James Corbett, Tom Batterbury and Phil Thomson, the founders of crime prevention and detection software Auror, have been named winners of the EY Entrepreneur of The Year award for 2022. The trio were chosen from a field of five category winners and will represent New Zealand at the World Entrepreneur of the Year awards in June next year against winners from more than fifty other countries. Vaughan Fergusson, head judge for the category, said Auror has the potential to be a massive Kiwi global success story. “Entrants are typically strong across two to three aspects of the judging criteria, but Auror's entry was strong across them all, and that's what made them stand out,” Fergusson said. “What impressed us was the work they are doing to make the world a better place, and because the tool has been in use across multiple countries for a number of years, they had some really amazing stats to demonstrate the impact they're making. “By changing the way we prevent crime, they are making people feel safer in the workplace and community, and that's a really good thing. What's exciting is that as Auror further establishes itself in bigger markets like the US.” Auror's software helps retailers around the world reduce losses, and police prevent crime. More than 80 per cent of retailers in New Zealand use the platform and Auror saves NZ Police 200,000 hours a year in investigations. The Auror founders, who had won the Tech and Emerging Industries category, beat Lumin's Max Ferguson (Young category), Dawn Aerospace's Stefan Powell (Product), Brooke Roberts, Leighton Roberts and Sonya Williams of Sharesies (Services) and Stuart Wilson of Modica (Master). Other awards on the night included the Social Impact Award which went to Jennifer Del Bel from soy candle company Downlights New Zealand, and Carrfields Limited, which took home the Family Business Award for Excellence award.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Brooke Roberts from British Columbia.Gin's new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! Gin wants to show you how to become clean(ish) where it counts: you'll learn how to eat (mostly) clean and live (mainly) clean as you unlock your body's natural ability to self-clean. Instead of aiming for perfection (which is impossible) or changing everything at once (which is hard, and never leads to lasting change), you'll cut through the confusion, lose the fear, and embrace the freedom that comes from becoming clean(ish). As you learn how to lower your toxic load through small changes, smart swaps, and simple solutions, you'll breathe a (clean) sigh of relief and embrace your own personal evolution toward becoming clean(ish). Go to https://www.ginstephens.com/cleanish.html for more information. The book will be released on 1/4/22, but you can preorder now through Amazon or your favorite online book retailer. Preordering is really important, as it gives the publisher an idea of how many books to print. In 2013, Brooke was diagnosed with a fatty acid oxidation disorder. Her creatine kinase levels were too high, which caused muscle break down. This meant Brooke could no longer enjoy the hiking, weightlifting, and dancing she loved. This also caused weight gain, and Brooke tried counting calories to fight back. She would restrict then binge, which led to even more weight gain. By the time she reached her highest weight in 2018, Brooke simply stopped caring. After suffering a miscarriage the same year, she finally gave up. Brooke reflects, "self care went out the window." Miraculously, Brooke was pregnant shortly thereafter, and the baby was premature. She spent six months with her son in the NICU.By the time she could bring him home, Brooke knew it was time to do something about her weight. She had heard about IF in passing, and did some research to learn more. She found Delay Don't Deny, joined the Facebook groups, listened to the podcasts, and began her IF journey in September of 2020. Brooke began with 16:8, and gradually worked up to 22:2 or 23:1. She has lost 72 pounds, and feels amazing. Her creatine kinase levels have remained in the healthy range, and she's able to exercise again! Brooke shares that she has a positive relationship with food, and feels "centered and grounded" in general. Brooke's advice: What you'll gain from IF is far more profound than the weight you'll lose. Commit to IF for at least 6 months. Be flexible, and know that IF is ever-changing.BIG NEWS! We have made some major changes in the Delay, Don't Deny membership community, including moving to a whole new platform. Our old platform had some bugs and issues with functionality which kept us from connecting as easily as we hoped, so we have moved the entire community. In this episode, I interview Brooke Roberts, the Co-Founder, Co-CEO, and Director of Sharesies based in Wellington, New Zealand. Sharesies is an online investment platform believing that everyone deserves the opportunity to grow their wealth. It also gives access to invest in thousands of companies aiming to create the most financially empowered generation. Roberts, with her experience in finance and marketing, started an online platform of investment in 2016 together with five other co-founders. Initially, they barely find investors but later on customers slowly show up. In five years, they have over 350,000 investors and are working with a total of 150 members in the team. Their pleasant attitude towards challenging times allows them to continually succeed. Maintaining positivity as one of the values is highly remarkable. Roberts said, “I really think optimism is so important.” This Cast Covers: Providing equal opportunity to grow wealth regardless of how much money a person has. Building an online investing platform for accessibility. Helping people be better savers and have financial insights. Garnered 350,000 investors over the last five years. Creating the most financially empowered generation. Bringing a lot of innovations to investing unlocks a lot of areas leading to real purpose-driven marketing. Visualizing the purpose and seeing people who have invested and at the same time succeeding. The importance of effective communication & planning to deliver the vision of the business. Making sure that someone with $5 has the same investment opportunities as someone with $500,000. Their laser focus on building trust, keeping it real and providing the same access to markets for someone with $5 as someone with $5 million has seen Sharesies go from $0 to $1 billion in assets under management in 4 years. Listen in to find out how: Sharesies is building confident and motivated investors through education The team of 6 co-founders uses trust to makes it work every day Growing confidence is seeing a change in their customers investing strategies over time

Brooke Roberts and Sonya Williams are part of the team driving the success of online investment platform Sharesies. The company was started four years ago by the pair and their other four co-founders - including Brooke's husband Leighton, and it seeks to ensure someone with $5 has the same investment opportunities as someone with $500,000. Sharesies has had a good year; it now has 250,000 customers and nearly $1b invested. Brooke and Sonya buck the trend in the male-dominated financial services and tech sectors - something they were recently recognised for with their win in the Business Enterprise category of the Women of Influence awards.

If there's any upside to covid-19, it's that people have rediscovered the great outdoors! Kaitlyn Riley's got an update from the WI Department of Natural Resources on how people have social distanced at state parks! With every school district statewide operating a little differently this fall, Wisconsin's Beef Council has tried to adjust! Brooke Roberts, Director of Communication and Outreach for the WI Beef Council, says they've reworked their content to make sure it's available for any teacher, in any format! They're also flexing their in-class grant offering to try and reflect the challenges teachers are facing. Wisconsin Senator Howard Marklein is keeping an eye on what's happening with the state checkbook in light of covid-19. He's also making the point that there's a direct correlation between the balance of that checkbook and how much support Wisconsin agriculture, agribusiness, and rural communities can expect. You'll also hear how an accidental career in the study abroad space helped her launch not just 1 business but 2! Brooke and I talk about her process for planning events—whether their simple meet-ups or retreats in foreign countries. Plus, we talk about her non-negotiables and past mistakes. Brooke Roberts is a business strategist, travel junkie and former aspiring professional liar. She left a trailer in SouthEastern Kansas and never returned except for the time she had to oversee it's complete destruction by napalming. We talked to her for a hot minute. It was fun. Hot minute, get it. It's a napalm joke. Enjoy!!
This episode was inspired by some of the things we heard while at Xerocon San Diego in June 2019. A major topic of the conference was advisory, and while it has become increasing popular to talk about this opportunity, there aren’t many resources dedicated to putting a plan into action to take it on. So Brooke Roberts and James Tobin sat down to talk about what advisory means, six specific cash flow drivers accountants can monitor to kick-start their services, and some examples of what this looks like in an actual business-accountant relationship. Brooke Roberts joins us today to discuss the sharemarket - lowering barriers of entry to an historically restrictive market. Why should those with $50 not have the same opportunities as those with $500k. Brooke joins host Darcy Ungaro and the mysterious 'Pumpkin' as they ponder this question, as well as others Brooke Roberts is a co-founder and CEO of Sharesies. Sharesies aims to give someone with $5 the same investment opportunities as someone with $500,000. Sharesies removes the high investment buy-in and financial jargon that surrounds the investment industry. Recently celebrating a year since Sharesies launch, they now have over 21,000 customers who have invested over $22m. Digital knitwear designer,Diagnostic radiographer within the NHS,Material scientist producing biodegradable materials,Co-director of Brooke Roberts Innovation Agency (BRIA),FashionTech writer for the Huffington Post,KPMG's Shift 100 list for retail technology entrepreneurs in 2017,The Hospital Club 100 list of the most influential and innovative creatives in the UK, It’s hard to believe that this list of titles and achievements could belong to one person. However it can only belong to one person, and that’s Brooke Roberts-Islam. Cross-discipline, multiple job roles, the Muti-Hyphen Method (as Emma Gannon describes it), is something that most of us can relate to. Brooke flows quite naturally between extremely diverse roles, such as radiographer and knitwear designer. It’s this blend of skills that makes Brooke so unique and incredibly interesting to discuss the fashion landscape with. Finding that traditional fashion media didn’t quite get her projects, Brooke created a space for discussions around fashion, technology and cross-discipline innovation to take place. Pioneering FashionTech long before others caught up and wanted a piece of the action. Not only has Brooke created an outlet for her company’s projects, she has opened up the discussion encouraging new ways of thinking. Through her frustration she has created a way for others to be understood and flourish. The projects that Brooke conceived through the innovation agency - BRIA - she co-founded with her husband, Moin Roberts-Islam, are incredible on so many levels, see two diverse examples below. Slave/Master an amazing installation shown at the V&A during London Design Festival explored the "borders" around human/robot interaction, reversing the traditional “fear” portrayed in sci-fi films of robots oppressing and interfering with humans. BRIA and SABINNA collaborated to transform a fashion capsule collection of wardrobe “staples” into new 100% biodegradable materials for use in garment packaging and shop interiors. By developing innovative processes for transforming garments into new biodegradable materials, they successfully demonstrated that without compromising on design, it is possible for brands to create commercial fashion that is circular and that never needs to go into landfill, with the potential to avoid millions of tonnes of garment landfill waste every year. W The way Brooke approaches her work, with no barriers, through exploration to innovation is something we can all learn from. Sometimes we are searching so hard to find the right direction or solution to our business or design problems and coming to a dead end because we are expecting the solution to look a certain way. But by giving ourselves the space to be free, take time out to explore and remember what it’s like to free of preconceived ideas, perhaps with a fresh childlike naivety, we may well be blown away by what we are capable of. www.brinnovationagency.comwww.blackneondigital.com

She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation,” said Wendy Mericle, “Felicity has set her sights on Prometheus. This season we have said we're going to take her to a darker place, and you're seeing the genesis of the reason why, right here.” Link:http://tvline.com/2016/12/11/arrow-season-5-felicity-spoilers-billy-malone-death/ ARROW, SUPERGIRL, FLASH Go Retro In BATMAN '66 Style Animated Credits (Date: 12 Dec 2016) Fans have been pointing out similarities between Green Arrow and Batman since the 40s, when Ollie was parking his Arrowcar in his Arrowcave. Now, the Emerald Archer is following in the Dark Knight's footsteps one more time, and he's bringing the rest of CW's DC-Verse with him in this Arrow credit sequence, animated in the style of the Batman '66 TV credits by YouTube user Dave Jones. In trying to explain the story, series star Stephen Amell turned to a familiar superhero staple for audiences: Batman Begins. "Susan appears to be up to no good, but in reality, she's just following a very interesting story," Amell told reporters during a set visit back in November. "I mean, the mayor of the town where she's a reporter was clearly not on an island for five consecutive years -- which, by the way, I think it's about time we did that. I always think back to the first Nolan Batman, where Ra's al Ghul says to him 'The world is too small a place for someone like Bruce Wayne to disappear.' Even if [Oliver] wasn't as famous -- and he wasn't -- he did perish in a very famous incident in our story. I always thought when he was in Hong Kong that someone would stop him and be like, 'Hey, you look like Oliver Queen!' but it didn't happen." More than 1,800 participated — twice as many women as men — but the results proved there isn't such a great divide between the sexes after all, at least when it comes to what types of females we enjoy watching on screens. #15 is Felicity Smoak - Felicity was supposed to be a minor character, but her chemistry with Oliver Queen made her a fan favorite. By season two of The CW's adaptation of the DC comic, she was a regular player. "Felicity has developed over the course of the series," says Rickards. "She's from a regular world. She's relatable, honest and grounded. But she's not boring." During a new installment of The CW's Fan Feast, actor Carlos Valdes (Vibe) confirmed that Gypsy/Cindy Reynolds will be introduced at some point when the show returns in January. “There's going to be a new visitor to our world named Gypsy,” said Valdes. "DC Comics fans will be familiar with Gypsy. She is going to be coming in our world and Vibe will definitely get to learn some new skills as part of getting to know her. So I'm excited to see how that plays out.” Based on Valdes' comments, it's safe to assume that they'll be going with the New 52 incarnation of the character, who was a runaway from another dimension. The move came after the Oct. 21 appointment of the superhero to fight for gender equality sparked heavy criticism, with nearly 45,000 people signing an online petition asking U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reconsider selection of the character. "Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent 'warrior' woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character's current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions," the petition read. Dozens of U.N. employees protested at the U.N. headquarters in New York City on the day of the appointment when Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment, said the Wonder Woman campaign would feature various initiatives "over the course of the next year." The U.N. did not provide further details as to why the Wonder Woman campaign was ending this week but spokesman Jeffrey Brez said campaigns using fictional characters often lasted no longer than a few months.
