That Real Blind Tech Show

It's an all new That Real Blind Tech show,  and we have found Jeanine, she's alive, and we sucked her in to the That Real Blind Tech Show lair for a massive recap of WWDC 2022. So welcome back Jeanine Stanley, and Allison Meloy is here as well. Sorry Allison no creative lengthy intro for you.   We start off finding out what the Matrix has been like, as that is the only reasonable explanation to where has Jeanine been.   We start off discussing the new S lady, er, well it took us awhile but eventually we found a name for the new Sonos assistant, how about the S dude! We don't believe it is taken yet.    Next before jumping in to everything WWDC, we discuss a landmark lawsuit coming in from Australia against Google and YouTube.   Then it is on to WWDC 2022. We start off discussing the high quality audio description for this year's keynote, what some of our highlights were and if we had any disappointments from the keynote.       We got two new Macs coming next month, an M2 Mac Air and a M2 Mac Book Pro. Will either of these devices be in any of our futures? We also got a new Apple 35W charger that will have two UsbC ports.   We discuss the rumor that Eloquence voices are coming to the iPhone and Mac. We cannot confirm or deny this rumor. We then get in to what excites us most about iOS 16. We then discuss all the changes coming to the newly redesigned locked screen. Next we will be getting iCloud Family Sharing of the photo library. You will now be able to edit and delete sent messages, however, people will be able to tell that changes have been made to the message. Siri is going to kind of get smarter, as she will now be able to hang up phone calls and add emojis. Medication tracking is coming to the health app. Safety Check, a new feature will help people escape domestic violence. iOS 16 apps will now need to ask permission to access the clipboard, ugh. Haptic feedback will be coming to the keyboard, really, we thought it was already there for VoiceOver users.   Apple Pay later is coming to Apple wallet, but is this really a good thing? Shockingly, we learned Apple Maps currently does not have multi-stop directions, well it will in iOS 16.   We talk about sports scores and play by play coming to sports, and if you are an Apple News Plus member, you will be able to get news about your favorite teams, but some of us already have apps that do this. The Home app will get an all new badly needed redesign.   In our favorite segment of the keynote, the Geek was back, as he told us all about the new Watch OS. I love this guy! We are not runners on this show, but lots of new things for those of you who have been known to run. More on sleep tracking to, but nothing about keeping Freddy out of those dreams.   Mac OS Ventura is coming and is supposed to improve continuity between all of our devices. We discuss the new Stage Time coming to FaceTime and Zoom, and the new Desk. View. We try and figure out what the difference is between deleting a sent message and recalling one, as some of this stuff got quite confusing. Free Form collaboration is coming to the Mac, but will it be accessible, and useful? Stage Manager is yet another feature coming to the Mac, but again, will it be useful for VoiceOver users? And yet another new feature called App Windows will be coming to the Mac. Head can explode now.    The biggest most revolutionary announcement at this year's WWDC, in our opinion, is PassKey, Apple's attempt to replace old school annoying passwords. Wow, if this actually works.   The long awaited global nightmare of the iPad not having a weather app is over!   We discuss Live Text and Jeanine gives us an example of how she has used it.   And it's more of Watcha Streaming, Watcha Reading.     To contact That Real Blind Tech Show, you can email us at ThatRealBlindTechShow@gmail.com, join our Facebook Group That Real Blind Tech Show, join us on the Twitter @BlindTechShow , or leave us an old school phone message at 929-367-1005.

When I used TouchID on an iPhone, I really only used one thumb, but with the iPad Air it makes sense to have multiple fingers for TouchID depending on the way that you're holding the iPad. You can go into Settings - TouchID & Passcode and add more fingers, and even rename the fingers that you've used for TouchID. You can even add a family member's finger to unlock your iPad. Jeff's iTip: You've always been able to copy an entire text message by tapping and holding and selecting “Copy” from the pop-up menu, but that copies all of the text in the message. If you only want to copy part of the text, create a screenshot of the text message and then in the screenshot drag your finger across the text to select and copy it - this works because the iPhone recognizes the text through the Live Text feature. Double Tap Canada is back for another week of top tech talk and news. But first, our listeners have plenty to say on the topic of Double Tap merchandise. Is a hairy logo the secret to success? I really hope not… Next, we take a brief look at the recent Samsung event and can't help feeling nostalgic at the thought of being able to customize the look of our smartphones. Samsung announced the ability to do just that with their new bespoke Z Flip phone. With a range of faceplates and colours, your dream of owning a bright pink leopard skin handset could soon be a reality. In other news, Marc is tempted by the new DJI Action 2 Dual Screen camera; with its modular design and small size, could this newcomer take on the might of the GoPro cameras? And is there even an accessible option for us when it comes to action cameras? After a small plea from Shaun regarding finding the perfect mug so he can stop scalding his fingers, it is on to what Steven bought this week. The new Apple Air Pods 3 have a new design and features such as MagSafe charging, but what do they sound like? Well, if Steven can install iOS 15.1 in time, he'll let us know. In OS news, we look at the features that are only available to computers running the M1 processor in the new Monterey Mac OS. Shaun questions why on-device dictation is not available on Intel-based systems, but the arguably more demanding Live Text feature is? He's also updated to Windows 11, but has he noticed any difference from Windows 10? The show wraps up with the news of Mastercard introducing a more accessible credit card for the blind, which leads to an interesting claim from Shaun and great news from Zoom that real-time captioning is now available to users with free accounts. Also, Steven has his next purchase in mind, with the imminent release of the Anker Sound Core Frames. They're modular glasses that offer built-in Bluetooth audio. But do they have what it takes to replace his current favorites, the Bose Frames?

This might be a silly little tip, but when you “Mute” the person who you called cannot hear you, but you can still hear them. But if you put the call on “Hold” then you are muted, and you can't hear the other side either. (I've only been able to test this on AT&T, but I've seen some reports that this only works on AT&T and T-Mobile, and may not work on Verizon or Sprint. Also, some people report that when you put a person on hold, they hear music, but I haven't been able to verify that.)Jeff's iOS Tip: Customize the text size in a specific app. Go to Settings -> Control Center -> and add the Text Size icon. Now when you are using an app, invoke the Control Center and tap the Text Size button.  At the bottom left, tap [this app] Only.  You can then increase (or decrease) the text size only in that specific app. This is one of the 50 tips in the MacRumors post by Tim Hardwick.Brett Burney from http://www.appsinlaw.comJeff Richardson from http://www.iphonejd.com

Welcome back to the extended Apple WWDC edition of Double Tap Canada. In this second hour, we'll be joined by author and podcaster Shelly Brisbin. Shelly will be helping us delve into just what improvements and new features are coming to Apples upcoming operating systems. We'll be taking a look at features such as Live Text, which can recognize text in any image and allow you to interact with it. For example, if you have a photo of a store front and there is a phone number or website link on the sign, you'll be able to simply tap that link to go to the website or tap the number to start a phone call. Also, we can expect to get far better and more detailed photo descriptions, including object recognition and even information on that object. For partially sighted users, there's also the new Display Accommodations Per App feature. This allows you to set various options, such as text size or high contrast for specific apps. This is a great way to get an app looking exactly the way that works best for you without having to spend time setting it up each time you open the app. Other features covered include the new "interaction" mode for navigation, how VoiceOver will work with assistive touch on the Apple Watch, new options for switch control, including eye tracking, game controller support and sound control and so much more … If you have any questions or feedback regarding this or any episode, you can email us feedback@ami.ca.
