Hello Rank Squad! The (first) Transfer Window has officially closed, but there's been plenty of activity on the managerial merry-go-round across Europe, with new faces taking over at new places - to the delight of some and the chagrin of others. On today's episode we're looking at a number of new bosses and analysing how we think they fit their new home. We start with the most recent appointment - Brentford's Thomas Frank is all set to take over at Tottenham Hotspur, who moved on from Ange Postecoglou at the end of last week, and try to build on that Europa League trophy that Ange won in what turned out to be his final game. We discuss the differing approaches and how this might all work out; before moving on to talk about Xabi Alonso's new era at Real Madrid, after he left Bayer Leverkusen to replace Carlo Ancelotti; and his replacement at Leverkusen - former Manchester United and Ajax gaffer Erik ten Hag. Then in Part Three, we get stuck into the Calcio Chaos - Christian Chivu replacing Simone Inzaghi at Inter; Max Allegri returning to AC Milan to take over from the sacked Sergio Conçeição; Gian Piero Gasperini leaving Atalanta to take over from Claudio Ranieri at Roma, with the Tinkerman turning down the Azzurri to stay upstairs in the Eternal City; and former Gasperini disciple Ivan Juric replacing the old chessmaster at Atalanta. There's some chat too about the Club World Cup and some of the transfers yet to happen this summer at the start of the show, and don't forget to take a look at our Patreon, where there's loads more transfer podcasts and newsletters happening over the course of this summer. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
In this episode, we welcome for the third time on The Lab, journalist and author Vince Rugari to reflect on the end of Ange Postecoglou's time at Tottenham. We talk about the highs, the heartbreak, and the chaos of Ange's two seasons in charge, including the unforgettable Europa League win and the collapse in the league. It's a heartfelt goodbye to a unique manager who inspired loyalty, debate, and plenty of drama. If you loved Ange, this one's for you. If not, maybe skip it. Learn more about your ad choices. Newcastle are again looking to tempt Forest in selling £50m rated winger Elanga! To Buy Wolfie a Coffee Click Here: https://buymeacoffee.com/forestfantv Join Wolfie on Forest Fan TV for a sizzling transfer update as Newcastle United reignite their interest in Nottingham Forest's star winger, Anthony Elanga. After Forest rejected a £35m bid from the Magpies on Deadline Day last summer, recent reports indicate Newcastle are back, with Forest holding firm on a valuation exceeding £50m. Wolfie dissects whether Forest should consider cashing in on the 23-year-old Swedish speedster, who bagged five goals and nine assists last season, or if keeping him is crucial for Nuno Espírito Santo's European ambitions. With Elanga's pace and popularity in the squad, is £50m+ enough, or should Forest demand more for their key man? The transfer saga doesn't stop there! Wolfie also dives into the implications of Evangelos Marinakis' recent boardroom moves. Last month, Marinakis placed his Forest shares in a blind trust to comply with UEFA's dual-ownership rules, as his other club, Olympiacos, secured a Champions League spot. With Forest now likely settling for Europa League or Conference League football, Marinakis can retake full control of the club, potentially influencing transfer strategy. Wolfie explores how this change could shape Forest's approach to Elanga's future and their summer spending plans, especially with the allure of European football on the horizon. Should Forest sell Elanga to fund a squad overhaul, or is he too vital to let go? With Newcastle circling and Marinakis back at the helm, the summer transfer window promises to be a blockbuster for Forest. Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is the leading contender to become the next Tottenham boss, Spurs are expected to seek an appointment quickly after sacking Ange Postecoglou on Friday evening. Have the chances of Nottingham Forest playing in the Europa League improved now? To Buy Wolfie a Coffee Click Here: https://buymeacoffee.com/forestfantv Join Wolfie on Forest Fan TV for the latest Forest news update as we dive into the dramatic developments surrounding Crystal Palace's UEFA Europa League saga. In this video, Wolfie breaks down the outcome of Palace's crunch meeting with UEFA, where co-owner John Textor's proposal to place his shares in a blind trust was rejected due to a missed registration deadline. This decision has left Palace's European dreams hanging by a thread, with their multi-club ownership issues involving Textor's stakes in both Palace and Lyon creating a major hurdle. The rejection of Textor's blind trust plan has significantly limited Crystal Palace's options, with the club now facing the possibility of complete expulsion from European competitions. To make matters worse, another Palace shareholder, David Blitzer, has ties to Danish club Brøndby, who qualified for the Conference League, ruling out a potential demotion to that competition. Wolfie discusses how this chaotic situation has opened the door for Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League and secured a Conference League spot, to potentially be promoted to the Europa League if Palace are disqualified. With UEFA's decision expected before the Europa Conference League qualifying draw on June 17, the clock is ticking for Palace to find a solution, possibly through Textor selling his 43% stake. Wolfie explores what this means for Nottingham Forest's European ambitions, highlighting the improved chances of Nuno Espírito Santo's side stepping up to the Europa League. Could this be Forest's big break to shine on the European stage? Tune in for Wolfie's insights, analysis, and thoughts on how this could shape Forest's season. Join Wolfie and the Grumpy Old Reds panel for a fiery LIVE episode as we dive into the latest Nottingham Forest transfer news! The City Ground is buzzing with the imminent arrival of Botafogo's star trio—Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha, and Cuiabano—with deals reportedly finalised for a combined €30m+ for the striker, centre-back, and left-back. Fresh off Igor Jesus' emotional Instagram farewell to Botafogo and a confirmed contract until 2030, the panel breaks down how these signings could transform Nuno Espírito Santo's squad for the Premier League and Europa Conference League. Join the live chat and share YOUR thoughts on these blockbuster moves! But it's not all good news—Danilo's potential €25m exit to Lyon has hit a snag, with the midfielder unhappy about a clause hinting at a future move to Botafogo, preferring a return to Palmeiras if he goes back to Brazil. Wolfie and the panel dissect this complicated transfer saga, debating whether Forest should cash in on the 24-year-old, who's been a key cog with 62 appearances and six goals, or keep him to maintain squad depth. With Evangelos Marinakis' ties to Lyon and Botafogo owner John Textor driving these deals, is this a financial masterstroke or a risky move? We'll explore how Danilo's departure could impact Forest's midfield and their European ambitions. Plus, we're covering all things transfers, including whispers of a possible Europa League lifeline if Crystal Palace face UEFA ownership issues, and Forest's pursuit of Galatasaray's Barış Alper Yılmaz. Get ready for passionate debates, grumpy rants, and plenty of Forest banter! With talk of three news players heading to Forest, Danilo could be heading out of the City Ground! For Exclusive Content Join FFTV Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ForestFanTV Big news is breaking at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo is reportedly in talks for a £20m move to Ligue 1 side Lyon! The 24-year-old Brazilian, who has made 47 starts and scored six goals since joining Forest in 2023, could be on his way out despite a contract until 2029. Wolfie breaks down whether this deal makes sense for Forest, weighing the profit against losing a talented central midfielder as the club prepares for the Europa Conference League. With owner Evangelos Marinakis' ties to Lyon's owner John Textor potentially smoothing the transfer, is this a smart move to comply with Premier League and UEFA financial rules, or a risky loss for Nuno Espírito Santo's squad? In other explosive news, there's talk of a potential back door entry into the Europa League for Forest! Reports suggest Crystal Palace, who qualified for the Europa League via their FA Cup win, could face expulsion from European competition due to UEFA's multi-club ownership rules, as their part-owner John Textor also owns Botafogo and a stake in Lyon. If Palace are kicked out, Forest, who finished seventh and secured a Conference League spot, could be bumped up to the Europa League. What do YOU think? Is £20m for Danilo a fair deal, or should Forest hold onto their midfield star? And could a surprise Europa League spot change the club's transfer strategy? Drop your thoughts in the comments and join the debate! With Forest's transfer window heating up and European dreams on the line, this is a pivotal moment for the Reds. In this episode of The Lab, we welcome Dan Kilpatrick, former Chief Football Correspondent at the Evening Standard and now newly of The Athletic, for a candid conversation about his career move and a dramatic week in the world of Tottenham Hotspur. As Spurs celebrate a historic Europa League triumph, Dan reflects on his final articles for the Standard, and one piece that drew a sharp public rebuke from manager Ange Postecoglou. We explore the fine line journalists walk when balancing honest critique with the inevitable reaction from those they cover, and ask: was the line between "hero and clown" fair, and why did it provoke such a response? We also dive into the wider questions now facing Spurs. Does European success outweigh domestic underachievement? What does Daniel Levy's silence say about leadership at the club? And will Postecoglou finally get the backing he needs to build a lasting legacy, or is this yet another pivot point destined to end in short-term thinking? Learn more about your ad choices. The season is over, the dust is settling and it's a busy podcast as Niall and Marley digest it all. Chelsea won the champions league shootout at the City Ground, although Gary Neville wasn't there to see it, as Levi Colwill's goal proved the difference to send the Blues into Europe's premier competition. Aston Villa missed out on a second consecutive appearance in the same competition though, as a controversial call in their game against Man United saw Morgan Rogers' goal chalked out. Is there a silver lining for the Villans though? Elsewhere, Spurs lost again, Newcastle rode their luck and we finally discuss the worst Europa League final ever that took place last week. EXCLUSIVE - NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/lwos Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcaster Russ Williams, Patrick Tyrant and David Harris via Irish Hotspur as our 2024/25 Premier League campaign ended on a disappointing note as we suffered a 4-1 home reverse to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. After one of the greatest weeks in the Club's history as we celebrated Europa League success, a difficult league season concluded with another defeat as the visitors hit four unanswered goals in the second half after we'd led at half-time through a Dominic Solanke penalty. The hectic week and long season probably took its toll in the second period as Jack Hinshelwood netted twice, Matt O'Riley converted a penalty and Diego Gomez scored a fine goal in the final minutes to give the Seagulls all three points and ensuring we finished the campaign in 17th place in the table. We reflect on what the campaign means for Ange Postecoglou and his long-term future at the club, with Daniel Levy understood to be presently undecided on whether to stick-or-twist with Postecoglou. EXCLUSIVE - NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/lwos Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Actors Darren Hart, TJ Ramini and Marlon from Spurs Kings TV as Tottenham ended their 17-year wait for a trophy as Brennan Johnson's first-half goal was enough to beat Manchester United in the Europa League final. Victory means head coach Ange Postecoglou has fulfilled a promise to deliver silverware in his second season at Spurs. Postecoglou, who said he would "never be a clown" in his pre-match address, brought smiles and unbridled joy to the faces of the 15,000 official, and many unofficial, Tottenham fans in Bilbao's San Mames Stadium. Victory may not save Postecoglou from a Spurs exit in the coming weeks. But the Australian will leave as a hero after joining Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw in winning a European trophy with the north London giants. In addition to following the lead of Newcastle and Crystal Palace in making this a season of glory for clubs who rarely, if ever, win a trophy, Tottenham are also set to benefit from a £100m windfall after qualifying for next season's Champions League. Marcus, Jim, Andy and Pete look ahead to a truly seismic Europa League final between Man United and Spurs, which boils down to two bald men fighting to the death over a £100m comb. Before that though, we've got a couple of last night's victory laps from Kevin De Bruyne and Crystal Palace to pore over - it seems Omar Marmoush has gladly took up the “smash bangers in from thirty yards” mantle.
