Sal started as a professional in the fitness industry as a trainer at the age of 18. His passion for fitness combined with his love of people quickly propelled him into big box gym management by the time he was 19 years old. During his career in gym management he grand opened some of the largest gyms in the California Bay Area and was often recognized as a top performer in sales, production and team leadership earning him accolades from top industry leaders. At the age of 24 he left the commercial gym industry to open his own fitness and wellness studio after he became dissatisfied with the big box gym approach to health and fitness. He wanted to bring a wellness based well rounded approach to people. In his small studio facility he brought in hormone and nutrition specialists, acupuncturists, gut health professionals and meditative/body work providers along with fitness trainers. This well rounded environment formed the voice that's Sal is often currently lauded for. It was during his time in his wellness studio that he figured out how to solve the hardest and most persistent problems with fitness, health and wellness. His approach led to long term success with his clients and he developed a behavioral focused approach towards health and fitness. After a decade of running his studio he met Doug Egge the current producer of Mind Pump and shortly after he met Adam Schafer and Justin Andrews. They quickly hit it off due to their different backgrounds but similar approaches to fitness and health and they decided to start a fitness and health podcast. Mind Pump was launched and quickly became the number one fitness and health podcast in the world. Currently Sal is one of the most sought after experts in fitness and health with his effective, grounded and easy to understand style of communication. He has been on hundreds of top podcast shows and frequently speaks at trainer and health practitioner events. His passion for fitness, health and people is unmatched and he is steadfast with his goal of making the fitness industry one that is a force for good, with long term health being the focus and not one that is riddled with diet pills, crash diets and false promises. A quote that Sal is often credited for summarizes his approach to fitness and health. “Exercise and eat right because you love your body, not because you hate your body.”
SO grateful for this podcast episode interview with Adam Schafer IFBB Pro, but most importantly he is one of the co-hosts of Mind Pump Podcast with Sal Di Stefano, Justin Andrews and Doug Egge. Their health and fitness podcast is HUGE and covers so many health and fitness topics you'll need to go check them out. Today's interview was a little selfish as I wanted to pick his brain on business and podcasting! Heres more about Adam: Adam had a lot of adversity to overcome as a child. He lost his father to suicide at the age of seven and bounced around to nine different homes by the time he was seventeen. Adam was bullied in school which ultimately led to him being home-schooled. In the midst of his childhood turmoil one constant in Adam's life was his love for sports. He was a natural athlete who loved snowboarding, water skiing, basketball and anything else sports related. Adam's love for sports led him down the path of learning about fitness and nutrition. Adam got started with his career in fitness in 2001. His first entrepreneurial venture was as a child of ten so it seemed natural for Adam to become an entrepreneur in fitness. As a part of his ongoing quest to learn and grow in his career Adam has obtained certifications from top fitness training institutions including the International Fitness Professionals Association, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the National Council on Strength and Fitness, and the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association. Adam also prioritizes his own fitness and worked diligently to become an IFBB Men's Physique Pro which allows him to compete as a professional bodybuilder. Early in his career Adam discovered that he loved to train and teach others. He has worked with over 1000 people as a trainer and fitness expert and deeply values the lessons he has learned from clients. In addition to training clients one-on-one Adam has also led boot camps, provided nutrition consulting, and helped other trainers improve their sales and leadership skills. Adam has found a way to train and teach even more people through Mind Pump. Adam found that combining his passion and expertise with that of Sal, Justin, and Doug gives him the opportunity to make a big impact on the fitness industry. He hopes to change it for the better and bridge the gap between wellness and performance. Through Mind Pump, Adam wants to offer a media outlet that provides fitness and health education in the most entertaining way possible. Power Quotes From The Show The Vulnerability Of Fatherhood "Being a dad, you definitely realize how invincible you were before in the sense that you've never been vulnerable like you are the second you care about something more than yourself." - Sal Di Stefano Facing Mortality: What Is It That Truly Matters? "If you look at studies on people who are faced with their mortality, people with chronic disease who have a year to live, people on the death bed… Nobody says I wish I worked more or I made more money. Everybody says I wish I spent more time with my kids, I wish I had kids, or I wish stayed with that partner, I wish I was more with my family and friends." - Sal Di Stefano Same Problems, New Environment "These problems that we have today are actually not new problems. It's a new environment… The reason why people are unhappy now is although we have more, they can see the next guy that has more than they do, as they compare themselves. That's not a new problem… This is human behavior. I don't think they're new problems, I think we have different circumstances. Human behavior doesn't change, I think we still have to learn the same lessons." - Sal Di Stefano Links From Today's Show Dr. John Gottman 451 Laura Coe | Understanding Akashic Records: How To Live Your Dharma, Spiritual Bypassing, Twin Flames & Soul Mates MPM: 1480 How To Find Peace & Meaning Amid Chaos With Bishop Robert Barron 484 Stefan Chmelik | Vagus Nerve Toning: The Science + Spirit of Healing From Stress With Sensate The Bible - Isaiah 45:7 405 Tim Corcoran | Vision Quest: How To Find Your Place In The Ecology of Life, Purpose Mountain & Spiritual Courage 457 Josh Trent: Solocast | Healing The Father Wound, 100+ Hours Fasting, Vision Questing + Being Alone With Mother Nature's Wisdom Mind Pump Media Mind Pump Podcast: Josh Trent Of Wellness Force On The Future Of Tech In Fitness & Beyond 437 Josh Trent | Death & Rebirth: Why I'm Saying Goodbye to Wellness Force… Jordan Peterson Joe Dispenza Bruce Lipton Arnold Schwarzenegger MPM Co-host: Adam Schafer MPM Co-host: Justin Andrews MPM Producer: Doug Egge Paleo Conference - Austin, Texas Shawn Stevenson: The Model Health Show 384 Shawn Stevenson | Eat Smarter: Use the Power of Food to Reboot Your Metabolism, Upgrade Your Brain, and Transform Your Life 333 Dr. Kelly Brogan | The Spiral Path: How To Own & Love Your Self Jessica Di Stefano Arthur Brooks Chris Kresser MPM: 620 Chris Kresser On The Chronic Disease Equation, The Potato Hack For Fat Loss, The Disease Worse Than Being Eaten By A Shark & MORE 140 Unconventional Medicine – Chris Kresser MPM: 1480 How To Find Peace & Meaning Amid Chaos With Bishop Robert Barron MPM: 910 Paul Chek Paul Chek MPM: 1792 The Secrets Of Happy People With Arthur C. A painfully skinny teenager, he felt insecure about his physique and his lack of muscle and strength. Fitness was a way for him to apply hard work and effort towards changing and re-inventing himself. A natural intellect, Sal devoured every fitness, physiology and nutrition publication he could get his hands on. His appetite for knowledge is voracious and he used his passion for learning to maximize his own body's potential. 4 years later Sal walked into his local 24 Hour Fitness gym and applied to be a personal trainer. He quickly became a top performer and, at the age of 19 was promoted to the position of general manager with as many as 40 employees working under him. During this period of time, Sal learned to master skills of sales, marketing, and communication and his gyms broke records in sales and production. At the age of 22, Sal became an entrepreneur. He opened a wellness and personal trainer facility that offered one on one training, massage therapy, nutritional counseling, hormone testing, and acupuncture. At the age of 28 Sals health took a bad turn. Sal's Wellness Journey The years of training his own personal body with excessive amounts of intensity in the pursuit of more muscle combined with the abuse of supplements caused his body to rebel. He lost 15 lbs of muscle and at one point believed he may have an autoimmune disorder. This forced Sal to change his personal approach to fitness. He made health a priority and he visited his insecurities that caused him to abuse his body. It took him a full year of study and learning to transform yet again. Sal learned about gut health, hormone health and how to prioritize health over appearance. He healed his body and changed how he communicates fitness and health and was re-invigorated with a new sense of purpose. Although this was a challenging time for him, it is literally what formed his view on health and how he communicates it to this day. MAPS Programming At 33 years old Sal met Doug Egge who became his client. They formed a close friendship and together they created the first Maps program. Sal was the designer of the workout plan and Doug created the marketing material behind it. Their goal was to shatter the failed muscle-building workout ideas that Sal had personally witnessed as entirely ineffective. They knew that MAPS programming would be vastly superior. Their challenge was how to bring this to the masses. 2 years later Sal met Adam and Justin and together with Doug they started Mind Pump. The goal with Mind Pump was simple... Bring quality fitness and health information to the masses with integrity and honesty. Sal wanted to shift the direction of the fitness industry from an aesthetic insecurity-based industry to a self-love and self-care health industry. He knew this could be accomplished with education through entertainment.

His passion for fitness combined with his love of people quickly propelled him into big box gym management by the time he was 19 years old. After a decade of running his studio he met Doug Egge and shortly after he met Adam Schafer and Justin Andrews. “Exercise and eat right because you love your body, not because you hate your body.” If you enjoyed the episode, please be sure to take a screenshot and share it out on Instagram and tag @thekaylorbetts. Sal Di Stefano is a personal trainer, co-founder of Mind Pump Media, and co-host of Mind Pump, an online radio show/podcast that is dedicated to providing truthful fitness and health information. Sal picked up his first weight at the age of 14. Four years later, Sal walked into his local 24 Hour Fitness gym and applied to be a personal trainer. He quickly became a top performer and, at the age of 19 was promoted to the position of general manager with as many as 40 employees working under him. During this period of time, Sal learned to master skills of sales, marketing and communication and his gyms broke records in sales and production. At the age of 22, Sal became an entrepreneur. He opened a wellness and personal trainer facility that offered one on one training, massage therapy, nutritional counseling, hormone testing and acupuncture. At the age of 28 Sals health took a bad turn. The years of training his own personal body with excessive amounts of intensity in the pursuit of more muscle combined with the abuse of supplements caused his body to rebel. He lost 15lbs of muscle and at one point believed he may have an autoimmune disorder. At 33 years old Sal met Doug Egge who became his client. They formed a close friendship and together they created the first Muscular Adaptation Programming System (MAPS) program. Sal was the designer of the workout plan and Doug created the marketing material behind it. Their goal was to shatter the failed muscle building workout ideas that Sal had personally witnessed as entirely ineffective. They knew that MAPS programming would be vastly superior. Their challenge was how to bring this to the masses. 2 years later Sal met Adam and Justin and together with Doug they started Mind Pump. The goal with Mind Pump was simple...bring quality fitness and health information to the masses with integrity and honesty. Sal wanted to shift the direction of the fitness industry from an aesthetic insecurity based industry to a self love and self care health industry. He knew this could be accomplished with education through entertainment. In this episode, Michael and Sal discuss the percentage that nutrition matters in sculpting your ideal body, how to develop a faster metabolism, and why there's no such thing as motivation (plus, the solution for that). Sal Di Stefano hosts Mind Pump, one of the most popular health and fitness podcasts in the world. From humble beginnings in 2014, the show now brings in more than a million downloads every month. Fed up with pseudo-science and snake oil in fitness, Sal got together with producer Doug Egge and co-hosts Justin Andrews and Adam Schafer to launch Mind Pump. Their mission was simple - use their combined years of experience as personal trainers to bring quality fitness information to the masses with integrity and honesty. The Mind Pump team have been truly prolific in their output, releasing new episodes on an almost daily basis. Alongside podcasting they’ve also built a YouTube channel with more than 390,000 subscribers. Over the past five years they’ve experimented with their content to hone in on what works and grow their audience. Today, the story of Mind Pump offers a textbook example of how to build a successful business from a podcast. In this interview, James Deeney speaks to Sal about why podcasting is the gold-standard medium for building trust, credibility, and audience loyalty.
Every so often, I get together with my fellow fitness-freak podcasting friends – the good fellas from – and we take a rather rough around the edges, occasionally drug or alcohol infused, definitely entertaining and edgy foray into longevity to life to religion to parenting to biohacking and beyond. These always turn out to be incredibly popular podcast episodes, and this latest one - the fifth in our series - is just as crazy as all my other Mindpump podcasts including: The hosts of Mindpump claim to “pull back the curtain on the mythology, snake oil and pseudo-science that pervades the fitness industry and present science-backed solutions that result in increased muscular development and performance while simultaneously emphasizing health.” These guys are, in no particular order of importance: Sal DiStefano () was 14 years old when he touched his first weight and from that moment he was hooked. Growing up asthmatic, frequently sick and painfully skinny, Sal saw weightlifting as a way to change his body and his self-image. In the beginning, Sal’s body responded quickly to his training but then his gains slowed and then stopped altogether. Not one to give up easily, he began reading every muscle building publication he could get his hands on to find ways to bust through his plateau. He read Arnold’s Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding, Mentzer’s Heavy Duty, Kubrick’s Dinosaur Training, and every muscle magazine he could find; Weider’s Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Iron Man and even Muscle Media 2000. Each time he read about a new technique or methodology he would test it out in the gym. At age 18 his passion for the art and science of resistance training was so consuming that he decided to make it his profession and become a personal trainer. By 19 he was managing health clubs and by 22 he owned his own gym. After 17 years as a personal trainer he has dedicated himself to bringing science and truth to the fitness industry. Adam Schafer () is a IFBB men’s physique Pro and fitness expert. Adam made his entrance into the fitness world 14 years ago and has continued to send shock waves throughout the community ever since. He is a man of many talents who wears many hats. He is first and foremost a certified fitness expert who has an insatiable desire to help people in need of major lifestyle changes and daily accountable motivation. He is also incredibly driven entrepreneur and business minded individual with a vision that continually challenges his colleagues and peers to think bigger and achieve more. Justin Andrews () has an incredible passion to disrupt the personal training industry and create ground breaking programs and tools that fitness professionals and clients alike can benefit from. The fitness industry in general needs a massive face lift to speak more to the generation growing up with a more advanced technology tool kit. Justin’s approach is to create programs that utilize technology as it advances and cut through the millions of options people face everyday when seeking specific information relating to their fitness needs. The great thing about where we are today is how easy it is to access information, the bad part about accessing all this information is how much misinformation is out there to weed through. As a health and fitness professional with a proven track record here in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Justin Andrews will keep working tirelessly to keep people educated and connected to quality personal trainers long into the future. Doug Egge () received his first gym membership as a gift from his dad when he was 16 years old. Rocky III had just come out and he was determined to build a body like Stallone. It never happened. Despite following the advice of muscle magazines and busting his butt in the gym, Doug saw minimal gains over the next 30 years. Then he was introduced to Sal Di Stefano by his chiropractor who recommended he work with Sal to eliminate muscle imbalances that were causing lower back issues. Sal’s unique approach, often 180 degrees different from what Doug had read in books and magazines, produced more results in a matter of months than he had experienced in the 30 years prior. Doug with an extensive marketing and media production background, recognized Sal’s unique gift and perspective was missing from the fitness world and suggested that they should join forces. My guests today are the hosts of Mind Pump, Adam Schafer, Sal Di Stefano, & Justin Andrews. They have one of the largest podcasts in the world, receiving over a million downloads per month, and they're consistently at the top of the health & fitness category on Apple Podcasts. Together, the three of them have over 50 years of combined fitness experience as personal trainers, club managers, IFBB fitness competitors, and fitness thought leaders. Over 5 years ago, they were fed up with the fitness industry preying on people's insecurities and they came together to create Mind Pump as a platform to shed the light of truth on health, fitness, and other wellness topics. During our conversation we talked about parenting, digital wellbeing, the future of education, discipline, and so much more. I can't thank the guys enough for hosting me at their beautiful studio in San Jose, Doug Egge for producing the show, and for taking the time to sit down with me. Listen to MindPumpFollow @MindPumpAdam, @MindPumpSal, & @MindPumpJustin on Instagram.
Over 900 episodes and one million downloads per month are impressive figures by anyone’s standards. If that wasn’t enough, with over 20 million views on YouTube, Mind Pump is a broadcast that’s changing the fitness industry and bridging the gap between education and entertainment. Meet Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer, Justin Andrews, Doug Egge of Mind Pump Media. Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer, Justin Andrews and Doug Egge have decades of combined fitness experience as personal trainers, club managers, IFBB competitors and fitness thought leaders. They started as PTs in 24 Hour Fitness under Mark Mastrov, instilling successful business ideals and the mindset needed to make it as an entrepreneur. Their podcast is a seamless blend of education and entertainment, with combined experience of the trio of hosts. Mind Pump started in the days where podcasts weren’t known by the masses. Today, the market has become more competitive and they’re standing out above the rest with a first class studio and an authenticity that’s rarely matched in fitness. With over 900 episodes and one million downloads per month, the Mind Pump team is leading the way with one of the fitness industry's most provocative podcasts. Mind Pump is an online radio show/podcast that has been described as Howard Stern meets fitness. It is sometimes raw, sometimes shocking and is always entertaining and informative. The hosts, Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer and Justin Andrews have over 40 years of combined fitness experience as personal trainers, club managers, IFBB competitors and fitness thought leaders. Episode highlights - How education combined with entertainment will continue to stand out above many other marketing efforts and business models, so long as it’s backed by authenticity. The importance of communication – why there are so many people who can communicate well but have terrible information, or those that know great insights but can’t share the knowledge effectively. Investment and how collaboration will do much better than the results of anyone going it alone in most cases. How your business venture needs a very definitive “why” in order to be successful. Which fitness industry business strategies are ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ and what marketing is best for whether it’s aimed at members, personal training clients, or fitpros. When is the right time to sell once you’ve built up trust and support for any venture before it becomes a true business. Why flash-in-the-pan marketing isn’t working for the fitness industry and why gyms are essentially just trading members instead of bringing new people in. Then when the hosts come on, you talk over each other and can't even introduce what the show is about. At that point, I'd had enough. You said the show was an hour, and when I hear stuff like this, I wonder how much of it is unorganized drivel. Warning: today's podcast episode gets a bit...well edgy - even explicit. See, every so often, I get together with my fellow fitness-freak podcasting friends - the good fellas from - and we take a rather rough around the edges, occasionally drug or alcohol infused, definitely entertaining and edgy foray into longevity to life to religion to parenting to biohacking and beyond. These always turn out to be incredibly popular podcast episodes, and this one promises to be just that. The hosts of Mindpump claim to “pull back the curtain on the mythology, snake oil and pseudo-science that pervades the fitness industry and present science-backed solutions that result in increased muscular development and performance while simultaneously emphasizing health.” T ake a gander at these fellas…as they seem to have the body composition and transformation equation pretty well figured out. They include… Sal DiStefano. Sal was 14 years old when he touched his first weight and from that moment he was hooked. Adam Schafer is a IFBB men’s physique Pro and fitness expert. Justin Andrews has an incredible passion to disrupt the personal training industry and create ground breaking programs and tools that fitness professionals and clients alike can benefit from. Doug Egge received his first gym membership as a gift from his dad when he was 16 years old. Doug and Sal have since produced life-altering programs such as the No BS 6-Pack Formula and MAPS Anabolic. Doug is very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Adam and Justin as Producer of MindPump. In this epic 2+ hour conversation with the MindPump guys, you'll discover: -Health hazards of the new nicotine vapor pens...7:40 Hyper-concentrated amounts of THC. Nearly 100% There's such thing as too much of a good thing (essential oils) St. John's wort an anti-depressant; put it in vodka for 4 weeks, then strain it. -Observation: as humans have manipulated nature, all of a sudden we have a bunch of diseases to worry about...10:45 Two beliefs: creationism vs. evolutionism. Means of concentrating elements have changed. -Synthetic THC, gravity bombs, etc...13:45 A kid took two hits and lost his mind; scary thing to watch. Deaths associated with synthetic cannabinoids It's impossible to kill yourself with real cannabis You want a total plant extract; CBD provides benefits but works better with other cannabinoids present. Actually grows new brain cells. -Oversaturation of cannabis-related products in the marketplace...17:00 If you use a lot of it, you could be getting your body to produce less natural cannabinoids. CBD protein, pre-workout, products. Ben has a high tolerance for stimulants like and caffeine due to his upbringing. Varying reactions to caffeine/CBD combinations. Don't take grapefruit with medication. -How I and my kids are increasing our levels of BDNF, which are naturally low...22:05 Drinking ; using the 3x/week. Side effects of low levels of BDNF. Not enough Not optimal cognitive ability The ins and outs of "smart drugs." I'm not as into them as I once was. -What it was like to start a supplement company, and a progress report 1 year into it...27:30 Began with just a few supplements: , etc. I don't want to be "the face" of the company. I want the products to stand for themselves. I'm behind the scenes, formulating the supplements. We partner with some companies, like . Their labels contain the logo. The process from idea to opening the company... Took around 2 1/2 years. We follow books like , and , . I formulate supplements because I want it, and figure there are others that need it too. headquarters are in Boulder, CO; we use Slack and Voxer to operate remotely. Best selling product is the . Rather than focus on "long tail" concepts, I focus on specific pain points: sleep, longevity, joints, etc. We want people to have just a few supplements in their cupboard. You have to create a high number of SKU's, OR have a huge following in one specific area. -The financial investments and human labor that went into founding Kion...41:30 Initial investment: $100k from a friend, who is an investment partner. I invest in a lot of nutrition, fitness, , etc. companies. Kion has a board of 5 business-savvy members. Everything else I've financed personally. We're in the green less than a year into it. Same growth curve as companies that have been around for 3+ years. Due to existing traction from the podcast, email list, etc. Relationship capital is HUGE. It's not about cold calling... I have a spreadsheet that's a virtual rolodex of influencers Address to send free product Ask them to share on social media Relationships make it easy to decide who to listen to, what products to promote, etc. Having assistants who make our schedule is actually far less stressful than feeling like we're in control of everything. I've successfully built my business hiring experts who can focus on just one particular element of the business. i.e. scheduling, podcasts, etc. (H/T to Gary Keller's .) It's futile to build a huge following on social media and promoting products. Although it's a temporary success, what do you really have to be proud of? It's an unsustainable business model. I'm more concerned with creating a legacy with Kion, my books, podcast, etc. -The risk in terms of your own sanity in being consumed with your appearance...55:00 Look at celebrities using botox, plastic surgery. The body changes, ages. You realize money isn't that important. Focus on building YOU, rather than your image. No one on their death bed wishes they made more money. They wish they had more family time, practicing spirituality: meditation, gratitude, connecting with a higher power. There's a lot to be gained by abstaining from certain comforts of life. Delayed gratification. How do you want to be remembered? What legacy do you want to build? -Balancing scientific truth and spiritual truth...1:04:00 Light is the first thing created. Research has shown that the primary way in which cells communicate is via biophotonic signaling. There's a reason I'm not paleo... The first people were gardeners; EVERYTHING was good. Science itself eliminates the idea that you can have only science and no moral code. We have a built-in morality that some scientists claim to disprove. -What kinds of things do people hire me for? How to exercise and stay in shape for leisure activities and meet business demands. Blood and biomarker interpretation. Create meal plans based on their own lifestyle. I'm the CEO of their health. Consult with pro sports teams: Miami Heat. Optimize light Micro adjustments that take a team from good to great. Mostly for personal health reasons, rather than outperforming competitors. -Things I do to mitigate jet lag...1:25:45 Circadian cues: light, movement, food. Get into natural light ASAP; block LED lights. Avoid eating on the airplane as much as possible. Recommend macadamia nuts, gum, stevia, electrolyte tablets. Wait until the first regular time to eat a meal. Ex. You land at 2 am, wait until normal breakfast time to eat. DON'T SKIP BREAKFAST! Mimic your movements in the new location, i.e. exercise time. Look for a park; walk in your bare feet. Find a sauna and pool. . -The newest science in anti-aging and longevity research...1:36:30 Calorie restriction memetics , Astragalus Using fasting to build muscle mass. Interval training. When you drop your calories, your metabolism adjusts. Staggered fasting helps mitigate that adjustment. NAD precursors: , , nicotinamide riboside (NR) Primary signaling molecules in our body are free radicals. Fecal transplants. -What are some things I've eliminated from my protocol?...1:58:52 Probiotics -Whether I've ever experimented with my cholesterol levels for strength increases...2:04:34 Is any increase in strength because of fat-soluble vitamins, or because it's an increase in cholesterol? I try to keep my total cholesterol above 200. -The significance of consuming the RIGHT minerals into your diet...2:08:30 Your body needs to be rich in minerals in order to respond to light signals. Drink salt water vs. tap water. Celtic salt is higher than other types of salt. Why a couple of dill kosher pickles relieves a headache. On a quarterly basis, I test for hydroxy vitamin D, calcium, red blood cell magnesium, CO2, chloride levels. I pay the most attention to chloride levels and magnesium. Cramping during exercise is rarely due to mineral depletion or dehydration. Due to an alpha motor neuron reflex. To reverse this cramp, taste something incredibly salty or incredibly spicy. The taste causes a motor neuron reflex and relieves the cramp. -My reaction to being labeled the “pseudoscience guy”...2:20:30 Religion and spirituality are very difficult to prove. Some things such as cells communicating via biophotonics light signaling have been proven since the 1700's; it's just not common knowledge. People are afraid of it, or it disrupts the status quo. There's a certain amount of "industry manipulation" on the information we receive. -My opinion on the upcoming debates between Layne Norton/Dominic D'Agostino and Chris Kresser/Joel Kahn on the Joe Rogan Podcast...2:27:30 Resources mentioned in this episode: -The crew for fat loss, muscle gain, mobility, sports performance and more. -My previous 3 podcasts with the MindPump guys: - -Book: by Ryan Holiday -Book: - by Aubrey Marcus - - -15% off first purchase - - (BDNF) - - -Article: -Book: by Keith Ferrazzi -Website: | Men's Interests and Lifestyle -Book: by Cacilda Jethá and Christopher Ryan - - - -Book: by Ben Greenfield - - - -Video: - Episode Sponsors: - Brighten your mind. 128 Mind Pump: In a tech-driven world with more connection and media distraction than ever before, how can we balance these forces so they assist in our wellness journey? JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST This level of technology and social integration is still in its infancy, and we already see some of the physical and psychological impacts. Our constant distractions make it challenging to focus and enjoy the present moment, and the mainstream media constantly promotes fear and drama. Studies are also showing the links between mobile phone addiction with depression and anxiety. These new technologies have far reaching benefits and also unintended consequences. It's the conscious choice of how we use and incorporate them into our lives that will dictate their impact. In this highly digital and connected age, we have to ask ourselves an important question: How can we develop a healthy use of technology so it enhances our productivity and wellness? On this episode of Wellness Force Radio, we explore this topic and more with the team from Mind Pump Media, Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer, and Justin Andrews. We touch on great topics such as the future of group exercise, the benefits of getting in nature, and how to increase our emotional intelligence. Listen To Episode 128 As We Uncover: Sales stories from 24-hour fitness Mistakes made by beginner trainers Interview styles and how they prep for shows The rapid speed at which technology is changing the world and our habits The addictive properties of technology How apps and social media are engineered to get us hooked How new forms of stimulation chemically alter the brain Why mindfulness will dictate our habits How the ego thrives and survives off drama and negativity Predictions for the future of Virtual Reality How we can stop identifying with thoughts that don't empower us Creating sustainable change by getting in touch with our true motives How our diet can affect skin care Why we need to partition time for self-care The unhealthy ways we choose to numb ourselves from problems Why we must avoid getting stuck in a single workout routine Finding the balance between intense and relaxing workouts The rejuvenating effects of spending time in nature How the fitness space is beginning to gamify workouts Top 3 Takeaways From The Episode Our ego loves to feed into drama and negativity. Unfortunately, the media is made up of 99% bad news. We have to understand that our consumption drives the creators, and what we consume is what they produce. Try to fill your mind with positive content that shows us what is possible. We can find tremendous emotional healing when we stop identifying with our thoughts. Slow down and try to observe, without letting your mind consume you or become who you are. Exercise has to be viewed as an investment in our health. When we put the time in, we get exponential hours of energy and productivity back. Partition out time on a regular basis for self-care. Power Quotes "Mindfulness is the root cause of our eating and lifestyle habits." - Sal Di Stefano "It's thought, then feeling, then action." - Josh Trent "It's going to be a challenge removing our culture's addiction to technology." - Justin Andrews "We must examine our true motives to discover the root of deeper issues." - Adam Schafer "While building our life and business, our emotional health can't be lost along the way ." - Josh Trent "The endorphin rush from social media is being compared to that of drug addiction." - Adam Schafer "Deception in the media has always been around, but it's getting much more creative." - Sal Di Stefano "First, work on the relationship with yourself, then with food, and then with exercise."- Adam Schafer The "Mind Pump" Podcast MindPump exposes the RAW TRUTH about health, fitness, nutrition and more... Meet the guys from . The hosts - who traveled all the way up from San Jose to descend upon my my house in Spokane, Washington to record this podcast - claim to "pull back the curtain on the mythology, snake oil and pseudo-science that pervades the fitness industry and present science-backed solutions that result in increased muscular development and performance while simultaneously emphasizing health." Take a gander at these fellas...as they seem to have the body composition and transformation equation pretty well figured out. They include... Sal DiStefano... Sal was 14 years old when he touched his first weight and from that moment he was hooked. Adam Schafer... Adam Schafer is a IFBB men's physique Pro and fitness expert. Justin Andrews... Justin has an incredible passion to disrupt the personal training industry and create ground breaking programs and tools that fitness professionals and clients alike can benefit from. Doug Egge... Doug received his first gym membership as a gift from his dad when he was 16 years old. Sal's unique approach, often 180 degrees different from what Doug had read in books and magazines, produced more results in a matter of months than he had experienced in the 30 years prior. Doug with an extensive marketing and media production background, recognized Sal's unique gift and perspective was missing from the fitness world and suggested that they should join forces. Doug and Sal have since produced life-altering programs such as the No BS 6-Pack Formula and MAPS Anabolic. Doug is very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Adam and Justin as Producer of MindPump. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why bodybuilders are traveling to Kuwait and mysteriously coming back with 20+ pounds of extra muscle...[17:00] -The truth about underground muscle building supplements like SARMS, Clomid, injectable testosterones and more...[23:20 & 30:10] -Why old-timey strength training protocols could be the best way to build strength compared to new-school bodybuilding protocols...[34:00 & 41:00] -How to do an "anabolic triggering session"...[52:00] -Why you need far less protein than you think...[59:30] -The biggest myths in the fitness industry...[67:40] -And much more...
