, to legacy media headlines, up to cable news and late-night “comedy.”Those who questioned it, such as Matt Taibbi, Walter Kirn, and Aaron Mate, saw their careers evaporate, and their friends turned against them.Even after the entire thing was exposed and condemned in the Columbia Journalism Review, it hasn't made its way into the bubble. Everyone I know on the Left still believes it. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.sashastone.com/subscribe
The first 25 years of any century feel a bit foundational. Consider the first 25 years of the 1900s: Orville and Wilbur Wright's flight in Kitty Hawk, N.C., in 1903 ushered in the golden age of air travel. In 1917, the Bolsheviks stormed the Winter Palace, the seat of the czarist government in St. Petersburg, paving the way for Russia to enter the Soviet era. Just two years later, in 1919, the Treaty of Versailles redrew Europe, precipitating Adolf Hitler's rise to power and, ultimately, World War II.知识点:juncture n. /ˈdʒʌŋktʃə(r)/( formal ) a particular point or stage in an activity or a series of events特定时刻;关头• The battle had reached a crucial juncture.战⽃已到了关键时刻。• At this juncture , I would like to make an important announcement.

As Germany prepares to march into Poland, Anton Lewicki-Radziwill prepares to join his company in the Polish Army. He leaves behind his wife Elisabeth and their home, affectionately dubbed The Winter Palace. Anton is sure it will be a short campaign and he will join Elisabeth again in time for the harvest. Magazine/Podcast contributor Justin Jones returns to the pod to discuss The Iron Claw movie, which we saw the same day we recorded the pod (on Boxing/St Stephen's Day). What we liked and didn't like as much, what portrayals were the best and which are not nearly as bad as social media would have you believe. Short review is that we both liked it as a movie and as wrestling fans, but not the best film going (that's Godzilla Minus One by a mile). Plenty of spoiler talk and also some general wrestling history chat, including the idea of foreign menaces as world champions, attendances now vs then and other topics.

The latest episode of Girls Gone Hallmark is all about Hallmark Channel's newest original movie "3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost." It's a hauntingly good episode where Megan and Wendy talk about Hallmark's new era, the charming Madeleine Arthur, and a few 'Did You See That' moments. Don't be scared to give it a listen – it's a real "spirited" discussion! If you enjoy listening to Girls Gone Hallmark, we could definitely use your 5-star ratings and written reviews on your preferred podcast platform. Apple Podcast listeners: Use your phone's podcast app -> find the Girls Gone Hallmark show -> scroll all the way down to the review section -> tap 5 stars and tell listeners why Girls Gone Hallmark is your favorite Hallmark podcast. Hallmark News - October 2023 TMZ reported that the Queen of Christmas Lacey Chabert recently reunited with Mean Girls co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Seyfried to film a Pepsi ad. Me thinks this might be a Super Bowl ad, maybe? Brant Daughtery announced that he and his wife, Kimberly, are expecting a second baby in early 2024. Daughtery will next be seen in this year's hardest to pronounce title “Joyeux Noel” on October 29th. We're starting to see posters for the Countdown to Christmas movies emerge! And commercials on Hallmark Channel. What do you think of the "Christmas on Cherry Lane" poster? About "3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost" Stars Julie Gonzalo and Chris McNally. These two are a real life couple - though I'm not sure if they are married. Seems like they are super private. They did have a baby in June 2022. Gonzalo plays Anna. She has 48 acting credits including Cut, Color, Murder from 2022. We last reviewed her for fan-favorite movie Pumpkin Pie Wars. Chris McNally plays Elliott. Chris is known for his role as Lucas on When Call the Heart. He has 40 acting credits. Outside of Hallmark, he was seen in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and Firefly Lane - both from 2023. Madeleine Arthur plays ghost Ruby. She was a regular in the now canceled series "Blockbuster," she played Mae in "Devil in Ohio," and she played Chris in all three “To All the Boys I've Loved” movies. The story is by Gregg Rossen & Brian Sawyer. The teleplay included both Gregg Rossen, Brian Sawyer, and Joie Botkin. Gregg Rossen has written a TON of Hallmark movies including The Professional Bridesmaid, The Winter Palace, The Santa Stakeout and more. In fact, his IMDB reads like he's only written Hallmark movies. Brian Sawyer resume reads almost identical to Gregg Rossen. Joie Botkin is one of our favorite Hallmark writers. Her next Hallmark film is the Tyler Hynes movie "Never Been Chris'd." Filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada — more precisely in Burnaby, which is located about 15 to 20 minutes outside of Vancouver. The movie was filmed from June 12 to June 30, 2023. The rural estate used is known as Copper Stone mansion located in Langley. Other television shows like "Riverdale," "Bates Motel," and "Supernatural" have also used the property. The episode is about Kathleen Stock's appearance last week at the Oxford Union, with a rather large interlude in the middle of that discussion about the environmentalism movement and its particular class composition. With mention of Hegel, Lenin's internship at the Winter Palace, and Stock's status as premier golden retriever lesbian, we cover the ridiculousness of 'safe spaces' at Oxford and how self-advancement is the key purpose of the protests we saw last week. This episode was recorded in a park - so expect some breeze, planes, and birds - but we are soon investing in microphones! With windshields, other professional equipment, and plan to do the show in a properly set up studio environment as of next month.

Are you an acting coach but can't find a community to guide you? Are you an acting educator who wants to update your teaching skills and knowledge? In this week's episode, Actor/Painter/Teacher/Activist, Jennifer Wigmore would take us on a journey on how AACE was established to create a community amongst acting coaches and educators in Canada. AACE members share best practices and create standards for performers and workers in the entertainment industry. Together we can make acting training safer and more empowering for everyone! In this episode: How an unfortunate casting experience evolved into Jennifer's green light to quit acting. How pursuing another artistic passion lead Jen to discover all creative endeavours are drawn from the same well. Just because you're a good actor doesn't mean you're a good teacher; sometimes your acting experience does not correlate into good teaching skills. The conversations about what we need to know as acting coaches and educators have changed so much that everyone needs to update their knowledge about how to create respect based classrooms and how not to hurt people. A little about Jennifer: Jennifer is a multidisciplinary artist in acting, writing, and visual art, and has worked for over twenty years as a professional artist. She has performed in theatre's across Canada including The Arts Club, Citadel Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Center, Canadian Stage Company and the Stratford Festival. Jennifer has also appeared in numerous television series and films including; Dream Scenario, Christmas as the Drive In, The Winter Palace, Y: The Last Man, Malory Towers, Adult Adoption, Happy Place, Designated Survivor, Anne with an E, Impulse, Killjoys, Suits, Kart Racer, Little Men, and I Was a Sixth Grade Alien. She has just been cast as Chief April Anderson in the highly anticipated series Cross, based on James Pattersons novels, starring Aldis Hodge. She also narrated Todd Babiak's novel, The Spirits Up. She completed her BFA and MFA at OCAD University and continues to work as an acting coach and educator as well as a painting instructor. In addition to being a core member of the activist group Got Your Back, Jennifer is also a coordinator and steering committee member for AACE – The Association of Acting Coaches and Educators. Jennifer is also currently writing her first play called Measure Follow Jennifer! Countries look so cohesive on the map - sturdy borders, familiar shapes. Don't be misled. They didn't always look like this. This is the story of Russia, biggest contiguous country on the planet, told from the time when it was still very small. "In my producer's history textbook it says here, on page 18, that Russia as a political entity did not exist." With contributions across the series from Janet Hartley, author of a history of the Volga; Rhodric Braithwaite, former ambassador to Moscow; historian and sociologist, Mischa Gabowitsch; Anthony Beevor; Natalia Antelava; Kateryna Khinkulova; Dominic Lieven; Olesya Khromeychuk; and James Hill of the New York Times. “The best laid schemes of mice and men…” To tie-in to both Valentine's Day and the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie, the plan for the podcast was take a look at the wedding of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne from Avengers 60. But that story, and the previous issue, the first appearance of Yellowjacket, present a lot of stuff that is very totally out-of-place for 2023 sensibilities. So, we called an audible. Instead, we look at the long and convoluted history of Kang the Conqueror, which, as it turns out, doesn't even start with his first appearance in Avengers 8. So, let's talk about Kang, Rama-Tut, the Scarlet Centurion, Immortus, Ravonna, Nathaniel Richards, Doctor Doom, The Council of Cross-Time Kangs, The Time Variance Authority, Mobius M. Mobius and more. We also (for the second pod in a row) discuss Omniverse, the 1970s fanzine started by the late Mark Gruenwald and the article in issue two of that magazine devoted to all those characters, or is it just one character? This is a great companion piece to the recent episode of The Winter Palace where we talked to Mark Waid about continuity in comics.
Hello, and welcome to Beauty and the Biz where we talk about the business and marketing side of plastic surgery, and transforming patients and yourself. I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying, as well as consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients and more profits. Now, today's episode is called "Transforming Patients and Yourself — with Nicholas K. Howland, MD". When you've spent years training to become a surgeon, your fortitude and character were tested big time. But that's just the beginning. Then you had to have enough left over to go into practice and grow a sustainable business that takes good care of you and your family. That is no easy feat. This week's Beauty and the Biz Podcast guest is Dr. Nicholas Howland, a young board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon practicing in Draper, UT for the past 5 years. Dr. Howland looks at plastic surgery not as vanity, but as transformation and self-empowerment for his cosmetic patients and by extension, he learned about "transforming patients and yourself". He's walking his talk since Dr. Howland also went through his own transformation this past year by divorcing, being a single Dad, losing 60 pounds and working on his mental game to become his most authentic self. We also talked about: Dr. Howland growing up in Salt Lake City as a Mormon and the values he gleaned, even though he has since left the church; How he entered the crowded Utah marketplace and found a unique hybrid practice situation to join that works with his personality; and How he's an independent contractor with freedom to build his own brand, while also growing equity for his future and not having to worry about the day-to-day HR and office issues. He really does have a nice set up! Visit Dr. Howland's Website P.S. Can you please take a minute to review Beauty and the Biz? I would appreciate it.
Hello people of the When It Was Cool Network. You may know me as the host of The Plot Podcast here on the network, but I've been publishing Odessa Steps Magazine since 2000 and doing the Winter Palace Podcast since 2005. Since our new episode fits nicely into Hallowe'en Month, I asked Karl if he'd like to post it here, since it fits what's going on in October and it would be a good taster for people to check out our other podcast. He said "sure" so here is a portion of that episode. I'm joined by AP reporter Ashraf Khalil to talk about the Sandman TV show. We both read Sandman in college when it was coming out in the early 1990s, so we'll talk about that, its early connection to the DC Universe, the creation of Vertigo and the walling off of the DCU, our favorite issues, the comic finally coming to the screen, casting choices, the use of animation, future seasons and more.
John Elverson This is the self-portrait of one man's journey through life, schooled at two prestigious boarding schools in St Petersburg. He was chosen as one of two chamber pages to Princess Alix at her wedding to Tsar Nicholas II. Commissioned into the elite Egersky Life Guards Regiment, he paints a vivid picture of regimental life: the officers' mess on Ruzovskaya Street, guard duty at the Winter Palace and Anichkov Palace, the Peter and Paul Fortress and at the Tsar's coronation in Moscow, Military manoeuvres at Krasnoe Selo, and life in fashionable St Petersburg. In 1901 he attended the General Staff Academy, graduating in 1904 with the General Leontiev Prize for his thesis on strategy. The scene changes to the Far East where, as a junior staff officer, Boris took part in the war against Japan. After Russia's defeat, he describes his provincial posting to a divisional HQ in Kiev before being invited to teach tactics at St Petersburg's General Staff Academy. After obtaining his professoriate, Boris' destiny is irrevocably changed with the start of the First World War. He describes his career against the backdrop of Russia's fortunes, from the successful Galician campaign through to the disastrous retreat and eventual stalemate after the Kerensky Offensive and the Bolshevik takeover.

Today's show is unique and I cannot adequately describe the experience you are about to have in these show notes. Let me give you a taste. Neal Bledsoe, of Hallmark and GAC fame graced us with one of the most unusual and entertaining episodes ever. The entire time, he was at the gym working out (or maybe trying to avoid working out?). We chatted about his origins, his outlook on life, and of course, his upcoming big for the U.S. presidency. My virtual audience had the most engaging questions, and Neal answered every one of them in his indomitable style. This episode is family-friendly (except for maybe the reference to boxers/briefs, but we keep that PG). Because Neal came on early and interacted with the fans, I have included 10 minutes of bonus, behind-the-scenes footage for you to enjoy, if you dare to watch it. You can find that at the end of the episode. There is no doubt that "Winter Palace" has put this artist on the map in the hearts of rom-com lovers everywhere. Please enjoy. And by the way, there will be a bonus episode with Neal coming very soon as well, so keep your eyes peeled! I also apologize for any loud noises associated with the gym. France in 1755 is a country of extremes. The streets of Paris are filled with the poor and downtrodden, whereas just a few miles away lies the Palace of Versailles, with its renowned Hall of Mirrors where courtiers under the eye of Louis XV while away the hours amid endless extravagance. Once known as Louis the Well-Loved, the king has steadily lost ground with his people, and even his long-term relationship with Madame de Pompadour has entered a new phase. To retain her power and appeal to the king's changing appetites, Madame enlists the help of Dominic-Guillaume Lebel, Louis's valet de chambre. He sets up a school in Deer Park (le Parc des Cerfs), near the palace, where carefully selected thirteen- and fourteen-year-old girls from poor families can master basic literacy, painting, music, dance, embroidery, manners, and court protocol. Those who succeed in pleasing the king leave with a dowry and an income for life. Even those who fail receive some kind of financial settlement. Véronique Roux, a printer's daughter fallen on hard times, enters the school and does well—until a chance remark leads to her hasty dismissal. Years later, a little girl named Marie-Louise—who we know from the book jacket is Véronique's daughter, sired by the king and wrenched from her mother at birth—is summoned to Versailles and turned over to two of Madame de Pompadour's servants for her education. Marie-Louise wants nothing more than to find the parents who abandoned her, without knowing who they are, and through her story we see the connections of Louis XV's failures as a ruler and how they lead to the French Revolution in 1789. In The School of Mirrors (William Morrow, 2022), Eva Stachniak takes the element of the real-life school at Deer Park and builds it, through the fictional characters of Véronique and Marie-Louise, into a powerful indictment of both a monarchy in decline and the radicals who sought to overthrow it at all costs, even when their initial idealism caused them to turn against one another. Eva Stachniak is the author of two novels about Catherine the Great, The Winter Palace and Empress of the Night, and four other works. C. P. Lesley is the author of two historical fiction series set during the childhood of Ivan the Terrible and three other novels. Her latest novel, Song of the Sinner, appeared in January 2022. March 7, 2022 - Best-selling author Eva Stachniak joins us to discuss her latest novel, The School of Mirrors. "During the reign of Louis XV, impoverished but lovely teenage girls from all over France are sent to a discreet villa in the town of Versailles. Overseen by the King's favorite mistress, Madame de Pompadour, they will be trained as potential courtesans for the King. ... The students at this 'School of Mirrors' rarely ask questions, and when Louis tires of them, they are married off to minor aristocrats or allowed to retire to one of the more luxurious nunneries." It's a rich and enjoyable story, focusing not just on the ribald details, but on the relationship between a mother and her daughter, who succeeds despite the many obstacles to women at the time, but longs to know the truth about her father's identity. Eva Stachniak was born in Wrocław, Poland, moved to Canada in 1981, and has worked for Radio Canada International and Sheridan College, where she taught English and Humanities. She is the bestselling author of The Winter Palace, Empress of the Night, Necessary Lies, and Garden of Venus, in addition to The Chosen Maiden. You can find our interview on The Chosen Maiden in our archives. I was also honored that Eva asked me to MC an event and Q&A at the Kosciuszko Center in Manhattan some years back. You should absolutely check them out if you're interested in preserving the history of this dual American and Polish hero.
