Today, Michael welcomes back conscious entrepreneur, Gerard Powell. Gerard is the founder and CEO of Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica, the "go-to" program for spiritual awakening and personal transformation where 98% of attendees report having a life-changing miracle during their stay. After surviving a violent childhood and an early stint as a gun and drug trafficker, Gerard became mired in a life of drug, sex, and alcohol addiction despite becoming a rich and successful entrepreneur. Through rehab, years of spiritual counseling with Agape ministers, and experiencing an ayahuasca healing ceremony, over time, Gerard was able to completely transform his life mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. This experience inspired him to create Rythmia as a “one-stop” center to assist others in doing the same. During their time together, Michael and Gerard discuss: -Gerard's spiritual journey and the healing modalities he found most helpful -The key signs or experiences one has while going through a profound transformation and how one can maintain their spiritual connection and continuing evolution after their initial awakening -What inspired Gerard to create a “one-stop” holistic healing space with an on-site medical center in Costa Rica and how Rythmia caters to those seeking spiritual and emotional healing and enlightenment -Michael's upcoming “The Answer Is You” course at Rythmia, January 12 - 19, 2025, and so much more! Next, Michael leads a guided meditation. What changes when you see yourself and others through a Loving gaze and learn more of who you truly are? Everything changes. In this episode you will learn to use the intelligence of your heart to create the right conditions for healing not only ourselves, but the failing systems we are a part of. Everywhere you look, people in all walks of life are “going minimalist” and getting rid of their possessions. Yet as exciting as it can be to throw out half of your belongings, does it really bring happiness? As Light Watkins says: “If you're unhappy now, becoming a minimalist isn't likely to change that… unless you do the inner work to cultivate happiness on the inside.” Join Theosophist Benjamin W. Decker and Author/Meditation Teacher/Public Speaker Light Watkins to discuss:
"The power of acting is really sacred. Acting is a way to reveal back to human beings, the human condition. It's the heart of empathy. This is why I always say I'm going to go to Congress and teach everybody how to act. Can you imagine these congressmen and women? They would have to look opposite their enemy, and really take in another human being."- Anthony Meindl on The Modern Spirituality Show Join Theosophist Benjamin W. Decker and Acting Coach/Director Anthony Meindl for a riveting dialogue including the following:
"In acting, when you play villains, rule number one, if you judge your character, if you call a "villain" a villain, you have just lost yourself that role. The second that you judge what you are choosing for that character, you ruin the truth and the authenticity of what an individual who expresses like that, feels.""The process that an actor goes through is almost the exact same thing as a spiritual awakening. When you look at acting and a spiritual awakening, they become synonymous."- Actress AnnaLynne McCord on The Modern Spirituality ShowJoin Theosophist Benjamin W. Decker and his longtime friend, Actress/Activist AnnaLynne McCord, as they discuss the following topics including:
"When you're going through a change, a transition, facing a big challenge, or whether you're triggered, angry, in grief, heartbroken, or you're moving across town, when we take those moments, and we walk that path out through the guidance of a meditation, we actually then have the alchemy of all that energy. The key in those meditations, is that you're guided into realizing that you have all that energy, and by changing your relationship to it, now it becomes currency."- Benjamin W. Decker on The Modern Spirituality Show Your host Ben Decker welcomes Suze Yalof Schwartz, the Founder and CEO of the Unplug Meditation App, and the world's first drop-in secular meditation studio. "My experience growing up, and my mom's experience coming here from a country where she watched civil society disintegrate, has always informed me and my worldview, and it's very clear to me, and a lot of immigrant families to come from war torn countries or countries that have disintegrated that you have to fight to keep it and you have to fight for civil rights and equity.""I'm worried that we're not making good on that American promise that, that families like mine struggled and sacrificed for and that our country has become so divided, our politics is just so broken, that we need real progressives who are running on their values to get in there and create real solutions for our communities."- Political Candidate Alex Mohajer (37th District CA State Senate) on The Modern Spirituality Show38-year-old Iranian Irvine native Alex Mohajer is running for California State Senate in the 37th Senate District, representing his hometown in Orange County, CA. "The sacred medicines, they have a tradition, they have a root. They have a design and a story. Cultural appropriation is just taking things that have an entire tradition behind them, and then changing them to suit a different narrative. You've got the business, the car, the boat, the house. You're blessed with a great family, friends, access to more than your wildest dreams. But something is missing. Something is gnawing at you. If this sounds familiar, you may be in need of “soul fulfillment,” which is what Host Chris Schembra's guest on this episode of Gratitude Through Hard Times has provided thousands of people. At his Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica, Founder & CEO Gerry Powell offers comprehensive plant-based medicine retreats. The modalities work at a deep level to help remove shame, fear, trauma and the anger that fuels – and is a downfall for – so many hyper-successful people. You'll learn about Gerry's transformational journey and how he stepped away from the multimillion-dollar serial IPO lifestyle he thought would bring him happiness – but that instead left him profoundly empty and suicidal. Working with plant-based shamanic techniques opens up new pathways to self-acceptance and compassion. It's a journey that 97% of Rythmia participants describe as nothing short of a “miracle,” a source of relief and revelation that transcends our ingratitude, confusion and old, unhealed wounding. Most of all, says Gerry, people leave his one-week retreats with an entirely new regard for life: “I made it out of sheer perseverance and brutality, but there are so many other ways to do it and feel different.” You're invited to explore and see your soul's fulfillment in a completely new way!More information about the medically licensed plant medicine and transformational retreat experience offered at Rythmia is available at this link, along with a video about Gerry's very personal journey to wellness (here). If you'd like to learn more about Chris and his 7:47 Virtual Gratitude Experience or subscribe to our newsletter, please visit this link.Click hereto hear more fascinating conversations with Fortune 500 CEOs, professional athletes and entertainerswho have shared their human stories on Gratitude Through Hard Times. So many people, but Shaman Gina was pivotal. The Gift of Perspective: How plant medicine can help reveal to us the ways in which even those who hurt us are of help in our lives – even when we don't see it.Sections in Chris's book that are relevant to plant medicine:Connect the Dots Backwards: About gratitude as a link to our past.Struggles into Benefits: About the science behind “grateful processing.”Feeling the Feelings: How a lifetime of numbing and other corrosive emotional coping mechanisms turned around only after Gerry was able to embrace a shamanic experience with plant-based medicine.Repairing the Fraction: Gerry turned his life over to healing, creating a unique retreat space at @Rythmia in Costa Rica, changing the lives of more than 14,000 seekers.Coming from Ingratitude: How a hypervigilant “brute” approach to the pursuit of goals yields only more anger, shame, guilt, regret.Plant Medicine: It's a conduit to compassion, self-love, wisdom and generosity that enables us to be collaborative, empathetic, curious leaders.Knowing When You're Ready: Plant medicine comes into focus when we are ready to put the pieces together and open ourselves to transformation. The Comeback Story: Rythmia is about taking people out of their hole, to the brink and back from despair to a “miracle.”Joining the Tribe: Why plant medicine work of the type Gerry practices offers hyper-achievers a place to reconnect, work through shame and guilt and find wholeness in a safe community environment. QUOTABLE“It's the perfect time to be in this work as the world is waking up that there is a greater human potential out there.” (Chris) “There are people who help pull you towards your higher self and people who hurt you who keep pushing you towards your higher self.” (Gerry) “Gratitude is about looking into the past and being grateful for all the steps that took you to where you are today – the good and the bad.” (Chris) “Once you die you can actually live life without the fear of death, which makes you really want to be more than anything a beneficial presence here on earth.” (Gerry) “The secret to success and happiness is not necessarily a new go-to-market strategy, not a higher intellect or new network … It's actually to look inside yourself and be at peace with who you are.” (Chris) “Very few of us who are hyper-successful were raised in the right way. There's a reason those folks are in the one-tenth of one percent. And it's not because everything was nice and tidy.” (Gerry) “Guilt and shame and regret are extremely lonely emotions and the thing you think you should do is not talk about it. But it's actually the opposite: Confront it, talk about it and forgive yourself. Plant medicine really helps you do that.” (Chris) “The obstacles you've overcome – the shame, guilt and trauma you feel right now – are the best parts about you because true human connection and belonging do not occur when our lives appear to be perfect.” (Chris) LINKS/FURTHER RESOURCES:More about the global leadership community YPO at this link.About "Grateful Processing," a concept developed by Prof. Phillip Watkins of Eastern Washington University."The Magic of Thinking Big," by David J. The world floods us with messages about who we should be in order to thrive in this world, but Human Design teaches us that the same advice is not correct for everyone. The road to being your happiest, most successful self is one that is totally unique to you. Archetypes can serve as an invaluable tool on our journey of spiritual awakening. When we learn more about ourselves and how we are designed, we can explore how we are truly meant to operate. In this episode, Ben Decker and Elton Anderson Jr. discuss the four Human Design types (Projector, Generator, Manifestor and Reflector). Elton reads Ben's chart and reveals Ben's type is Projector, along with President Barack Obama and celebrity Kris Jenner. More about Elton Anderson Jr. Elton's passion for creativity was the foundation for a very successful photography career involving high concept photo shoots for many celebrities including “Puff Daddy” Combs, Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish, Nas and Kendrick Lamar. He also traveled the world to 81 different countries and was the TV host of popular travel show, but he ended up feeling unfulfilled and completely inauthentic. He knew deep inside of him lay a much greater purpose and he was determined to figure out what that was. He gave away EVERYTHING and went on a year long journey through Brazil, Africa, Southeast Asia and India to learn the art of letting go. Just 9 days into his first leg, he ended up in a Brazilian hospital fighting for his life as he battled malaria. He made a promise to God that if he lived, he would dedicate his life towards bettering himself and the lives of others. He finally discovered that true abundance is not found in material things or "status", but instead true abundance is within us all. He is passionate about sharing Human Design with the world and how it helped him and many others design the life of their dreams. Dr. Jeff McNairy, the chief medical officer of Rythmia Life Advancement Center has focused the past couple of decades on helping people find healing and happiness through the most breakthrough modalities, psychology, and he is an advocate (like me) for plant medicine. He is a trauma-informed phycologist, so I wanted to see first-hand how mother nature has the ability to heal and transform our minds and bodies, especially with plant medicine. Through Dr. McNairy's intense experience and programs with the most desperate patient populations (addition, acute mental health, and trauma), he has seen that the only real healing can come from within. Today we talk about healing and the fastest path to wholeness.

Join Ben Decker and his dear friend Moun D'Simone on this fascinating and empowering episode where they discuss:
You go to the gym and eat quality food for your body; you read, study and see your therapist every week for your brain; and you may even tune into a spiritual guide for your spirit but what about our liberation? How can we learn how to get free and unlearn the scripts of the systems of oppression? How can we contribute to the joy and pleasure of the entire collective? What many don't realize is that oppression is bondage for not just for the oppressed but also for the oppressor. Our guest this week, Liberation Coach, community founder & podcast host, Martissa Williams, has a solution of how to get free and unlearn oppression as a crucial embodiment practice towards modern spirituality and spiritual awakening. This week Ben brings Rythmia Life Advancement Center's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jeff McNairy, Psy.D., M.P.H. onto the show. Jeff has been working in the health care field for 25 years. He has worked in a variety of medical environments and seen the struggle individuals have when actually trying to heal. The current Western system of heath care is deficient in healing the population. It is more concerned with managing symptoms and using external sources for “change.” Through Dr. McNairy's intense experience with the most desperate patient populations (addiction, acute mental health, and trauma), he has seen that the only real healing can come from within.Rythmia: https://rythmia.com Website:https://www.jeffmcnairy.com/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/rythmia_/https://www.instagram.com/drjeffmcnairy/Press:https://finance.yahoo.com/news/rythmia-points-societys-plant-medicine-160000005.htmlhttps://onken.co/dr-jeff-mcnairy-plant-medicine/Book a trip to Rythmia October 9th - 16th hosted by Ben Decker:https://rythmia.link/deckerevent Ben Decker, The Unplug App & The Modern Spirituality Podcast in The New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/03/30/well/guided-meditations.html Develop Your Meditation Practice with books by Ben Decker: Modern Spirituality: A Guide to the Heart of Mindfulness, Meditation, and the Art of Healing https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1647398150/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tpbk_p1_i2 Practical Meditation for Beginners: 10 Days to a Happier, Calmer Youhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1641520256/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tpbk_p1_i0 Daily Mindfulness: 365 Exercises to Deepen Your Practice and Find Peacehttps://www.amazon.com/Daily-Mindfulness-Exercises-Deepen-Practice/dp/164739192X/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Meditations on Christ: A 5-Minute Guided Journal for Christianshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1646118065/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tpbk_p1_i3Affiliate of The Modern Spirituality Podcast:
