When you hear Level-Up, your first thought would be Ciara, but  today I’m here to introduce to you a movement for cycling spearheaded by an entrepreneur named Erica with the same name. Erica Davis, a long-time enthusiast of Cycling, is here today to tell us how she built-- the Level Up Cycling Movement. With a background in business management and entrepreneurship, Erica is no stranger to the dedication and time needed to make the dream work. With her skills now combined with passion, her movement has gained traction for it’s openness and inclusivity for minorities-- striving to ensure that all are welcome in such a white-dominated sport. Be sure to hit that play button to listen to Erica’s inspiring movement. Episode Highlights: How Erica started cyclingErica’s first group in cycling The culture of cycling clubs How Erica becoming the first black cycling agent Why she started ChocLIT Pedals Guest Bio: Erica Davis, a Florida native, is far more than the average entrepreneur. With a bachelor's degree in business management and a minor in entrepreneurship, she started her career in banking. In addition to her numerous professional titles, she started consulting and began to fund new ventures. She further integrated financial health and wisdom to the home by developing a financial education program for all, which was adopted by Community Redevelopment Agencies. Her program taught inner city residents and families how to use credit and banking to form a sustainable lifestyle.  It is of no surprise although she started cycling as a leisure activity, quickly  she developed  a charge to do her part for all to have access to cycling, on all levels. The deficiency of diversity amongst groups and club rides as well as organized events caused Erica to ask hard questions, research and conclude the sport she had grown to love, had a void in representation. With determination in tow, she launched and serves as President of Level Up Cycling Movement, Inc., a non profit organization and nationwide movement dedicated to introducing the health benefits of cycling to minority communities as well as to create a clear path to Professional cycling at the highest level. Inspired by hard working, talented young racers with big dreams to become professional cyclists, Erica knew the mission of Level Up was not, in itself, enough In 2019 she became the first black female (maybe first black ever) UCI Professional Rider Agent. This prestigious achievement allows her sports company, Shine World Sports, to sign, recruit, promote and place riders in jobs that expand across the world. Immediately thereafter, she facilitated the process for one of those aspiring young cyclists to become the first woman of color to race for a International Professional Women’s team,  at the world level.  In partnership with the Williams Brothers of Legion of LA, she  launched Miami Blazrs, a national Elite Men’s Race team with the goal to provide equal access to high level American racing. Erica also created and launched ChocLIT Pedals, a women’s ride experience, providing a safe place to nurture, appreciate and celebrate women who seek out the tools of cycling in order to transform their lives and the lives of their families.  In all that she does, Erica’s mission is to create space and culture for minorities in the sport of cycling because she understands each bike ride can save a life. She hopes to encourage, not only women, but also youth of color and other minority groups as they discover their passion, and take their first step onto the path of fulfillment, gaining the happiness and success they deserve.  Links Related to the Episode:   Instagram Erica Elle | @_ericaelle Instagram Level Up Cycling Movement | @levelup_cyclingmovement Level Up Cycling Movement  Did you enjoy today’s episode? Erica Jago is a yoga teacher and graphic designer. She is fearless in her love for yoga and passionate about communication design. Through her signature illustrations of yoga poses, called Asanaglyphs, she found a union between the two. With over 18 years of experience in designing books, she self-published her first book, Art of Attention, ranked #1 on Amazon for design, now translated into six languages, and graphically designed Oprah Winfrey’s The Wisdom of Sundays.    After the making of Art of Attention, chakra studies helped her heal an addiction she had been battling for 25 years. Since then,  she started helping others embrace their beauty to impact those they love. For the pasts ten years, Erica gathered over 300 women and men from more than 42 countries for week-long retreats to study one chakra at a time.   In these retreats, Erica uses her background as a kundalini and vinyasa trained teacher, as well as her experience as a designer to introduce a new methodology—combining storytelling with emotionally connected yoga, visionary art, and nature—to inspire inner knowing, spiritual care and interconnectedness.   For Angelus, her second book, Erica developed 21 yoga sequences, all illustrated with Asanaglyphs. Not only is she the spiritual mastermind behind the book; she also designed the book graphically.    In This Episode We Talk About: Erica's personal journey that led her to find yoga. How Erica teaches ancient wisdom in a modern and personal way. How she received the download for her book Angelus. Kundalini yoga and how it can be beneficial for your life. The chakra system and how this energetic technology helps us to bring our visions into reality. The spiritual practices she used to manifest her book and her non-spiritual practices. Erica Mackey is a mom on a mission. In this “Lesson on Self-Assurance”, the CEO, and Co-Founder talks founding MyVillage—a company training an army of women entrepreneurs to run their own businesses--raising six million from impact investors and her solutions for the broken, messy problem of childcare in America. If you’re a mom who was told to get on the childcare waitlist while you were still pregnant, this episode is for you. Why the average American mom can’t '“stay-at-home”. What is My Village? Why/how was it founded? What do being humble and “being the rock” have to do with it? How role models like Finland’s Sanna Marin, New Zealand’s Jacinda Arden, and Senator Tammy Duckworth are changing the conversation. Obstacles that women face as working mothers around an unconscious bias. Creating a really powerful on-the-ground community that supports each other. "Why are women expected to work like they don’t have children and mother like they don’t work?" Why aren't childcare providers able to be written off in the same way that other employees are? How Erica’s confidence and passion attracted investors to her business. Women raise on 2.8% of venture capital. How did Mackey raise 250 million and 6 million for her ventures? What is an Impact Investor? Do women lead differently? #LESSONUP: (8:03) We're using a lot of principles that are out there around child centered, child led, play-based programming. But we are doing it in a way that we really help people thrive in their first six to 12 months of running a home based business. (12:54) We're seeing so many more women right in this moment, I think of Jacinda Arden who brings her baby to the UN general assembly for the first time ever. Who's out there breastfeeding. Finland's female prime minister who's the youngest female prime minister in the world and she posts selfies breastfeeding. And then Tammy Duckworth, she got caught on her zoom call saying “ you're going potty mommy will be there in a second.” She told it to the whole democratic caucus, which I thought was hilarious and I personally, I love this. (14:49) That boundary between personal and professional as you start framing it, you can't be the best and exclude the other side. (15:52) We're still having this conversation in the United States, strangely about women who work and should women be allowed to work where you should be at home with your children. And there's still this kind of unconscious bias and this push-pull a lot of the times still between moms who work and moms who don't about what is best for children. (17:34) I think in the world that we're in now where unemployment is going to be a major issue and flexibility around employment and trying to make all of the puzzle pieces work in a way that don't. It's going to have to be at the forefront and the political conversation. (19:00) I built that business over seven years. I was COO and built a thousand person team. We raised about 250 million over the course while I was there to scale the business and at the point that I moved back to the States, we were selling about 10,000 houses a month. (19:53) Focus on solving important problems. And I think that's where a lot of my confidence as an entrepreneur comes from and how you present the opportunity, how you work your way through your network to get to the right conversations at the right time. (20:42) Having a strong conviction to the problem and a true deep passion for wanting solve it I think is always been a successful first step for me. (21:27) I was very specific about picking impact investors for our initial round. Impact investors are really mission-aligned, so they're looking for a double, triple bottom line business. Some of them are environment, profit, people-focused. Some of them are just people profit-focused, so they want a return. But they really understand that the best impact that can be made in a society is usually in a really complex system. (23:20) It's more of a place of leading from self-assurance. If I have doubt about the direction, it's anchored in a place where I'm sure we will get to a solution on the other side. (26:24) Feminine leadership will often will make you much more successful in the connection and coming from a good place, coming from a place of support, which then I think as long as you're delivering the directness, on the other axis at the same time where you're really able to not get hung up by worrying so much about people, how it's going to land, and where it's coming from. A true, honest place. I think that women, in general, are much better at getting that balance. (28:59) This is about creating an army of small female entrepreneurs that are going to change the world but just really tackle the childcare crisis on their own.

Erica Paolicelli is a Partner at Three Brothers Wineries & Estates and War Horse Brewing Company located in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Erica joined the company in 2007, before it opened its doors and helped grow the destination and brand which now sees 150,000+ visitors annually, has distribution regionally to over 300 locations, and employs 150 full and part-time employees. The campus at Three Brothers houses Iron Heart Coffee Company, a café serving lunch (and soon to be dinners) daily and also hosts private events. Erica is a strategic planner, marketer and brand builder at heart with a keen business sense. She serves on several regional boards including the IDA, the NY Wine Industry Association, the Finger Lakes Community College Advisory Board, and Geneva Community Projects. Together with her colleagues, Erica is one of the founders of the successful Rose Soiree held annually in downtown Geneva which has raised $30k in funds donated to local community organizations. Erica is a firm believer that the rising tide raises all ships and she thinks it’s her calling to inspire collaboration within her community to help the Finger Lakes continue to be recognized as a premier destination on a global scale. In this episode of Destination on the Left, Erica Paolicelli, Partner at Three Brothers Wineries and Estates and War Horse Brewing Co., explains how she and her team are responding to the current coronavirus pandemic. She discusses the creative solutions they thought up and implemented since the shelter-in-place and social distancing restrictions have gone into effect. And she talks about the unique visitor experiences that make Three Brothers Winery a destination in and of itself! What You Will Learn in This Episode: Why Three Brothers Winery is a destination in and of itself Why the experiences offered at Three Brothers Winery are unlike any other wineries in the country How Three Brothers is developing products like their new wine spritzer to accommodate curbside pickup and delivery Why Three Brothers decided to lean into their online presence in response to the global pandemic How Erica and her team are responding to the current coronavirus pandemic Creative solutions that Three Brothers has thought of and implemented since the shelter-in-place and social distancing restrictions have gone into effect How Three Brothers is using old school communication techniques to garner support from the local community The Ultimate East Coast Wine Destination Erica Paolicelli is a Partner at Three Brothers Wineries & Estates and War Horse Brewing Company located in the heart of the Finger Lakes region in New York State. In our discussion, Erica shares so many creative ideas about how to navigate the coronavirus pandemic in the travel and tourism industry. Erica and her team have thought up and implemented innovative solutions in response to the shelter-in-place and social distancing restrictions have gone into effect. And their ability to use creativity and collaboration is one of the many reasons Three Brothers Winery is a destination in and of itself! Rally Around a Vision Erica started with Three Brothers as an intern before the winery was anything like it is today. Over time, she moved from $15/hour to a 1% share in the company and, eventually, she started buying stock as well. Erica became a partner because she believes in Dave Mansfield’s vision, and that vision made Three Brothers what it is today. It is no small task for a leader to energize people around their vision or to keep their ego out of the mix. Dave did both, and his ability to see what Three Brothers could become combined with Erica’s drive and ability to execute led Three Brothers to become one of the top wineries in the Finger Lakes region. Use Creativity to Open New Streams of Revenue The Three Brothers campus has three wineries and a brewery, each with an entirely unique experience from shopping to food and entertainment—it is Disney World for adults. The creativity that makes Three Brothers a destination has also helped them navigate the coronavirus pandemic. Luckily, they have been deemed an essential business because they are a beverage manufacturer, but the tasting rooms and communal spaces have been shut down. They decided to lean into their online presence to engage their current audience to drum up excitement for future events. They are generating long-form content to add value to their customers and give their readers something to look forward to. They are even doing wine slushies to-go which has driven pick-up orders significantly, and they added merchandise to the website. Coupled with a push for real conversations between Three Brothers leadership and their clientele, Erica and her team have seen an outpour of support from the local community and wine lovers all over. Choosing healthier food options is something we should all be doing for our well-being and long term health. Sometimes, however, products labeled as “healthy” can contain hidden ingredients which aren’t so good for you.  When Erica Liu Williams noticed that there was a lack of “clean” label granola available on the market, she took matters into her own hands and decided to create her own. Erica is a former techie and Olympic Trials swimmer, entrepreneur, food lover, and self-proclaimed “health nut”. She is passionate about health and set out to create a healthy, great-tasting granola which met her dietary needs. This week Erica joins G. Steven Cleere to talk about the meteoric rise of Erica’s Gr8nola granola, how she dealt with the rapid growth of her company, and what the future may bring for the Gr8nola brand.   Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn:  [2:27] The origin of the product and company of Gr8nola [3:20] What is meant by “clean” ingredients [5:11] The move to food service via supplying tech companies [6:25] How Erica got connected to Google [8:25] How Gr8nola handled the challenges of production during early growth [15:20] The difficulties of approaching distributors  [21:25] Pricing product and the pains of early growth [27:15] Erica’s experience selling on Amazon [34:02] Tips from Erica for those starting their journey into food [39:38] What’s next for the Gr8nola brand   Subscribe and Listen on: iTunes   Resources Mentioned in this episode Gr8nola.com Erica Liu Williams LinkedIn   Connect with Steve Kitchen 2 Shelf  About Me NexxtLevel Marketing

Infertility, pregnancy loss, infant and maternal mortality----none of these are topics that we enjoy talking about, but the number of women and families affected by these obstacles is astounding. For African-American women, there is a stigma attached to these issues, and the compounding problem of their voices not being heard.Today’s show addresses these topics and more in honor of October being Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.   Erica McAfee is the founder of Sisters in Loss, LLC, a faith-based grief and pregnancy loss coaching company that helps black women turn their pain into purpose after loss.   Sisters in Loss provides consulting and coaching services to help women step beyond anxiety and fear into trust and peace after loss. The Sisters In Loss goal through courses, retreats, and conferences is to help women minimize regrets, maximize memories, and manage their path forward after loss. Their self-titled podcast spotlights faith-filled black women who share miscarriage, infant loss, and infertility stories and testimonies to heal, gain clarity and peace, find hope, and become victorious after loss. Launched in August 2017, the podcast has a community of 5000+ Sisters in Loss.   Erica is a Grief and Pregnancy Loss coach, pastor’s wife, and Mom to two angels in heaven and one rainbow baby, Maxwell, also known as Super Mighty Max. She is an alumnus of Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a BS degree in Chemical Engineering.   Show Highlights:   How Erica found podcasts a few years ago when she had a long commute to work each day, but she couldn’t find one that told the stories that aligned with what she and her friends had experienced with traumatic loss The year-old podcast shares weekly stories of real women of color and how faith helps them gain clarity, peace, and learning Erica’s coaching work with those still early in their loss experience or those in pregnancy after loss How loss affects everyone around you How the podcast helps African-American women know what questions to ask their medical professionals, no matter where they are in their journey to parenthood The example set by celebrities recently who have shared their pregnancy and birth stories The power of storytelling in healing the pain of loss How the podcast helps support women through the grieving process by building a community Seeing success stories of others helps people in their personal experiences How Erica and her guests share their faith on the podcast and the role faith plays in the journey to healing How the podcast gives scripture, tools, and resources for support How some people going through loss cling to faith and others push it away Sometimes the grieving process isn’t “over and done” and we tend to shove those feelings down because we feel guilty holding onto them What we should know about supporting women of color through loss: Maternal and infant mortality is an issue that African-American women face 3-4 times more than other races Why black women are not taken seriously by their medical providers and their voices aren’t being heard Erica’s message to friends and family of those who have lost: Continue to check on loved ones who have gone through loss, because they may have deep, dark moments. Be a listening ear for your loved ones. Erica Blocker, MA, CPC, is a bestselling author, educator, Success Strategist, CEO of Moms With Dreams University, inspirational speaker, and host of the Moms With Dreams podcast. Erica teaches women how to pursue their passion, discover their purpose, and do what they love in the midst of a busy life, motherhood, and a career without feeling guilty or selfish. She believes that you can create anything you want in your life when you know what you want and are willing to go after it. Her mantra is: Reclaim your dream. Do what you love. Make a difference. TWEET: Talking to @Momswithdreams - “This was my chance to start over and rewrite my story.” Listen in! Challenged by Motherhood: Are you a busy mom who feels guilty for having your own dreams? Erica shares her personal story of being a teen mom who thought she might never have the chance to do what she wanted to do. After a bad divorce, she felt that she had been so entrenched in the roles of wife and mother that she had totally lost her sense of self. She calls it her “re-self-discovery” when she figured out what she wanted to do with her life, and she knows many moms are going through the same thing. If you feel challenged by motherhood, you don’t want to miss Erica’s message to YOU! TWEET: “Track your time to find time blocks to reallocate to your #dream.” @Momswithdreams Balance and Self-Care: Do you sometimes feel worn out, depleted, and like there is NOTHING left in your tank? We all have times when we feel this way, but you can change your situation! Like most moms, Erica struggled with balance in her life as she tried to be the “perfect” mom. She finally realized that she had to take care of herself first, and that self-care HAD to become a priority. Listen to her advice about tracking and reallocating your time each week to find time for YOU! TWEET: “If I’m empty, then I have nothing left to give.” #Momadvice @Momswithdreams   A Holistic Approach to Motherhood: Don’t we all want someone who understands and has solutions to our problems? Part of the problems most moms face is feeling alone, like no one else is going through what we are. The reality is that moms across different countries and cultures all struggle with the same motherhood issues! Erica offers support for all moms and all challenges through Moms With Dreams University. The courses provide a holistic approach to personal and professional development so you CAN move forward in motherhood and in chasing your dreams. NO dream is too big! Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take—“ Get clear on what YOU really want. Don’t make it about anyone else but you.
