Op zaterdag 26 augustus organiseert milieubeweging Extinction Rebellion een fietstocht van Haarlem naar Zandvoort. Dit is als protest tegen de Dutch Grand Prix, die datzelfde weekend plaats zal vinden. Tijdens het radioprogramma Haarlem Vandaag vertelt Extinction Rebellion-lid Lowie van Liere over de tocht en hun redenen voor het protest. "Wij vinden verwoesting van een natuurgebied onacceptabel: daarom stappen wij op de fiets."  Dit is de derde keer dat de milieuorganisatie een fietstocht organiseert als protest tegen de Grand Prix op het circuit in Zandvoort. De route is al uitgewerkt. "We verzamelen om 11 uur op het stationsplein in Haarlem, daarna fietsen we naar Zandvoort. We eindigen uiteindelijk op het strand, dat is bij strandafslag Paulus Loot", noemt Van Liere. Of de tocht ook langs het circuit zal gaan is nog niet duidelijk.   Hoeveel invloed het protest zal hebben is volgens hem moeilijk te meten. Wat hij wel merkt zijn de vele positieve reacties die de organisatie krijgt van politici en andere milieuacties. "Wij krijgen dan elke keer het signaal terug: doordat jullie dit doen, maak je ons werk gemakkelijker", legt Van Liere uit. Dit soort acties laten volgens hem aan deze groepen zien hoeveel mensen echt achter hun staan, waardoor ze makkelijker hun mening durven te uiten.

In de tijd dat bij zijn 10-jarige dochter Guusje kanker geconstateerd werd, ging Lowie van Gorp twitteren en bloggen over het proces waar hij, #KanjerGuusje en zijn gezin in terecht kwamen. Na het overlijden van Guusje in 2011 leidde dit tot 2 boeken: KanjerGuusje en We houden je vast. Hierin vertelt hij hoe hij de ziekte van Guusje beleefd heeft en hoe zij met elkaar verder gegaan zijn na haar dood. Door de gebeurtenissen, en doordat hij bekendheid kreeg door het bloggen en twitteren, nam zijn leven een andere wending. Vijf jaar geleden startte hij zijn uitvaartbedrijf Van Gorp Uitvaartzorg en sindsdien hebben hij en zijn team al veel families bij kunnen staan in de moeilijke periode rondom een overlijden. In deze podcast vertelt Lowie over wat er gebeurde rondom de ziekte van Guusje, wat dit met hem en zijn gezin deed, hoe het hem veranderd heeft en welke lessen hij leerde. En hij vertelt hoe hij nu in het leven staat, hoe het overlijden van zijn dochter zijn werk beïnvloed en hoe zijn leven er nu uitziet. De moeite van het luisteren waard!

A HERO IS BORN, PART 2: In EPISODE 61, we were introduced to these characters. This time, Mr. Johannsen and Tassie survey the damage after Lowie has surely been killed by the chemical spill. Or has he...? Johannsen has many ideas of how to cover up the accident (smoking barrel boy's octopus seems to be one.) He also has plans to deal with the grieving family. Many of them involve Qbert. Like, a drawing of Qbert seducing a bottle of varnish. But then, a mystical crystal begins to have strange effects on the two of them. Most of the effects involve horrible things that Mr. Johannsen seems to want to try with Tassie. Cade mentions Velamints and blames Mac for it somehow. Mac mispronounces the word "hour", Cade mocks him, and then immediately mispronounces the word "celebration." If you like this sort of thing, well, you must know some other weirdos who would also like it. Tell them about it. And then YOU'LL be the weirdo who knows stuff before all the other weirdos, and you'll become a weird messiah, probably.

Superheroes are born in the most unlikely of places. Or they will be at some point, presumably. We didn't really get around to much of the superhero elements of the superhero origins story. Kind of got bogged down in... that special way that we do. A HERO IS BORN: We meet Mr. Johannsen, evil corporate overlord and his faithful assistant, Tassie. They discuss ways of getting around government safety regulations, and also ways for Mr. Johannsen to "kelp himself." Also, Tassie is demoted for improperly tilting cranberries. Then we meet our hero. I mean, again, we guess we do that. Lowie, our fair-haired boy, is on the factory floor, a victim of a horrible accident, plus a really serious bout of what can only be called sensual harassment. GERALDBURGER ENDORSEMENT: STARMEK & ZEMILION-B -- You might remember these two from SuperGalactic, where they are the onboard computers on Strider Zorn's ship. But they have to eat too, and when they do, they go to GeraldBurger.
