In this episode, we'll crack the code on the all-new Digital SAT. We're joined by the amazing Dr. Shaan Patel, founder of Prep Expert, the company that's helped over 100,000 students conquer standardized tests and land in top colleges. Dr. Patel is also a Shark Tank success story with over 20 years of experience cracking the SAT code. Dr. Patel will break down the Digital SAT, college admissions in 2024, and your teen's scholarship options. Get ready to take notes! Key Takeaways ➡️ The new digital SAT is a significant change from the paper-based exam. Students need to get familiar with the new version. ➡️ Taking the SAT or ACT is still important, even at test-optional colleges, as it can increase acceptance rates and eligibility for scholarships. ➡️ There are over $7 billion in merit-based scholarships awarded annually, and many of them consider test scores in the selection process. ➡️ Top universities have started to reinstate SAT and ACT score requirements due to the difficulty of differentiating students based on GPA and extracurricular activities alone. ➡️ Motivation is key in test preparation. Helping students identify their why, whether it's getting into a specific college, winning scholarships, or achieving personal goals, can drive their motivation to study and improve their scores. ➡️ Parents and students should consider applying to colleges that offer merit-based financial aid, as Ivy League universities often do not provide such aid. Broadening the college application pool can increase the chances of receiving scholarships and reducing the cost of college. Meet Shaan Patel Dr. Shaan Patel, MD, MBA, is founder and CEO of Prep Expert. In this episode, Lisa and Jackie discuss:The most significant overhaul of the SAT to date.Exploring the new version of the SAT with a focus on the digital format, timing, and structure. Insight as to whether the digital SAT better aligns with modern teens than paper testing. The revamped SAT and how it compares to the ACT. Key Takeaways: With many universities, including Dartmouth and Yale, returning to requiring test scores, understanding SAT and ACT options is paramount for parents and students preparing to tackle the college admissions process. Jackie found that more high school students are interested in learning about the SAT and improving their scores. The students are adapting to new technologies, and many are ready for online testing. This opens conversations with parents and students about whether the online SAT or paper ACT is best for their student. Part of test prep is not just learning the test but learning how to use digital tools. “Even with the lack of information, it is a very easy test to navigate given it has consistent topics across the board.” – Jackie PollinaAbout Jackie Pollina: Jackie co-founded J&J Test Prep, a test prep company that specializes in both SAT and ACT prep. J&J Test Prep offers private tutoring, intensive classes, and shorter-term classes (crash courses). Jackie also co-founded No B.S. SAT Prep, an on-demand SAT prep platform for the new digital SAT. This platform boasts 200+ videos, 1700+ practice questions, and mimics all technological features of the digital SAT. Jackie is a social media star: she runs @testpreptips, a test prep-oriented TikTok account with around 300,000 followers.Episode References:#090 Should my teen take the Online ACT? with Adam Snoza https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/podcast/090-should-my-teen-take-the-online-act-with-adam-snoza/ #060 Say Goodbye to the Paper SAT Test with David Blobaum https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/podcast/060-say-goodbye-to-the-paper-sat-test/Desmos Calculator https://help.desmos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406040715149-Getting-Started-Desmos-Graphing-Calculator Bluebook: https://bluebook.collegeboard.org/ Get Lisa's Free on-demand video: How-to guide for your teen to choose the right major, college, & career...(without painting themselves into a corner, missing crucial deadlines, or risking choices you both regret). https://flourishcoachingco.com/videoConnect with Jackie:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@testpreptips Website: https://jjtestprep.com/contact Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jjtestprep/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jjtestprep Connect with Lisa:Website: https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@flourishcoachingcoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/flourish-coaching-coConnect with Lisa:Website: https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@flourishcoachingcoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/flourish-coaching-co

The digital SAT may look like the future of standardized admissions tests, but the exam continues a long tradition of verbal priorities. The more things change, the more they stay the same! Amy and Mike invited educator Lori Goldstein to talk all about digital SAT Reading & Writing. What are five things you will learn in this episode? How is the SAT Reading & Writing section structured? How important are vocabulary skills on the test? What makes SAT Reading questions so difficult? What makes SAT Writing questions so difficult? What can students do to excel in SAT Reading & Writing? MEET OUR GUEST Lori Goldstein grew up in NY and NJ and attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning a degree in Communications. She worked in television for a while (behind the scenes) and then took a job in Florida. Eventually, Lori started selling sailboats in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, which provided her the opportunity to go sailing every chance she had. After raising her family, Lori decided to become a math teacher. She enrolled to get the credits needed to re-learn all the high school math that she had forgotten. This was actually fun for her, allowing her inner nerd to come out. She started tutoring kids in math. Eventually, one parent asked if she could help their daughter with the SAT. “Why not?” she said. The rest is history. Now that college admissions is moving back into a test-preferred environment, students don't have to struggle with the choice of whether or not to take a college entrance exam but rather which one. Amy and Mike invited educator Susan Powers to weigh the important factors in choosing between the digital SAT and the ACT. What are five things you will learn in this episode? Why should students give thought to which test they want to take? How are the ACT and digital SAT different? How does the ACT Science section play into a decision about which test to take? The company has grown from a solopreneur to a larger company with multiple tutors. Susan delights in all aspects of the business from tutoring to curriculum and resource development to process improvement to hiring those few rare gems and teaching them how to help students too! In the Season 5 premiere of #PREPPED: The Test Prep Podcast, Naka welcomes TestTakers President Frank Pomilla and Senior Director Brian Corridan back to the show to discuss the future of the SAT and standardized testing. The College Board is set to launch the new digital SAT domestically in the United States in March 2024, and some students will have a glimpse at the digital version of the PSAT this fall.
