Back in April, we covered a story on episode #348 titled "CISO-CEO communication gaps continue to undermine cybersecurity". In that article, Sumedh Thakar, the CEO at Qualys, stated "CISOs must translate technical risks into business impact for CEOs." But he didn't say how. So, we invited him on the show to explain. In this episode, Sumedh walks us through real life interactions with his CISO and Board and explains why security needs to be communicated in business terms. Security is a risk management discipline. No one understand that more than Jeff Recor. Jeff has built risk management practices for Deloitte, Grant Thornton, and Accenture and has recently formed his own risk consulting practice. In this unscripted interview, Jeff will share his insights on the evolution of security as a risk management discipline, what CEOs and Boards really need, and how CISOs can be successful as a business leader. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Elliott and Goulding began as radio announcers (Elliott a disc jockey and Goulding a newscaster) in Boston with their own separate programs on station WHDH, and each would visit with the other while on the air. Their informal banter was so appealing that WHDH would call on them, as a team, to fill in when Red Sox baseball broadcasts were rained out. Elliott and Goulding (not yet known as Bob and Ray) would improvise comedy routines all afternoon, and joke around with studio musicians.Elliott and Goulding's brand of humor caught on, and WHDH gave them their own weekday show in 1946. Matinee with Bob and Ray was originally a 15-minute show, soon expanding to half an hour. (When explaining why Bob was billed first, Goulding claimed that it was because Matinee with Bob and Ray sounded better than Matinob with Ray and Bob.) Their trademark sign-off was "This is Ray Goulding reminding you to write if you get work"; "Bob Elliott reminding you to hang by your thumbs."
In this episode we'll explore potentially life-saving treatments for hypertension and stroke. First, we'll talk with Sandra Saldana, CEO of the start-up Alva Health, which is developing a wearable system that can detect strokes. Alva Health won the 2021 Global Competition of the Medtech Innovator program. Then we'll explore renal denervation, the exciting but vexing method of lowering hypertension by ablating nerves in the kidney. We'll talk to the leaders in this space including Andy Weiss, CEO of Recor Medical, a division of Otsuka Holdings, that's developing the Paradise Renal Denervation system. Weiss, a medtech veteran, shares his long-term views, one why he still sees Renal Denervation as a game-changer. Then, we'll run an excerpt of the MedtronicTalks podcast interview with Jason Weidman, senior vice president and president of the coronary and renal denervation business at Medtronic. Weidman details Medtronic's latest regulatory hiccups but, like Weiss, explains why he sees renal denervation as an important new therapy that can save the lives of people struggling to control their hypertension. You can listen to the entire interview with Weidman here. https://www.devicetalks.com/weidman-talks-us-through-the-long-road-to-get-symplicity-ready-to-help-patients-with-hypertension/.

In the 2020-21 season the Big Blue finished 15-12 overall, marking their first winning season in school history. The Big Blue won the first Black College World Series against the Xavier University of Louisiana. He was also the former head baseball coach at Averett University in Danville, Virginia. Bailey played two professional seasons for the Athletics' organization where he posted a 5-0 record and had an ERA of 2.80 ERA. He racked up 48 strikeouts in 54 professional innings and limited opponents to a .216 batting average Notes Surround yourself with great people He doesn't work for me, we work together Recruiting and cultureGot to be able to recruit and bring in talent Got to have standards and hold expectations Creating structure, recruiting, and building culture When guys develop mentally and maturity the baseball player develops Recruiting goals, alumni goals, classroom goals, ncaa regional goal as a team, Set and communicate our Standards - work ethic, kindness, accountability, “Developmental” team - JV team, we need to treat our last guy like our best guy I'd rather lose a close game against a rank opponent than go dominate a bad team Can't process and compete at the same time! Video is huge so they can see the adjustment Film and feel - we have to film it so we can cue it to be able to feel it Measure it to find out what type of pitcher they are - 2 seam or 4 seam, slider or curveball Most players struggle to accept their identity, and we need to help them identify who they are Pre throw activation - don't need to throw more than 15 minutes Mobility - yoga once a week Fast twitch, explosive intense movements/running rather than slow twitch long distance running Just because I played professional baseball people assume I know baseball. That is the biggest misconception in our game. Some of the best coaches in the game are guys who did not play at a high level Passionate, learning, and communicate are staff guys I am looking for Most high school kids don't understand how to hold runners and run the bases! Love the competition that breeds in the fallExit velo competitions - best average of ev wins! If you don't handle your academics you will not attack your baseball as good as you could It is a privilege to be able to play Adversity of schedule, practice, freedom do it without parents, Need support - we will support the kids, tutor groups, study hall 3.2 is the standard I have a problem with a guy who is 2.8 and could be 3.5! Grade checks, classroom checks - be where you are supposed to be. Expectations not rules Guys who are not accountable are not coachable Don't ride that emotional rollercoaster - keep pushing forward and keep working to push through adversity What can you control? If you can't control it, don't focus on it “Into the real world” session - people from around the community in the real world and what they have done to push through adversity. I have been implementing the principles of this episode since we talked and my relationship with my kids has improved greatly.
