"Bitch, are you for real?" The second blaxploitation discuss with our guest this week is another classic from Rudy Ray Moore. It's the sequel to Dolemite, it's The Human Tornado.
Boston Globe movie critic ODIE HENDERSON joins us to talk about his new book, BLACK CAESARS AND FOXY CLEOPATRAS: A HISTORY OF BLAXPLOITATION. For this, Odie has programmed two equally stony but very different examples of the film movement that further funkified the 1970s. First, Shakespearean actor William Marshall brings dignity and pathos to the title character of the horror classic, BLACULA from American International Pictures in 1972. (Where would this podcast be without AIP???) We debate how to pronounce the name of BLACULA costar Thalmus Rasulala and Odie explains why Count Dracula is a redneck. Blaxploitation musical interludes, cool Los Angeles locations, and just how scary this classical horror movie really is are also discussed at length. Then Odie chooses the strangest and trippiest Blaxploitation movie of all time for our B-feature with DARKTOWN STRUTTERS (1975), and yes, Bob concedes that it's even weirder than HUMAN TORNADO!!! Which means is pretty f--in weird, stoners. You will want to be high AF for this sci-fi, funk, disco, biker-babe slapstick comedy all mixed together with subversive social satire. It melted all of our minds so bad that we don't even know what movies are going to be in our next episode! The ancestors were definitely telling the filmmakers how much spice to put into this one, and it was a lot. We went long for this episode so it violates our unwritten rule that no episode of OMFYS should be longer than a b-movie, but Odie has a lot to say and all of it was terrific and deep. What do you cut out? NOTHING! In our extended opening segment, Odie explains his personal connection to Blaxploitation and recalls trips to the grind houses of New York's 42nd Street (the Deuce) during his childhood. We also got a great fan letter from Larry Clow and Cory and Odie give him awesome ideas of things to do during his upcoming trip to Los Angeles. Thank you writing to us Larry! After all my years in the biz, I've learned that people want excessively long gaps between episodes of podcasts. With that, I bring you episode 7 on the most efficient TV-based wrestling promotion of all time, Wrestling Society X. This episode I'm once again joined by Pizza Party commentator, former co-host of Sports Entertainment Shrinks, and all-around good dude: Andrew aka @VerbGagne on Twitter. We talk about all the stars, Human Tornado, Lizzie Valentine, Youth Suicide, and Quiet Riot. We discuss the trials and tribulations of love. FOLLOW ON TWITTER: @verbgagne and @wdkwpn

The Human Tornado | Disco Godfather - Hey everyone! Welcome to another episode of Motion Picture Meltdown! We're continuing our MPM Black History Month with a couple classic Rudy Ray Moore Blaxsploitation movies. This week, we roast through The Human Tornado and Disco Godfather. You'll hear us talk about our favorite drug
There's a storm warning in effect for the podcast this week, because Cooper and Nolan are getting all twisted up in THE HUMAN TORNADO! If you like ridiculous outfits, amateur Kung Fu fighting, gratuitous nudity, instant replays, and watching rat soup-eatin' m*********ers get what they deserve, then you'll understand why this was the perfect choice for our first ever blaxploitation movie - one that even an unfortunate beer connection can't ruin. (Which is definitely NOT a slight against the fine folks at Outlaw Brew Co.) Grab on to something sturdy, because this episode might just blow you away!
This special episode is all five episodes of our Wrestling Society X put into one. MTV's Wrestling Society X ran for 10 episodes in early 2007 before being canceled. We are going where very few, if any, podcasts have been before. We are covering the first two episodes of Wrestling Society X!WSX was a short lived promotion that ran a 10 episode season on MTV in 2007. The underground wrestling feel was unique and the addition of a musical act to the shows could have been a great idea. There are a bunch of young and talented wrestlers in WSX including Jack Evans, Matt Sydal, Human Tornado, Tyler Black, Teddy Hart, Matt Cross and Jimmy Jacobs. We even have the return of fashion watch icon Aaron Aguilera fka Jesus in WWE!This interesting concept is one of our favorite topics that we've covered. We hope you enjoy it!Follow us and please leave a five star review!Twitter - @StrangerRings1IG - @StrangerRingsPodFacebook - Stranger Rings Podcast

A tal punto da avere due sequel, The Human Tornado (1976) e The Return of Dolemite (2002), e un quasi-sequel, Shaolin Dolemite.
Human Tornado has been in nearly 500 professional wrestling matches all over the world. He has competed in PWG, CZE, GCW, ROH, DragonGate, Wrestling Society X, and a lot more. On this episode Human Tornado tells us about his start in Southern California, teaming with El Generico (Sami Zayn) in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and calling themselves 2 Skinny Black Guys, how he came up with the character of a break dancing pimp, having a role in the movie Nacho Libre as El Snowflake, and settles the argument on who came up with the invincible crotch gimmick, him or Joey Ryan. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

On this edition of Parallax Views, Eddie Murphy has made a much anticipated and critically-acclaimed comeback in the form of Dolemite is My Name, a Netflix-produced biopic of the legendary black comic Rudy Ray Moore. Known as "The King of the Party Records" and "The Godfather of Rap", Rudy Ray Moore, through his kung fu fighting, rappin' and tappin, anti-establishment alter ego Dolemite and various other characters, overcame all odds in the often fickle world of showbiz to entertain audiences with his bawdy, risque-brand of humor. From his comedy albums like Eat Out More Often to his cult classic movies like Dolemite, The Human Tornado, and Petey Wheatstraw, Rudy Ray Moore, despite unfortunately passing away in 2008, lives on in the pantheon of pop culture. His films have been name-checked by such respected and directors as Quentin Tarantino and John Landis. And rappers, specifically and most notably Snoop Dogg, have cited him as a major influence. His diverse fanbase even extends to such figures as Miriam Linna, a founding member of the psychobilly punk band The Cramps, and the notorious juggalo hip hop duo The Insane Clown Posse, who featured Moore, reprising his famous role of Dolemite, in their movie Big Money Hustlas. In other words, Rudy Ray Moore has earned his keep as an iconic figure and Dolemite is My Name serves long-overdue, fitting tribute to the man, the myth, and the legend. Rudy Ray Moore as "Dolemite" Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore in Dolemite is My Name Joining us on this edition of Parallax Views to discuss Dolemite is My Name, Rudy Ray Moore, and black cinema are returning guest Brian Shaughnessy and Casey Gane-McCalla, also known as the rapper "The Mighty Casey" and the author of Inside the CIA's Secret War in Jamaica. Among the topics discussed are our initial thoughts on Dolemite is My Name. We chat about Eddie Murphy's comeback and the ensemble cast that supports him in the movie including Keegan Michael-Peele, Craig Robinson, Chris Rock, and Wesley Snipes. Additionally, we delve into the world of blaxploitation movies from which Rudy Ray Moore, as his alter ego Dolemite, became a star. In particular we reference such films as the Wayans Brothers parody of the genre I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, the films of Mario and Melvin Van Peebles, and, of course, Dolemite. And, in the final portion of our conversation, we discuss the current state of black cinema with the popularity of hit movies like Marvel's Black Panther and Jordan Peele's Get Out. Oh yeah, it's been too long since we talked about a Dolemite movie and with the new one about to hit Netflix soon, it was time to go back! The Human Tornado is the second Dolemite movie and it's a whole lot crazier than the first. This episode also features another segment of "P's Corner," we discuss a fear we both had growing up and PJ has a revelation about grenades! We hope you enjoy the show. Dolomite emerges in a reboot of the character that is aware he is in a film and draws attention to that fact throughout the runtime. The film has moments of meta fourth wall breaks as well as constant camera winks and laughably bad martial arts and sex scenes. Sprinkle this with a heavy spice of Moore’s live act as well as other musical performances and we have what Cort declares as his favorite of the two so far. Summer Sequel month continues with Rudy Ray Moore's followup to Dolemite (Episode 21 of the Grindbin). A movie that's less a sequel and more a re-imagining of the first movie. Dolemite brings down the Mob and a group of racist cops while providing plenty of patented Dolemite one-liners along the way. Human Tornado is an amazing movie and a worthy follow-up to the classic Dolemite.
Hey everyone! We are back at it with our look at the films of Rudy Ray Moore! This week we are looking at The Human Tornado. Thanks!
On this bonus episode Chris thought he was throwing a softball to his friends, the cult classic Dolemite. A recognizable so bad it is good staple, right? Well, not so fast. Mad Dragon & Spike Matthews have less than flattering things to say about Dolemite. Perhaps this is why they’re not using their real names? Of course, there are few characters in the film that have real names. We’re looking at you Creeper. What is this PMOG? Michael Keaton, Pierce Brosnan & Tom Baker walk into a bar… There’s a sequel? Yup. The Human Tornado. Who is Dolemite? Rudy Ray Moore. Spike thinks one of the cops looks like John Cleese. Spike also wonders if Shatner attended the same acting school as the folks in this film. Our reviewers have issues understanding English while discussing Jet Li, so Mad suggests we talk in Greek. Spike says anybody who thinks early Doctor Who sets & props are rough, should have a look at this film. Spike says that every time some says “Dolemite,” he hears catamite and sets the tone. Dolemite looks like Simon Cowell with his high-waist pants. Sorry, it’s a sign of your age. Spike wonders if one of Dolemite’s girls is a Mohel? Instead of a Dolemite sex scene, Mad would rather watch Twilight. Mad compares the gun play in Dolemite to the lack of anyone getting shot in Star Wars. Hash tag: #DolemiteShotFirst Mad wonders who is the audience for a Blaxploitation film. Mad schools everyone in The Quiet Man, “a perception of an ethnic group by people who have no connection with the culture.” Mad says a better film to watch would be Blazing Saddles. Lip sync is terrible in the film and it reminds Spike of Top of the Pops. He mentions the “Martha’s Harbour” incident. Dolemite performs The Signifying Monkey. How big is Dolemite’s bow tie? Here’s an estimate. Chris wonders why kung fu is so terrible in the early movies, like The Octagon. Our reviewers debate the loyalty of the club employees much like the Deathstar contractors discussion in Clerks. If your name is Spike and you want the Dolemite soundtrack. Chris says the kung fu in this film is like watching marionettes do the Matrix. It reminds Spike of Joe 90. That John Cleese cop looks like Kriss Kross with his backward jeans. The Mad TV “Dolemite” sketch. Mad recommends Tangerines. Spike suggests that you watch Spirited Away. Thanks so much for listening! We really appreciate it. We also love feedback, so let us know how we’re doing on twitter or iTunes. We’d love to hear from you. Support Film Frown on Patreon
