Shannon has known Janet Yang since the late 80s! She was the inspired force behind the idea to make a Bruce Lee biopic at Universal that ultimately became Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. She went on from there to become an award winning producer at the highest levels. Maybe you've heard of Empire of the Sun, The Joy Luck Club or The People vs Larry Flint? If you have, then you've been touched by Janet. Aside from being a producer Janet is also the current president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She saw a need for greater AANHPI representation and she stepped up to serve. Also a founding member of Gold House, Janet is one to heed a call to action. She is a powerhouse in a kind package – the best kind of powerhouse in my opinion! Shannon is pleased to call her a friend and colleague and overjoyed to introduce you all to her!  Please read her bio on brucelee.com/podcast Connect with Janet: Website: www.janetyang.com Instagram: @janetyangofficial

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Randy Edelman, Renowned Film Score Composer & Songwriter About Harvey's guest: Today's guest,  Randy Edelman, is a renowned, multi-award winning composer, musician, producer and singer-songwriter, whose body of work is truly monumental.   As a solo artist, he's recorded 16 albums and had numerous hit singles including “Uptown Up-tempo Woman”, “Concrete and Clay” and “Nobody Made Me”.   But most of his classic songs became huge hits for some of the greatest music stars of all time.  Everyone from Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney and Shirley Bassey, to Petula Clark, the 5th Dimension, and Kool and the Gang, have recorded his songs.   Some of his biggest hits include “Weekend in New England” by Barry Manilow, “I Can't Make Music” by The Carpenters, “Isn't it a Shame” by Patti LaBelle, “Down in the Everglades” by Willy Nelson, “If Love is Real” by Olivia Newton-John, “Blue Street” by Blood, Sweat and Tears, “The Laughter and the Tears” by Dionne Warwick, and of course, “Sunny Days”, recorded by his mega-talented wife, Jackie DeShannon.    And if that weren't enough, our guest is also one of the most highly acclaimed composers for movies and television, having written over 100 soundtracks for movies, including “My Cousin Vinny”, “The Mask”, “Ghostbusters 2”, “Twins”, “Kindergarten Cop”, “Six Days Seven Nights”, “Dragonheart”, “Beethoven”,  “Anaconda”, “Diabolique”, “Gettysburg”, “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story”, and “Last of the Mohicans”.  Some of the TV shows and series he's scored include “MacGyver”, “Backdraft 2” for Netflix, and “Citizen X” for HBO. And believe me, I'm just scratching the surface of this man's compositions.   He's received some of the most prestigious awards including an Emmy Award, 13 BMI Awards including their highest honor, the Richard Kirk Award for Outstanding Career Achievement, the Composer and Lyricist's Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati.  In addition, he received nominations for a Golden Globe Award AND a BAFTA  Award for “Last of the Mohicans”, and nominations for the Saturn Science Fiction Award for “Dragonheart”, and a Gold Spirit Best Comedy Award nomination for “Leap Year”.   His live show entitled “A Life in 80 Minutes” played to sold out audiences and got rave reviews.   He's written a musical entitled “Short Cut” about the construction of the Panama Canal.  And he has a new album coming out, entitled “Can't Be Killed By Any Conventional Means”.  AND his brand new single entitled “Everything is Possible”, on which he collaborated with legendary rapper Grandmaster Melle Mel, is now available for streaming. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Randy Edelman, go to:https://www.randyedelman.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQPOMaKamdeM6_yfNYIO4yghttps://open.spotify.com/artist/3shMd6Vll0mOcviQ3hrk8m?autoplay=truehttps://music.apple.com/ca/artist/randy-edelman/3297021 #RandyEdelman   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Book Vs. Movie: Dragon: The Bruce Lee StoryThe Shannon Lee Book/Memoir Vs. the 1993 Biopic Bruce Lee is one of the biggest martial artists of all time and created the style Jeet Kune Do, which caused controversy within the martial arts community. As a Chinese-American, he wanted to spread the word to anyone eager to learn and not keep secrets. He also believed in pushing himself to the limit in everything he did, which caused friction in Hollywood and Hong Kong film communities. Born Lee Jun-fan November 27, 1940, in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong by parents who tried to keep their smart, energetic son who would get into street fights in the 1950s. After being sent back to America to get his act together, Lee became more interested in school (mainly history and philosophy) and brought his new martial arts ideas to eager Bay Area students to Seattle. After demonstrating his new brand of Kung Fu in a 1964 championship in Long Beach, California, Hollywood came calling for Lee. His early years as a child movie actor in Hong Kong came in handy with his series The Green Hornet, playing sidekick Kato. Though it only lasted one season, it helped gain a worldwide fan base. Heading back to his childhood home, Lee produced, wrote, and acted in several films that are now considered Kung Fu classics, including The Big Boss & Fists of Fury. When he passed mysteriously on July 20, 1973, he was still producing what would become his biggest film, Enter the Dragon. His death at the age of 32 by Cerebral Edema has been explored dozens of times over the last fifty years, with the latest theory being he had too much water in his system, and his kidneys could not function properly. The irony is that we are pairing the 1993 movie Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (starring Jason Scott Lee and Lauren Holly) with Shannon Lee's 2020 book Be Water My Friend: The Teachings of Bruce Lee. One of his key philosophies was to “be like water” in dealing with all aspects of life. Linda Lee wrote her account of Lee's life in 1989's The Bruce Lee Story, co-written with her ex-husband. (We have thoughts about his later Lee books and claims!) Shannon helped produce the excellent documentary “30 For 30: Be Water” and How Bruce Lee Changed the World. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Legendary Actor, Producer and Author, Robert Wagner About Harvey's guest: Robert Wagner is one of the most popular and successful stars in the entertainment industry, boasting three hit television series and an impressive list of both feature and television films.  He has acted in over 100 films and made hundreds of television appearances in his 70+ year career.   As a young man under contract to 20th Century Fox, Robert Wagner was cast by Darryl F. Zanuck in With a Song in My Heart. Although the part lasted a scant minute, his performance as a crippled soldier responding to the song of Susan Hayward's Jane Froman brought immediate public reaction to the studio. Spencer Tracy saw his performance in Beneath the Twelve Mile Reef and requested Wagner for the role of his son in Broken Lance. Tracy was so impressed with Wagner, he cast him again as his brother in The Mountain. A small sample of Wagner's numerous film credits includes Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, The Pink Panther, The Curse of the Pink Panther, Midway, The Towering Inferno, Banning, Harper, Prince Valiant, The True Story of Jesse James, and All the Fine Young Cannibals. He starred with Joanne Woodward in her film debut, A Kiss Before Dying.  Antonio Banderas directed Wagner in Crazy in Alabama.  In the 1990s, he was introduced to a new legion of fans with the role of Number Two, the villainous henchman to Dr. Evil, the archenemy of Mike Myers' title character in the Austin Powers trilogy.  On television, Wagner starred in three long-running series.  He was nominated for an Emmy for his role as suave cat-burglar Alexander Mundy in It Takes a Thief with Malachi Throne and Fred Astaire.  He portrayed con man-turned-detective Pete Ryan in Switch with Eddie Albert and Sharon Gless.  And Wagner became a fan favorite as the debonair and charming millionaire/amateur detective Jonathan Hart in Hart to Hart with Stefanie Powers. Other illustrious television performances include starring with Jaclyn Smith in the top-rated miniseries, Windmills of the Gods — based on Sidney Sheldon's best-selling novel; Angie Dickinson in the miniseries Pearl; Audrey Hepburn in Love Among Thieves; Lesley Anne Down in Indiscreet; and Elizabeth Taylor in There Must Be a Pony, which he also executive-produced. He appeared alongside such notable names as Philip Casnoff, Kyle Chandler, Cathy Lee Crosby, Leslie-Ann Down, and Billy Dee Williams in North and South: Book 3, Heaven and Hell.  Sir Laurence Olivier chose Wagner to star with him in the television adaptation of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  Wagner's wife, the late Natalie Wood, co-starred with them. In addition to his film and television ventures, Robert toured the world performing in A.R. Gurney's Love Letters with Stefanie Powers.  They were the first to launch the tour internationally. After his tour with Powers ended, Wagner enjoyed the play so much, he continued performing it at charity events and around the world with his wife, actress Jill St. John. Away from the acting world, Robert Wagner has long been a fan of golf and boasted a five handicap. He once beat professional golfer  Sam Snead in a head-to-head competition.  Footage of this win is posted in the Video section of this page under Additional Videos.  For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/https://www.robert-wagner.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/277363364879/ https://www.instagram.com/robertwagnerofficial/#RobertWagner    #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Welcome to the LoDown, a podcast exploring the voices in and outside the entertainment industry and hosted by Lois Robbins. On this episode of the LoDown, we travel the path of sensitivity and awareness with the quietly strong Jason Scott Lee. Born in Los Angeles, but raised in Hawaii, Jason's story spins like a sage's tale of growth and wisdom that we tap right at the beginning of this episode. Lois and Jason start at the beginning: a distinctly different childhood in Hawaii, then Fullerton Community College in California in the 1980s.  It wasn't long until Jason started landing small roles in some 80's classics: Matlock, The A-Team, and Back to the Future II. By the 90's, he had established himself both as a martial arts actor and an endearing performer with his portrayal of Bruce Lee in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and as the heartfelt and skillful Mowgli in Disney's first live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book.  And then, Jason stepped away from acting all together and returned to Hawaii to build a homestead on 25 acres with no electricity. After studying the life of one of the greatest martial artists of all time, Jason sought something else. Lois and Jason explore the journey he took to seek a life with more sensitivity and awareness, the transformation that journey created, and how living in the boonies was welcomed lifestyle change both before and after COVID. We'll hear about Jason's return to acting, including the challenge he faced taking on his first ever evil role and the joys he has shooting his new project, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., in his backyard - yes, that 25-acre back yard in Hawaii. It's a jam-packed conversation that will make you want to plant some flowers or book a farm for your next vacation (you'll understand soon enough).   To learn more about Jason Scott Lee, you can find him… on Instagram @jasonscottlee on Twitter @jasonscottlee and on Disney+ as Benny Kamealoha in the Doogie Howser remake, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.   Have questions for Lois? Religion and Politics has done a formidable job dividing us from right-to-left. However, it is THE UNIFIED ARTS (music, movies, sports and entertainment) which has always been very effective in bringing us all together since the beginning of time.We will use vivid examples from movies ("Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" - 1993 Starring Jason Scott Lee, directed by Rob Cohen, written by Robert Clouse, Linda Lee Cadwell, and Edward Khmara) and ("Code of Silence" - 1985 Starring Chuck Norris, directed by Andrew Davis, written by Michael Butler, Dennis Shryack, and Mike Gay). While one film (DRAGON) points out how a positive cultural exchange can be a achieved through martial arts, the other (CODE OF SILENCE) prophetically addresses a very crucial problem that we still face today, police misconduct....

Late stage Diet Coke poisoning, I suspect. Babylon 5 had a per-episode budget of about $800,000. Adjusted for inflation to 2017 dollars that's about $1.32 million. The first season of Game of Thrones had a budget of $6 million/episode, and the final season is up to $15 mission. Imagine what the show could look like with today's technology and that kind of budget! (in our Season 1 Wrap-Up episode, dropping in early December, we will play the inevitable casting game. Stay tuned, true believers!) Is the “Mars wanting to be independent” sci-fi trope a projection of the American Revolution? It seems to share a lot of the same elements. “Things were different in the south” is a saying from our grad school advisor, Dr. Joseph Lynch, who maintained this was true no matter where you were speaking of. The second of Lynch's Laws was “Whatever you can imagine, however perverse, someone somewhere has tried it and liked it.” I don't recall much from my years in the Ohio State University history department, but those words have stayed with me. Janet Greek (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0337550/?ref_=ttfc_fc_dr1) didn't have a super-long CV, but what she has done is really good. It was actually Blaise Pascal who, it is believed, was first responsible for the quote about “I wrote a long letter because I did not have time to write a short one.” I wouldn't be surprised if Franklin or Twain claimed to have coined it though; never trusted those two. Ron Canada, who played Captain Pierce here, was also in the 1998 David Hasslehoff vehicle Nick Fury, Agent of Shield. Also he apparently plays an admiral in The Orville, which I consider a step down from that. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0133474/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Louis Turenne: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0877027/?ref_=tt_cl_t12 Louis will return in season 3 episode “Passing Through Gethsemane” along with one of our favorite modern day character actors Brad Dourif! Can't wait!! And seriously, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993) is a great film. Go check it out. Lauren Holly was indeed in Picket Fences. Wagner also discusses the business of Hollywood and its evolution from an industry once dominated by moguls to one run by agents, and examines the career arcs of his peers, carefully considering why some survived and others faded.Engaging and entertaining, You Must Remember This is a window into the splendors of an erstwhile era and an opportunity for readers to live vicariously through one its most beloved leading men.WWW.ROBERT-WAGNER.COMBILL MEDLEY – THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS - THE TIME OF MY LIFE Bill Medley's indelible baritone adorns some of the biggest hits of the twentieth century—"You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration," "Rock and Roll Heaven"—and is prominent on the soundtrack of an entire generation. He and his musical partner, the late inimitable Bobby Hatfield, formed the Righteous Brothers in 1963 and forever changed the sound of popular music. The term "blue-eyed soul" was born. After the Phil Spector-produced "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" hit #1 in 1964 and Bobby Hatfield's sweeping solo vocal turn on "Unchained Melody" enchanted millions, the Righteous Brothers found themselves in the thick of the musical and cultural changes sweeping the nation. They toured with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, became friends with Elvis Presley and the Beach Boys, and brought rhythm and blues to the largest cross-over audience it had reached to date. The Time of My Life is an affecting and vivid memoir of those times and beyond, an unvarnished look at Bill Medley's personal triumphs and tragedies through the filter of five decades of musical, television, motion picture, and live-performance success. Medley opens his head and his heart, sharing his thoughts and feelings about the great African-American music that inspired him, his loving yet tumultuous and complicated relationship with Bobby Hatfield, the murder of his first wife Karen and his struggle to raise their son alone, his close friendship with Elvis and its sad ending, his deep depression over losing his voice (and how he got it back), his smash duet with Jennifer Warnes on "(I've Had) the Time of My Life" for the Dirty Dancingsoundtrack, and how he learned to settle down and become a family man and enjoy a nearly thirty-year (and counting) marriage. But Medley's story isn't just about the #1 hits and the awards. It's the story of an immensely talented young guy who lived the rock star life and reached the pinnacle of fame, success, and excess, and how he was eventually able to renew his commitment to both his faith and his family.WWW.BILLMEDLEY.COM
