Experts are warning things are set to get 'very scary' for New Zealand's coffee and café industry. Global supply chain disruptions and worsening climate conditions have been driving up production costs - and one leading presence in the coffee world warns that these costs will be passed on to businesses. New reports show the average green coffee price had lifted from $3.76 a kilogram in 2020 to $10.18 a kilogram in 2024 and was at $13.97 so far in January. Richard Corney, the managing director of Flight Coffee, says consumers will need to be prepared to cover these costs. "We're looking at some pretty significant reductions in growth margins or operating profit for coffee roasters, and the fact of the matter is - they cannot afford to wear those costs and they will need to pass them on." A coffee company director argues consumers should be paying more for their morning fix. Hospitality venues in Wellington are weighing up raising prices, potentially cutting hours, or even shutting up shop as costs rise. Flight Coffee Managing Director Richard Corney believes the current climate is worse than Covid. He says if the price of a cup of coffee increased at the rate of operating costs - they should be charging eight dollars a cup. The Hangar on Dixon Street is having to raise its flat white price to six dollars and ten cents - saying it can't afford not to. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 269: Quick Chat - Consciously Creating a Meaningful Life with Cortney McDermottWelcome to the Love Your Story Podcast. I'm your host Lori Lee and you're here today for a Quick Chat. That's one great inspirational idea in 15 minutes or less. Today's show is about this thing Corney calls Dimensions of Design. In a nutshell. Today's quick chat is on manifesting. Stay tuned for our quickie discussion with Corney McDermott, Author of Give Yourself Permisson, as we explore the ideas behind manifesting. Do you know how to manifest? Are you really good at it? I'm trying to understand it better, so if you're with me, tune in.Cortney and I look at:What Cortney has noticed about people not knowing what they want. This is to help people ask the right questions about what they want.Model includes distraction, delusion, demand, and design.Focus on the things you know are important to you, but that you don't have to do right now. When you focus on those things it clears out all the things that don't matter.Ask yourself this question: What are you putting off that you know you need to do?Focus on the really important things, let the less important things go and lots of time gets freed up.Designing your life by prioritizing this dimension makes time expand. We mold our lives from the inside with the decisions we make about our time.We talk about manifesting and how our attention is key to what we manifest.Allowing our attention to be fragmented slows down what we manifest. How much attention are you giving to guiding your thoughts and surroundings toward that vision?Want to get in touch with Cortney?Contact Cortney or buy her book:www.cortney mcdermott.comemail: cort@cortinc.comBook: Give Yourself PermissionAmazon Link to purchase:https://www.amazon.com/Give-Yourself-Permission-Development-Improvement/dp/B0C9SNG7NZ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=O1BQ0ZKORWVG&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.8amufz-UuP5MoibMVqy9ytZAjysDYtrkrHH-n0pAurOWTAGFh4YdjC_sUVHwmq7ksKOgWsl2vK4J_Xyj5hT1-A.ASsOCz1Ig8IdvvM1x8vBiqKQUJPx8ieg2Nlsolw-ZYA&dib_tag=se&keywords=give+yourself+permission&qid=1704998197&sprefix=give+yourself+permission%2Caps%2C226&sr=8-1

Speaking and communication (and possessing the presentation skills to do both effectively), make up both the original and final frontiers of brand growth. In part 1 of a two-part series, Adriane + Steve reunite to discuss how they pulled the rug out from under their up-until-recent collab plans, in lieu of some unexpected, yet compelling detours: a series of live events that Adriane is planning, and Steve's upcoming TEDx talk! This episode covers how each approach public speaking and the essential ingredients needed to make an audience go from, "Cool story, bruh," to "Damnnnnn...tell me more!"Quick overview of what we cover:A pulse check on the course-creation and coaching industry as it stands now, and how potential clients can be uniquely accessed via public speakingHow Steve has blended his learning design and facilitator backgrounds into a deep understanding of using his speaker voice Why effective and impactful public speaking goes WAY beyond 'intro...body...conclusion' frameworksThe venues where it's better to feed off the audience and 'wing it' vs. the places where that strategy will run you straight into the groundHow to best utilize speaking coaches, voice exercises...and Dr. Suess to sharpen your presentation skillsThe one thing to be super clear on for everything else to fall into placeThe important distinctions between keynotes, "lunch-and-learns," and TEDx talksHow the mundane makes us human -- and why that's sometimes a more powerful reminder than life-changing anecdotesHow to sense your audience's 'enough point' (aka, the critical precipice where a lot of stories (and storytellers) go wrong)Why great presenters speak from the scars and not from the woundsCan't wait for part 2?? When it comes to the transference of knowledge to the learners in your programs and events, being a good facilitator is just as important (if not more so!) as being an expert in your field. The trick is, many experts feel like they're doing a great job at facilitation when, in fact, they're….not.Today we're reviewing the mistakes you don't even know you're making when you're ‘unconsciously competent' at your craft. Engagement is such an important part of whether or not your learners are achieving the outcomes you've promised them - a HUGE factor in their decision to stick with you for the long-game. Listen in as Steve Corney walks us through an elevated learner engagement strategy designed to increase participation in events like you've never seen before – the holy grail that every course designer is after. In episode 203 of The Just Checking In Podcast we checked in with firefighter Dean Corney. Dean is also the co-founder of Walk & Talk 999, which is a men's walking group in the in the UK for any man in the emergency services to walk and talk about their mental health, if they want to, and be met with empathy, trust and understanding. The group was setup in 2018 by four women and two men, including Dean, who realised there weren't any support groups for firefighters specifically to talk about their mental health. On 21st September 2021, the group did their first ever walk round a local park near their station and 11 brave men turned up. Since then, the group has grown exponentially, with 13 walking groups now setup across the UK. Because of its success, Dean operates the group full-time such is the level of expansion that's taken place. The groups have now expanded to include any man from an emergency services background who can attend and they have had letters of praise from HRH Prince William, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and had support from celebrities like Dr Alex George and Joe Wickes. In this episode we discuss his journey into firefighting, the stress and strain that the job puts on men like him as well as the purpose it gives him when he has to save lives and the camaraderie amongst his fellow firefighters. We also discuss how, contrary to popular belief how the lionisation of firefighters from well-meaning friends, family or members of the public can actually put more pressure on men like him when it comes to disclosing when they are struggling with their mental health. For Dean's mental health, 11 years ago he struggled with depression which developed into an eating disorder and he lost a huge amount of weight in a short period of time. We discuss the stigma he faced in the job and outside the job which prevented him from addressing it, seeking support and recovering, the progress he has made since then and the role he holds in helping other men like him. Listen - there's a lot of nonsense happening in the online marketing space right now. And you'd think with all that noise, there might be something about about developing marketing strategies that seek to actually understand clients and build trust - but....*crickets*Today we're back for Part 2 of our 'Make More Money + Sales with your Established Course or Coaching Program series with Steve Corney. We're getting into messaging that seeks to make your clients feel seen, heard, and understood and why that's such a HUGE game changer for elevating your business (and - ahem - making more sales). Quick overview of what we cover:The biggest reason you're getting shot down when pitching your programs and coursesThe 6 stages of product-solution-product awarenessWhy 'how-to' educational content is causing you to fall short of the sales finish line with problem-unaware people How Diagnostic Education blows 'pain point' marketing awayWhat to do about Super Fans who consume all your content and buy nothingHow to market for what people want and then design curriculum for what they need (while staying in a manipulation-free zone)Why marketing to help people feel heard, seen, and understood is the Holy Grail of high conversion ratesThe social proof strategy that's WAY more effective than future pacing/inspiration-baiting Why 'more' of what's NOT working doesn't make it work...moreCHECK OUT STEVE + ADRIANE'S PROJECT: Click here to get on the waitlist for our program launchFollow us: @servicedrivenscalingLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Episode 63, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel, Part 1Episode 64, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel, Part 2 Episode 67, The Critical Metrics Most Coaches and Course Creators Aren't Tracking for Long-Term SuccessEpisode 70, The Secret Weapons of Generating More Leads and Converting More Sales Episode 73, Trust Isn't Enough to Sell Courses or Group Coaching Programs: Extending Your Lifetime Customer Value Via Respect and ConsentEpisode 74, Delivering Outcomes With Mad Respect - How To Improve Your Curriculum and Course Design and Your Learner's ExperienceEpisode 76, Make More Money + Sales with your Established Course or Coaching, Part 1 RESOURCES: Click here to join Adriane's $7 Marketing Strategy MembershipClick here to get on the waitlist for Sustainable Growth LabClick here to work with Adriane and the Soulpreneur AgencyBook a call with Soulpreneur to grow your businessCONNECT W/ STEVE: Instagram: @steve_corneyLinkedIn: @thisisstevecorney

If you want to grow your revenue with an established course or group coaching program – it's super important to scale your client results. Part one of our series is all about shifting the focus from, ‘how can I make more money with less?' to asking the hard questions about what your program or curriculum really offers (read: whether or not it actually delivers on what you're promising). Because once you've landed on the ‘effective dose' for learner engagement, experience, and outcome delivery - not to mention, the actual transference of knowledge - you're off to the races!Quick overview of what we cover:The super secret squirrel equation Steve uses to scale (spoiler alert: it's more x+y / z = 'shut up and care about your clients' than, like, actual math)Why increasing a dismal client retention rate of 4% (the industry average!) to a respectable 30% will exponentially sky rocket your profitWhy the 'fixes' you're employing to keep clients are probably making your client retention problem even worseWhy Steve believes stating one's learning preference (eg - 'I'm a visual learner') - holds about as much relevance as stating, 'I'm a coconut' The worst thing you could possibly do when approaching course creationHow video might kill the (course creation) star - aka - the importance of respecting your learner's time by enabling 'quick wins'Why 'adding value" doesn't mean literally adding more when it comes to revamping an underperforming courseHow a marketer and an educator have vastly different answers to 'How can I improve my course?' Why you must fall out of love with your courses in order to improve themWhy reminder sequences are the unsung heroes of retention (and the amazing apps we recommend using to create them!)How to fill your clients' 'enough bucket' once you realize that it's SO much smaller than yoursWhy Vanilla Ice is the ultimate client retention expert we're all overlookingCHECK OUT STEVE + ADRIANE'S PROJECT: Click here to get on the waitlist for our program launchFollow us: @servicedrivenscalingLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Episode 63, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel with Steve Corney Part 1 Episode 64, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel Part 2 Episode 67, The Critical Metrics Most Coaches and Course Creators Aren't Tracking for Long-Term Success Episode 70, The Secret Weapons of Generating More Leads and Converting More Sales Episode 73, Trust Isn't Enough to Sell Courses or Group Coaching Programs: Extending Your Lifetime Customer Value Via Respect and Consent Episode 74, Delivering Outcomes With Mad Respect - How To Improve Your Curriculum and Course Design and Your Learner's ExperienceRESOURCES: Click here to join Adriane's $7 Marketing Strategy Membership

If you've been fed a bunch of lies about course creation that go something like this - 'Oh! It's easy! Spin up a group coaching program, charge $5k a person, and then just show up once a week from the Bahamas and drink mojitos!' - and you're wondering why it's not exactly going that way for YOU...Well.With love in our hearts, we say this: if your clients/students/learners aren't achieving the outcomes you've promised them, you're probably not caring enough about their experience with your curriculum. Quick overview of what we cover:Your audience is definitely paying attention to more of what you're doing (and not doing) than you thinkHumans are natural thrift seekers - you'll lose their respect if don't address incongruities between what you offer + what you deliverWhy "I'm looking for X amount of people this month" is total BS and everyone knows itWhy you'll never go wrong operating from this motto - deliver on outcomes promised, not to the FEW but to the MANYWhen your people aren't succeeding, is it better to tweak your curriculum or your promise? Why the lack of curriculum mapping is one of the fundamental flaws of the course creation industryWhy your offer is never going to sell (no matter how sexy your marketing is) if you can't get your promise of value rightWhat people are really paying you for as an expert may not always be what they want to hear + do Anticipating needs and obstacles in your curriculum is one of the best ways to nurture your learner's respect (and why taking action on their feedback allows you to keep it close to heart)The quickest way to figure out why your course/curriculum isn't working that costs you ZERO dollarsCHECK OUT STEVE + ADRIANE'S PROJECT: Click here to get on the waitlist for our program launchFollow us: @servicedrivenscalingLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Click here for Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Click here for Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Click here for Episode 63, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel with Steve Corney Part 1Click here for Episode 64, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel Part 2 Click here for Episode 67, The Critical Metrics Most Coaches and Course Creators Aren't Tracking for Long-Term SuccessClick here for Episode 70, The Secret Weapons of Generating More Leads and Converting More Sales Click here for Episode 73, Trust Isn't Enough to Sell Courses or Group Coaching Programs: Extending Your Lifetime Customer Value Via Respect and ConsentRESOURCES: Click here to join Adriane's Scalable Foundations MembershipClick here to get on the waitlist for Sustainable Growth LabClick here to work with Adriane and the Soulpreneur AgencyBook a call with Soulpreneur to grow your businessCONNECT W/ STEVE: Instagram: @steve_corneyLinkedIn: @thisisstevecorney

One minute you're chuggin' along, making sales, doing all right, and then – *record scratch* – it's not not going so well anymore. Maybe you've noticed plateauing or decreasing sales, or maybe you can't shake the feeling that how you're selling is not congruent with your ‘service above all else' values…and you know what? You're NOT alone. The market has changed. Here's where the ground is shifting: If you want to make a sale, you gotta earn your potential client's respect - and if you want to make repeat sales, you gotta keep it.In this episode, we get into why that's happening – and why it's good! – and what to do about it. Quick overview of what we cover:Why trust alone is not enough to keep people continually coming back to youThe mistake a lot of course creators + coaches make when designing their learning content (spoiler alert: quality and quantity don't necessarily need to both be present for you to have something good)Why true mastery of a subject lies in your ability to strip something down to its simplest form AND articulate it in a timely manner (+ why it's essential to your job as an expert)The importance of reducing the time that you sell at people, (AKA - the most uncomfortable thing that you will ever do in a sales process)Why the ‘expert fallacy' will send your potential clients spiraling long before you've ever had a chance to pitch themWhy marketing is like dating, and selling is like sex (or more importantly – why no one wants to be hit on by Nickelback)CHECK OUT STEVE + ADRIANE'S PROJECT: Click here to get on the waitlist for our program launchFollow us: @servicedrivenscalingLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Click here for Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Click here for Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Click here for Episode 63, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel with Steve Corney Part 1Click here for Episode 64, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel Part 2 Click here for Episode 67, The Critical Metrics Most Coaches and Course Creators Aren't Tracking for Long-Term SuccessClick here for Episode 70, The Secret Weapons of Generating More Leads and Converting More Sales Click here for Episode 74, Delivering Outcomes With Mad Respect - How To Improve Your Curriculum and Course Design and Your Learner's ExperienceRESOURCES: Click here to join Adriane's Scalable Foundations MembershipClick here to get on the waitlist for Sustainable Growth LabClick here to work with Adriane and the Soulpreneur AgencyBook a call with Soulpreneur to grow your businessCONNECT WITH STEVE: Follow Steve: @steve_corneyConnect on LinkedIn: @thisisstevecorney

Prehen House is a beautiful manor just outside the city of Derry where its current owner Colin hosts his guests in its 18th century splendour. If you are lucky enough to be invited and you plan on staying the night - beware... you may end up in the 'ghost room' on the first floor where the spirit of Half-hanged McNaghten still roams to this day. Visitors claim that in the middle of the night they can feel someone get into bed beside them, but when they turn around no-one is there. One way to get serious with your business is to get cozy with your metrics. The only problem is that metrics are based on data, and data has been known to inspire this response – “Data?! GROSS.” Instant turnoff…maybe…but also…the closest thing to your business' crystal ball. In this episode, Steve Corney joins me to break down the difference between external and internal metrics and how they each reveal different aspects of your business' performance. In the wrap up, we review key data points you can zero in on to make simple yet effective tweaks to your course curriculum or programs to radically improve completion rates. (Because – and we say this with love in our hearts – if nobody's finishing your stuff, what are you even charging for?)Quick overview of what we cover:What we're talking about when we say “Bums on Seats” metrics vs. “Keeping Bums on Seats For as Long as Possible” metricsThe Metrics Goggles you're probably wearing that make external metrics look good from afar (when they're really ‘far from good')The tell tale signs within your program that point to whether someone will have success with your methods/using your knowledgeWhy the ‘Industry Standard's' 3% completion rate for self-directed learning courses is laugh-(so we don't cry)-able How to detour around the “Cliff Moment” where people totally disappear from your curriculum/courseWhy automating triggered follow-ups for those who fall off is actually one of the best ways to stay personal…and recapture engagementThe ‘Advanced Sorcery' available to customize one curriculum to work for many (i.e. your novice —> advanced knowledge clients)Why it's sooo worth it to look beyond the WORK of making improvements…and see it for the OPPORTUNITY to do something cool for your clients that it really isCHECK OUT STEVE + ADRIANE'S JOINT PROJECT: Click here to get on the waitlist for our program launchFollow us on Instagram: @servicedrivenscalingLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Click here for Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Click here for Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Click here for Episode 63, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel with Steve Corney Part 1Click here for Episode 64, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel Part 2 Click here for Episode 70, The Secret Weapons of Generating More Leads and Converting More Sales Click here for Episode 73, Trust Isn't Enough to Sell Courses or Group Coaching Programs: Extending Your Lifetime Customer Value Via Respect and ConsentClick here for Episode 74, Delivering Outcomes With Mad Respect - How To Improve Your Curriculum and Course Design and Your Learner's ExperienceRESOURCES: Click here to join Adriane's Scalable Foundations MembershipClick here to get on the waitlist for Sustainable Growth LabClick here to work with Adriane and the Soulpreneur Agency

We're back for part two of our event funnel review episode, where we reviewed a less-than-stellar challenge. In this second part, we go deeper into aspects of a challenge or live sales event that work really well in terms of your community, user experience, curriculum, and the pitch itself.Where Part 1 dug into the shady tactics of she-who-shall-not-be-named-and-shamed, Part 2 is more information-driven. We'll discuss the inherent challenges behind challenges, dig deep into strategies that work, and those that may cause your participants overload. We're pulling back the curtain on the coaching industry, shedding light on the gross, if not unethical, side of live sales events. Steve Corney is back to dissect a live event funnel run we both went through. This episode is the first of two where we'll walk you through everything, from the registration process to the closing pitch, highlighting how deceptive tactics are ineffective and can leave customers feeling disrespected. We won't just walk through how abysmal this particularly funnel is (because, spoiler alert: IT IS), but also sharing our thoughts on the better, more effective, more *gasp* RESPECTFUL approach, replacing the tricks and traps with ethical sales strategies and impactful learner experiences. Quick overview of what we cover:Why we were left with a bad taste in our mouths after conducting an undercover operation to review the registration, pre-event, community, training, and sales process of a digital challenge (and how you can do it better)How a more sophisticated buyer requires a more more sophisticated sales process in order for it to be effectiveOne of the most disrespectful things you can do to your audience if they buy into a low-cost eventWhy lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous, shock-and-awe style marketing and sales tactics count on your never looking closely at what's insideWhere we land on the debate of "to value stack or not to value stack?"... and the potential legal issues if you use themThe pros and cons of using Facebook for an event vs non-social platforms Why it's important to keep participants engaged before your event and how to do it effectivelyRESOURCES: Click here to join the Solopreneur to Scaling CEO no cost 3-day training for service business owners making $50-250k/year USDClick here to join Sustainable Growth LabClick here to work with Adriane and the Soulpreneur AgencyLISTEN TO MORE EPISODES WITH STEVE:Click here for Episode 45, How Bro Marketers Have Destroyed Digital Learning Click here for Episode 55, Marketing With Integrity in a Post-Bropocalypse World Click here for Episode 64, The 5 Elements of a Successful Digital Sales Event Funnel Part 2 Click here for Episode 67, The Critical Metrics Most Coaches and Course Creators Aren't Tracking for Long-Term SuccessClick here for Episode 70, The Secret Weapons of Generating More Leads and Converting More Sales Click here for Episode 73, Trust Isn't Enough to Sell Courses or Group Coaching Programs: Extending Your Lifetime Customer Value Via Respect and ConsentClick here for Episode 74, Delivering Outcomes With Mad Respect - How To Improve Your Curriculum and Course Design and Your Learner's ExperienceCONNECT WITH STEVE: Follow Steve: @steve_corneyConnect on LinkedIn: @thisisstevecorney

If you've been taught to sell in a certain way (cough cough, ‘Bro Marketing') – no shame – but I'm here to tell you there's a better way. (Like, so, SO much better). This episode covers the icky soup of deceptive selling practices known as Bro Marketing, plus a pinch of Woo Marketing, that's been wafting through the online biz space. (A WooBro Biske, if you will.)Here's the thing – manipulation is out and integrity is in. Steve Corney joins me for a second *super*spicy chat about how we must change our (sometimes unconscious but always unconscionable) sales and marketing approach now that we are living in a ‘Know – Like – Distrust' state. Quick overview of what we cover:Why you need to understand deceptive sales practices, even if you think they don't apply to youThe exact point where you turn into a ‘piece of sh*t marketer'How Woo Marketers are able to convince you that both the source of, and the solution to your problems is YOU (and why you pay them for this nonsense)How to tell if you if your {insert BS Title Here} Coach is gaslighting youHow you doing the right thing actually sets you up to ‘get woo'd'What kind of marketing leads to this client response: “Huh… There isn't a catch.
