This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit public.substack.comGoogle CEO Sundar Pichai today addressed the public upset with its AI chatbot, Gemini, for its political bias. “I want to address the recent issues with problematic text and image responses in the Gemini app (formerly Bard),” he wrote. I know that some of its responses have offended our users and shown bias—to be clear, that's completely unacceptable, and we got it wrong.”But Google's bias has been on public display since August 2017, when Pichai fired a Google employee named James Damore for writing a ten-page memo criticizing the company's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, particularly its “Bias-Busting” training. And the partisan bias of Google was expressed a few days after voters elected Donald Trump as president during an “all hands” employee meeting. “It's been an extraordinarily stressful time for many of you,” Pichai said to Google employees. “I certainly find this election deeply offensive,” said Google cofounder Sergey Brin, “and I know many of you do too.” One Google executive nearly started crying when recounting that Trump won. “It was this massive kick in the gut that we were gonna lose,” she said. “And it was really painful.”Pichai struck a more neutral political tone in comparison to his colleagues. “We are in a democratic system,” he said. “I think part of the reason the outcome ended up the way it is is [because] people don't feel heard across both sides.”But after a Google employee suggested that Trump won due to “misinformation” and “fake news coming from fake news websites being shared by millions of low-information voters on social media,” Pichai specifically pointed to the use of artificial intelligence to achieve the aim of countering “misinformation.”“I think our investments in machine learning and AI is a big opportunity here,” he said. Machine learning is a form of AI.Pichai then suggested that Google was already manipulating search results.

Commentary (and Explainer) This podcast is largely an op-ed about the "feminisation" of Western militaries and the effect of so-called "diversity, equity and inclusion" ideologies on modern defence forces. I look at what the purpose of a military is and the tension between its aims and the ways some arms of some defence forces are "marketing" themselves to their own people. That’s 760 inmates per 100,000 U.S. residents of all ages.[27][25] This incarceration rate was similar to the average incarceration levels in the Soviet Union during the existence of the infamous Gulag system, when the Soviet Union’s population reached 168 million, and 1.2 to 1.5 million people were in the Gulag prison camps and colonies (i.e. about 714 to 892 imprisoned per 100,000 USSR residents, according to numbers from Anne Applebaum and Steven Rosefielde).[37][38] Some of the latter Soviet Union’s yearly incarceration rates from 1934 to 1953, however, likely were the world’s historically highest for a modern age country.[39] In The New Yorker article The Caging of America (2012), Adam Gopnik writes: “Over all, there are now more people under ‘correctional supervision’ in America—more than six million—than were in the Gulag under Stalin at its height.”[40] Adam Gopnik, “The Caging of America”

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Michael Malice (Author, The New Right) about the eighth chapter of “Don’t Burn This Book”, entitled “Learn How To Spot Fake News’’. Special guest Michael Malice and Dave Rubin talk about the hypocrisy and double standards of the mainstream media. They discuss how the media which was quick to report on many disproved allegations against Brett Kavanaugh now seem to be ignoring the seemingly more credible allegations against the DNC presidential nominee Joe Biden. The same media that chanted #metoo and “believe all women” now seem silent when it is politically inconvenient. Dave discusses this hypocrisy and how it leads to the further erosion of trust in our media institutions at a time when we desperately need trustworthy media to make sense of our world. Dave also discusses how many people who were lied about by the media like Nick Sandmann, James Damore, Bret Weinstein, Lindsay Shepherd and Ben Shapiro have all emerged stronger afterwards. Dave also shares his own personal experience concerning a smear piece in the New York Times that was written about him.

The white male Google engineer who was fired back in 2017 for writing a screed entitled “Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber”? The one that went on and on about how the corporate culture at Google discriminates and marginalizes the viewpoints of conservative white men, namely the alt-right? Well he decided to move to dismiss the case, a motion Google then joined, which led to a resolution that wasn’t made public. So it’s over. No one knows the details. But the matter that consumed the tech community for months over 2 years ago, has now drifted away like it never happened. Warren/Sanders demand explanation about Amazon firings Nine U.S. Senators led by Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders wrote a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos demanding an explanation for his company’s firing of at least 4 Amazon workers who’d raised concerns about Amazon’s working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The letter noted that COVID-19 infections have been reported in some 100 Amazon warehouses, that at least 3 Amazon workers have died from COVID-19 complications, and that an Amazon Vice President resigned in protest over the company’s handling of employees’ complaints. Other signers included Cory Booker, Sherrod Brown, Kirsten Gillibrand, Ed Markey, Richard Blumenthal, Kamala Harris, and Tammy Baldwin. No Republicans signed the letter—not even Josh Hawley who has been very vocal about his concerns regarding what he sees as Amazon’s anticompetitive behavior. Amazon’s response is due by May 20th. Nutcase conspiracy theorist spits on 5G engineer who then contracts COVID-19 A conspiracy theorist in London ran up to Michael Demetroudi, an apprentice 5G engineer, yelled, “All you engineers are just trying to import the 5G in every single box”, and then spat in his face.  Vice News reports that it wasn’t the first time Demetroudi has been harassed by lunatics for being a 5G engineer – one woman jumped out in front of his truck in the middle of the street and accused him of “spreading 5G from the top of his vehicle”. Another guy started yelling at him when he was just standing in line in his uniform, getting ready to buy a sandwich … I really don’t know what else to say. FCC fines Sinclair $48 million for fake news segments The FCC has fined Sinclair Broadcasting for $48 million for airing paid fake news segments 1,700 times across its stations nationwide in 2016. However, the FCC hasn’t revoked Sinclair’s licenses, even though Sinclair attempted to maintain control over stations it was supposed to divest as part of its proposed merger with Tribune back in 2018. Also in 2018, Sinclair was clowned for forcing its local newscasters nationwide to read the same script echoing President Trump’s exhortations about Fake News. Despite this pattern of conduct, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai refused to revoke Sinclair’s licenses, saying requests by advocates to do so were “politically motivated”.

I was surprised how many people responded to my APA photo-essay with comments like “Seems psychiatry as a field is broken beyond repair” or “This proves you should never trust psychiatrists”. The mood I was going for was more “let’s share a laugh at the excesses of the profession” than “everything must be burned down”. Looks like I missed it. I was disappointed to see a lot of the most hostile comments coming from people in tech. It would be easy to write an equally damning report on the tech industry. Just cobble together a few paragraphs about Juicero and Theranos, make fun of whatever weird lifestyle change @jack is supporting at the moment, and something something Zuckerberg something Cambridge Analytica something. You can even throw in something about James Damore (if you’re writing for the left) or about the overreaction to James Damore (if you’re writing for the right). And there you go! Tech is a malicious cancerous industry full of awful people and everyone should hate it. We’ve all read this exact thinkpiece a thousand times. I’ve tried to push back against this line of thinking. A lot of the most visible and famous things in tech are bad, because scum tends to rise to the top. But there’s also some extraordinary innovation going on, and some extraordinarily good people involved. “@jack invents new health fad of rolling around naked on glaciers” is a much juicier story than “we can now fit twice as many billions of transistors on a chip as we could last year”, but tech journalism that only reports on the former is missing an important part of the story. I feel the same way about psychiatry. There’s a lot of cringeworthy stuff going on at conferences, but conferences are designed to be about signaling and we shouldn’t expect otherwise. There’s also a lot of great people working really hard to help fight mental illness and support the mentally ill. “Most Americans remain alive and basically functional despite record-breaking amounts of depression and anxiety” isn’t sexy any more than “Internet continues to connect billions of people around the world at the speed of light” is sexy. But it’s a much bigger part of the story than the part where silly people do silly things at conferences.

Microsoft Diversity Plan BACKFIRES In "James Damore 2.0" Event. Following stories about complaints from female staffers at Microsoft news emerged that employees were outraged at the discriminatory practices against white men and asians. Far left media pounced in outrage that anyone would dare openly challenge "diversity."Quartz said they are holding the name of the employee pending a response which could result in what many are calling a "James Damore 2.0" type event. As the far left and social justice activists demand diversity programs we see them fail time and time again. Data and studies form Harvard show that these programs often backfire and don't work as intended. We can now see how the far left views all Asians as one group when it is very ethnically diverse. It seems the goal isn't diversity but tribal authority and control. This would explain why they demand punishment for those openly questioning the practice.Support the show (http://timcast.com/donate)

In early August, 2017, James Damore was fired from Google for writing the now famous #GoogleMemo. In it he documented Google's internal echo chamber, some of the dangers the companies policies toward men and women present, and some suggestions for how to change moving forward. The document wasn't received as he had hoped, however, and he was fired after the memo went viral. In this 10th episode, Jason Hartman talks to James about the dangers of a company as big as Google becoming something akin to a thought police, whether algorithms should be public, what parts of the memo were ignored by the media (but incredibly important), and why we're seeing less and less diversity of thought in the world today. He has recently filed a class action lawsuit against Google. Key Takeaways: [2:38] How the Google memo came along [6:06] People talk about diversity, but don't surround themselves with any diversity of thought [7:42] An overview of the memo and what people considered so offensive [13:49] Some aspects of the Google memo were ignored by the media [15:46] We need to stop defining success solely in monetary terms, and women are now facing the stress related health concerns previously almost exclusively held by men [19:32] If we don't acknowledge, and celebrate, our differences as people, EVERYONE loses Website: www.FiredForTruth.com www.Twitter.com/JamesADamore

A male product manager at a tech company gives his take on the Google Memo that's been a big topic of discussion in recent weeks. To bring you up to speed: a software developer at Google called James Demore wrote a memo about the company's diversity policies. This memo spread fast internally before making it's way outside Google and causing a lot of controversy, and led to him being fired by Google. Demore wrote largely about so-called scientific and psychological differences between men and women and how they explain the gender balance in tech, and provdes research to back up his claims. (See the links below for more details along with two very good articles discussing the memo.)Alec Molloy has been a product manager for the past five years, and has worked in San Francisco, London and Malmo. He talks about how in some ways the memo accurately describes the situation within the tech industry, how it's calm language is both dangerous and also something he thinks these debates could benefit more from, and what he hopes future generations will take away from the discussions about gender diversity in tech.Host: Nas aka Nastaran Tavakoli-FarGuest: Alec Molloy, product manager at a tech companyLinks: ‘The Google Memo' http://bit.ly/2ubOmpP) by James Damore  On Google's firing of Damore http://read.bi/2uMBV3c‘The email Larry Page should have written to James Damore' http://econ.st/2vMFoAP ‘I'm a woman in computer science, let me ladysplain the Google Memo to you' http://bit.ly/2uvAif6 by Cynthia Lee in Vox  ‘The most common error in the media's coverage of the Google Memo' http://theatln.tc/2vgKtCN by Conor Friedersdorf in The Atlantic  The Gender Knot www.thegenderknot.com
