“The dread of going into the night alone with a baby is very normal because it's not how we were designed. In many traditional societies, and even societies today, like Indigenous communities, babies would have multiple adult carers - sometimes 8-14 - every single day. Doing this job of raising a baby at home alone, with not a lot of friendship or professional support, informational support or support with basic chores like cooking and cleaning, is exhausting. I hope this understanding can help you be more forgiving and compassionate towards yourself, to lower your standards. It's hard, but understanding that it takes a village to raise a child - in a very literal sense - can help you in early postpartum and encourage you to reach out for support whether that's childcare, meal deliveries, help from family and friends or guidance from a health professional.” - Julia Jones in today's episode for our Postpartum Uncovered Mini Series brought to you by Boody. Explosive and heavy. That's how comedian and podcaster Em Rusciano describes her period. But the thing that annoys her the most about it is that she didn't feel like she had control of it until her mid-30s. Now, she tries to work with her cycle. She knows it isn't something you just “plug up and go” and rather she gives herself permission to do less when it is “explosive and heavy”.In this episode, the Boody ambassador makes the case for talking about our periods more, her experience of diagnosed with ADHD and autism in her 40s, and why she's unlearning the shame around both.CREDITS: This podcast was hosted and produced by WH editor-in-chief Lizza Gebilagin. For more from Women's Health Australia, find us on Instagram, visit our website or find the print and digital editions of the magazine. Welcome to Episode 27 of the Sustainable Ecommerce Podcast! Show notes: https://sustainable-ecom.com/ep27 A few weeks ago on the show I was talking about the importance of making your impact super tangible so that customers can see exactly what impact their purchase will have. At the time I was waxing lyrical about what a great job Boody was doing by using an app called Greenstory. Well, today I'm joined by one of the co-founders of Greenstory – Akhil Sivanandan. We chat about how Greenstory impact measurements are grounded in science, the importance of making impact understandable and relatable, and positive effect to store conversion brands experience when working with Greenstory. And of course we also talk about how you can follow in the footsteps of great brands like Boody and use Greenstory to get this level of impact transparency working for your own brand!
Does Marketing with purpose really work? And what does it really take to become a true brand for good? This week Michelle Lomas sits down with Elliot Midalia, the Co-Managing Director of Boody to discuss just this. Boody is a global powerhouse with sales in over 15 markets worldwide, and Australia's first B-Corp certified underwear brand. But it has hardly been an overnight success. There is a lot to tell in the Boody story. Why do they call themselves "sustainable changemakers"? Why choose bamboo as the material to make the products with? What made environmental icon Dr Jane Goodall partner with Boody? And does all the hard work to be a truly sustainable brand make a difference in sales. Elliot Midalia joins Michelle in this episode to answer all of that and more! Curious to know more about Boody and their various initiatives? “We want to get continuous living cover, or perennial agriculture, more animals on the land. We have to really get that happening with farmers as much as possible. So that when the change in policy comes, they're ready for it. They're receptive to it, they're ready to go, rather than fighting it.” -George Boody This week, George talks with our host, Ron Kroese, about taking care of the land through conservation, diversifying the landscape, and water quality. Additionally, the conversation touches on organic agriculture, crop insurance reform, rotational grazing, and more. George recently retired as Science and Special Projects Lead of the Land Stewardship Project, a nonprofit with headquarters in Minneapolis. Before 2016, he was the Executive Director for 23 years of the Land Stewardship Project. While serving as Executive Director, George led the Land Stewardship Project through significant expansion of its work into three main areas: policy and organizing, beginning farmer training and community based food systems. The organization gained national attention for its work on sustainable agriculture and family farm issues during George's tenure. Prior to the Land Stewardship Project, George was an early leader in the organic farming movement. He has a master's of science degree in horticulture and human nutrition and a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Minnesota. George has deep roots in rural Minnesota, where his mother grew up on a farm and his father was a doctor. The interview was conducted on Dec. 3, 2015. In this episode, host Bidemi Ologunde spoke with Bridgette Boody, a good friend and former colleague. She shared the interestingly long route she took to transition into cybersecurity from her days of dealing poker. She started by attending physical security talks at NolaCon, an infosec conference, in 2016, then she volunteered at several cybersecurity conferences such as BSides, The Diana Initiative, and others. Later on, she tried her hands on data science and compliance internships in the Tampa area. In 2019, she signed up for a 9-week tuition-free cybersecurity training called New Skills for a New Fight, which was organized by the University of South Florida and The Florida Center for Cybersecurity, also known as Cyber Florida. She also talked about how her soft skills have played a significant role in her current position in terms of effective and direct communication; how her feelings of self-doubt and impostor syndrome are actually very common, and what she has been doing about them since she started her current role, such as having helpful and supportive people around. She also shared the interaction between her education and experience, how she motivates herself using self-affirmations and calming music, what a typical workday looks like, including the fact that nothing is mundane, some advice for anyone trying to get into cybersecurity, and some of her favorite things to do outside of work. Please send questions, comments, and suggestions to bidemi@thebidpicture.com. Instagram Website BIO Meghan Boody is a multi-media artist and community leader who has long been fascinated by how human beings change and evolve. Whether in large scale photographs, immersive performance or interactive sculpture, she invites her audience to experience the dark night of the soul. Her work revolves around the mystery of this murky process, exploring the pivotal role that loss and struggle often play in personal growth. Boody’s hope is for her viewer to find their own golden nugget as they engage in her fantastical narratives. She has grown increasingly interested in the ability of art to heal, crafting experiences that invoke the transformative power of story. Meghan Boody is considered one of the first photographers to use digital photography effectively. She holds a BA from Georgetown University, has studied at Parsons Paris School of Art & Design and apprenticed with photographer Hans Namuth. Her work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University and The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). For the past 10 years, Boody has co-lead Gang of Girls, a think tank for women who want to change their lives.
My guests this week are Shaun Greenblo and Elliot Midalia from Boody, a sustainable clothing brand that creates everyday essentials from eco-friendly organic bamboo. Shaun and Elliot have been best friends since they were kids and their dads started the business together in 2012, when they saw an opportunity to sell an unconventional product for the health-conscious and environmentally minded customer. Shaun and Elliot came into the business with their growth mindset and love of technology and Boody is now a family business run by two fathers and two sons, sold in 1000 retailers in Australia, online and in 17 countries globally. I ask Shaun and Elliot about how their hunger to change the world for the better inspired them to create a sustainable product, and how Boody uses fabrics and craft to bypass trends and fast-fashion. Learn about exactly why you need to change your undies… change to bamboo undies, I mean! I’m talking about why we should all be wearing bamboo undies (as well as how often we should be replacing them.) My guest is Shaun Greenblo, the CEO of Boody Eco Wear, an Australian, family-owned brand which makes the softest and comfiest bamboo underwear and clothing you’ll ever wear. An expert on all things eco clothing, Shaun dispels myths and misconceptions about bamboo, telling us why we should choose bamboo over cotton and all the ways we can make sure it’s sustainable and eco-friendly. Shaun also talks us through the importance of producing only the bare essentials, rather than making a tonne of clothes that will eventually end up in a landfill somewhere. He reminds us why we should choose clothes which are not only designed to last a long time but are also manufactured with ethics in mind. There is a lot of controversy surrounding bamboo and its sustainability, so let Shaun help clear up some of the misinformation as well as provide insights into what makes bamboo such an easy choice when it comes to buying a fresh pair of undies. Key takeaways: Boody’s bamboo fabric is environmentally sustainable and ethically made Boody bamboo clothing is slow fashion, rather than fast fashion. A pair of bamboo undies can last years and can be disposed of thoughtfully Bamboo is both a cooling and warming fabric – it is breathable but also insulating. Boody has received a wide range of official certifications surrounding manufacturing, production and safety.
