Richard is a former member of the Royal Hong Kong Police. He joined South Yorkshire Police when his contract concluded overseas and when he joined in the UK his role attracted extreme violence. On one fateful day Richard was on a drugs operation and during this operation the suspect died. In the days following the incident Richard was subjected to significant scrutiny and the coroners inquest determined that Richard had done nothing wrong. This experience provided Richard with an overwhelming sense of guilt isolation and gave him suicidal thoughts.Richard subsequently left the police and turned to Academia to fully understand what had taken place. His lived experience makes him best placed to assist others who have been though traumatic experiences. Richard was instrumental in forming the Daparian Foundation and cites Combat stress as being a saviour and motivator. #ptsd #suicideawareness #ptsdsymptoms #ptsdrecovery #truth #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters Hosted on Acast. Habakkuk is interesting as there is no direct message given to the people of Judah. Rather, it is a record of the prophet’s conversation with God. One could even say it is an argument with God. The prophet cries out against the way things have played out in his nation; believing them to be unjust. God replies to the prophet two times, which leads to a response - one of trust. This trust expressed is not because everything is going to work out well or because things are suddenly all better. Not even close. Habakkuk says, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior” (3.17,18). This is the conclusion Habakkuk comes to.

It begs the question what does patience, kindness, joy, humility, honoring others, seeking good for others, not being easily angered, not keeping a record of wrongs, not delighting in evil, rejoicing with the truth, protecting, trusting, hoping and persevering look like in everyday life? If we can begin to form a response to this question we might come close to being those who put hands and feet on the idea of love. While it may seem overwhelming, this long list has two things in common. First, they all describe the Divine. Second, they all insist we place others before self. So, it could be said, the practice of love is to imitate the love we see in Jesus, one who always placed others before himself.

Michael Gettings joins the Marketplace Roundtable Podcast to discuss his investing experience as reflected in his The Easy Vix research service. Gettings developed an algorithm that uses the shape of the VIX futures curve, and the rate of change in the curve, to assess the level of risk in equities markets. The algorithm aims to produce warning signals when risk is emerging, rather than after it has already arrived. The last four months the model has been giving a clear buy signal. More recently, however, "the metrics are tapering down" to right above the bullish threshold, says Gettings. "If I were to see much more deterioration, I would probably call a sell, but it hasn't happened yet." Topics Covered 2:15 - Investing strategy 3:30 - How did you develop your algorithm? 9:00 - What do your models tell us about the present day? 12:40 - A lesson you've learned over time 14:45 - January sell single.. how bad and when will it turn around? 16:45 - What scares you about the market? 18:45 - Something that gives you confidence 21:15 - Leveraged ETFs... more or less risk? 25:00 - Portfolio warning signs/stock picks. If one were to talk about an oppressive systemwe would understand what she was talking about. Systems of oppression and domination are everywhere. This is a helpful way of thinking about the word “world” – it is this system that is against God. The very system we are told not to love. Why? Because of the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life that come from it: three ways of talking about the evil of it. And this is not the first time we have heard this. Jesus, when in the desert for 40 days, was tempted in all three of these ways. His response? To remember who God is and was and trust that. Because, that will never pass away.

This week we explore our mental state of mind, how we reached the point where we have our mean girl voice constantly talking to us, and how to tame it. Dr. Napatia Gettings talks to us about mental health. Seeking aid with our mental health is not a negative, it’s not about fixing something. It’s about being our best self, about being educated, and developing our fullest potential. The thoughts we have on a daily basis causes our emotions: fear, self-doubt, resistance, etc. On a daily basis when we have a self-dialogue, let’s be aware of that dialogue, and choose how we’re going to speak to ourselves. That conversation will be based on our upbringing, but we have the ability to reflect on it and evoke change as to how we speak to ourselves. We can be our own worst enemy. The man vs. woman hierarchy is a system we are living in and is built on comparison. We tend to compare ourselves daily and a way to pull ourselves from that is to accept individuality. We all have shortcomings, and we need to embrace that, and embrace everything that makes us a woman. Many of us don’t even realize the strengths we have. Comparison and the mold Social media plays a huge role in comparison and the mold. It can play a positive or negative role as to how we see ourselves. It h as thrown a huge curveball. We struggle with self-perception, but we don’t’ just compare ourselves to people at school anymore. It’s all day long. Adolescents place a lot of value on the expectation of what they should look like, and social media has created a huge avenue for bullying. Dr. Getting’s Social Media Best Practices Guide was created to help parents with the use of their children’s social media and help them navigate this through it. Young adults, and older people are also affected by what we see on social media and needs to be used responsibly and to our benefit, because it could be a positive thing too. Who doesn’t love to reconnect with grammar school friend?!! Tips for Breaking The Comparison Challenge We need to understand judgement, and adopt healthy perceptions about others. Dr. Gettings runs a conversation she calls Are you full of BS? What is your Belief System like? We judge others based on our own perception of ourselves!! This is huge! You are writing your own life story. What do you want it to say? What is that you’re grateful for? Put your intention to that. Visualize being in a room full of people and list the things you would hate to tell them about yourself. What are you ashamed of and why? How did it become an item of shame? Shaming and not being able to own your truth will completely clog your conscience. People take their lives over misperceptions. FSLers, let’s empower one another and build up each other’s strengths, so that we too can see and love the strengths and beautiful characteristics we bring to the table. In February, the World Health Organization (WHO) took the rare step of declaring an international public health emergency in connection with the spread of the Zika virus. Over the last year, the mosquito-borne illness has become endemic throughout the Caribbean and in many parts of Latin America. The Zika virus which is spread primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. In this episode Adam talks to Peter Gettings (aka "The Librarian"), an MSK physio and sonographer, about ultrasound. Not the "Is it even plugged in, rub it on my skin, and make it feel better" type of ultrasound, rather the "Rub it on my skin and look inside me, and then make me feel better" type of ultrasound. They also talk about issues with peer review and access to research for some, and of course the dinosaurs get mentioned… again! The Ultrasound Website mentioned is www.theultrasoundsite.co.uk.
MEAT....is murder! Frankfurt/Main in the very early nineties. What wannabe-philosophers from today’s capital of Germany years later polemized as the „Raving Revolution“, was just under way. However the Hessians preferred to party in Clubs like the Omen and Dorian Gray or organized small illegal open air parties out in the woods rather than giving advantage to gigantic industrial ruins. An innocent naiv era that still today is inspiring. It’s mind child is Carsten Schuchmann alias DJ Meat. Affected by countless Frankfurt-nights since 1990 and finally persuaded in summer 1991 through the mythical love parade Meat became one of the signboards of the city of capital. Gettings his merits on playing on unlawful parties in closed motorway service areas, ruins of houses and under bridges he emerged from a backyard-DJ to a real professional. Meat is the weight-bearing column under the famous Freebase Records shop. Founded in 1994, the store swung soon itself from a small backyard shop up to the prime address and since then it belongs to the irrefutable constants in this unstable business even far beyond Germany and the electronic scene. A few years later Meat compiled the splendid "ELECTRO FIELDS" CD for the Hamburg Density label and founded the in-house label Below which deals with everything in-between House, experimental electronic and minimal attempts. In these interfaces DJ Meat also finds himself. Equipped with old-school-traits he has both, the forever sharped blades of the past days plus an undelusive instinct for essential novelties. With his mother’s milk he sucked in Straighten Techno and the basics of Chicago and Detroit which goe perfectly together with the minimized housy sounds of nowadays. This load of craftsmanship doesn’t remain without consequences. Meat was one of the style guiding resident DJs at the earliest incarnation of the Frankfurt down town club “Monza” and jointly responsible for the legendary nimbus of this place. From there on he grooved Sven Väth’s colossal future vision “Cocoon”as a resident before he initiated together with selcted guests and freebase staff the monthly “Freebase Night” at holy Robert-Johnson Club. Up till now his steady home base in the Rhein-Main-area. Besides, the passionate socker fan (who else would place a TV in his record shop during the world championship) hops around throughout Europe with growing success. On one of those trips someone might have sold him an extra power-battery that provides him with surplus supernatural energy. Plus all these activities as a DJ, label generator and record shop owner he recently doesn’t only buy special and world’s best records but produces them by himself. Together with Einzelkind he released the smashing first productions “Meat is Murder EP” and a worthy successor called “Words from The Frontline” on the well known label "Get Physical". Next stop in his producer career was the very succeefull "La Pena" label where he released with Einzelkind together. After a couple of tracks on various compilations Meat and some remix works he did some collaborations with "Reboot" as the remix project "Lakeof" and with his new studio partner Chris Wood with whom he released 2009 two Ep's on his own label Below and Kindisch. (check out the Discography or http://www.discogs.com/artist/Meat ) 2010 will pop up with a new ep of the duo infernale Meat & Chris Wood called "Back Down Ep" which will be out end of february 2010 on the london based label Murmur. After a relaxed summer and a couple Remixes for Jacuzzi Boys and some other well known Artists , Meat & Wood are back on the homeprint Label Below with their VH2010 ep. And if this wouldn't be enough he started in 2010 with the Frrebase Radio every 1st and 3rd friday each month on BigCityBeats (http://www.bigcitybeats.de/ )whith a lots of interested guests and music. ....a tasty tasty murder!!! CHRIS WOOD Deeply influenced by the Frankfurt sound of the early 90s, Chris Wood’s interaction with electronic music quickly developed from passion to profession. It is via his work at Delirium Frankfurt Record Store and the “Delirium House Division” that had developed from it, that Chris suddenly became one of the sought-after Frankfurt Locals. After completing his studies as audio engineer, Chris Wood got to know the DJ and producer, Pascal FEOS, and started working for his network, GEM/Elektrolux.Since 2003 Chris was working as label manager for levelNONzero, the label wich was founded by Pascal Feos. Since then there is almost no club in the Rhein-Main-Area which did not rock to his combination of Deephouse, Techhouse and minimal Techno. Since 2004 Chris proceeds also as successful producer and remixer. By now, there are a couple of numerous releases and remixes under his hand. He released for example on labels like Souvenir, Below, Kindisch, MurMur, be_chosen or levelNONzero. (look up discogs) 2009 Chris started working with his friend Meat (Carsten Schuchmann) from Freebase Records Frankfurt. Since then they released a couple of tracks and remixes on different labels and they DJ a lot together at clubs around europe. There last EP on Souvenir records was played by big names like Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler and many more. Since 2012 Chris and Meat run the store Freebase Records together. Across his long time residency at Monza he became well known beyond Frankfurt borders and has played his sets at national and international clubs and events such as Penelopé and Space (Ibiza), Robert Johnson (Offenbach), Kristal (Rumania), Coccon Club (Frankfurt), Harry Klein (Munich), Rave on Snow (Austria) a.o.
Inspired by Scott Johnson's "Diary of a Cartoonist" podcast, I'm trying out the ol' podcasting + driving combo. The quality is variable as I basically describe my commute home with some heated observations of the other road users around me. The music has been provided by my car's stereo and I apologise for my brief singing. Anyways, it was a fun experiment which I may do again.ENJOY!iTunes link[MP3] Download the episode [27:44] (Right click, Save as)
It's been a long time, but boy! is this a long one.I'm been playing catch up with a number of video game reviews/thoughts/rants for ages, so I thought it'd be a cool idea to catch up in podcast form.Featured games are: Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, some afterthoughts on GTA IV after I finally completed it, Flower - the big game in a small package and closing off with some rather in-depth thoughts on Fable 2.It's a double-edged sword as it seems unfair to try and squeeze it all into one, so I've broken into two parts, so apologies for the formal goodbye, I'll make it up next time.As mentioned during the podcast, I may have forgotten some major pros/cons of a game so don't shun me for this being done on the spot - for the information that has been included, I've tried to be careful but there are some spoilers within, you have been warned. Enjoy.Featured Music:Intro/Outro - Pacific Theatre - Yourcodenameis:miloWhen We Were Younger and Better, A Failsafe, Music is Music as Devices are Kisses is Everything, Little Victories - all by 65daysofstatic.The Birth and Death of the Day, Welcome, Ghosts, It's Natural To Be Afraid, What Do You Go Home To, Catastrophe And The Cure- Explosions in the SkyQuiet, There Are Some Remedies Worse Than the Disease - This Will Destroy You iTunes link[MP3] Download the show [51:33] (Right click, Save as)
And so a podcast is born. Yes, episode #1 of Your New Favourite Podcast is finally out! This first one is a little rough round the edges plus it's my first go at editing out all my "umms" etc but I'm just happy to get it out the door - I've been promising it for a long time.Topics covered include some admin, quick mention to some upcoming reviews and a healthy rant about recruitment agencies and the the interview process, while I play Civilization Revolution - link to my review as mentioned in the podcast/audioblog.As to the frequency of these, I've yet to make my mind up but expect the next one in a couple a weeks as I'm pretty busy (but not too busy as to play games and record my angry thoughts seemingly...)For now, enjoy, leave comments, feedback or even topics/questions you want me to throw my two cents at.Featured Music:Intro/Outro - Pacific Theatre - Yourcodenameis:miloWhen We Were Younger and Better, A Failsafe, Music is Music as Devices are Kisses is Everything, Little Victories - all by 65daysofstatic. iTunes link[MP3] Download the show (21:38) (Right click, Save as)
Further to our recent conversation, please find included a recording of one of the Wilson's Corner shows we did way back when on Raw, the student radio station at Warwick.Anyways, enough of that semi-professional talk, I've uploaded this and added it here, to help test out the feed, make sure it's all working. Once the feed is sorted, I'll submit it to iTunes and then that will pave the way to future episodes of Your New Favourite Podcast. The blog is being put on hold until I can get this all sorted, at the moment I'm checking out some podsafe music to use in the podcast, and at the time of posting I had recorded some stuff for episode zero (a whole 10mins worth!), but listening back to some of it, it does need some polish, I obviously need to get a little better at directing a monologue at my monitor.Watch this space for further YNFP announcements...[MP3] Download the show (Right click, Save as)
