A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach
Ideas come to us at any moment and if we don't capture them right away, they may leave us forever. This is why it's important to have a note taking system. But that's only step one because writing down ideas doesn't do much. You need to transfer the ideas so you take action. These two tandem notions are what I explore and explain in this episode. After listening, kindly feel free to ask questions or offer opinions of your own, whether down in the comment section or by hitting me up on social media @PhilSvitek. Your on your quest for the BEST NOTE-TAKING app. That is what I will be discussing today as I review Bear against Joplin and let you know who should use the apps. Bear is the new kid on the block whereas, Joplin is free open source software made to replace Evernote. #BestNote-TakingApp #BEAR #Joplin
This was another good one. Now that I wrote that, I guess that's what were supposed to say anyway lol. Today we tapped into some relationship pointers and some Instagram posts rules and regulations pertaining specific kinds of post. Like, Comment, and Subscribe like its a youtube channel or something! I feel like thats how we supposed to end the description.
Over the course of the last twenty years, I've been especially interested in tracking with youth culture trends that are related to the emergence of a host of new technologies and technological tools. A new study of Japanese college students has revealed that writing on a physical piece of paper can actually serve as a better path to information recall than writing on a tablet or smartphone. It seems that when writing on paper as opposed to a screen, the human brain engages in ways that are more complex, thus leading to improved memory. In addition, it was found that taking notes on paper is actually about twenty-five percent faster than taking notes on a screen. Could it be that old-school paper is more effective for note-taking than our screens? Yes. And that goes against what many believe to be the case. Here at CPYU we encourage balancing the use of physical paper and books for reading and writing, with reading and writing on screens. Encourage balance in your kids.

Today I'm talking about a supercharged strategy for note-taking, because as a builder your lifeblood is information. It's heavily inspired by David Perell who developed a method for note-taking called The Information Capture Process. Also big thanks to Tiago Forte and his amazing Progressive Summarization technique.

Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development Podcast by Daryl Chow, Ph.D.
I believe one of the most critical things you can do is to create a personalised learning system (PLS). Though the payoff is not immediate, but like growing a seed, the benefit is tremendous, especially if you value personal and professional development. In this episode of Frontiers Radio, I take you down a road trip of my note-taking system, and why, after over 10 years, I'm now making a switch to an app call Obsidian. #Notion is one of the most discussed #productivity app on YouTube. The new kid on the block is called #Obsidian. Let's compare these two apps and figure out which might work well for you.
The pen is mightier than the laptop when it comes to notetaking. Or so we used to think. Daryl O’Connor, Professor of Psychology at the University of Leeds, breaks the news to Claudia Hammond that one of her favourite studies showing writing notes rather than typing them is best, hasn’t been replicated. Apparently it’s how much you write – on a computer or on paper – that predicts success. There have been more than 1100 entries for the All in the Mind Awards and in the Professionals category, 30 year old Libby, who has an eating disorder, nominates her GP, Dr Celia Belk. They’re now finalists and they tell Claudia about their special doctor-patient relationship. It’s two weeks since the former Minneapolis police officer, a white man, Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, who was black. Millions around the world saw the distressing film of his killing but researchers in Utah in the US decided to measure, using big data, how much hearing about racist killings like this, affect the mental health of black Americans. Dr David Curtis tells Claudia that his team selected 49 high profile cases of either police killing black people, a failure to indict officers accused of such killings, or white supremacist murders. And the results show worsening mental health for black, not white, Americans in weeks where there are two or more of these high profile cases. And Daryl O’Connor also reports on another American study, this one from the emerging area of research into micro-aggressions – denigrating somebody because of their ethnicity by micro assaults, micro insults and micro invalidations. This research shows exposure to microaggressions is linked to worse PTSD symptoms. Produced in association with The Open University Producer: Fiona Hill

Resourceful entrepreneurs and business owners are always looking for ways to save time and increase productivity. Note taking saves us time and and also costs us time, time that we can't ever get back. It saves us time because we record information we need and want to retain... It costs us time because: 1) it can be hard to find the note we know we have, but can't find, easily or quickly when we really need it. 2) it's hard to share notes with others. We have to take a picture then sent it to ourselves and then email it or worse scan it and then send it. I developed a note taking system and used it for over a decade, but I still had trouble finding notes and sharing them. I found the best note taking solution so far, have been testing it for over four months and lay the whole thing out for you in this episode. And yes, it saves time and increases your productivity! 4/2/2021 Note: Taking a mental health reset this week so replaying one of my fav convos with someone I now consider a great friend!! Nora McInerny is hot and tall and hysterical and she joins us today because I am trying to be her third husband. I have maybe never laughed harder in my life as we recorded this and Nora is a woman who has made a living out of talking about grief. Many of you told me Nora was a national treasure. Many of you...are correct.Follow along with recs (and share your own via DM) on the “Gee Thanks, Just Bought It!” Instagram: www.instagram.com/geethanksjustboughtitpodNora and I discuss literally who can even say, because I blacked out while recording this and all I remember is cackling for over an hour! Her product pick is a good antidote to the airpod life, and I am starting to suspect all of the best authors are working out before they sit down to write, which means I will never write another book again.Mentioned On This Episode!Subtext Books in MN: https://subtextbooks.com/books?category=Nora+McInernyBAD MOMS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_MomsArctic Tumblr: https://amzn.to/2TOzigtBose Headphones (Noise Cancelling): https://amzn.to/3dcFcjkMore inexpensive alternative: https://amzn.to/3dcYZPA See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

A Book on Notetaking? It’s Not What You Might Expect Amazon showed me Sönke Ahrens’s How to Take Smart Notes: One Simple Technique to Boost Writing, Learning and Thinking – for Students, Academics and Nonfiction Book Writers about twenty times in sponsored posts before I finally broke down to see what it was all about. I decided to retrieve a sample chapter on my Kindle. I couldn’t put the book down and read it well into the night. My wife even asked me what in the world I was reading, to which I sheepishly confessed it was a book on taking notes. This book is not about Reformed theology, church history, or even philosophy, but I’m confident many of you will be intrigued. I loved this book so much that I ordered several copies to give as gifts to friends. This book isn’t what you might expect. It’s not a self-help book with tips for becoming a better student, for listening better, and capturing your thoughts for better processing and recall later on. I believe that following the model suggested in this book may in fact make you a better student and researcher. It will certainly help you to process your thoughts. But this book goes much deeper than a series of tips and tricks. It’s a proposition for a more disciplined—yet much more liberating—process of contemplation and writing. The Heart of the Book At the heart of Ahren’s How to Take Smart Notes is a somewhat idiosyncratic notetaking system developed by German sociologist Niklaus Luhmann. He used a system that is known as a Zettelkasten, or notes box. Ahrens categorizes notes into three types. • Ephemeral notes (these get thrown out) • Literature notes (write these as you read a book, but keep them separate) • Zettelkasten (process your literature notes and write permanent notes—one per idea) Link your note to the other notes in your existing network or note-ideas. In my conceptualization, Luhmann’s method is a form of atomic writing. You must force yourself to formulate your thoughts and write them as if writing them for someone else. This can be difficult, and you may find much personal inertia to this approach. That’s because you think you know the subject matter better than you do. Writing is the thinking process. By using this method, Luhmann was able to write more than 70 books and 400 scholarly articles before he died at the age of 70. That is impressive. But perhaps even more impressive than his scholarly output is the nature of his scholarship. He was able to approach subjects in fresh ways, finding surprising connections among disparate disciplines. This was due in part to the unexpected connections made by his Zettelkasten. Luhmann wrote his notes on cards and filed them in a physical catalogue. There is much to be said about the benefits of handwriting and the tactile qualities of this form of note-taking, yet there are also many limitations—particularly with linking and searchability. For those who are interested in a digital approach to Zettelkasten, an entire ecosystem is developing around what generally is called Personal Knowledge Management (PKM). People not only use the Zettelkasten method and its variants for academic research and writing, but also for all types of creative work, personal journaling, and even for CRM (customer/constituent relationship management). I am currently exploring how to link my thoughts as I read and contemplate Scripture. Intelligently linking all the Scripture references in my notes and sermons may prove to be immensely useful when approaching related texts in the future.

When selecting the best note-taking app, there are two clear winners: Microsoft OneNote and Evernote. As with all apps, each has its pluses and minuses. If you are looking for a free app, then look no further than OneNote. It comes with Window 10 and is available as a free standalone product. Evernote has a different structure that makes it easier to organize, tag, find and share information, as long as you are willing to pay for the app. OneNote and Evernote are available for desktop and mobile devices, and of course, you can access both through a web browser. But each app also has some distinct differences. Whether you will prefer OneNote or Evernote depends on how you use it and what value you want in an app.
There are a ton of note-taking apps available today. Evernote has been along since the beginning and is the King of the Note-taking apps. BUT can Joplin beat Evernote?
The evolution of our marriage is also the evolution of how I learned to take, with Sonya's guidance, ever better notes. We talk about the various systems we adopted and discarded to arrive at something, with my book on Birmingham, is truly efficient, and in no-small part awesome. The better a writer's notes system, the less frustration he encounters in writing a book.
Ever wished you could remember everything you learn, take better notes, recall what you read and access it anytime? You don't need to be a genius, you need a "Second Brain"... that's what Tiago Forte of Forte Labs developed, a systematic and comprehensive way to get more out of everything you learn with a uniquely effective way to take digital notes. This is a special video episode, so feel free to visit https://baconwrappedbusiness.com/tiagoforte-secondbrain and watch He's the founder of BuildingASecondBrain.com and joins me on the show today as we geek out about knowledge. BONUS: Part 2 Begins 35 minutes in as Tiago turns the table and interviews me (Brad Costanzo) about how to buy and sell course based products, what makes a company valuable and sellable and out-of-the-box ways to do creative deals and monetize your knowledge.
Note-Taking used to be simple. You pick up a piece of paper and a pen and start writing. Thanks to Charles Babbage, who invented the computer, we now have many choices for taking notes. We can use the old fashion way of pen and paper or use applications on our phones, tablets, or computers. Furthermore, there are tons of note-taking apps available to us today. For instance, Microsoft OneNote, Apple Notes, Evernote, Google Keep, Simplenote, Notion, and Joplin. And these are not all of them, as there are tons more. With so many applications within our reach, it is hard to know which app is right for you.
In this episode, John Mihaljevic hosts a discussion of (1) note-taking, cloning, and idol worship; and (2) a quote by Marathon Asset Management: "The stock market is really a market in replacement capital: if new capacity is urgently needed in any sector, a boom can be relied upon to produce the necessary capital."Phil Ordway talks about note-taking while reading, the usefulness of sound bites, cloning, idol worship, and a document he made about a decade ago. We discuss the benefits of journaling and some of the nuances around copying the investments of so-called superinvestors.Elliot Turner talks about the Marathon quote mentioned above, and what it means to him. We discuss the level of investment in the economy and specific sectors. We attempt to draw conclusions regarding the equity market outlook, albeit without much conviction.Enjoy the discussion! The content of this podcast is not an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy any security in any jurisdiction. Joplin is a free open-source application for handling your note taking and to-do lists. The developer does not charge for using the application but does accept donations. The application helps you write and organize your notes and synchronize them between your devices. In fact, the notes are searchable, can be copied, tagged, and modified from within the application or using your own text editor. Joplin uses the Markdown format the same as Notion. Joplin can be downloaded on a desktop, mobile and terminal application.
