Brenna and Joe return to discuss My Old Ass (2024), our second Megan Park text (after The Fallout).Don't let the title put you off! This is an extremely sweet and charming coming of age film, although as listener Spencer wondered: is this more for millennials than actual teens? We tackle the question, as well as the hilarious reverse "coming out" scene, which parts made us cry, and why we hope Park continues to surround herself with female talent to tell more stories about girlhood.Wanna connect with the show? This week we bring you a review of a GenZ coming-of-age dramedy that, despite the title, hits way harder than you might expect. It shows the true beauty of being young and dumb. [REBROADCAST FROM September 11, 2024] In a new touching coming-of-age story, Elliot, an 18-year-old woman played by Maisy Stella, receives advice from her older self, played by Aubrey Plaza, after a magical mushroom trip with her friends in the woods for her birthday. Writer and director Megan Park joins us alongside Stella to discuss the film, "My Old Ass," streaming on Prime Video.
Today's episode proved the point of this whole "2024 Passion Projects" exercise. Ray Gill Jr. (Portland Mercury, Willamette Week) nominated a movie I was maybe going get to? And it ended up a favorite of the year. In "My Old Ass," Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza play the same character at different ages, connected in time by a mushroom trip. Ray and I dig into how director Megan Park plays with our allegiances, champions youth, and turns a possibly sappy premise into a deeply affecting call for self-reflection.
TV fans got to see Megan Park shine in front of the cameras in the popular series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but her work behind the camera is bringing her critical acclaim. First, with her film “The Fallout,” and now her latest “My Old Ass,” Park has taken Hollywood by storm. The writer-director joins Sophia to talk about “My Old Ass,” her coming-of-age comedy that has film critics buzzing! She also shares her experience watching movie-goers react to her film at Sundance, Margot Robbie’s hands-on support as a producer, her transition from acting to directing, and an inside look at her writing process. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
After only two feature films, writer-director Megan Park already displays some unique hallmarks with her projects. Both her 2022 debut The Fallout and her latest effort My Old Ass follow Gen-Z teenagers who must wrangle their own self-absorption in order to find some level of fulfillment by the end.
Join Troy and Special Guest Host Erynne Mercado as they discuss My Old Ass. Not my old ass literally, but the new film from Megan Park.
Inside this episode Josh and Jade review the film, My Old Ass, streaming now on Amazon Prime. This coming of age comedy is written and directed by Megan Park and stars Maisy Stella in her film debut, Percy Hynes White, Maddie Ziegler, Kerrice Brooks, and Aubrey Plaza. Also, inside this episode our hosts discuss the Silo Season 2 premiere on Apple TV + and the casting choice of Sophie Turner as Laura Croft in Amazon's new Tomb Raider series written and produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. This week, we took a gander at two films in current release: Megan and Evan watched BLINK TWICE (2:32), Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut starring Naomi Ackie as a woman who goes to a private island with a tech-bro (Channing Tatum) and parties with his friends, but things aren't what they seem to be. We were divided on this thriller. Then Dave joined them for MY OLD ASS (24:35), which is NOT about an aged donkey. It's writer-director Megan Park's sweet and charming coming-of-age tale of Elliot (Maisy Stella), a woman preparing to leave her small town for college in the big city, taking some mushrooms and meeting her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza). There's more to it than that, but here's the real question: Which Spoilerpiece members cried during this one? Place your bets! Over on Patreon, we talk about the 1946 noir classic GILDA, starring Rita Hayworth.
It's just Matt and Travis on the show this week, holding down the fort and keeping that content train chuggin' along. The featured review this time out is the new film from Megan Park, “My Old Ass”. We missed this one in theaters a couple months back but it just hit streaming on Prime, so we're circling back to check it out! Hope you enjoy our conversation. 0:00 – Introductions 14:31 – “My Old Ass” Review 49:34 – What We've Been Watching Music Intro: Cleaning House - Celebration Guns Outro: Triple Seven - Wishy “Unholy Confessions - Unholy Cover” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybDCObQRRM4

The Kingston Art Tour is all about becoming part of the art. Local artist Joanne Gervais wanted to create a uniquely eclectic range of art experiences for people to enjoy around town. Among the many cultural events on the Kingston Art Tour will be an encounter with Vikings. These ones have come not from Scandinavia, but rather from Gatineau. Host Nav Nanwa had a fun chat with both Joane and the Jarl of Hafn Hullsborg. You might remember our conversation with Huntsville councilor Bob Stone. He talked about the town offering riverfront homes and $80-thousand dollar return-of-service agreements. As nice as that sounds, a local facebook group thinks there might be something more to offer. Host Nav Nanwa spoke to Karen Patterson, founder of the Huntsville And Friends Help Out Group on facebook, about the extra bonus. The Port Elgin Pumpkinfest begins this week for all your pumpkin carvings and cravings! A highlight of it is the growing competition as local farmers show off their biggest sunflowers, squash, tomatoes, and of course, pumpkins! In Megan Park's new film ‘My Old Ass,' a teenager named Elliott (Maisy Stella) meets her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) on a mushroom trip. The experience gives young Elliott perspective: her “old ass” tells her to wear her retainer, and be nice to her family before leaving for college. But it's the older Elliott who gets the bigger lesson, on the stories we tell ourselves about the past. Today, Megan joins Lilah to discuss the concept of the film, and what it was like to work with a crew of mostly Gen Z actors.-------We love hearing from you! Lilah is on Instagram @lilahrap and email at lilahrap@ft.com. Read a transcript of this episode on FT.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Our latest guest on Soundtracking is Megan Park, writer and director of whipcrack smart comedy, My Old Ass. We don't want to say too much about the plot, but it basically involves an 18 year old girl meeting her older self having taken magic mushrooms, forcing her to reassess where she's at in life in the most profound of ways. Megan has delivered not only an exceedingly moving film, but also and exceedingly funny one.
Kerrice Brooks is authentic, refreshing, funny, and charismatic. They are going places! They star in one the best coming of age films, My Old Ass. It is written and directed by Megan Park, featuring Maisy Stella, Aubrey Plaza, and Maddie Ziegler. Kerrice plays Ro who is just a fun loving bestie who keeps it real. This movie will have you laugh, cry, and reflect on your life and you will want to watch this over and over again.
On the Saturday September 28, 2024 episode of The Richard Crouse Show we get to know Mike Downie, director of “The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal,” the definitive four-part documentary series about the band who, as the programmers of TIFF noted earlier this year, “went on to make music that defined Canada to the world and, more importantly, Canada to Canadians.” The four-hour Amazon Prime docuseries combines never-before-seen archival footage with new interviews with the band, family, friends, and famous fans including Will Arnett, Dan Aykroyd, Jay Baruchel and Geddy Lee, to create a joyful and moving look at The Tragically Hip, their music and the personal tragedies that defined the band. It's the story of a band of brothers, produced and directed by Mike Downie, brother of the band's frontperson Gord Downie. Then, we meet Maisy Stella and Megan Park, the star and director respectively of “My Old Ass,” a wonderful coming-of-age story about a free-spirited teen whose birthday mushroom trip brings her face-to-face with her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza, who delivers some choice advice and words of warning that transform her relationships with her family and friends. Finally, Divesh Subaskaran stops by. He's the star of “Life of Pi” currently on stage at the CAA Ed Mirvish theatre in Toronto. Based on the best-selling novel, this story of adventure and discovery is an epic journey about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger. We'll find out what it is like to do this demanding show night after night and why his acting teacher at RADA—the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts—told him he should behave like a rockstar.

An 18 year old scores a phone number...for herself at 39. That's the soft sci-fi hook of Megan Park's second movie, a coming of age story that is very much of this era, even if it has its eyes on the future. All that and a discussion of best and worst older/younger character casting choices. Mark my words; one of the greatest discoveries of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, or perhaps the year in its entirety, is bound to be Maisy Stella. Stella isn't new to the industry. She was on the hit series Nashville for six seasons, but My Old Ass proves her talent in a new way. Not only does the movie mark her very first feature film, but she's also the lead of it, cementing the fact that she's a wildly talented actor, and also a certified headliner.Stella plays Elliott in the film, a teenager gearing up to leave home for college. On her 18th birthday, she opts to celebrate by taking mushrooms with her friends and, while high, she's visited by her older self, played by Aubrey Plaza. While her “old ass” is hesitant to reveal too much about the future, she does share a few thoughts about how Elliott could make the most of her limited time home sweet home.My Old Ass was my favorite film of Sundance this year, and now it's on track to crack my Top 10 Films of 2024. Writer-director Megan Park whips up a brilliant concept that highlights the beauty of growing up and forging forward in life, but also how there's much to gain from remembering and appreciating the experiences of our youth, even the ones that aren't wholly positive. With My Old Ass now playing in select theaters, I got the chance to welcome Stella to Collider Ladies Night to recap her road to headlining her first film and making an indelible impression on cinema in 2024 in the process. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ashley & Matt review a new coming-of-age movie that hit us in the feels. This week's episode is all about My Old A**.
In a new touching coming-of-age story, Elliot, an 18-year-old woman played by Maisy Stella, receives advice from her older self, played by Aubrey Plaza, after a magical mushroom trip with her friends in the woods for her birthday. Writer and director Megan Park joins us alongside Stella to discuss the film, "My Old Ass," which opens in theaters this Friday, Sept. 13th.
In this episode of Girls On Film, Anna Smith highlights some feminist favourites from Sundance London Film Festival. She catches up with director Shuchi Talati, whose debut feature Girls Will Be Girls follows headgirl Mira (Preeti Panigrahi) as she strives to get As in the classroom and the bedroom, and struggles with a third-wheeling mother (Kani Kusruti). Anna is joined by Shuchi as well as lead actress Preeti Panigrahi as they reflect on women's filmmaking in India, reveal how they tackled intimacy on set together, and share Shuchi's initiative Undercurrent, a scheme to train women to work in the lighting department on film sets in India. Next up, Anna hears from the singer turned actress Maisy Stella, who stars opposite Aubrey Plaza in Megan Park's My Old Ass. The pair chat about what attracted Maisy to the role of 18 year old Elliott, who meets her 39 year old self while tripping on magic mushrooms and has to deal with the consequences of knowing how her teenage decisions will impact her later life. Maisy recalls the refreshing nature of Park's script, which portrays a queer lead without feeling tokenistic or trite. Finally, Anna chats to Vicky Krieps about starring in Viggo Mortensen's new feminist western, The Dead Don't Hurt. She talks with Anna about ‘becoming your own department' when your co-star is also the director, and Viggo speaks about the inspiration behind the character of Vivienne. Vicky also dispels some of the myths of progress in the film industry, while acknowledging the importance of portraying women like Vivienne in The Dead Don't Hurt in order to move towards a more feminist cinema, but also a more feminist film set. The Dead Don't Hurt is in UK and Irish cinemas now. Girls Will Be Girls will be in UK and Irish cinemas on 20 September 2024. Grab a tissue because we're in for another emotional episode (guess who cries twice? It's not Brenna) as we tackle a grounded, non-sensational depiction of the aftermath of a school shooting. Featuring astounding performances by Jenna Ortega and Maddie Ziegler with strong supporting roles for Modern Family's Julie Bowen and The Divergent Series' Shailene Woodley, The Fallout is powerful consideration of the lingering traumatic effects of gun violence. I know it's only the end of January, but trust me when I tell you Maddie Ziegler's new movie is a special one. I had the opportunity to catch The Fallout at SXSW 2021, and the movie has been on my mind ever since. Had it received a 2021 release, it likely would have been a favorite of the year. Now I'm hopeful that will happen in 2022. The film marks Megan Park's feature screenwriting and directing debut. Ziegler stars alongside Jenna Ortega as Mia and Vada, respectively. The two aren't especially close, but when they find themselves in the high school restroom together during a shooting, the shared experience sparks a strong connection that plays a significant role in their efforts to cope with what happened, move in new directions, and attempt to forge forward. Ziegler's got a staggering list of accomplishments for someone who's only 19-years-old, and she shows no signs of slowing down while trying to make the most of both of her passions, dancing and acting. On this episode of Collider Ladies Night, Ziegler looks back on her journey with Dance Moms, discovering her passion for acting, scoring a role in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, working with Ortega on The Fallout, and so much more! 3-D movies seem like they make a comeback every few years before disappearing to repeat the cycle again. But are they any good? Danny, Blake, and Nathaniel talk their favorites, what appeals people to them, and if they will ever go away. Plus, a review of sci-fi movie 'Enhanced' and an interview with director Megan Park.It seems like all the movie news these days revolves around changing release dates and what is coming to streaming networks. The three talk about the latest changes including Black Widow and Spiral: From the Book of Saw.Enhanced is a science fiction movie about a man who hunts mutants. While looking for one, he begins to wonder if they are as evil as he has been taught. Meanwhile, another mutant goes on a killing spree leading to an unlikely team up. It may not be the most original story, but it can still be a good movie. Right? The Fallout was a big hit at SXSW. The film won the jury and audience awards for Best Narrative film while director Megan Park won for Best Director. Nathaniel speaks with her about her emotional film. This week's main segment is about 3-D movies. The guys try to figure out why the movies keep coming back, how 3-D almost ruined horror for Nathaniel (and how the genre provided one of his favorite moments), and whether it will ever go away.

Alana Mitnick is a freelance commercial producer. She was born and raised in Los Angeles. Though she acted in commercials as a kid, she knew from a young age that she preferred to be behind the camera. After four years at Northwestern, Alana returned to the sunny skies of LA to climb the production ladder. And climb she did! Over the last 14 years she’s worked all over the world and overseen budgets ranging from $15,000 to $5 million. She’s produced spots for Nike, Target, Prudential, Corona, Lexus, Old Spice to name a few. She’s also worked on a few PSAs. The most rewarding spots she worked on last year, Ignite PSAs for Prettybird (production company) and directed by Megan Park. What I love about Alana is her endless curiosity for learning and that she finds time for EVERYTHING. I have no idea how she does it. Three years ago, feeling the need for a space so she could authentically build relationships and network with women in production, Alana started HER, which stands for Helping Each other Rise, to bring women in entertainment and advertising together in a meaningful way. It’s actually how we met! In this week’s chat, we breakdown the world of commercial producing, explore mindfulness on set, and the importance of setting personal boundaries. Can't wait to hear what you think of this week's episode. Beijos, Caca

Happily NEVER After is back with episode 16! What can I say about this movie? Sometimes you’re having a bad day, get a flat tire and a prince stops to help you change it. After that, at his sage Black valet’s chagrin, prince Nate excitedly volunteers to work (seemingly for free) at your family’s garden supply store AND gets you, a budding yet unexperienced landscape architect, a once in a lifetime gig redesigning the gardens of the hottest estate in town. Yes, people. This is where Susanna Truitt, played by Megan Park – nope, you don’t know her either – and Prince Nathaniel of Cambria, Jonathan Keltz – also unknown, find themselves at this point in their lives. As with any prince about to become king… of an entire country… he’s very reluctant about all of the responsibility, he’s never been in charge of his own life, blah blah whatever. @happilyneverafterpod will gladly take over. Anyway, they overcome a meddling, Cambria-splaining queen, ridiculous amounts of yard work and a shabby coronation to find this international love. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Three listeners - Evan, James, and Sarah - join me to discuss the film, Charlie Bartlett. Cast: Tyler Hilton, Anton Yelchin, Hope Davis, Megan Park, Kat Dennings and Robert Downey Jr. Summary: Wealthy teenager Charlie Bartlett (Yelchin) is failing miserably at fitting in at a new public high school run by the world-weary Principal Gardner (Downey, Jr.). As he begins to better understand the social hierarchy, Charlie's honest charm and likability positions him as the resident "psychiatrist" dishing out advice, and the occasional prescription with his partner and fellow student, Murphy Bivens (Hilton), to other students in need. Along the way, he decides to take some of his own advice, find romance, and learn to accept who he is, thus wielding a witty dark comedy about the angst-filled years before college.
