How Katie Grimes Turned Bullying, Body Shame, and Trauma Into Bold Leadership

What if the very things you're most ashamed of are actually your superpowers? In this powerful conversation, business coach and podcast host Katie Grimes opens up about growing up in a home impacted by alcoholism, being relentlessly bullied, hating her body, and surviving sexual assault, and how she turned all of it into fuel for the life and business she has now. Katie now helps entrepreneurs (especially those with ADHD) build businesses that feel safe, spacious, and wildly successful, without burning themselves out or abandoning their needs. Together, we explore how the patterns we learn as teens, people pleasing, perfectionism, hyper-independence, and hiding our feelings, quietly shape our leadership as adults… and how we can change the story. If you're a teen, parent, educator, or leader who's ever felt “too much,” “not enough,” or like your past disqualifies you from leadership, this episode will hit home in the best way. In this episode, we talk about: How bullying, body image struggles, and growing up around addiction shaped Katie's self-worth The moment she realized perfectionism is not a flex, it's a survival response What no one tells teens about nervous systems, freeze/people-pleasing, and why we pretend everything is “fine” How Katie rebuilt her life after sexual assault, grief, and being let go from corporate The shift from “I'm a burden” to “I'm allowed to ask for help” Finding safe and trusted adults, and what that actually looks and feels like Why the things that come easiest to you are your greatest leadership gifts How Katie went from all of this… to building a $550k+ coaching business and helping 100,000+ people Connect with Katie Grimes Instagram & TikTok: @kg.katiegrimes Podcast – Anything for Love: https://www.katiegrimes.com/podcast Website & Coaching: https://www.katiegrimes.com/ If something in this episode resonated and you'd like a free coaching session with Katie, email support@katiegrimes.com and mention this episode of Leaders of Today: Teens to Titans.

Are you loving it? Send Ash a text! What if your superpower of “I've got it” is the very thing keeping you exhausted? In this episode, I unpack the quiet trap high-achieving women fall into: mistaking capacity for compulsion. We talk about why saying yes feels safer than slowing down, how your body always pays the bill, and the simple filter I use to ensure I don't lose sight of my defined version of success.TOPICS & TANGENTS:• Capacity vs. compulsion: why “I can” isn't the same as “I should”• The hidden cost of being capable: energetic and emotional price tags• “Your body pays the bills”: what over-functioning does to your nervous system• Discernment as a regulation skill: pause, ask, and act with intention• My success filter: will this bring me closer to or further from peace• Breaking the “helpful one” identity without burning everything down• Micro-habits that create exhale moments instead of more adrenaline• Real-talk examples from retreats, pods, and everyday lifePOINT OF THE STORY:Strength is not carrying it all. Strength is knowing when to set it down. Just because you can doesn't mean you should, and trust me… and your nervous system knows the difference.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:• Mixermind (the curated, connection-first visibility community I'm part of)• Bonus for my community: join via my link and you'll get a 1:1 visibility strategy session with me on how to use Mixer Mind intentionally and map your 2026 visibility plan• My chat with Katie Grimes on her podcast Anything for Love — we dove into cycle syncing, rest, and turning your hormones into your biggest business advantage. "You can be, at least according to Christian thought, the only sinless person in human history, and you can still be tortured and crucified in your early thirties."From the perspective of Christian theology, it's probably not going too far to say that both the moral exemplarity and the suffering life of Jesus should be central to the Christian understanding of flourishing. Here's another way to put it. Jesus was morally perfect and sinless, but encountered immense suffering, poverty, marginalization, and eventual torture and death. Tempted, yet without sin. But also counted among the sinners, according to Isaiah 53's "Suffering Servant" theme. He is acquainted with grief, familiar with sorrow, anguished in his soul. And so the big question here is: What kind of flourishing do we envision when we follow Christ toward that flourishing?Today, we're sharing a conversation between Matt Croasmun and Katie Grimes, Assistant Professor of Theological Ethics at Villanova University. Together they discuss the social context of theology, trying to make sense of the role of Christ in approaching theology from the perspective of flourishing. For Katie, thinking about flourishing means thinking about virtues and vices, and that means thinking about the habits that pull us along toward the fully realized human good. But it also means pursuing a theological vision that accounts for the most troubling social realities.Production NotesThis podcast featured Katie Grimes & Matt CroasmunEdited and Produced by Evan RosaHosted by Evan RosaA Production of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture at Yale Divinity School https://faith.yale.edu/aboutSupport For the Life of the World podcast by giving to the Yale Center for Faith & Culture: https://faith.yale.edu/give

We sat down with Katie Grimes, the youngest Olympian from the 2020 Tokyo team and most recently the double silver medal winner in Budapest. Grimes admits that while she is pleased with her two 2nd place finishes in the 400 IM and 1500, she isn't satisfied. Grimes is looking toward the 2024 Olympic Games and winning gold in Paris, with such a laser focus that she has decided with her coach, Ron Aitken, that she won't fully taper for a meet until then (not even world championships). Grimes also discusses how she improved in training and racing since last year at the Olympic Trials and the Games themself, where she placed 4th in the 800 free. The young distance swimmer has also started dipping her toes into open water, competing in the 10K in Budapest as well as preparing for the upcoming open water Jr World Champs in September.

Did you know that “Love Addiction” exists and it's rooted from lacking self-love? It may sound crazy, but it's real! Today's guest, Katie Grimes, opens up about this addiction that she had a while ago and how she managed to overcome it. Nowadays, Katie is a Sober Dating Coach who helps women increase their self-esteem to create healthier and happier love lives. If you're desperate to find love, listen up and you'll learn a big lesson!Highlights:After 5 years of working at a commercial real estate company, Katie realized that the woman's role in that corporate sector was neglected. Because of this, she decided to start hosting small events for women to connect and interact with each other. At one moment in her life, Katie realized that she had a Love Addiction: she felt empty inside and she had a constant need to flirt or have sex with men in order to fulfill that emptiness. That's how she decided to get sober from love.Katie had a traumatic experience on a ski trip which encouraged her to teach other women how to heal, love themselves, and increase their self confidence. Eventually, she started coaching professionally on dating which is all about self-love. When dating, there are three common attachment styles that people tend to experience and Katie explains each of them in detail. The importance of understanding that people who are using dating apps may not be looking for the same relationship as you are: some are looking for a girlfriend, others are more into casual relationships, etc.Being aware of some red flags when dating is crucial to know which ones are your limits and if you're actually right for that person. To learn more about Katie Grimes, visit her website or follow her on Instagram Sign up for The First Degree Membership!
