The Germany based duo HackedePicciotto with Alexander and Danielle join Music Matters host Darrell Craig Harris to talk about their latest album and a new path moving forward! About the Duo Hackedepicciotto is an experimental duo consisting of longtime partners Alexander Hacke (of Einstürzende Neubauten) and Danielle de Picciotto, an American-born musician, artist, author, and filmmaker. Their work together consists primarily of stirring soundscapes blending acoustic instruments such as violin, hurdy-gurdy, and autoharp with rumbling bass guitar and electronic feedback. Both artists sing and chant -- de Picciotto recites colorful, poetic lyrics, and Hacke occasionally throat sings. While the pair describe their music as "cinematic drone," they incorporated postindustrial rhythms into their 2020 full-length The Current and the more expansive, symphonic 2021 release The Silver Threshold. With 2023's Keepsakes, they focused on personal themes while expanding their list of collaborators and instrumentation. https://hackedepicciotto.bandcamp.com www.Instagram.com/hackedepicciotto About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Sports Illustrated photographer.
Interview with Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto ! Part 4 hackedepicciotto are Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto. Both are legends of their own making: Danielle de Picciotto moved to Berlin in 1987, to become the lead singer of the band „Space Cowboys“, the co-initiator of the Love Parade, a collaborator of the Ocean Club with Gudrun Gut, and Alexander's partner in crime. Alexander Hacke is founding member and bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten. The artist couple, romantically married in 2006, has creatively interacted with countless international projects for almost 2 decades now besides regularly releasing their own compositions. Their live shows are, to put it mildly, intense. Danielle specializes in unusual instruments such as the Hurdy Gurdy, the auto harp and the cemence besides playing the violin and piano; Alexander is master of the bass, guitar and drums. Together they create beautiful, existentialistic, acoustic soundscapes, which roar and vibrate simultaneously leaving their audiences shaken but overjoyed. Danielle, author of two books, writes most of their lyrics, be it the poetic spoken word moments or the momentous choirs they compose together. Alexander Hacke, an excellent throat singer and vocalist, growls his grnarly, rumbling cries that float eerily over their nomadic desert drones, with screeching birds, bees or wild wind accompanying slow, heavy riffs that start as a whisper and end in a volcanic, rolling wave of apocalyptic frenzy. The collage of this mixed with melancholic, translucent harmonies, very heavy & low bass chords, and electronics are a mesmerizing universe of sound and emotion which has generated an ever growing group of enthusiastic listeners. The Best of hackedepicciotto (Live in Napoli) showcases live interpretations of music from across their career. The album includes reinterpretations of tracks from all of their studio albums: Keepsakes (2023), a tender exploration of friendship and loss, The Silver Threshold (2021), their defiant reaction to the pandemic, Perseverantia (2016), which dealt with the artists nomadic lifestyle, Menetekel (2017), which embodies their collective despair at the state of the world, and powerful energy of The Current (2020), recorded by the Irish Sea. The Best of HackedePicciotto (Live in Napoli) is Alexander Hacke and Danielle De Pictiotto's newest release showcasing live interpretations of music from across their career. For over 20 years Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) and artist, musician and filmmaker Danielle de Picciotto (co-founder of Love Parade) have been developing and evolving a symbiotic working practise together, with a deep intuition of the kind that has distinguished a rare number of creative and romantic partnerships – think of the writers Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne, the artists Lee Miller and Man Ray or heroes of independent filmmaking, Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes – each partnership underlined by a creative equality that allowed both artists freedom to explore and expand. https://www.Instagrm.com/hackedepicciotto https://www.Facebook.com/hackepicciotto https://www.hackedepicciotto.bandcamp.com Website: https://www.hackedepicciotto.de Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris is sponsored by Shure Microphones.

Key Things Discussed The growing demands among consumers for corporate accountability and sustainable practices – particularly among top offenders in the travel and supply chain transportation industries. Why old-school, top-down industry averages provide a far less precise measure of climate impacts than the accurate, granular, bottom-up data collection and tracking technologies available today. How meaningful carbon reduction will require a portfolio approach based on a mix of methodologies developed for large companies that can ultimately be rolled out as scalable, affordable solutions for smaller ones. Advice for companies interested in establishing proactive programs to reduce their footprint through data collection, offsetting and insetting strategies. What's behind corporate “greenwashing,” which is often the unintended consequence of sustainability programs that lack accreditation, expertise and committed resources. How the team at Pledge is partnering with enterprises to move their commitment to carbon neutrality from the “nice to have” column towards “mission accomplished” – ASAP! Show Notes [00:03:12] David highlights the service Pledge provides by helping businesses integrate a climate dimension into their customer offerings – including support for supply chain logistics to reduce carbon footprint. [00:04:13] Defining Terms: The international mandate to reduce carbon dioxide emissions 45% by 2030 and achieve net zero levels by 2050 requires reliable measures and strategies going forward. [00:05:03] About two ways of looking at carbon emissions: Top Down: Industry average spend and per unit impacts versus financial value of a good or service consumed. Bottom Up: Activity-based data that break down indirect emissions at a more granular level. [00:06:59] Why pursuing a sustainability strategy makes good business sense: Both because consumers are demanding responsible commerce and regulatory bodies in Europe and beyond are demanding accountability and compliance. [00:09:03] David explains the reasons that sustainability is often pushed down the corporate agenda (cost, resources) and how outsourced software solutions will likely advance adoption in the coming months and years. [00:11:14] Transport is among the largest carbon offenders. The more emissions are measurable the more transparent choices become for consumers. Alternative energies offering significant reductions are also coming on strong. [00:13:38] Advice for companies interested in establishing proactive programs to reduce their footprint: Prioritize data collection, tracking and quantification. Identify and address with an offset strategy those functions that are essential. [00:15:32] There are ongoing challenges associated with closing data gaps, especially with Scope 3 emissions, but large enterprises (especially in the transportation space) are leaning on suppliers to reduce their footprints and overall environmental impacts. [00:17:12] Explaining the finer points of carbon offsetting versus insetting. [00:18:49] Meaningful carbon reduction will require a portfolio of solutions to holistically neutralize impacts. It's not a zero sum game but a mix of technologies that, through the support of larger enterprises, can be scaled to help subsidize smaller ones. [00:21:21] How so-called “greenwashing” happens in both intentional and unintentional ways due to lack of knowledge, resources and vetting practices. [00:22:37] How business leaders can establish a trust-worthy climate strategy through: Education and onboarding of the necessary sustainability resources. Strong and transparent data-based systems to hold vendors accountable. Partnerships with accredited bodies whose calculation methodologies qualify them to manage carbon accounting and offsetting programs. [00:24:32] Quick Fire Questions for David: What's your Dream with a Deadline? Helping to remove gigatons of carbon from the atmosphere – ASAP! What is an example of a strategy execution challenge that you faced and how did you overcome it? There's no pre-existing playbook, which means creating a data-driven niche in the climate space while learning on the job. Best advice for business leaders who want to incorporate sustainability in a meaningful way? Whatever the size of your company, choose a concrete milestone in terms of net carbon emissions and then reverse-engineer a program to make it happen! What is top of mind for you these days? Moving sustainability as a business priority out of the “nice to have” and into the “must have NOW” column. On this episode of Side Projects, I am joined by Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto of hackedepicciotto and Ellen Southern and Tom Bush from Dead Space Chamber Music to talk about Musique Concrète. We discuss what it is and how each of them discovered the genre and how it has influenced the music they make. They've each used some strange instruments to create their own Musique Concrète, including a jet turbine and a serrated knife on a stone. It really is amazing how repurposing objects to make Musique Concrète can actually give them a new life. And sometimes Musique Concrète is created by accident, like when a flute has the wrong mouthpiece. And other times, repairing an instrument can actually ruin the qualities that you want for Musique Concrète. Recording the music can be part of the process of creating the desired sound. But you have to be ready because sometimes you only get one take. Follow hackedepicciotto on the socials @hackedepicciotto. Follow Dead Space Chamber Music @deadspacechambermusic. Chief Richard Picciotto is the highest ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Center collapse. On September 11, 2001, FDNY Battalion Chief Richard “Pitch” Picciotto answered the call heard around the world. In minutes, he was at Ground Zero of the worst terrorist attack on American soil, as the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center began to burn–and then to buckle. Trapped in Stairwell B when the North Tower collapsed, Chief Picciotto and the 10 others with him were among the total of 14 who survived the collapse.A veteran of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, Picciotto was eerily familiar with the inside of the North Tower – and it was there that he concentrated his rescue efforts. It was in its smoky stairwells where he heard and felt the South Tower collapse. He made the call for firemen and rescue workers to evacuate, while he stayed behind with a skeleton team of men to help evacuate a group of disabled and infirm civilians. And it was in the rubble of the North Tower where Picciotto found himself buried – for more than four hours after the building's collapse. He and another first responder, A Mick A Mook and a Mic's own Billy O'Connor, will talk about that horrible day and the days to follow on this 9/8 podcast that you won't want to miss.###
