In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Jess Shine.Jess is mother, wife, life lover, farmer, birthkeeper, village wise woman, adventurer, and dreamer. Life has led her to her latest big leap: her 50 acre family homestead in Northern Idaho where she is dedicated to making their place on this earth better for the next generation. She says “I'll die satisfied knowing that I made the world a better place, even if it's just for my 3 littles.”  They've got a a whole farm, milk cows, chickens, sheep, alpaca, mini donkeys, llamas, peacock, guinea hens, turkeys, cats, and, of course, dogs.  Jess found a 10 year career in the hospital as a labor and delivery nurse abruptly dissolved a few years back. She was a nurse, a good one, and then overnight wasn't — fired for following the law of informed consent and not checking a mother's cervix when the mom told her she couldn't.  Seeing the hospital thru the view of policymakers changed the way she saw her work, and losing the career she built up over a decade  rocked her to her core.  She went from a really hard, exhausting, inflammation and stress causing job to village wise woman. She learned how to help others heal by healing herself, and sharing her findings through herbalism and homeopathy. Add in mindfulness practices, plenty of fresh air and sunshine, remove the toxins as best as one can, and top it all off with love. Jess Shine shows up as a companion for the births to which she's called as a witness and a guide. She teaches natural healing and home health classes, and hosts free calls on zoom to help mothers find peace with their births and unwind their stories. Jess recently launched a program to help birth attendants and families understand the ins and outs of the hospital. She is also the director of programs at the Matrona, the school founded by Jess and I's elder teacher Whapio, and a true blessing to this world.    In this episode together we explore the concept of mothering the mother: caring for mothers in our own community through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond — & equally important — nourishing the great Mother Earth.  Enjoy. Resources: Where to find Jess:IG: @badassbirthkeeper        @shinewildfamilyfarmWebsite: https://shinewild.farm/badass-birthkeeperYour Host Mackenzie: IG: @mamapsychedelia@hunnywombdoula Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie. Each share along the way is golden heart nectar, through the beauty and pain, the synchro-mystic unravelling of the ceremony of life is so ever-present. I am so honoured to have received this woman and her family's life story.Following the birth of Lindsey's first child, she had a Near-Death Experience, where she found herself surrounded by multitudes of light beings who initiated her into the world of subtle energies and healing vibrations. At that moment, she realized that all beings create their own unique vibration—their soul song. Each person's soul song makes up the great Choir of Life. And that is where one of her heart offerings 'Soul Song Revival' was born. Her work is to awaken humanity to the healing power of their unique sound. She's traveled the world and the astral realms, cultivating healing techniques to help people awaken to the power of their own voice and to the healer within. She's been serving in this capacity ever since and in her 30 years on earth she's always been inspired by mamas, who make this world go round. Bri has definitely found throughout her walk on this path that she's needed to balance out birth work with life, and other pursuits, sometimes needing to take a pause to integrate all that her doula practice reveals. This is something we dive into conversation together about, amongst an array of topics. How to integrate birth experiences as a professional in this field, how the Doula can Doula herself, the importance of the self care & nervous system regulation for the birth worker to show up fully in someone's birth space. Through her journey of study in birth and her own body, when her own time came she was able to birth without fear, totally in her power. She feels passionately about sex education and birth education and that everyone deserves access to understanding birth and how to support the process beyond birth into postpartum. Doula training is life training. We will all certainly be close to at least one person in our lives who brings life into the world! Relational care is revolutionary my friends. Throughout our conversation we talk in depthly on the path of doula hood, becoming doulas before having children of our own, body literacy and taking charge of our own education, along with Bri's personal journey, the trip in which she conceived her daughter, her relationship with psilocybin, and surprise free birthing her baby at home on her own!*Wrapping up a Hiatus after one of the most full on months of my life on the Birth path. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I interview Sami Love. Sami has been working in the field of Psychotherapy for over 7 years, and started her coaching business rooted in Mental Alchemy over 3 years ago; a space where she has found the freedom to weave her western education with her spiritual journey and knowledge. She has been gifted with many life changing teachings through her 5 years of walking with Sacred Plant Medicines in Peru and other countries around the world. She has now been living in Peru for over 2 years working intimately with plant teachers such as Ayahuasca, Huachuma, Bobinsana, and Tobacco. After a profound 6 months spent in the Amazon Jungle working with plants medicines she moved to the Sacred Valley, where she met her life partner and started working helping him in running their retreat centre, Anahata Ayahuasca. Together, they now work side by side in ceremony with their Indigenous Shipibo Maestro; a healer who has been walking  with Ayahuasca for over 40 years. Witnessing and supporting the healing of others is her soul mission in this life time. She is especially passionate about supporting and standing by women and they rise into their fullest expressions. Two of her projects she holds near and dear to her heart are: REWILD for women, and Sisters of the Moon.In September of 2022, after giving birth to her daughter, life took yet another beautiful shift. Sam and her partner chose to bring their daughter into the world in a more alternative way, rooted in community, ceremony, and trusting/following the guidance of her intuition. It has been an initiation that has transformed her from the inside out. Motherhood is now the most important roll in her life, and she feels so honoured and blessed to be learning and growing through this new chapter in life.I feel Sami's passion for autonomous family led birth, in my bones, and am grateful to have received her reflections around the current birthing paradigms that exist both in and outside of the medical system. Sam tells us about meeting the spirits of her children before they came in through psychedelic visions, she shares her conception stories, bridging the worlds of psychology and spirit, experiencing miscarriages, and the beautiful sovereign pregnancy she experienced carrying her daughter that led to her surprise breech birth at home in Peru. We talk about societal fears of birth, filtering out what is true and what is not, when being bombarded with opinions as a pregnant women, and staying connected to intuition and truth within. In this episode Nicole and Sarah host Jasmine Tay, a ski mom of 3 boys, the oldest (Harry) is an adaptive skier. Jasmine shares all her learnings, tips and advice on getting your child into an adaptive ski program.  For those unfamiliar, adaptive skiing uses specialized equipment and/or training to allow people with disabilities to ski. Jasmine grew up in Australia and started skiing at age 3 at a ski resort called Threadbo in the Snowy Mountains (Australia). Jasmine and her family relocated from Australia to New York City, their home mountain is now Windham (New York State). Becoming a ski family was always something Jasmine and her family planned.  Jasmine's son Harry has a physical disability that requires him to use crutches, so traditional ski school was not an option for him. Jasmine researched programs outside of NYC and found a great adaptive ski program at Windham (link below).  There are programs all over the northeast and across the country, so her advice is to just start researching programs in your area.Children with disabilities have a different set of needs so Jasmine recommends first talking to the program coordinator to discuss your child's needs to find the right fit.  Booking adaptive ski lessons can take more lead time than traditional ski school, so planning in advance is important. Harry started with a one day lesson - he loved it and kept wanting more time on the snow. Jasmine tells us about adaptive equipment and the unique way that adaptive lessons are managed. Over the years, Harry has progressed to independent skiing - and they achieved their dream of becoming a ski family!Resources:Where to find and Adaptive Ski Program for Your FamilyThredbo (Australia) https://www.thredbo.com.au/Windham (New York) https://www.windhammountain.com/Adaptive Sports Center WindhamVermont Adaptive: https://www.vermontadaptive.org/Please Help Support our Podcast:Mabels Labels at www.mabelslabels.com and use code SKIMOMS for 15% off your first orderCheck out the Ski Pack at www.puremountainfun.com and use code SKIMOMS2022 for 20% off your orderJoin the Ski Moms Fun Community! Linda is a mother of 7 and grandmother and the founder and previous director of the non-profit organization “Birth Without Boundaries”. She continues to be an advocate for peaceful birth practices and honouring of the 42 day postpartum nest, and is currently writing a book exploring her life's work. Linda has lived between Costa Rica and Pennsylvania since 2001 and has been supporting many families during their pregnancy journeys in person and remotely. During our discussion, Linda shares a few of her own birth experiences, starting with what it was like desiring an unmediated birth in the 80's at 19 years old when having her first, declaring after her 4th that she would never birth in a hospital again, on to the story of her glorious free birth of her daughter at home. Linda talks about the early days of being a birth companion in her communities as a young mother, her role in advocacy & activism, time shared with Ina May Gaskin & Michel Odent, living in the jungle of Costa Rica and supporting families in wild free birth settings in their full undisturbed power. She illuminates the importance of witnessing the sacredness that is taking place in birth and giving mothers the opportunity to harvest that magic, and how that sets them up for successful, connected mothering. She tells a story of a client's beautiful birth by the ocean, we talk about birth imprinting, and how the prenatal and birthing time impact each of us and how we relate to the world, and how many of our foundational subconscious beliefs are created at this time. She shares how we can all listen deeper to the baby's intrinsic intelligence during the birthing process alongside their mothers.Multi generational living, coming together with community, pulling together resources. And finally, one of my favourite topics, the importance of centering & honouring mothers in our communities so they can fully thrive in their role of power and guardianship, how we can serve mothers, and stop perpetuating cycles of self sacrificing behaviour so they can better serve the future.———————————————————————————————————Resources: Where you can find Linda: Linda's WebsiteMackenzie's offerings: https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedelia@hunnywombdoulaIntro Music Snippet of "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify.

Parents who have adult children who have addictions find it hard to reconcile where they went wrong in their parenting.  There is that guilt that they may have something to do why their adult child turned to addiction.  Gail has been very passionate about this topic because she had to go through grief and guilt over an adult child with addiction for years.  In this episode of I Love Me Lab Podcast, Gail had a very enlightening conversation with Mike Speakman, a Life Coach and Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor.  He is also the founder of the support group called Parents of Addicted Loved-ones or PAL. In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I Interview Jennifer “Juniper” Montgomery. Can you imagine if the entrance into menstruation was celebrated and honoured? If rites of passage were normalized in our most transitional moments of change in life? We will be diving deep into these realms today.Jennifer is a homeschooling, homesteading, homebirthing mama raising 4 children (as well as many varieties of plants and animals) in Appalachia. She is a Matrona certified doula and a birthkeeper and childbirth educator. Some of her greatest passions are physiologic birth, the creation of family, forging new ways for neurodivergent minds, natural and holistic living and healing, and breaking those pesky cycles that prevent loving evolution. In our chat today, we explore some of the ritualistic ways she's created deeper connection and celebration in her family unit, the importance of community, staying connected and welcoming playfulness and presence with children as they enter teenage-hood, breaking taboos in the birth world, home/unschooling, as well as raising children on the spectrum and how we can better support them to shine in their unique brilliance on this earth. One of my favourites themes in this episode is on menstrual magic, cycle syncing within the family and how to support each other in the home, the sacredness of menarche and the first bleed, how grief comes up for kids during this stage of life and we can support them in navigating it while staying true to themselves, as well as raising children in a way where they are connected to their bodies and to nature. This mama has so much wisdom to share, and I know you will get so much out of it.   Resources: Where you can find Jennifer : Email: JuniperVita@gmail.comFB: Jennifer Montgomery, WNC Birthkeeper https://m.facebook.com/110720604168383/Website: https://junipervita.wixsite.com/juniperbirthIG: @asheville_birthkeeper https://www.instagram.com/asheville_birthkeeper/Mackenzie's offerings: https://snipfeed.co/hunnywombIG: @mamapsychedeliahttps://www.instagram.com/mamapsychedelia/@hunnywombdoulahttps://www.instagram.com/hunnywombdoula/Intro Music "Waters of the Earth" by Satori covered by me, Mackenzie.(For more of her music, check out her Spotify) https://open.spotify.com/artist/6wf55RQ8QUEzAA2SeXDWSh?si=H-tnVLtzR2OoHnLU1ztOpw

In this episode of The Mama Psychedelia Podcast, I chat with Atiyeh Baradaran, an Iranian-Canadian psychotherapist. Atiyeh works with a wide range of approaches, from Dr. Gabor Maté's compassionate inquiry to sacred plant medicine, traditional ceremonies, yoga & meditation, music, dance and somatic healing. She currently lives in Baja California Sur, and has a private online practice  where she offers therapy sessions through zoom to clients from all over the world. She truly believes that the real healing from trauma only begins when we truly feel Held, heard and accepted in exactly where we are. Atiyeh is a survivor of trauma herself. She was born and raised in Iran, as the youngest of 3 siblings, during the time of war and ongoing dictatorship in the country, and amidst severe health issues in her primary family. Losing her father to death at the age of 13, and immigrating to Canada at 15 away from everything and everyone she knew, are among some of the life events that have brought her into her long and ongoing journey of consciously healing. She has dedicated her life to help and guide others doing the same work as well, and is very passionate about it. In our episode together, we discuss Atiyeh's journey of studying psychology and coming to somatic practices along with her studies under Dr. Gabor Mate's compassionate inquiry training which led to her counselling practice, Be Held Counselling. We dive into the realms of psycho somatic healing, how trauma is stored in the body, and the importance of integration work post plant medicine ceremonies and major life experiences, such as birth. Atiyeh shares some insights on early childhood development, the connection between the mother and infant's nervous system and some regulation tools. We talk about how disease is often the manifestation of suppression or unexpressed emotion, trauma healing, and how we can learn to parent our own inner child. Her brilliance shines in this episode, and carries so much value for anyone on the path to parenthood, in the midst of it, or on the path of parenting themselves again to come into a more whole regulated and emotionally mature version of themselves. In this episode, we continue our conversation about mental health and what we can learn from the Simone Biles situation. In Episode 028, we focused on those who are currently facing a mental health struggle of some kind. In this episode, we focus on those who are walking with someone or know someone who is struggling. How should we respond to them? We share a real-time story from one of our listeners who is being real, taking risks, and doing whatever it takes for them to get healthy, and God is doing some amazing things in and through them. "My depression may not ever be taken away, but God is giving me victory in it." According to Johns Hopkins University, about 26% of American adults suffer from a diagnosable mental health illness. So one out of every four people you interact with is dealing with a mental health illness of some kind. So, how should we respond to those who are battling it? 1. Respect how they feel 2. Give them room to heal 3. Return to them with your presence Resources: Where is God when it hurts? by Philip Yancey www.bethe1to.com (Suicide Prevention)
