The word “friendly” goes out the window whenever the USMNT face Mexico. Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies and Tony Meola look ahead to Tuesday's clash in Guadalajara beginning with the news that five of Mauricio Pochettino's players have departed camp (04:25). The guys hit on Yunus Musah's foray into right midfield and the pool of available No. 10s (12:19). Then, what does the Mexico-USA rivalry signify in 2024 (23:28)? And what explains the drop-off in quality from the El Tri of yesteryear to the teams of the present day (28:40)? The crew discuss the projected starting XIs (39:12) and whether Josh Sargent should get the nod despite his long-standing goal drought on the international stage (43:27). And keeping with tradition, the guys round off the preview with their score predictions (49:41).      Call It What You Want is available for free on the Audacy app as well as Apple Podcasts, Spotify and wherever else you listen to podcasts.  Follow the Call It What You Want team on X: @JimmyConrad, @CharlieDavies9, @BMcBride20, @TMeola1 Visit the betting arena on CBSSports.com for all the latest in sportsbook reviews and sportsbook promos for betting on soccer. Robles covers fascinating dimensions of the radio broadcasting industry, including advertisements that played over the airwaves, how regulation shaped the behavior of radio station owners, and how radio fit into the lives of touring performers. Robles and Vinsel also discuss recent efforts of historians to capture the history of local radio stations throughout North America. Lee Vinsel is an associate professor in the Department of Science, Technology and Society at Virginia Tech. He studies human life with technology, with particular focus on the relationship between government, business, and technological change. His first book, Moving Violations: Automobiles, Experts, and Regulations in the United States, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press in July 2019. Learn more about your ad choices. https://youtu.be/J_UXtM5qo3c Background Where are you from? I am originally from a little town in Minnesota – St. Michael, Minnesota. I left that community when I was around 19 and lived in different parts of the country. I grew up on a farm. How long have you been in Tucson? I am going on my 13th year in Tucson. What brought you to Tucson? My wife always wanted to live in the desert, and her sister lived in Tucson so we would visit a couple times and we really liked the area. How long have you been retired? I retired in 2007 – 13 years. How has retirement been for you? When I retired I didn't see myself playing golf or doing a lot of the things that people dream about doing. I really didn't know what I was going to do, actually. So when I became familiar with No More Deaths and what was going on in the border I jumped into it with both feet. No More Deaths How long have you been a volunteer with NMD? When we had just moved to Tucson, I had no idea of the number of deaths going on in the border. So one of our neighbors invited us to go to a No More Deaths meeting and ever since then we've been a part of the group. Do you (or have you) done other volunteering? With what organizations? The northern Mexico projects – I go to Altar once a month with other volunteers and work with shelters, I've been doing that for the past 6 years. I work with volunteers, gather supplies, donations, with leaders of local shelters and Samaritans. What work does NMD do? The mission of No More Deaths is to end death and suffering on the Mexico-USA border. One of the first things we started was walking the desert trails to put water out, which is something we still do. We do a lot of work on the west side of the desert- 30% of deaths occur there. Besides providing humanitarian aid, we began to do something called abuse-documentation due to people reporting how badly they were treated in short-term custody. We help with a free clinic in Tucson – Keep Tucson Together – and a Missing Migrant hotline, to help keep people out of detention centers. We also do donations, camps. Can you tell a bit of history about NMD? A lot of desert-aide work, walking out on the trails – mobile camps, humanitarian aid. Search and rescue. It has gotten much bigger, it used to be just desert-aid and work in Nogales, but we've developed many new services, like the Keep Tucson Together clinic. When we first started we had a budget of about $100k or less, now our budget is around $1 million. We've gone from all volunteers to now hiring staff to handle whatever the volunteers can't. We've expanded mostly all along the desert. What part of NMD work interests you most? Why? I used to be in the desert quite a bit – but that changed for me, I don't tolerate the heat as much – so we attract a lot of people that volunteer in the desert. But I am part of all the different branches of services that we do, like traveling with donations. What attracted you to volunteering with NMD? My parents always believed in looking out for our neighbors, so that translated for me into mostly working in the service fields – like education and mental health. When we did part of our training and we went out to the field, we had an experience with a man who was around 40 years old who had been left in a ditch for about two-three days with no food and water- I couldn't believe what I had just experienced, it feels unreal. It was my first major awareness that something awful was happening in our beautiful desert. Situation What are the biggest issues NMD is addressing right now? The detention centers with COVID is a big part right now. We also do a lot of focus on bonds – the KTT – the leadership legal clinic. We had a GoFundMe effort where we raised $40k for migrants. We are also in the processes of putting a newspaper out. We are mainly devoted to trying to raise money, providing medical attention,

A story from the Mexico / USA border. We're not just for English learners! Listen, enjoy and subscribe on Spotify, Apple podcasts and everywhere! Unexpected English brings you another spontaneous interview from the streets. Check out our past episodes for more interesting stories! ** RoughTranscript ** So here I am in downtown San Diego at another restaurant talking to the hostess outside, and she told me that she lives in ... Tijuana, Mexico ... I thought it would be interesting to do a little podcast because here in San Diego we're right on the border and you're proof of that I guess? Yes sir, one of the many people that commute across two countries to go to work and live. So every day, how do you get to work? So, I leave my house at 4:40 in the morning to walk 20 minutes to a local bus station and I take the 5 AM bus that drops me off at the border at 5:30 in the morning. I do about one hour and a half wait time which it makes it about seven in the morning. Wait a minute now, they drop you off and then you have to wait an hour and a half for what? To cross the border from Mexico to United States. In the bus? No, the bus drops me off to the, umm, walking way to cross to the US. Alright, what we call La Linea, right? La linea. OK, then and from there, there's so many people it takes an hour.... an hour, an hour and a half roughly if it's during peak hours which usually are in the morning because many of us work early or have school. OK, so she's got an hour. hour and a half wait to get across the border, and then once you get across... I take the trolley, the Blue Line from the San Isidro station all the way to 12th and Imperial, which takes about 30 to 40 minutes, and then I get off. I transfer to the Green Line which takes me from 12th and Imperial to County Center and Little Italy, where I get off and I walk about five minutes to get to work. So all together the trolley time is... it depends on the day, like an hour-ish, maybe more. OK, so an hour on the trolley, an hour waiting.... (someone interrupts…) OK, well, we had a little interruption because somebody was looking for a bathroom but I think you got the idea! So that's it, thanks for listening! **** OK people, now show your friends how to subscribe! That will make me happy, and I need to be happy to do more interviews and create your podcasts for you. Let's do this!

Hey 2 Babe Listeners, After our short break, we've come back with a very special episode for you guys! Our guest host for this episode is Agustín Picado, President at UPS Mexico who knows all about shared production and why it's so beneficial. So what is shared production? Augie gave an example during the interview explaining that shared production is "like a school project" and everyone working on that project brings a special skill to the table. You may have someone on your team that's really good at writing, another specializes in analyzing data, and another person is a great presenter. Shared production is made of all of those components and people involved and presented as the "finished product" by the presenter of the group. Companies focus on what they do best and most efficiently and then they trade for the rest. This means that these companies can reside in different parts of the world but have those special skills needed to put together a great finished product, which a final company assembles. This kind of shared production boosts the economies of the countries the companies involved reside in and it also makes for a higher quality finished product because each company focuses on what they truly do best.  Ground freight is heavily used between Mexico, USA and Canada. With the recent discussions about putting up a wall along the Mexico/USA border and the upcoming changes to NAFTA, this puts shared production at risk. The impending NAFTA changes and the proposed building of the wall are not just physical barriers but barriers that impede the flow of people and goods. Delays begin to stack up and will make the crossing of goods and people less reliable and more costly which will ultimately affect the customer.  Please download and listen to this episode to find out all about shared production and Augie's insight into the future of moving product across borders not only within North America but around the world as well as the future of UPS Mexico as they continue to adapt to these changes. You can also check out Augie's TED Talk on the current state of Manufacturing jobs here. ___ The Mexico City earthquake that took place a few weeks ago left a devastating impact on the residents of the city leaving many with little to no resources to help rebuild their homes and lives back to the way they were before.  Augie set up a relief fund to help his team members who were severely impacted by the earthquake that left them in a very difficult financial situation. If you'd like to donate and help them rebuild their homes, please visit: https://www.youcaring.com/upsmexicoemployeesimpactedbytheearthquake-959996
