GDP Script/ Top Stories for Tuesday May 23rd Publish Date: May 22  Monday From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast Today is Tuesday May 23rd , and happy 31st birthday to Aaron Donald ***Donald Highlight****   I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Peggy Slappey Properties Morning fire destroys mansion near Lawrenceville Joseph Mark kicks off campaign for Gwinnett County sheriff And Gwinnett police search for vehicle of interest in a fatal hit-and-run incident   Plus, we hear from Karen Woodrich of the Natural Resources Conservation Service about the purpose and partnership of the agency's conservation programs   We'll have all this and more on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast.    Commercial :  Peggy Slappey          Story 1. fire   A massive fire engulfed a 15,000-square-foot mansion in Lawrenceville, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services officials. The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigators continue their work. Fire crews arrived at the home on Lebanon Road after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the blaze. The fire had already spread from the basement to the first and second floors when firefighters arrived. Insufficient water pressure required additional resources, including a helicopter equipped with a 100-gallon water bucket to help douse the flames. Despite their efforts, the fire was only brought under control after several hours. The vacant mansion sustained severe damage, and fire investigators were unable to determine the cause of the fire.   STORY 2:  mark   Joseph Mark, a former military police officer and current private investigator, has announced his candidacy for Gwinnett County Sheriff in the 2024 race. Concerns about crime in the county and staffing issues within the jail system motivated Mark to run for the position. He plans to challenge incumbent Sheriff Keybo Taylor in the Democratic Party primary. Mark has approximately 25 years of law enforcement experience, having served as an MP in the Army and worked as a private investigator. His priorities include addressing youth involvement in street gangs by providing alternative paths and mentorship opportunities. Mark also aims to tackle mental health issues and reduce recidivism by offering medication-assisted treatment and behavioral therapy to those in need. He believes that extended jail stays worsen mental health issues and strain the jail system. To improve morale and staffing, Mark intends to focus on retention, recruitment, and raising salaries for deputies. He aims to incentivize deputies to live in Gwinnett County by offering compensation that aligns with the area's higher cost of living.   Story 3: Vehicle   Gwinnett police are searching for a "vehicle of interest" in a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian. On March 3, officers responded to a call on Dawson Boulevard in Norcross and found the body of Razak Ndego Iddrisa. Investigators believe a Dodge Ram struck him while he was walking, and surveillance footage captured a white Dodge Ram entering a nearby property around the time of the collision. The driver fled the scene, but parts of the truck were found. The Gwinnett Medical Examiner's Office determined the death to be traffic-related. Anyone with information is urged to contact Gwinnett police investigators or remain anonymous by contacting Atlanta Crime Stoppers for a potential cash reward. ……Stay updated on this story at gwinnettdailypost.com…we'll be right back   Commercial  M.O.G. Commercial  Tom Wages - then Obits   STORY 4: Asian American   Gwinnett County celebrated Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with an event at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. The event aimed to showcase AAPI community members who have chosen Gwinnett County as their home. Additionally, an AAPI Heritage Month exhibit is currently on display at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center until the end of May. You can read more about the celebration, get more information about seeing the exhibit, and see beautiful photos at gwinnettdailypost.com   Story 5: HOF   Former Dacula quarterback Terry Harvey and Parkview offensive lineman Jon Stinchcomb have been nominated for the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2023. Both Harvey and Stinchcomb are already members of the Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame. They join last year's candidates, offensive lineman Jeff Backus and linebacker Rennie Curran, as well as former Indianapolis Colts and Hebron Christian football coach Jeff Saturday, on this year's ballot. The organization's board, comprising coaches, athletes, administrators, and media members, is expected to complete the voting process this month. The 40-member Class of 2023 will be inducted on October 21 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.       Story 6: Raymond   Kalif Raymond, an NFL wide receiver and kick returner for the Detroit Lions, will be hosting a free youth football camp at his former school, Greater Atlanta Christian, on June 3. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration opening at 8 a.m. It is open to children between the ages of 8 and 13, and participation is not limited to GAC students. Raymond, who has seven years of NFL experience, had a remarkable college career at Holy Cross. In 2022, he recorded 47 catches for 616 yards. For more information and a link to sign up for the camp, please go to gwinnettdailypost.com.….We'll be back in a moment     Story 7: Dugout   At the Gwinnett Dugout Club's season-ending celebration for high school baseball, Parkview players stood out by claiming two of the top three individual player awards. Colin Houck was named the Hugh Buchanan Player of the Year, while Landon Stripling was recognized as the Two-way Player of the Year. Norcross' Nick Lanning was honored as the Pitcher of the Year, and Jake Bova from Dacula received the John B. Sawyer Coach of the Year award. Wesleyan was crowned as the Team of the Year, and the Field of the Year honor was given to Seckinger, a first-year program. Collins Hill's Nathan Koerner was recognized with the Gino Vizzi Courage and Perseverance Award…..more in a moment   Commercial: City of Lawrenceville -GCPS job fair-Ingles 8   And Now Karen Woodrich of the Natural Resources Conservation Service describes the purpose and partnership within one of the agency's conservation programs. Recently I interviewed Rennie Curran for the LION 40 Podcast. Rennie is the son of Liberian immigrants and, indeed, he has seen his share of ups and downs. Even though Rennie was considered by most coaches and television announcers to be undersized for his position in football, the first half of Rennie's life was dedicated to a highly successful career in the SEC and NFL. The public's characterization and pressure over his size shaped his mindset and dedication to exceed beyond what anybody expected. Now, in the second half of his career, Rennie uses his experience and God-given talents to speak to audiences about how to lead well, persevere, and be resilient when life gets challenging.

What do you do when the odds are against you?   Do you sit in fear?   Double-down on your faith?   What does it take to show up bold and confident when all hope seems to be lost?   Former University of Georgia Football standout and NFL linebacker, Rennie Curran, can teach you a thing or two about that…   Beating the odds is his middle name.    He went from being made fun of for his size to becoming one of the greatest linebackers in the history of Georgia's football program and getting drafted 97th overall.   And he continues to beat the odds in his professional life.   Rennie shares his wisdom about overcoming the impossible on today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show.   In this latest episode, Rennie and I talk about…   How to respond when the odds are stacked against you Two things many leaders struggle with today and how to overcome them What Rennie has learned from trying to balance life as a single dad, entrepreneur, and philanthropist   …and so much more.   If you want to be the person known for consistently beating the odds, then lock in to today's episode. [00:01 - 11:26] Introducing Rennie to the show   Rennie's most embarrassing moment Rennie's background, story, and professional journey   [11:27 - 20:10] How Rennie was able to come up clutch despite constantly being an underdog   Operate at the level of your vision. How?... MAKE A DECISION - you have two choices: 1.) revert to the level of your circumstances or 2.) revert to the level of your vision (i.e. this is where I want to be, this is who I am, and NOTHING is going to make me compromise that) God honors your sacrifices and faith, especially when you act in it   [20:11 - 32:11] How to respond when the odds are stacked against you   It became my fuel You have to take time to dissect your skills and abilities and focus on what you have and don't have Leverage the ones that you can use to get your edge (e.g. Rennie's in football: speed, quickness, and agility) Rennie used his height to his advantage (instead of looking at it as a disability)  Have to be a technician to maximize your skills and abilities Rennie's advice: Take time to get to know yourself and your strengths (e.g. track your wins) How to prevent yourself from focusing on proving others wrong (vs. focusing on your vision):  Find community or someone to hold you accountable to not go there  Perspective: realize your opportunity to influence others is SO much bigger than the challenging position you're in (i.e. where vision comes into play)   [32:12 - 38:25] Two things many leaders struggle with today and how to overcome them   Recruiting and retention: this is the result of a LACK OF CULTURE Morale How to overcome these challenges? Understand that you ARE the culture Prepare - win the game before the game (i.e. what are you doing before you get on your Field of Play?) When you leave your Field of Play, what are you doing to make success predictable the next day (i.e. Rennie calls them M.I.T.s - most important tasks)   [38:26 - 44:29] What Rennie has learned from trying to balance life as a single dad, entrepreneur, and philanthropist   Have to get clear on your values and who you want to be. Then, be consistent in that - prioritizing is a key strategy to do that. Have to give our kids grace - being a father has given Rennie a glimpse into God's love and grace for him Part of loving our kids is to let them fail   [44:30 - 50:03] Wrapping Up Rennie's BIG domino How to connect with Rennie   KEY QUOTES “When you go to new levels, you'll face new devils.” - Rennie Curran “God honors your sacrifices and faith, especially when you act in it.” - Rennie Curran   CONNECT WITH RENNIE Facebook: @RennieCurran53  Instagram: @renniecurran  Linkedin: /in/renniecurran/  YouTube: @renniecurran  Website: https://renniecurran.com/ The Game Changers Foundation: https://gamechangersfoundationga.org/   CONNECT WITH J.R.  Facebook: @jamesJRreid Instagram: @jamesjrreid LinkedIn: in/jamesjrreid/ Twitter: @jamesJRreid Website: jamesreid.com For Men Only - Check out The Clutch Club™️: jamesreid.com/club   RATE & REVIEW this episode on Apple: https://jamesreid.com/review   SHARE this episode with someone who wants to be challenged, pushed, and positioned to come up clutch more often.   SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss out on any new episodes and Special Guests!   LISTEN to previous episodes on Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, Google or whatever podcast platform you prefer!

His foundation was based on the values that his immigrant parents instilled in him. Rennie overcame incredible odds to play professional football, but along the way, he discovered that he was much more than a football player. He invested heavily in his personal development and leadership skills. He found out that at some point everyone is a "free agent" and if you can ask yourself deep enough questions you can connect with your purpose. What you will learn: The power of mentorship Transferrable leadership from sports learning about your culture to help you see more of yourself The benefits of a holistic upbringing Why good leaders continually look to improve Differentiating yourself from what you do vs. who you are Tips for student-athletes when they're done playing their sport Connect with Rennie: https://www.instagram.com/renniecurran/ (IG) https://www.facebook.com/RennieCurran53 (Facebook) https://twitter.com/renniecurran53 (Twitter) website Let's connect: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alex-molden-9693431b/ (LinkedIn) https://www.instagram.com/alexmolden/ (IG) https://www.facebook.com/alex.molden1/ (Facebook) https://open.acast.com/shows/5e759e3195fa07a414c9afe8/episodes/www.alexmoldenspeaks.com (website) https://thehaacademy.com/get-full-access (High Achievers Academy) Don't forget to Subscribe, Rate & Review (5 stars are dope)! C-Level with Chris DeBlasio #chrisDeBlasio #CLevel #RennieCurran #NFL - On this episode of C-Level I sit down with Rennie Curran, keynote speaker, author, and former NFL athlete. Hey Rennie, thank you for coming out man, appreciate it. - Man, thanks very much for having me. - So I've been actually following your content, and you've been doing a lot of speaking, and man, I really appreciate just speaking life into a lot of these people on leadership and stuff, so for the small majority of people that don't know who you are, give me a little bit of your background, how you got started, how you got into football, getting drafted, all that stuff. - Man, it's a long story as it always is, man, but my background basically starts with my parents, I always talk about them. Both Liberian immigrants who came here in the early '80s. My mom came here on scholarship to Emory to get her master's in Nursing, around '84, didn't know her way around, typical immigrant story, $10 in her pocket, just worked super hard, man. My father came once she was done. He bought into a shoe repair franchise called Hakky Shoe Repair Shop, actually out in Kennesaw at Town Center Mall, and so I grew up right in Atlanta, off North Druid Hills, Buford Highway, for those of you all listening from Atlanta. We moved to Gwinnett County when I was 10 years old, that's when I joined the GFL Brookwood Football and we didn't even know, we had no clue that this was like this powerhouse football program but I was blessed to be in a great community, man. Met my Little League coach there who just was diehard Georgia fan. His son was the quarterback, I played running back, and he took me-- - So you started out as a running back? - Yeah started out as a running back. I actually started out as a offensive lineman, I don't tell anybody that. My first year, I didn't know anything, man, I didn't know any better, but as I grew and as I learned I became a running back and we went to my first University of Georgia game and that's when like that dream was really planted, and from then on, I was like that diehard fan, listening to Larry Munson, watching David Greene, and Pollack and Thomas Davis, and that was just my dream to be that next kid out out of Snellville, to be the hometown legend, man, and so, fast-forward to high school. Didn't really get along with my coach my freshman year, got moved to linebacker, got pissed off, pretty much, and started hitting everything moving, and it just-- - It's like Waterboy . - That's what I tell people, it's like Waterboy, literally. So I just developed this mentality, man, where I just tried to turn myself into this machine and at the same time going through high school, I faced a recruiting whole experience where I was told time after time that I was under-size, too short to play in the SEC, and that just motivated me, that along with my parents, their work ethic, seeing just the struggles that they went through. During the time that I was born, by the way, there was a civil war taking place in their home country of Liberia. So that was a big part of my foundation was seeing all the sacrifices that they made. Sending everything that they made back home. You know, building themselves not just for themselves but for their family, and I took a lot of that with me on the field and was fortunate enough to overcome those obstacles, being under-size, family situation of obstacles, and was able to get that scholarship to University of Georgia, man.

Heck, we've even sustained the same knee injury. We share the same faith and we both walk by it, and not by sight. In this episode, Rennie Curran, author, former professional footballer, musician and consultant talks to us about the free agent mindset and what it means to grind toward you goals. His can-do mindset is one that if adopted can definitely take you to the next level. In this episode of Keep Moving Forward, I interview author, speaker, and former NFL and CFL linebacker, Rennie Curran.   “As long as your mission is worthy, you will succeed.” Rennie Curran lives and breathes this mantra, witnessing firsthand the importance of placing family first in all things. His parents escaped Liberia, knowing that there was a better future ahead for themselves as well as for the family they had to leave behind. As they tirelessly worked to create a new life in America, Rennie never once saw them act selfishly; everything they did was in pursuit of a better life for those they loved. Rennie grew up with the same heart for helping others, and it shined brightly in all aspects of his life, especially on the football field.   Falling in love with the sport and the possibilities it would allow him and his family, Rennie charged ahead in his athletic career. Attending the University of Georgia on a full scholarship, Rennie amassed a number of accolades while he was there and turned the head of the NFL. After three years at the collegiate level, Rennie turned pro, playing in both the National Football League and the Canadian Football League. Holding fast to the driving point behind his decision making as what would be best for his family, Rennie approached every situation with a selfless attitude.   Knowing that his athletic career would come to a close at some point in his life, Rennie took the necessary steps to prepare himself for a successful career post-football. Now a distinguished author, sought-after speaker, and life/business coach, Rennie knows the importance of branding yourself in the exact way you want others to perceive you, because it’s all about perspective. And not just the perspective of those who look at you from the outside, but how you view yourself, as well.   I hope that you all enjoy my interview with an individual who always works like he is a starter, Rennie Curran.   For more information on Rennie, you can visit http://renniecurran.com/, and follow him on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.   If you guys enjoy Keep Moving Forward and want to tell me so, I would love for you to leave me a review on iTunes. The Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program is the largest school based father engagement program in the nation with over 4000 schools participating. Drive, determination, resiliency, intensity, and humility. Any of these characteristics can be used to describe linebacker Rennie Curran. ?Considered an undersized player by numerous critics going into college, he quickly silenced any doubters by striking fear into the hearts of opposing offenses during his three dominant years as an All-American football player at the University of Georgia. ??Drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Titans, Curran is a force to be reckoned with in the National Football League. However, to truly understand Rennie Curran as a man, one must look deeper than his playing career. Curran has “The Liberian Dream” tattooed on his left bicep, and rightfully so. He has great pride in his Liberian heritage. This pride was brought on by the hard work and determination he witnessed from his family during their numerous struggles with adversity. Curran’s parents came to America from Liberia during the mid-1980s and remained permanently after civil war broke out in their homeland. During that time, his mother earned a master’s degree in nursing from Emory University, while his father started a shoe repair business. Curran grew up witnessing the sacrifices his family made as they supported and sheltered their Liberian family members and friends during the war. ?Curran’s experiences in life have paved the way for him to become the man that he is today. He still lives his life through the lessons he learned from his family. His on the field intensity and drive to help others is a testament to that. He currently spends much of his time with his daughter, Eleana, giving her the same love he received as a child. Rennie Curran truly is “The Liberian Dream”.
