VIDEO VERSION: https://youtu.be/fMfnyEcnJis Introducing Hector: Hector's journey to becoming a renowned DJ started at the age of 16 when he first stepped behind the decks. Originally from Mexico, his ambition led him to seek opportunities beyond his hometown, eventually finding his way to the vibrant music scene in London. Working at the legendary Phonica record shop proved to be a pivotal moment, as he crossed paths with influential figures like Anja Schneider and Loco Dice, who later offered him positions on their esteemed imprints, mobilee and Desolat. Through his association with Desolat, Hector solidified his place as an exciting and dynamic player in the global music scene. His captivating performances while touring the world garnered a strong and devoted following, earning him respect from fans and industry peers alike. Alongside his DJ career, Hector's hunger for artistic evolution led him to produce his own music, which was quickly picked up by highly respected labels such as mobilee, Desolat, One Records, and Tsuba. With an unrelenting desire to conquer the world's biggest clubs and festivals, Hector has made a name for himself as a resident DJ at Marco Carola's Music On in Ibiza. He has also graced renowned festivals like Time Warp, DEMF, Kazantip, Awakenings, BPM, Hideout, and Sunwaves, while delivering unforgettable club sets at esteemed venues like Tokyo's Womb, Space Miami, Fabric London, and New York's Output. In 2015, Hector shifted his focus to supporting others by forming the Vatos Locos crew, an assembly of talented and underrated producers and DJs who emerged during BPM Festival in Mexico. The crew operates as a family, emphasizing a democratic and ego-free approach to creating unforgettable experiences. From WMC and Movement in Detroit to Sonar and Ibiza's Underground, the Vatos Locos crew has brought their unique vibe to audiences worldwide. Hector's commitment to nurturing emerging talents extends to every aspect of Vatos Locos, including their record label, parties, and tours. VL Recordings, launched in 2016, aims to spotlight lesser-known artists and Hector's closest friends. With releases from artists like Mahony, Seb Zito, David Gtronic, and the VL crew, the label continues to showcase exceptional music. Hector's dedication to the brand goes beyond his DJ career. He oversees the entire process, from merchandise design to event production, encouraging the entire Vatos Locos crew to contribute to decision-making. As Hector's empire expands across the globe, he remains focused on maintaining the highest standards of quality and promoting his Vatos Locos familia. With an unwavering passion and clear vision, this Mexican powerhouse shows no signs of slowing down, leaving an indelible mark on the world of DJing. In episode 8 of the GSGEDM Behind-The-Scenes podcast, the GSGEDM Team appreciates Detroit for its local community and its international reach as a hub for dance music. Movement Festival has been the foundation of techno tourism in Detroit, since its beginnings as the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001. It is also the foundation of the GSGEDM film - shooting began there in 2011 to tell The Story of Detroit Techno. Movement encourages the Memorial Day Weekend pilgrimage that techno fans all over the world take to Detroit to get a taste of its one-of-a-kind dance music scene. It is that time of year again, and the team is longing for the techno-induced, party-packed weekend that makes for a magical time in Detroit. In honor of this, please come along on a Movement “meditation”, reminiscing with stories and memories from members of the GSGEDM team (David Grandison & Reggie Dokes), as well as Belgium's DJ Red D, Detroit journalist Gary Graff, and Fusicology's Asya Shein.-Support the independent filmmaking process and get yourself some GSGEDM merch! http://gsgedm.com/shop-Stay updated with GSGEDM on Instagram and Facebook!https://www.instagram.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/https://www.facebook.com/GodSaidGiveEmDrumMachines/-Visit Hart Plaza and watch a DEMF recap video on MusicOrigins.orghttps://www.musicorigins.org/item/the-detroit-electronic-music-festival/-Learn more about topics covered in the film and Detroit culture in the Detroit Techno 101https://www.musicorigins.org/detroit-techno-101/ -Get connected with Detroit music journalist Gary Graff:https://twitter.com/GraffonMusic-Check out DJ Red D:https://www.facebook.com/djreddbelgiumwww.instagram.com/djreddbelgiumofficial-Learn more about Asya Shein:https://asyashein.com/bio/Check out Fusicology:https://www.fusicology.com/-Learn more about Movement:https://www.movement.us/https://twitch.tv/paxahau-Check out The Music Origins Project: https://www.musicorigins.org/technomecca/- Check out Reggie Doke's album i.heard.Love:https://reggiedokes.bandcamp.com/album/i-heard-love-Support Black Lives Matter Detroit:https://www.blmdetroit.com/-Support Detroit Will Breathe:https://detroitwillbreathe.info/-Support Black Lives Matter:https://blacklivesmatter.com/-Be sure to check out Output, to make all your music-making and sound designing dreams come true!https://output.com/

The game of Life. If only it came with instructions that made any sense. Sometimes you meet people so good at navigating the twists and turns their little plastic car must make that it leaves you speechless. This man was one of them. A literal walking miracle. He survived something that would have killed almost anyone else, and he did it with style. This was my last interview from Detroit, and is happened literally on the way to the airport with an anonymous man that made my heart swell to twice it's size and all my problems seem like a grain of sand being washed up against the shore. Wishing you all the luck in the world -  To me, you are a superhero. To me you are the best dad in the universe. So this ends our brief time in Detroit, next up were going back into the lions den of Ketamine and depression with Dr. Will Siu. Get excited! You can now get K at a compound pharmacy NEAR YOU! Introducing Sierra!  I was at Motor City Wine Bar, dancing with an umbrella that had a giant middle finger on it, basically alone to the literal sickest tunes. However, there was one other person on the floor, a women whose skin was the color of milk dropped into espresso. In a slick silk flight suit, dancing harder than me. We circled each other on the dance floor like lions circling their prey. It wasn't long before I introduced myself and informed her that I was going to have to escort her outside and talk to her about her life, and talk we did. I can't even begin to explain the whirlwind of dancing I was in when I met Simone. I casually was trying to explain and show to a bunch of women why I've always had a hard time twerking. These women thought this was hilarious. I just can't do it. One of these women was covered in star tattoo's, and had this huge gorgeous smile and a boatload of banter and I thought, yep this is a woman who probably needs to step into a dark ally way with me sit on a pile of hazardous construction materials and chat with me about her life. And chat we did! I learned a lot from Simone, and what's interesting is she helped me understand some things about how you can live with dual sets of beliefs running concurrently inside your mind without them crashing up into one another. It's something I've been thinking about a lot as the upcoming elections loom closer and I try to figure out how is it that so many people can be so warm and loving and kind and still harbor these icebergs beneath the surface that need to be thawed out. So how DO we help people melt these icicles...? Now that is the question. See you soon Simone. Detroit, the Motor City. Once one of the most prosperous destinations for the American Dream, now a city in full recovery from devastating economic hardship. Established as a fur trading outpost by the French in the 1700’s, Detroit became a thriving metropolis where immigrants from all over the world could come to pursue a life free of persecution. The birthplace of Motown, and Techno and the manufacturing epicenter for Ford, GM and Chrysler, this was always a city that was full of life, prosperity and innovation.  But this is a place that has faced bankruptcy, drug infestation, violence and crime so overpowering that a large portion of it’s inhabitants abandoned their homes in search of calmer waters leaving a city with a stale economy, depressed housing prices and little chances of upward mobility through employment. But that’s changing, and little by little, Detroit is rising up from the Ashes it was reduced too. Almost everyone I met were some of the most open, hard working, musical, fascinating hustlers you could ever imagine. I love it. I want nothing more than for it to be returned to it's former glory and be celebrated for the creative utopia it truly is.  So I went to Detroit over Memorial Day Weekend for DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) that was started in 2000 that has seen millions of people flock to it’s dance floors in search of the kind of music that makes your whole body release it’s anger and embrace it’s more natural loving state. In between dancing so hard I literally wore out the soles of my shoes, I pulled people off the decks and out of the dance floors to talk with me about who they were and what this city meant to them. How music has shaped them, and in some cases saved their lives. You’ll be hearing a little bit about the history of Techno, and House music, as well as hearing about what is happening in real time to rebuild this historic city. This is Piranha Head, a Composer, trained musician and producer who grew up with Moody Man (referred to as "Kenny" in this episode, another one of the D's best exports) I literally pulled him off the decks and brought him outside of Moody Mans BBQ on Sunday Night (cost 5 dollars at the door with a donation based bar!! CAN YOU BEAT THAT NO YOU CANNOT IT WAS THE BEST).  We'll be hearing more from this wondrous human in the future, I only could keep him off the decks for 20 minutes, but damn was he able to make good use of our time together.  I love you Detroit. Thank you for an incredible weekend that made me re fall in love with the dance floor.  Music for this episode Poem for a Lost One - Piranha Head   Lyrics By, Vocals - Diviniti Mastered By - MJR* FIND HIM! @pirahnahead on instagram  www. DUKY Facebook: Duky Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/duky Adis Hotic aka Duky was born in Bosanski Novi, Bosnia & Hercegovina on January 19, 1989. He has been very passionate about music his whole life. Growing up in the 90's, Duky loved listening to Hip-Hop. Hearing drums, rhythms, basslines, and deep lyrics by artists like Wu-Tang, Mos Def, Nas, Gangstarr, and Mobb Deep greatly influenced Duky to start working on his own music. At age 13 he started messing around with FL studio making hip-hop instrumentals. A few years later, electronic music was introduced to him in Detroit at DEMF. He immediately fell in love with it and started producing house instead of hip-hop. Duky quickly gained respect and support with his remix of "Morning Cigarette" by major players in the game such as tINI, Enzo Siragusa, Chris Lattner, Richie Hawtin, and Marco Carola. Each track Duky produces is a reflection of his emotions at that specific point in his life along with passion, joy, and love for music. His style consists of groovy/dubby basslines, hip-hop influenced drums, deep abstracts sounds, and a touch of swing. In August 2011, Duky launched his own vinyl/digital label Deep Tech Records, which has been releasing some of the finest underground music available on today's market. The label includes music by talented and prestigious artists like Miro Pajic, Randall M, Chad Andrew, Jun Akimoto, Ittetsu, Brett Jacobs, Butane, Someone Else, Loquace, Bodeler and many others. Now Duky works hard every day to maintain his busy schedule juggling around label work, gigs, and most importantly his own productions. K1971 PODCAST - DJ T-1000 aka Alan Oldham Alan Oldham has been called "Detroit Techno's Renaissance Man" (Musik, UK).A lifelong cartoonist and graphic designer, a young Oldham published his own comic book "Johnny Gambit" in 1987 to local notoriety. Hired that same year by his childhood friend Derrick May to illustrate several memorable pieces for the new Transmat label, this led to Oldham's first involvement in the fledgling techno scene. Besides his art and writing, 1987 also saw Oldham's radio debut on Detroit's WDET-FM with the long-running 'Fast Forward' program. Originally meant to be a free-form rock, jazz and fusion show, Oldham's passion for both local and international electronic music gradually took centerstage until it finally became the only radio program in Detroit to feature techno and house music exclusively. The early cassette, reel-to reel and four-track material of such (now) well-known international artists as Underground Resistance, Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, Octave One, Anthony Shakir, and Richie Hawtin made its on-air debut here, as well as being the first and only show to break international acts like Moby, Joey Beltram, 808 State, LFO, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, and others in Detroit. In 1988, Oldham graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Radio-TV-Film. In 1990, having finally produced his own EP at a friend's studio, Oldham sold the project to a small Dutch label whose fax number he found in the record bins of Recordtime. His pseudonym for the four-track project was Signal to Noise Ratio released by the small Dutch label, DJAX Records. After the release of the EP, label boss Saskia "Miss DJAX" Slegers hired Oldham to create the graphic identity of DJAX-UP-BEATS. Ten years on, DJAX dominates the Dutch techno scene and Oldham's trademark visual style still defines the label. In 1992, Jeff Mills left Underground Resistance to become a solo act. "Mad" Mike Banks, needing an immediate replacement DJ for a month-long Austrailian live tour, tapped Oldham for the job. Without rehearsals, Oldham took the leap of faith that changed his life. Jump start into infamy. Leaving his increasingly-thankless WDET airshift behind forever and adopting the onstage personal of DJ T-1000 (taken from the shape-shifting liquid metal cyborg in "T2"), Oldham began rocking decks for UR and never looked back, setting the stage for subsequent UR "assault DJs"Rolando and James Pennington. Upon returning from UR's triumphant Austrailian tour, Banks again tapped Oldham's many talents, this time asking him to create a label to be distributed by a new company that Banks was organizing, a distributorship that would within a few years come to dominate the Detroit landscape: Submerge. Oldham agreed and his second and most successful attempt at a label, (the first was the disasterous Technika records 1989) would be called Generator. It was also during this time that Oldham once again became prolific, artwise. A fully-painted "Danger Girl" comic strip in Muzik UK and the album cover for Astralwerks "Beyond The Third Wave" (ASW6170) compilation marked 1995, as well as his debut retrospective at Detroit's Cement Space Gallery and a new "Miss DJAX" comic. With his solo career in full swing, however, it was time for his music to follow suit. Oldham established the Pure Sonik label in 1996 with the double-barreled, double-vinyl statement of intent "Pure Sonik Manifesto" (PURE1). This move garnered his first cover story in Magic Feet (UK), and a music video that aired on MTV UK's "Party Zone". Three years later, the label continues to feature Oldham's production talents as DJ T-1000, the best moments of which can be found on the CD/2x12", "A Pure Sonik Evening" (PURE10) . In 1998, Oldham began an alliance with legendary German techno label, Tresor when their label manager vacationing in Detroit, was blown away be his demo tracks. Signing him on the spot, the first product of that transatlantic union was "Jetset Lovelife EP" (Tresor87) and his debut performance at the Tresor club in Berlin. In between a solid year's worth of DJ dates both in the US and abroad, the release of his first-ever mix CD "Live Sabotage" (BML/X-Sight 6386), and many personal changes at home, Oldham delivered his debut album "Progress" (Tresor128). It was released in Europe in October 1999 and a world tour quickly launched, capped by an epic, four-and-a-half hour set at the Tresor Club, broadcast live over the internet. "Progress" was bracketed by the dual release of "Codes And Structures Vol 1" (PURE11) and "Vol 2" (PURE12) on his own Pure Sonik label. As the new millenium began, Oldham produced a second mix CD "The Last DJ On Earth" (PURE14) , launched 2 websites (both for label and his art), participated in DEMF 2003, released of another album "Neutra" (PURE17CD), and a return to artwork. After over a decade in the music business, DJ T-1000's job of World Sonik Domination is never done. Oldham in 2006 started his first-ever, low-tempo/experimental, CD-only label, "xfive." and presented its first release, "The Art of Transformation" (X5001CD) inspired by his art gallery openings in France, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Germany. Another "Art of Transformation" CD released in January 2008. In 2009, Oldham released an all new Johnny Gambit comic with accompanying original soundtrack with 2nd installment and soundtrack finished in March 2013, awaiting release.2012 saw the rise of the moniker, Detroitrocketscience (first appeared on xfive), and debut of label of same name with the release of a series of 10" records in 2012/2013.

Welcome Reference to our 15th Cinematicpod! Reference consists of the Detroit-based artists Luke Hess & Brian Kage. The group was created for the expression of underground music and dance culture. Luke Hess is a name synonymous with a new wave of ‘Detroit techno’ producers, but his roots go deeper than that. His continued hard work as a musician and his talent as a DJ has allowed him to release music on some of the most respected labels and play some of the most prestigious clubs in the world. Brian Kage is the founder of the record label Beretta Music. Along with a countless number of successful releases, Brian’s experience as a producer, DJ, and label-head has helped shape and catapult the careers of some of today’s brightest and best artists in the dance music community. Like any pure artistic or avant-garde entity, they have no concern for following trends. Hess & Kage have come together to create music in it’s truest form; experimentation, soul, sweat, live instrumentation, and organic sounds all welded together to form deep and timeless music. The main concern of Reference is to stand diligently behind the foundation of underground culture and against commercialism that longs to destroy the freedom of our senses.

In junior high, he was known for carting around boxes of self-styled mix tapes and giving them to friends just to spread the house sound. After hunting down music of his interest in runned down warehouses, Bucky was quickly influenced by the rave scene in the 90 's In no time Bucky was a seasoned conductor of the Midwest rave scene and playing some of the most respected club events acorss the tri state area. In 2004, he took his role as a DJ one step further, landing gigs on the trans-Atlantic party circuits of Eastern Europe and beyond. The recent launch of this new label, Nightsweat Recordings, has kept this minimal mastermind busy in Chicago. The imprint will include some of the premiere producers on the minima/tech-housel scene. Both shared similar influences as Detroit Techno bridged the gap between their coasts. Both share over a decade of DJ experience crossing dance venues coast to coast. As solo production artists, they continue to push their growing sound, Ds and Cs music production however, is a mix of old school and nu school creating a unique but modern day sound. With obvious ties to Detroit, their sound digs into those influences and creates a new feel. Keep your eye on this young DJ/Producer as he propells Miami to the cutting edge of electronic music!!

The last song on the mix is a favorite of mine that I have been holding on to for the right moment. It's called "waschmachine". I will have another post in a few days, stay tuned and thanks for listening. For tracklist hit me up @ www.myspace.com/djjagdetroit Thanks, JAG

This is a unique blend of house/tech-house/electro-house. It captures my style of blending main stream house beats with a darker detroit street feel. Notice the use of dips and rises used in more mainstream house tracks blended with long deep base lines common in most tech-house. I hope you enjoy and please leave any comments or suggestions @ www.myspace.com/djjagdetroit . Until the next podcast, JAG
