Reminding you why the Mississippi Gulf Coast is such a great place to live, work, and play
If the pandemic proved anything, it is that a mobile-first retail experience opens up a world of convenience for today's consumer. So Omni Talk is pleased to announce that Alicia LeBeouf, Head of Industry for Retail & Grocery at Meta, joined Chris Walton and Anne Mezzenga for the latest installment of their Omni Talk Ask An Expert Series to give her experienced perspective on how best to equip retailers and brands within this new digitally-led dynamic. Collectively the three of them go deep on: – What makes mobile such an important element of shopping, and particularly grocery shopping, today – The personalization tactics retailers and brands are using to great success – The keys to making mobile-based shopping experiences more “convenient” – And, of course, the next wave of mobile experiences on the horizon that will only surprise and delight customers even more! It is a conversation that is well-timed, coming off of Groceryshop and also one that will be a great capstone to the year as we begin to head into 2023. *Sponsored Content*

The first 25 minutes of Pieces of a Woman should be enough to tell you that you’re not prepared for the emotional toll of this movie. It should absolutely come with a trigger warning but at the same time is a must watch. At first this film seems like it’s about loss and grieving after Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and Sean (Shia LaBeouf) lose their child after a difficult home birth. However, what director Kornél Mundruczó and writer Kata Wéber really do is tell the story of how society dictates to women how they should feel and behave. This film really exposes how selfish people can be even when it appears (even to themselves) that they're being selfless. Losing a child is a tragic, heartbreaking experience for parents. But only one of those parents carried the baby inside their own body and that's the reality we have to life with. A woman who loses a child should be able to grieve (or not) how they want and shouldn't have to shoulder the emotional baggage of everyone else's grief and expectations. Pieces of a Woman works because of the two leads in the film, Shia LaBeouf and Vanessa Kirby. As I said in my capsule review, I want someone to give Shia LeBeouf a hug. I'm worried about him. Although maybe I shouldn't because he's come such a long way. From screaming "OPTIMUS!!!!" every 2 seconds in those terrible Michael Bay Transformers films to that weird stretch as a battle rapper, he’s had some rough patches. But with Honey Boy, The Peanut Butter Falcon and now Pieces of a Woman, he’s put together not only the 3 best performances of his career, but three roles that at least put him in the conversation during Oscar season. We can make all the jokes we want but LeBeouf has more than proven that he's a damn good actor. To be honest, part of my concern for his well being comes from the fact that he plays these roles so damn well, I start to question if he's even acting. When it's hard to discern where the fictional character begins and where the real person is, particularly when its different roles with their own unique traits and quirks, then it's safe to say, that's some damn fine acting. But the real star of Pieces of a Woman is Vanessa Kirby. LeBeouf puts in a great performance but this is Kirby's movie. Whatever your feelings about Pieces of a Woman are, the one thing that should be agreed upon is that Vanessa Kirby is absolutely fantastic in this film. If you weren’t a fan of Kirby before, you should leave this film as one. I’ve seen some reviews that suggest that Kirby didn’t really connect because at times she felt too stoic and emotionally detached. The irony of that is how meta that critique is. Martha spends most of the film having to defend herself from her mother and husband who think she’s not showing enough emotion after what happened and therefore must need their help or that something is wrong with her. To complain that Kirby isn’t showing enough (or the correct emotional reaction) as Martha really does miss the whole point the film is trying to make. Pieces of a Woman was one of my favorites of TIFF 2020, coming in second to One Night In Miami. It's a film that will definitely generate more conversations as more people see it. Netflix picked this up to distribute which makes sense. This film fits well in the conversation like Marriage Story did and is definitely worth checking out. Episode 104 TRAILER PARK ‘The Tax Collector’ - Kicking off Trailer Park this week we have Shia LeBeouf and Bobby Sotto starring the next feature film from Writer/Director David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Fury, Training Day and many more). Here we find LeBeouf and Sotto star as a couple of Tax Collectors for some of the heaviest and meanest thugs and gangs in the LA area. Sotto is a family man while LeBeouf is a hardened loner who almost seemingly gets off on hurting people and loves his job. When Sotto’s family seems to be taken hostage and their lives are threatened, the deadly duo must work together to get them back with as much bloodshed as possible of course! Also starring everyone’s favourite Latino Television dad, George Lopez! Bursting into American theatres like LaBeouf's cauliflower ears, August 7! ‘An American Pickle’ - It’s been a hot minute since one Seth Rogen has graced our presence on the big screen, and it looks like we’re going to be waiting a little longer as his next film is coming to HBO Max.. awesome. But here we have An American Pickle, a film about a man from the Eastern European country of Schlupsk, who immigrates with his wife to good ol’ Brooklyn. While they're trying to live out the American dream he gets a job in a pickle factory when one day, tragedy strikes and he falls into the pickle brine and dies. OR DOES HE?! 100 years later he awakens from the brine and it turns out, he was perfectly preserved in the broth and is now the same ‘age’ as his Great Great Grandson. While trying to adjust to the modern world and overcome the loss of all the people he knew, he and his GG Grandson start-up a pickle business! What could go wrong?! Punching onto HBO Max like a man from Schlupsk punching on with a Taxi, 6th of August. ‘Money Plane’ - This is the trailer we all needed this week and we didn’t even know it! A high octane, straight to DVD action flick starring a former wrestler! Here we have Money Plane! When a man with $40 million worth of debt has his outstanding bill paid off by an Uber rich guy, he needs to perform one favour to him. And no, it’s not a sneaky BJ under the table while he puffs on a cigar. It’s to gather together his crew of misfits to take down the mythical Money Plane. A casino with wings where no government can touch that has Billions of dollars on board. Sounds easy right? Wrong! I’m sure it’ll be insanely difficult! But nothing a man bun and Thomas Jane can’t handle! Crashing onto on Demand and DVD like (inevitably) a money plane from the sky, TODAY! ‘Amulet’ - Iiiiiiiiiit’s horror time! I’m the trailer for Amulet, we follow a man named Thomas, a former soldier seeking refuge. When he gets offered the chance to stay in a decaying old house, he is stoked with the opportunity to live for free in lieu of some odd jobs around the house trying to fix it up a bit. He doesn’t live there alone as there is a lonely young woman residing in the house along with her dying mother. Oh, poor love. But maybe something much more sinister is going on? Maybe the ‘dying’ old woman is actually a very hungry demon or something? All I know, if a Nun offers you a place to stay, you chuckle and then run the other fucking way! Flopping into American theatres like a dead fish on a chopping board, July 24! ‘Paydirt’ - A man on parole after serving time in prison teams up with his old crew to find the millions of dollars he stashed away in the desert before being locked up. That’s it, I literally just summarised the whole movie. But in the spirit of Trailer Park, let’s dig a little deeper! Pun intended! Luke Goss got himself set up and caught after a drug deal went wrong and the good old’ sheriff Mr. Val Kilmer himself got his man. But now he is out and free, Kilmer knows his man is up to no good again and even though he appears to be retired (careful how I say that!), he is still going to hunt him down before he gets to the loot! But it’s not just the sheriff after him, as the millions buried in the desert have become somewhat of a ‘legend’ and many other bad people have tried to find the money but to no avail! So he has a lot of attention to him as money is worth it… a lot… you know, cause it’s money. Also featuring a donkey load of the usual ‘straight to DVD’ action cliches! Grinding on demand like a stripper grinding on a thugs crotch, August 7! ‘The Silencing’ - Ending trailer park this week we have ourselves a little Cat and Mouse thriller! A man living in isolation in the woods teams up with the local sheriff to track down the man responsible for many young girls' deaths in the area. The man's daughter was kidnapped years ago and he believes that there is a killer who is detaining these women and then releasing them in the woods to hunt them for sport. The sheriff is like, so totally sick of this shit and is more than happy to team up with a regular dude to track this heartless killer down instead of, you know, using her police force? Seems legit. Exploding onto Canadian on-demand screens like a can of orange paint, 14th of August! YASSS OR PASSS - July 7th - (Glendale, Kotara & Tuggerah) ‘The Legend of the Five’ - A group of kiddies on a field trip discover an old ‘relic’ of some kind that grants them superpowers! Now with these new talents, they are responsible for taking down an age-old evil from destroying the world!! A family fantasy adventure film starring teenagers of no name or notoriety. ‘War’ - A Bollywood action film following a soldier who is tasked with taking down his former mentor who has gone rogue after an unexpected killing! Starting some jacked-up Bollywood stars and has loads of explosions and intensity! Probably dancing too! ‘Waves’ - A coming of age drama, this story follows an African American family led by their well-intentioned yet domineering father as he and his family navigate life through south Florida after a devastating loss. Films Coming this week that are NOT new: ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, ‘Predator’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’. @2c3pod Aussie Pop Culture Podcast ~ 2 Episodes every Wednesday and Friday + YOUTUBE bonus content. Interest rates could be a significant risk to retirement savers that is hiding in plain sight. During my conversation with Mike Barry, President of O3 Advisory Services, we connect a lot of dots on how low interest rates could impact the retirement of current and future retirees. We also hit on several reasons why interest rates have been trending lower, whether student debt plays into the conversation and why employers who are even considering pursuing a retirement income strategy should think very carefully about all of this prior to making a decision. Mike and I definitely get into the weeks on a few things but pull everything together in a way that will leave you with a better understand of the impact of interest rates on retirement plans. Edinboro University – home of the Fighting Scots. But why? The original Edinboro establishment was surveyed by Scotsman and Williamsport native William Culbertson and Alexander Hamilton (no, not THAT Alexander Hamilton, but a 3rd cousin) surveyed the area in 1796, with Culbertson returning the following year to settle around Lake Conneauttee – a Native American name meaning “Land of the Living Snowflake.” According to Russell Vance’s “A Portrait of Edinboro,” Edinboro was originally called “Washington,” after General (and later President) George Washington, who defeated French troops at Presque Isle and LeBeouf. But Culbertson’s wife, nicknamed Granny Randolph, noted that there was already a Washington, Pa., and suggested “Edinboro,” after Edinburgh, Scotland, the home of William’s ancestors. We sat down with Edinboro professor Dr. Tim Thompson to chat about our Scottish roots and the upcoming Highland Games & Scottish Festival this month.
Maybe you’re are like me, you have heard the term blockchain before, but if someone asked you to define it, you would have a tough time. Hopefully after you listen to my conversation with Micheal Barry, an author and President of O3 Plan Advisory Services, you will have a better idea of what blockchain is, and how it could impact 401(k) and other workplace retirement plans in the future. During our conversation we hit on distributed ledger technology and how it relates to blockchain, how providers will use blockchain in the future & the issues that could come up. We also hit on bitcoin and how it does or doesn’t relate to blockchain as they seem to be used in the same sentence often times and share some thoughts on the balance between privacy and universal data. We touch on a ton of new topics here and hopefully do it in a way that won’t leave you with a headache. Guest Bio Michael P. Sidney and Corey discuss the scumminess of Shia Lebeouf, kids actin' a fool, and somehow segue into the idea of being hypercritical of people, things, and whatever is going on around them. Then they get a little darker and get into the topic of being pretentious, being an asshole, and covering up what really might be insecurities or being self-conscious about what they're doing with their own endeavors. Finally, we cap it all off with SNL and then sharing our love for Bob's Burgers.Links:Gorgeous Children / Heela Monsta — Intro / outro to the showMount Holyoke commencement speech of 2001 — Cross Fertilization

This week Screen Verdict heads back to the prohibition era to review the adventures of the Bondurant brothers in the film Lawless. After struggling to decide on what town the film is set in, Matt and Jonathan introduce the premise and the major players involved in the film. Next they review some of the main acting roles including Tom Hardy, Shia LeBeouf, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Gary Oldman. Matt and Jonathan are split on their MVP of the film but are equally creeped out by Guy Pearce. Matt also takes issue with a list including Shia LeBeouf on IMDB and offers some fashion advice that Jonathan takes with some skepticism. The boys also give their thoughts on prohibition, warn listeners of the violence in Lawless and see what relationship advice they can take from the Bondurant boys. In our weekly segment What Has (Lawless) Taught Us, Matt learns something about presents and Jonathan shares a new look on cardigans. Lastly the boys give their Screen Verdict rating for the film and in Housekeeping Matt updates us on his birthday treasure hunt. Join Jason Hartman as he opens with some thoughts on buying far below construction or replacement costs sharing an email from Allstate Insurance, then a discussion of an Orange County Register article citing Marcus & Millichap's 2012 National Apartment Report. You'll hear Michael LeBeouf, author of the NY Times best-selling book, "The Greatest Management Principle in the World", where he discusses human behavior and how "What Gets Rewarded, Gets Repeated." In the news: Underwater borrowers eligible for settlement write-downs. A calculation by a Brookings Institution economist narrowed down a pool of underwater homeowners to 500,000 who could qualify for principal reduction from the $25 billion mortgage settlement. Using the parameters of the settlement, Ted Gayer found just 5% of the nation's 11.1 million underwater borrowers could get the principal reduced on their mortgage, first reported by The Washington Post. About $10 billion of the settlement, in the form of credits, will go toward principal write-downs made by the five banks. Only homeowners delinquent on their mortgages are eligible. Gayer eliminated others according to underlying requirements, including Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac loans and homes not owner-occupied. It's a rough calculation, Gayer warned, and he made some assumptions in the process. He eliminated any loans not held on the banks' balance sheets, as well as any with a second loan. Mortgage bondholders may not take kindly to principal write-downs, he said.
Madge and Dave discuss politics (sort of), food poisoning, circumcision, Russell Crowe, Ice-T, Alec Baldwin and how Will.i.am keeps forgetting his own lyrics. Plus, Madge Libs, Incontinence or BLANK and I Don't Get Shia LaBeouf. Also, papercuts, half-a-stick-of-gummers, magazine subscription cards and an incoherent listener unload. Oh, and Madge decides to carry a midget in a backpack. (Week of June 6, 2011)
