Interview with Bill Million of The Feelies Formed in Haledon NJ in the 1970's, The Feelies have now released six albums including their critically acclaimed and influential debut Crazy Rhythms, which was voted 49 in the top 100 albums of the 1980s by Rolling Stone magazine and chosen by Spin Magazine as #49 of the best alternative records of all time. Their music has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock and roll. Supporting the release of their first four albums the band appeared on the The Late Show With David Letterman and in concerts with The Patti Smith Group, R.E.M., and Bob Dylan as well as touring with Lou Reed. In 2008, the Feelies ended a 17-year sabbatical as a group to open for long-time admirers Sonic Youth at Battery Park and then resurrected their tradition of playing low key gigs at strategic intervals throughout the year rather than doing lengthy tours. In 2009, they were invited by R.E.M. to perform at Carnegie Hall in “The Music of REM” charity concert benefitting music education programs for underprivileged youth, then by the artist Dan Graham to play an acoustic set at the opening of his first American retrospective, held at the Whitney Museum: Dan Graham: Beyond at the Whitney Museum of American Art. That same year Bar/None re-issued Crazy Rhythms and The Good Earth, this being the first band-sanctioned CD release of the former. In 2011, they released a new studio album Here Before of which England's The Wire enthused, “Here Before picks up as though they'd never left. The second line- up is fully present, and the basics of their sound have filtered through so many younger bands (from Yo La Tengo to SF Seals to The Chills) that the music possesses a great kind of faux- familiarity. ‘Time Is Right' sounds something like The Terminals doing a Stooges tribute tune. It - and some of the Velvets riff - lifts that occur during the album's later moments- make me remember how nuts this group seemed 30-plus years ago.” In honor of their 40th Anniversary Bar/None Records re-released their third and fourth albums,Only Life and Time for a Witness in early 2015. How to Change the World (Reboot): An Antidote to Apathy and Despair in an Age of Doom and Gloom

Andrew Petty is Dying

Play Episode Listen Later May 15, 2023 8:44

Today's episode is a timely reboot from the archives. It's a reminder we can all benefit from and something we tend to lose sight of all too easily. It's an antidote to apathy and despair in an age of doom and gloom.   Doom and Gloom Abounds If environmental armageddon doesn't get us first, then a hostile nation's plans for global domination will. Maybe the Republicans will sink the ship and all hands will be lost. Or maybe it'll be the Democrats doing. What about AI--the potential for hyper-intelligent machines to take over the world and eradicate or enslave humanity? You thought COVID was tough? Just wait until the next super virus is unleashed by nameless, faceless, malevolent forces plotting our demise even as we speak.  Take your pick. There are no shortage of dire, doom and gloom scenarios to choose from these days. And the media and the internet serve up heaping quantities of it onto our psychological plates if we get in line for the 24/7 buffet.  I'm NOT saying, BTW, that there aren't genuine reasons to be concerned about the state of the world. There are--and, there always have been. In the modern digital age, though, it's possible to be aware of most of the challenges facing the world--or, at least, the existing portrayals of those challenges--and to be aware of them most of the time. That's infinitely more knowledge and awareness than any one of us can hold well in our hearts and minds or possibly act upon. And if we're not careful, it can lead us to despair, despondency, and inaction.  Where does that leave us, then? What CAN we do?  Good questions.  How do we change the world?   It's Simple, Actually I'm not going to bury the lead here. Let's get right to the point.  To change the world, simply be the best “you” that you can possibly be.  Profoundly simple. And FAR from easy. If it was easy, more of us would embrace it and live it out.  It's also far from a new idea. “Be the change you want to see in the world” is a statement derived from ideas that Gandhi put forth. As is “if you want to change the world, go home and love your family”--that one derived from Mother Teresa's way of thinking. Today, in his book 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, Jordan Peterson sounds a similar note when he exhorts us all to “get our own house in perfect order” before we criticize the world or, by extrapolation, try to change the whole world.  It's not a new idea, but it seems to be one that needs to be revived in our hearts and minds these days. We forget. And we get swept up in the myriad of massive global concerns and take our eye off the ball right in front of us--the only ball that is really ours to carry. The ball of our One and Only Life, our unique path, and the purposes we alone can accomplish along that path.  We need to return to this simple idea and double-down on it in our own lives. As Natalie Niksa said in the previous episode, “we've lost our way because of all the shiny objects.” And in returning to this priority, we'll revitalize our personal power, passion, and purpose and reduce our sense of paralysis and powerlessness in the face of all of the world's woes. Then, we can really get to work, right where we are, with what we have.     Breaking It Down  But what does it mean to “be the best you that you can possibly be,” and how does that actually change the world?  It means taking radical responsibility for yourself. It means working your ass off to discover and express your unique self as fully as you can and bring your unique gifts into the world. It means dreaming the dreams that exist only within your heart and doing your damndest to fulfill them. It means doing the work to become the person you were made to be and live the life you were made to live. It means working your ass off to be the best spouse, partner, parent, neighbor, and employee, employer, or entrepreneur that you can be. It means dragging yourself over the finish line of your life utterly depleted AND utterly satisfied because you left it all out on the field.  For some, those efforts will yield global recognition and impact. For others of us, our efforts will only ever be known among those closest to us. Guess what? The scope and scale of our impact is irrelevant and, frankly, none of our business. It's not even knowable, in fact. We have no way of knowing how much of a difference our life will make--now, and in the years and generations to come. Our lives ripple into eternity, just like those before us ripple into ours.    Keep It Positive Make no mistake, though: There's no such thing as a neutral or no-impact life.  We don't get to control IF our life will make an impact or know how much of an impact we ultimately make, but we do get to influence what KIND of impact we'll make. Will it be negative because we shrank back, didn't take full responsibility for our One and Only life, and failed to show up--and our absence was a loss for those who needed us to show up? Or will it be positive--not because we showed up perfectly all the time, but rather because we did our very best to simply show up, to bring the best of ourselves to this fleeting life, day in and day out?  Carl Jung said that the greatest burden a child can take into adulthood is the unlived life of their parent.  In a slightly sillier context but with no less relevance, in the Lego movie Ninjago, Lloyd the good ninja tells his dad, the movie's arch villain, that he ruined his life. To which his dad, Lord Garmadon, replies, scoffingly, “How could I ruin your life? I wasn't even there.”    But How Does It Change the World?  If all of that at least makes a dent in understanding HOW to “be the best you that you can possibly be,” then that leaves the question of how it actually changes the world.  When we take responsibility for being the best versions of ourselves that we can possibly be, then we change ourselves. When we change ourselves, we change our world--the little part of the world that we call our own. Our family life changes, our work life changes, our community life changes. Then, as our world changes, by definition the world changes as the ripples move outward from us at the epicenter.  Change your life...change your world...change the world. That, my friends, is how we change the world.    Buckle Up, Buttercup The good news is that it's so simple. Our primary focus becomes simply evolving ourselves. As I said at the beginning, though, it's far from easy. There's no journey more challenging. But there's also no journey more completely satisfying and worthwhile. And if you're looking for more purpose and meaning, this journey will fill that cup to overflowing.  So buckle up, buttercup, and get to work becoming the best you that you can possibly be.  And remember, you are going to die. But you're not dead yet. So get after it!   Change the World in The Graveyard Group The Graveyard Group was created precisely for the purpose of helping you become the very best you that you can be. It combines the unsurpassed motivational horsepower of the Mortality Mindset with the force multiplying influence of your very own confidential board of advisors. Ah!, gràcies a Xivi per fer-me costat mentre preparo Crema d'estrelles. Jordi Via, Terrassa, gener de 2023.

Susan, your host, welcomes Maria Verdeschi to today's episode. She is an acclaimed Psychic Medium, Speaker, Best-Selling Author, Teacher, and Coach with clients all over the world. Her extraordinary ability to communicate with spirit began at the age of four while living on Long Island. Now with over a decade of experience, Maria is well known for her accuracy and delivery of evidential messages from departed loved ones. Her kindness and compassion are unmatched. She has a genuine interest in each client that provides for a relaxed and down-to-earth reading.   Maria is the host of the spiritual podcast Hello From The Other Side and is a co-host of the Blog Talk Radio show Reading The Signs. Her best-selling book There Is No Death, Only Life, with a foreword written by Celebrity Medium Thomas John, has provided support to readers while healing from grief, and she is a contributing author in the best-selling book The Last Breath. Her successful coaching and mentorship program features classes on Mediumship, Connecting with Your Loved Ones in Spirit, Meditation, and Manifesting. In addition, she is a Master Reiki Practitioner proficient in Pranic Healing. Her ability to connect with teachers, students, clients, guides, and departed loved ones is nothing short of astonishing. Most important to Maria is that people understand the simple truth that, “there is no death — only life.”   Key Takeaways: Maria shares how she discovered she had psychic abilities at the age of four and decided to keep that to herself for a long time. Maria believes everyone can have a psychic ability to a certain degree. The more that you acknowledge the signs, the more they will come in. Our loved ones want us to know that they love us, they want us to save time and money and move forward and be happy. Can our deceased loved ones have an influence over our lives? Maria affirms they can. Maria explains how to tell the difference between a message from the other side and what we want to hear. Maria suggests stopping second-guessing yourself when you think you have received a message from the other side, quieting your logical mind. How can you prepare yourself to hear messages? Gratitude is a practice that will help you connect with your loved ones from the other side. Maria talks about the most common ways people receive messages from the other side. Maria gives advice on sharpening your senses to be able to connect with your loved one who passed away. If you think it is not happening to you, that you cannot receive any signs, stop and breathe, since your frustration brings your energy down, keep a higher vibration in order to hear the messages from the other side. When is the right time to visit a psychic medium and when isn't? Maria talks about what someone can expect from seeing a psychic medium: Closure, comfort, clarity, and peace.   Resources Tendrilsofgrief.com Email Susan: susan@tendrilsofgrief.com   Meet Maria Verdeschi Visit Maria Verdeschi's website Follow Maria on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok

We are the ones that can make a rainy day into a sunny day." - Maria VerdeschiToday I share a conversation with Psychic Medium Maria Verdeschi shares how our loved ones on the other side help us realize we are dealing with a narcissist in a relationship. How you realize your Lover is a Narcissist by Receiving a Message from your Spirit Guide Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mariaverdeschi (@mariaverdeschi) https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.mariaverdeschi.com/&sa=D&source=calendar&usd=2&usg=AOvVaw01MqPtAsnh-fdaj9f-2HvK (https://www.mariaverdeschi.com/) Maria Verdeschi is a highly regarded Psychic/Medium, Speaker, Teacher and Coach with clients all over the world. Many simply state, “She is the real deal.” From the minute you step into a reading with Maria, she will make you feel relaxed and at ease. Maria explains to you how to be a good sitter. She will tell you about her process in giving a reading and includes examples. Maria is also the best-selling author of There Is No Death, Only Life, with a foreword written by Celebrity Medium Thomas John, and Maria is one of the authors in the best selling book The Last Breath. Maria has mentored and done many events with Celebrity Medium Thomas John, and mentoring and classes with Andy Byng. Maria is compassionate about people understanding the simple truth of “There is no death, only life” It's “ Until We Meet Again .” Here are some key moments: From someone who speaks to the dead all the time... there is no hell In a reading your loved one comes in and share what is happening in a toxic relationship Younger souls disappoint us, empaths are old souls Shoving down our feelings and triggers does not serve us. We need to work through those emotions to heal and evolve. Narcissists are not only in religions but can be in alternative spirtuality Narcissist can pick empaths out of a crowd and prey on us. Maria is so passionate about this topic of narcissism, because just like you as a highly sensitive person and empath has had her fair share of narcissist manipulate her open and good nature. Hey friends! Get ready for a juicy and honest conversation I had with my Tiktok and IG friend Tailah Scroggins! We go there and touch on the heavy topic of new age practices (manifesting our dreams, astrology, horoscopes, zodiac signs, etc.) and how they are not in alignment with God's word. We know many of these practices are so commonplace and we can even believe them to be just "fun and innocent", but after you listen in our my conversation with Tailah, I pray that God really opens your eyes to His truth and that you can see the deception for what is it: a potential doorway to let the enemy into your life and home. We are pulling the curtain back on these lies and exposing them! God is the ONLY Way, ONLY Truth, and ONLY Life. We want to make sure it stays that way in your life, sis. If environmental armageddon doesn't get us first, then a hostile nation's plans for global domination will. I Can Help Maybe you're thinking something like, “how do I know if I'm becoming the best me that I can be? I'm not even sure who I am to start with.” The good news is that who you are, the person you were made to be, and the life you were made to live are discoverable. I can help you with that.  Find me on Facebook, Instagram, or  LinkedIn, visit my website, or email me.  BTW, this episode pairs well with episode 036, The Global Fish Pond Crisis, because it essentially offers a solution to the Global Fish Pond Crisis. This is Satan's ecumenical plan to bring all religions together because the Bible says, the world cannot produce genuine peace, and so the world must continue striving to manufacture it. Unfortunately, it's a synthetic blend of the denial of God's Word and the willful struggle to forget our historically inevitable bend towards human depravity. And so this false philosophy stands as one of a myriad of lies that come against the exclusivity of Christ to be The ONLY way, The ONLY Truth, and The ONLY Life". --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/trunews365/message

Welcome to the miniseries, The Producer's Perspective LIVE! From The Pandemic. Inspired by my podcast and check-ins with friends, I started The Producer’s Perspective LIVE! I started going live every night at 8pm with a superstar TheaterMaker to check in with them and see how they were doing and how this pandemic has affected them.  Many shared how they’ve been keeping those creative juices flowing, sharing many fun memories, raising money and awareness for The Actors Fund and other charitable organizations needing our support. We even started sharing ‘something to make you smile’ by featuring a new music video one of you in the community produced, directed, wrote, performed in! Month Upon a Time, Episode #3 (August): How does one find words to describe the force of nature that is Brooks Ashmanskas? "Funny," "outrageous," "fearless" - they just don't seem to do him justice. Brooks and I crossed like ships in the night 15 years ago, when he made his Broadway debut taking over the role of Bud Frump from me in the last (first) Broadway revival of How to Succeed.... That marked the start of a truly impressive Broadway career that has included such plays and musicals as Dream, Little Me, the Bernadette Peters Gypsy, The Producers, The Ritz, Present Laughter, Promises Promises, and of course his Tony-nominated turn in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. Add to that a bunch of Off Broadway and regional productions and wonderful recordings (Songs for a New World, It's Only Life) and you start to get a sense of how versatile and accomplished and BUSY a guy he is! Big thanks to Dan Adler, who put forward this month's song idea and is about to participate in his fourth consecutive Burning Man! If you don't know what Burning Man is, you should definitely check it out. It seems like an amazing event.... And special thanks to the wonderful composer Debra Barsha for her great song idea, which isn't the central idea for this song but is woven in nonetheless. This episode was recorded August 19, 2011.
