A Florida judge sentenced Lakrisha S. Isaac, 33, to five years in prison on Friday following the fatal shooting of Lashaun Rodgers, 41, during a Memorial Day barbeque in Orlando in 2022. Isaac pleaded no contest in May to charges of manslaughter and culpable negligence for leaving an unloaded firearm within reach of her then 10-year-old daughter, who shot Rodgers. Isaac will receive 128 days credit for time already served. After her release, she will be on probation for three years and must attend a parenting class. The incident occurred when an argument between Isaac and Rodgers turned physical. Isaac handed her daughter a bag containing a gun, and during the ensuing fight, the child allegedly took out the gun and shot Rodgers. Rodgers died the following day after being taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. During the sentencing, Judge Kevin B. Weiss expressed condolences to the Rodgers family. “To the family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes we find justice in other ways. If this is something you are struggling with, I can tell you that each and every one of us understands your struggle,” he said. Rodgers' sister, Sharetta Rodgers, conveyed the family's ongoing pain. “Not a second, not a minute, not a day goes by without us living the hurt and devastation, the pain and fear you caused on the family,” she said, as reported by local ABC affiliate WFTV. When asked what message she had for Isaac, she responded bluntly, “F– you.” Officers from the Orlando Police Department responded to 911 calls about the shooting on May 30, 2022. Upon arrival, they found Rodgers with a gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses, including Rodgers' boyfriend, described an intoxicated Isaac initiating a physical confrontation with Rodgers, which led to the shooting by Isaac's daughter. Rodgers' boyfriend and other witnesses corroborated the sequence of events, stating that Isaac handed her daughter the bag with the gun, and after the initial punches were exchanged, the child shot Rodgers while shouting, "She shouldn't have hit my momma." Isaac then reportedly took the firearm from her daughter and pointed it at Rodgers' boyfriend. The daughter has been held in a detention center for the past two years since a judge denied her request for release on an ankle monitor shortly after her arrest. The current status of her case remains uncertain. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In June of 2018, just two years after the PULS nightclub attacks, Orlando Police officers responded to a domestic violence call. As officers attempted to contact the suspect, he fired a shot though his door striking Officer Kevin Valencia with wounds that he would eventually succumb to. The suspect then barricaded in his apartment with his 4 children as hostages. This event, which would last more than 24 hours, proved extremely difficult and required the resources of both the Orlando Police Department SWAT Team and their partners from the Orange County Sherriff's SWAT Team before finally reaching a tragic resolution. My guests today are Dep. Chief Jonathan Bigelow from the Orlando Police Department and Sgt. Chris Eklund with the Orange County Florida Sherriff's Office to discuss the incident and share their lessons learned. This episode will be dedicated to the memory of Officer Kevin Valencia.Books RecommendedThe Common Sense Way: A New Way to Think About Leading and Organizing – Pete Blaber ISBN-13: 978-0578876740Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't – Simon Sinek - ISBN-13: 978-1591848011Sound Doctrine: A Tactical Primer – Charles Sid Heal - ISBN-13: 978-1930051119The World's Most Powerful Leadership Principle - How To Become A Servant Leader - James C. February 18, 1976. Orlando, Florida. 15-year old Linda Kerr leaves her home in order to walk to her boyfriend's residence, but she never arrives and is subsequently reported missing. Hi all and welcome to this hot topic Not Boring Workout we’re calling The Heart-Pumping Guide to the Women Who Might Be One Heartbeat Away from Being President Workout. Why is it a heart-pumping guide? Because today is going to be all about cardio...and Biden’s shortlist of running mates. So, start by jogging in place.During this workout, and all of our workouts, you never need to worry about counting reps or keeping time. Each exercise will be described and then you will simply repeat or hold that exercise until I say stop. There’s a handy little bell-sound too. Ding.Good. Keep going but let’s add in high-knees. This is kind of like a quick march but with each step you want to raise your knee up and touch it with your opposite elbow. Left knee to right elbow. Right knee to left elbow. Quick quick quick. As soon as it became clear that Joe Biden, for reasons I still can’t quite fathom, was going to be the Democrats presidential candidate, it also became clear that he would select a woman to be his VP.There have only been two previous female candidates for VP which is pretty crazy. The first was Democrat Geraldine Ferarro who ran with Walter Mondale. They lost in a total landslide to Ronald Regan and George H.W. Bush in 1984. And then there was the pride and joy of Alaska, Republican Sarah Palin who was John McCain’s unfortunate pick to run with him against Barack Obama and um, oh yeah, Joe Biden.Ding.Time for jumping jacks. If I was actually doing this workout with you this would be my favorite part. I love jumping jacks. Makes me feel like a kid. So, jump kids! Jump! It’s pretty fair to say that neither McCain nor Mondale were likely contenders to begin with but considering how things have been going lately Biden’s chances are looking up. That means there is a real chance that we’ll see our first female VP in 2020. And not to be morbid but Biden will be 78 when he takes office and has already hinted that he might be one-n-done meaning his VP will probably be the Democratic presidential candidate in 2024.When it comes to the current VP options, there have been quite a few names tossed around. And team Biden is keeping its cards close to the chest. That said, we’ve got a pretty good idea of who’s being considered.Ding.Heart rate going up? Good. Time for squats. You can do them fast or you can do them slow but you gotta keep doing them until I say stop. If you don’t know how to do them, stand with your feet a bit wider than hip-width apart. Bend your knees like you are going to sit in a chair. As your thighs get close to 90 degrees, stand back up. Try to keep your chest up and back straight. Keep going. At first, it looked like it could be fellow really old person Elizabeth Warren or the younger but kind of uninspiring Amy Klobuchar. But as much of the country continues to protest against rampant systemic racism and demands more diverse representation in both government and corporations there is no question that Biden should and almost definitely will select a woman of color to join him on the campaign trail.Yeah, I know, polls still have Warren in the mix but I just can’t see it happening. She’ll make an amazing Secretary of State or Treasury and I don’t even think she’d accept the offer in the current climate. So, let’s take a closer look at the women most likely to end up a heartbeat away from the oval office.Ding.Told ya this was a hard workout. And now it’s time for Mountain Climbers. Place your hands flat on the floor, shoulder width apart. Extend your legs fully behind you with only your toes and balls of your feet touching the floor. Your body should be in a straight line, with your weight supported on your hands and toes only. Starting with either leg, flex your knee and hip at the same time to bring your knee up to your chest. Your other leg should remain fully extended. Now reverse the position of your legs, by extending the bent leg back and simultaneously flexing the straight leg until it is in the start position. It’s kind of like running in a pushup position. Go go go!The current frontrunner is the 55-year-old former candidate and current Senator from California Kamala Harris. If we were picking based on parents, Harris would probably win by a mile. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a Tamil Indian breast-cancer scientist who immigrated from India in 1960. Her father, Donald Harris, is a Stanford University Emeritus Professor of Economics, who emigrated from Jamaica in 1961. Pretty sweet genes.Harris started off as a lawyer and made her way up the ranks of the California District Attorney’s office. In 2004, she was elected District Attorney of San Francisco and then in 2010, Harris won the election as California's Attorney General where she served until 2016 when she became California's third female U.S. Senator, and the first of either Jamaican or Indian ancestryAlthough her own bid for the presidency came to an end during the primaries, she was strong on the debate stage and her experience in the Senate means she’s got a solid perspective on current players and issues on capital hill.Ding.Alright, time for a sort of a break. Lie down on your back, keeping your knees bent. Time for heal-touchers. Fully extend your arms down the side of your body, palms facing in. This is the start position. Exhaling, crunch your torso forward and to the right until you can touch your right heel with your right hand. Hold for a count of one. Return to the starting position smooth motion, inhaling as you do so. Repeat the movement, this time to your left side. Keep going.Word on the street is that Jill Biden might not be the biggest fan of Kamala Harris and with Joe spending all his time at home Jill is certainly getting her opinions heard. So, next on the likely-list is Val Demings. While the moniker “Florida Man” inspires ridicule, Demings makes a strong case for why a “Florida Woman” might be the right choice for this crucial moment in our nation’s history. Born in Jacksonville in 1957 to working class parents, Demings attended segregated schools in 1960’s before obtaining her degree in Criminology from Florida State university in 1979. She returned to Webster University and earned a master’s degree in Public Administration in 1996.More to the point, Dennings joined the Orlando Police Department in 1983. She started off as a beat cop and eventually became the city’s first black Chief of Police in 2007, serving until 2011. This seems to be both a pro and a con according to the “pundits” - Orlando cops have a pretty terrible record of all the bad things cops do and Demings was in charge for a while. On the other hand, she has a deep understanding of just how broken the system is and might know what it will take to change it.Demings is currently serving in the US House of Representatives and played a big role in the Trump impeachment hearings, so she knows her way around the swamp.Ding.Ok, just because I care so much about you, stay on your backs. Let’s do some hip thrusts. All ya gotta do is keep you legs bent, feet flat on the floor. Put your hands to your sides and lift your hips up off the ground. Give a little core squeeze at the top and then lower back down. Repeat! Up. Down. Up. Down. Keep going.Which brings us to Susan Rice, who you might remember from her time in the Obama administration where she served as both the National Security Advisor and Ambassador to the United Nations.Rice is a DC native, born in 1964 to some seriously smart parents. Mom was an education policy scholar and dad was an economics professor. Clearly not one to rest on her laurels (love that phrase!) Rice was a 3-sport varsity athlete, school president and Valedictorian in high school, got her BA in history from Stanford and then went to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar for her Masters and then Doctorate in Philosophy and International Relations. Damn. While part of the Obama administration Rice was heavily involved in both the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris Climate Accords. She also faced criticism for her role in the Benghazi affair, which could be made into an issue should she be selected. There’s no question Rice has the international experience edge but she’s never held public office so her abilities on the campaign trail are an open question.Ding.Alright, that’s enough lying around. I really only gave you a break because now you have to do Burpees, which suck. If you’ve done them before, get to it! If not, here’s a breakdown. Start standing. In one smooth motion, squat down and place your hands palms down on the floor in front of your feet. Lean forward, so your weight is on your hands, at the same time jumping or walking your legs out behind you until they are fully extended. Your body should form a straight line with your weight supported on your toes and the balls of your feet and your arms fully extended. (In a push up position). Now do a pushup. Then jump or walk your feet forward to just behind your hands. Use an explosive motion to push through your heels and jump up in the air. Once you land, do it again.Atlanta is one of the country’s most dynamic cities and their mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, has proven to be a dynamic leader. Bottoms was born and raised in Atlanta and is the only mayor in Atlanta's history to have served in all three branches of government, serving as a judge and City Councilmember before being sworn in as Mayor. An early Biden supporter, Bottoms was already being vetted before gaining national attention for quickly calling for the firing of the officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks. Bottoms has been an outspoken Trump critic, argued against Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s early re-opening of the state in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and has been pushing hard for police reforms in Atlanta.Probably the biggest knock against her is simply her lack of national political and foreign affairs experience. Considering Biden’s age this could weigh heavy in the final decision making process. Ding. Now, I know you’re feeling pretty winded at this point and we are almost done but we’ve got one more candidate and one more exercise - we’re gonna burn out those arms with arm circles. These kinda creep up on ya. So you’re standing up straight. Put your arms out to your sides in a “T”. Reach through your fingertips and then start making small circles forward. I’ll let you know when to switch directions. Our last contender, and I’ve gotta admit she’s become a bit of longshot, is Stacey Abrams. Born in Wisconsin, raised in Mississippi and then Georgia, Abrams’ parents are both Methodist ministers. Abrams is one of several contenders with a law degree, graduating from the Yale Law School in 1999. She served in the Georgia General Assembly from 2007 to 2017 and then narrowly lost the Georgia Governor’s race in 2018. Ok, switch direction on those arm circles.Abrams gained a lot of attention when she became the first African-American woman to give the Democrat’s response to Trump’s State of the Union address in 2019. She’s a powerful speaker who has been fighting hard against voter suppression as the leader of the Fair Fight Action advocacy group. But while she has made it quite clear she’d love to be the next VP, much like Bottoms, her main obstacle is a lack of major office experience.Ding.That’s it! You did it. No more hard work. Let’s reward that with a nice stretch. Reach your arms up high over, reach, and then reach down for your toes. Hold that. Now back up to the sky. And down to your toes. Do a few more of those nice and slow.Word on the street is that Biden will announce his VP pick sometime in August, which seems pretty soon but is also a long time away all things considered. It’s also still possible Biden will end up picking a white woman but with so many strong women of color in the mix it would be surprising. And disappointing.Ding.So, why don’t you give yourself a nice strong hug. And release. That’s it. We’re done! This just in! From FBI Warnings to facial recognition the world is a scary place. Don't worry, the next story will cheer you right up! Sony has some more bad news with the beginning of the end of the PS4 line. Dang, well, you'll just have to trust us, Good News is Coming in this episode! FBI Issues Router Warning The FBI recommends any owner of small office and home office routers power cycle (reboot) the devices. Foreign cyber actors have compromised hundreds of thousands of home and office routers and other networked devices worldwide. The actors used VPNFilter malware to target small office and home office routers. The malware is able to perform multiple functions, including possible information collection, device exploitation, and blocking network traffic. Orlando Police Testing Amazon's Real-Time Facial Rekognition Tech companies are trying to sell police real-time facial recognition systems, which can track and identify people as they walk down the street. As NPR reported two weeks ago, American police have generally held off, but there's new evidence that one police department — Orlando, Fla. — has decided to try it out. In a written statement, the Orlando Police Department called the Amazon facial recognition system a "pilot program" and said it "will be used in accordance with current and applicable law." Beginning Of The End For The PS4 Sony's has declared he PS4 era is entering its final stages. Speaking to investors, PlayStation boss John Kodera outlined the company's three-year roadmap and it seems console sales are not expected to be a major source of revenue going forward. This is largely due to declining sales which is, Kodera notes, typical of the usual profit- and life-cycle of consoles. It does also suggest a new console might be on its way -- likely the PS5 -- but Kodera didn't give away any specifics other than don't look for a new console before 2021. The Writing Is On The Wall For The Playstation Vita But Not For Sony Portable Gaming The Vita's shelf life is shrinking rapidly -- Sony is ending production of physical game copies and will stop offering free PlayStation Plus Vita games in 2019. It also dropped PlayStation Now support from the console last year. Rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it's necessary to continue thinking of [portable gaming] as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable," Kodera said on last Wednesday. The first part of that sentence especially suggests that mobile gaming will related in some way to the next PlayStation console (probably the PS5). Whether that portends a Nintendo Switch-style hybrid, a controller that has portable features or something else entirely is far from certain.

Everyone in the Orlando area remembers vividly the events that happened in the early morning hours of June 12th, 2016. At 2:02 am, The Pulse Nightclub Shooting began and over the next couple of days the reality of one of the worst shootings in the history of the United States took place. But, for the Orlando Police Department Public Relations Office, June 10th and 11th were very busy days that prepared them for what was about to take the worlds attention. Wanda Miglio and Michelle hold down those responsibilities in a truly team approach to keeping the public informed through the Orlando Police Social Media channels and the main-stream media. The end of Operation Safe Streets took place on June 10th, the culmination of a month long project to help make Orlando safer removing crime guns and offenders from the streets. Later that night, the murder of Christina Grimmie, an up and coming YouTube star who was performing at the Plaza Live Theater, took place. Due to her rising fame and recent success on The Voice the national media ascended on Orlando to cover the story. June 11th, the team made sure that the information about Christina Grimmie went out throughout the day. Add into the mix a couple of full SWAT callouts, they department and the PIOs were kept busy. And then… The Pulse Shooting took place. Wanda and Michelle quickly went into action determining the priorities that had to be identified to effectively do their job. Concerned Citizen Lawanna Gelzer unveils the true purpose of the Orlando Police Department in the Gentrifying Parramore area of Orlando in her usual bold and brutally honest fashion. What's so amazing is that while there never seems to be a shortage of local so called Black ministers and politicians jockeying for the microphone to be seen and heard at the various government sponsored events, these same attention whores are nowhere to be found when it comes time to speak out in truth to the oppressive forces that are killing off our community as the leeches that they are! The Dueling Dragons of Orlando Dragon Boat Team is a partnership between at risk teens and police officers from the Orlando Police Department who team up in a cooperative and competitive boat racing event. The kids come from programs like City’s Operation Positive Direction, Parramore Kidz Zone, and the City's Families, Parks and Recreation Department. Both police officers and kids participate as volunteers in the racing program. Dragon Boats have 20 seats, 41 feet of hull, and require 21 people to paddle. The premise is simple: only by working together will the racers get from point A to point B. In this Special Report, host Laurence Colletti sits down with Andrea Eliscu, founder of Dueling Dragons of Orlando, which was the subject of her presentation at the Business Law Section and International Law Section Joint Luncheon during the 2016 Annual Florida Bar Convention. Since the inception of her program, no participating kid has been arrested, lowered their GPA, or dropped out of school. In addition, no participating officer has been accused of misusing their power while performing their duties as a peace officer. Financially managed by The Orlando Community and Youth Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Dueling Dragons of Orlando is funded by many generous contributions both in time and money. These donations are used to put on racing events and provide meals to participating kids on practice/competition days. Charitable mentions: Harris Rosen NeuroSpine Institute (Dr. Robert Masson) Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation BB&T Bank (They also let the kids job shadow with a banker) TrakMedia Solutions Nob Hill Walt Disney World Universal Studios Frank Santos Susan Potter Norton Special mentions for police guests called to service: City of Orlando Chief of Police John Mina Evelyn Aponte (administrative specialist to the Chief) Andrea Eliscu is the founder of Dueling Dragons of Orlando, a boat racing program which pairs at risk kids and police officers together in a cooperative activity designed to bring peace and understanding to its participants. Ms. Eliscu is a registered nurse and medical marketing specialist with decades of healthcare experience. She founded Medical Marketing Inc. and serves as its president where she provides leadership and guidance to its clients and serves as a resource to local and national industry trade organizations and media on health care related issues.

Dov Baron talks about the recent shooting in Orlando. Was it Islamic terrorism or a Hate Crime? Mass shootings in the USA drive today's episode. From: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/14/us/orlando-shooting.html ORLANDO, Fla. — The gunman who went on a shooting rampage in a popular gay nightclub here shot nearly all of his victims in the first stages of the assault, then was utterly “cool and calm” while he talked by phone to law enforcement officials about further carnage, claimed allegiance to the Islamic State and praised the Boston Marathon bombers, officials said on Monday. As officials offered new details about the worst mass shooting in American history, which left 49 people dead and 53 wounded, Chief John Mina of the Orlando Police Department said that the gunman, Omar Mateen, 29, told police negotiators — falsely, they later discovered — that he had explosives and accomplices at Pulse nightclub. Mr. Mateen eventually made comments persuading them that “there would be an imminent loss of life,” Chief Mina said, prompting the chief to end a three-hour standoff and order the assault that killed Mr. Mateen and freed dozens of people in trapped in the club. America’s newest Ghostbusting franchise is officially up and running! But it seems like no one noticed since it’s been about three weeks, and the crew hasn’t received a single call. While the guys don’t mind sitting around the firehouse all day, if they don’t start getting some business soon, they’re bound to close just as quickly as they opened. Thankfully, on a particularly boring day, the gang gets a call from the Orlando Police Department saying that they’re urgently needed downtown. A taxicab has thrown out its driver and passenger; and is currently driving itself! Traffic is backed up for miles, it’s almost rush hour, and this haunted taxi is showing no signs of stopping. At a time like this, who ya gonna call? Five trigger-happy rookies with nuclear accelerators and zero field experience. Join us as our inexperienced Busters venture out on their first case. They don’t believe in Ghosts (yet), but that won’t stop them from busting. Did we plan the launch of this episode around Bill Murray’s birthday? If that’ll make your listening experience that much better… let’s just go and say yes. Also, got a question for them? Notice some ghost or specter at night?
