About "A Costa Rican Wedding" - Hallmark (2024) Directed by Colin Theys. Colin loves an on location Hallmark movie, having previously directed "A Greek Recipe for Romance" and "Love in the Maldives." He has 24 directing credits and balances his work with Hallmark with movies like "A Predator's Obsession" and "My Father's Murder in Greece."  Juliana Wimbles wrote "A Costa Rican Wedding." She has 6 writing credits that include "A Whitewater Romance," "Love in the Maldives" and "The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating." In addition to writing Juliana is an actress who is has appeared as Lisa in the Hannah Swensen Mysteries. She has also had a recurring role on the series "The Good Doctor."  Rhiannon Fish stars as Emily. She recently appeared in "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: A Tale of Three Letters" as well as "My Norwegian Holiday" and "A Picture of Her" for Hallmark. She has 27 acting credits and two projects in the works, both for other networks,  Christopher Russell plays Ryan. Christopher has 80 acting credits and appeared in both "UnREAL" and "Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce." He makes a ton of TV movies, bouncing between Hallmark and other networks, For Hallmark you've seen him in "Chasing Waterfalls," "The Most Colorful Time of the Year" and "The Secret Gift of Christmas." Brittany Carol plays Phoebe. This is Brittany's seventh acting credit but she has four additional projects in production including the titles "Perhaps I'll Die Today" and "A Nanny to Die For." CJ Hammond plays Jamal. This is CJ's 15th acting credit, but his first appearance on Hallmark. Earlier this year he appeared in "The Beach House Murders" as well as "She's Obsessed with My Husband."  Kourtney George plays Tyesha. Kourtney has 8 acting credits, and this is her first Hallmark movie. She was in the 2019 movie "A Holiday Change," now streaming on Peacock.  "A Costa Rican Wedding" was filmed on location in Costa Rica.  Watch the Trailer for "A Costa Rican Wedding" Our Thoughts on "A Costa Rican Wedding" We go into each of these ideas in more detail in the podcast episode, but we'll break down our thoughts here, too! What We Liked While "A Costa Rican Wedding" has its ups and downs, there were definitely standout moments that we appreciated. For starters, the film was a visual postcard for Costa Rica. The beautiful landscapes and scenic views made us want to book a flight immediately. We also found ourselves surprisingly entertained by the physical comedy, especially courtesy of Rhiannon Fish (Emily). Two standout scenes include her hilarious reactions to a tarantula on her shoulder and a slippery tumble down a rain-soaked hill. These moments felt genuine and added a lighthearted touch to the movie. A memorable character that won our hearts was Esteban, the monkey guy. His role in saving the day by finding the lost backpack was both amusing and endearing. Plus, those white-faced 'rally monkeys' added a fun twist. We have to give a nod to Christopher Russell (Ryan). Wendy recently likened him to a budget Aaron O'Connell, but in this movie, he proved his mettle. He and Rhiannon carried the film with their chemistry and elevated performances.

News and Notes About "A Very Merry Mix-Up" This movie originally premiered on November 10, 2013. Jonathan Wright directed “A Very Merry Mix-Up” and it was his second directorial project for Hallmark. He has since gone on to direct a total of 23 movies, a majority of them for Hallmark which include “True Justice: Family Ties,” “A Not So Royal Christmas” and “Family History Mysteries: Buried Past” as of recently. Barbara Kymlicka wrote the script. She currently has 67 writing credits and has written many Hallmark and Lifetime movies. The last couple of projects Kymlicka wrote included last year's “The Secret Gift of Christmas” and all four episodes of “The Love Club.” Alicia Witt stars as Alice. Witt has a staggering 90 acting credits which started in 1984 at the age of 7. She has appeared in the TV series “Cybill,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Orange is the New Black” and “Nashville.” She is not only a TV actress, she's appeared in theatrical movies like “Vanilla Sky” and “Two Weeks Notice.” Fun fact: Witt is a professional singer-songwriter and pianist. She released two Christmas songs in 2020 that appeared in a Hallmark movie she starred in called “Christmas Tree Lane.” In 2023, she appeared on “The Masked Singer” but was sadly eliminated after the second episode. Mark Wiebe plays Matt Mitchum. He has 16 previous acting credits including appearances in the TV series “Nikita” and “The Handmaid's Tale.” This movie was his second project for Hallmark, having previously appeared in the 2011 movie “Christmas Magic” as the waiter. Scott Gibson plays fiancé Will Mitchum. Gibson currently has 69 acting credits with appearances in a bunch of Lifetime movies like “The Perfect Stalker,” “My Mom's Darkest Secrets” and “My Husband's Worst Mistake.” Susan Hogan plays not-future-mother-in-law Penny. Hogan has 129 acting credits, recently appearing in “Tipline Mysteries: Dial 1 for Murder.” Lawrence Dane play Matt's grandpa Charles. Having appeared in 150 projects, this 2013 movie was the second to last on his resume. Dane passed in March 2022 at the age of 84. Mimi Kuzyk plays Will's mom Judith. With 141 acting credits, Kuzyk has appeared in “Hill Street Blues,” “Blue Murder,” “Workin' Moms,” and “UnREAL” - to name a few.  According to IMDB, the role of Alice was originally written for Jennifer Lopez. In school, I learned a little about the Depression Era. My parents and aunts mentioned it a time or two across the years. My knowledge of it was limited to the failure of the stock market in 1929 and peppered with some of the hardships people had to endure during the era. Once I began researching, I realized just how little I really knew. These weren't just difficult times for people, they were devastating.  From 1914 to 1918, our country fought in World War 1. Then a short 11 years later, they were hit with a different type of ‘war' – the Great Depression. Instead of being shipped off to another country armed with munitions, the people of this country faced the battle of a severe economic downturn. Instead of arming themselves with munitions, they had to fight this new war with innovation. Their new task was to learn how to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Not an easy task. My research started me thinking – just how well could I survive another Great Depression? This Episode covers a bit more of what folks had to do to survive, as well as my desire to create my own version of a Depression Era Challenge. Author's Talk Tonya Staufer Hello. I'm author Tonya Staufer; Tonya Penrose is my pen name for my novels. I was around six years old when I wrote my first book with illustrations. I made it using construction paper and judging by my parent's expressions over my drawing attempts, I knew focusing on writing was the best direction. I found my way back to writing when I was laid up with a broken ankle. Over the following months, I penned numerous stories that surprised me by being published in anthologies, e-magazine, local press, and literary magazines. With that dash of confidence, I kept writing. When my writer's group insisted one of my short stories needed to be a novel, I rebelled. I didn't have the patience to sit that long with the same characters, but they all loved Cassie and became her champion. Alas, they wore me down and I penned my first book, Old Mountain Cassie: The Three Lessons. Since then, I've gotten to know my writing chair pretty well over the last few years.I have four novels available for purchase at Amazon and other booksellers. A fifth book, Welcome to Charm, is multi-genre and my publisher says will be out spring of 2022. Currently, I'm writing my 6th book that's part of the “Shell Isle Mystery Series.” I'm a member of Poets and Writers. I invite you to visit: www.tonyawrites.com. You can learn more about my stories that might tickle your fancy. And please don't be shy about telling your friends and family about my books. The story, “A Real Doozy,” needed to be shared. It's my public service to all kids out there to remind parents to think before they act or face the consequences. I admit my actions back then were a tad extreme, but the tale still moves around every family gathering. The younger generations get a taste of our heritage and a lesson on how not to behave. Of course, I respectfully disagree with the disparaging of my reputation. The telling of “A Real Doozy” sets the record straight, you might say. The mischief-making and pranks continue. They're part of my DNA. To the chagrin of many that reside on my family tree, I continue to shine the light on what I consider their missteps. And I carry that torch proudly. — Tonya Staufer

I absolutely LOVE success stories! + By success, I mean where a sister is able to come to terms with exactly what she wants and has the insight and confidence to know exactly how to go after it...in a halal manner. In this podcast we interview Sade Okayla, and find out exactly how she gained so much more confidence in dealing with the opposite sex by following the Islamic tradition of finding a spouse. Alternative classical composer Phillip Bimstein lives in Salt Lake City and Springdale, Utah, where he served two terms as mayor. A recipient of grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Meet The Composer, American Composers Forum, Austria’s Prix Ars Electronica and an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Bimstein’s music has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Bang on a Can Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Spoleto Festival and London’s Royal Opera House. Bimstein was born in Chicago and is a graduate of Chicago Conservatory of Music, where he majored in theory & composition. In the 1980s he led the new wave band Phil ‘n’ the Blanks, whose three albums and six videos were college radio and MTV hits. After further studies at UCLA in composition, orchestration and conducting, Bimstein took a hiking trip to southern Utah and never left. Fascinated by language and the ability of music to tell a story, he frequently incorporates text in his work. Refuge, his string quartet based on the book by Utah naturalist Terry Tempest Williams, was described as “sublime - elegant perfection” by the Deseret News. In 2005 Bimstein composed Lockdown, a techno tone poem based on the sounds and voices of a youth crisis center in southern Utah. In addition to public concerts, the work is presented as dialogue-promoting outreach to youth detention facilities and prevention programs. In 2006 Bimstein received his second Continental Harmony grant from the American Composers Forum to compose Zion Canyon Song Cycle based on the historical and contemporary stories of his community. Performed by his Americana folk chamber group Red Rock Rondo, it is the subject of an Emmy Award winning PBS -TV music special, which also won Bimstein an Emmy for music composition. In 2011 Bimstein composed a new song cycle for Red Rock Rondo and the Salt Lake Sympony based on the best-selling book by Ted Gup, A Secret Gift. In 2015 the Salt Lake Symphony premiered The Brahma Viharas, a symphony with English horn soloist (Charlotte Bell), which Bimstein composed based on four ancient Buddhist/Yogic contemplative practices that were developed over centuries to cultivate the qualities of lovingkindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity in the human heart. Bimstein has practiced yoga, the brahma viharas and mindfulness meditation for more than 40 years, and teaches the University of Utah Honors course, “Opening the Mind’s Eye: Contemplative Practice & Higher Education.” Described by Outside Magazine as “America's only all-natural politician-composer,” Bimstein served two terms as Springdale mayor. Due to his successful efforts to bring harmony to his previously divided community, Parade Magazine dubbed Bimstein, “The Man Who Brought Civility Back to Town.” In 2017 Bimstein gave a TEDx Talk about his approach to community: How to Practice Politics with Music in Mind. Bimstein has served as Chair of the Utah Humanities Council (who awarded him the 2009 UHC Alumni Award and the Delmont R. Oswald Fellowship), Vice-President of the American Music Center in New York, and he is profiled in Who’s Who in America. Bimstein designs and teaches an interdisciplinary course in the University of Utah’s Honors College, “Composing a Community,” and he is a frequent keynote speaker on creativity, community and collaboration. Information about Bimstein’s music and other projects can be found at his website: www.bimstein.com

Change is inevitable. When this change comes from out of the blue or is not your choice it can impact you in often negative way’s.   My guest, Stacy Fisher, experienced a drastic life change that transformed the way that she sees the world and resulted in a drastic shift in how she lives her life. On Independence Day 2018, after the end of her marriage, Stacy took off in a Sprinter Van for a cross-country trip that unfolded into a journey of self-discovery resulting in a fulfilling career helping others live a life full of joy. Stacy is the founder of Living Upp, a lifestyle design company that offers unique planning & design tools for people who want to do life differently. Stacy is an author, speaker and lifestyle consultant with 18+ years of experience in the healthcare industry as a registered dietitian, where she’s worked with large companies such as Dell, Boeing, and Nike. Individuals and organizations hire Stacy to teach them how to create customized lifestyle plans using her 8-dimensional framework so they can save money on healthcare, be in greater service others, and experience more joy.   Stacy has identified 8 dimensions to self-care. They spell out the word self-care. They are; Systemic Emotive Luminescent Financial Cognitive Aptitudinal Relational and Environmental We often excel in some areas and neglect others. Many of them overlap and when focusing on one you can incorporate the others. With a new year comes motivation and pressure to do, be and accomplish more. This can set us up for failure. Life is full of ups and downs, full of change. Both expected and unexpected. Having a solid self-care routine or at the least, an awareness of the different self-care dimensions can help us weather the storms of change. Without self-care, difficult situations can lead us to destructive numbing strategies. Self-care helps build resilience by navigating difficult times with positive coping skills. Having a thoughtful self-care routine helps us to know ourselves better which leads to our expression of our best self. A self-care survival plan will help you during the ‘heavy’ times such as the loss of a loved one, a divorce, a job change. Sometimes shutting down is part of self-care. Self-care is whatever you say it is for you. Healing is a process of coming home to you. You have to “feel the feels” shut down if necessary and then create something to look forward to. There is a Secret Gift in Every Emotion (free series) It is important to feel the feeling and know why it showed up and what we are to learn from it. There is a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy presupposition, an assumption “People may not have caused all of our own problems, but they have to solve them anyway.” (People have to change their own behavioral responses and later their environment for their life to change.) Personal development is necessary for professional development. Assessments are one way that we can grow both personally and professionally. The KOLBE, The DISC, The Enneagram, Strengths-Finder & Fascinate. Many of us fear the unknown. There is power in how we phrase what we want. Phrase it in such a way that you know why you want it and what it will feel like when you have it. See full transcript click here

Rabbi Marc Katz retells the story of Yussele, a rich man in Krakow who has passed away. Yussele has a negative reputation in his community for turning people away in times of need, and the townspeople look forward to getting their revenge. But when they do, they learn a valuable lesson about passing judgment, and what generosity really means. Another version of this story appears in The Jewish Story Finder as story 552, “A Secret Gift.”

A Secret Gift: How One Man's Kindness--and a Trove of Letters--Revealed the Hidden History of the Great Depression. This was one of the best best books I have ever read. Written by Ted Gup, currently the chair of the journalism department at Emerson College, and before that, an award winning investigative journalist who learned the ropes from none other than Bob Woodward. So what is this Secret Gift? From the LA Times review, "On Dec. 18, 1933, an ad appeared in the Canton, Ohio, paper offering financial aid for 50 to 75 families to help them have "a merry and joyous Christmas." The benefactor asked simply that the applicants write of their "true circumstances" — and, when the letters arrived, felt compelled to help twice as many. Before Santa arrived, $5 checks from B. Virdot — as the paper noted, a pseudonym — reached 150 people. Virdot's identity remained a secret for 75 years, until his grandson, Ted Gup, opened a suitcase to discover a bankbook and the cache of letters. They could hardly have landed in better hands. Gup, a former Washington Post reporter who now chairs the journalism department at Emerson College in Boston, dived into public records to trace what happened to the recipients of his grandfather's generosity-and to their children and grandchildren. When he could, he interviewed the families connected to those long-ago, modest gifts. In telling their stories, the book becomes a portrait of endurance and recovery, as well as of a community in the throes of the Great Depression." It was a honor to have a journalist of Ted's caliber on our little Sunday evening show. I hope to have him back again to talk about the future of journalism real soon. What is Pundit Review Radio? On Boston’s Talk Station WRKO since 2005, Pundit Review Radio is where the old media meets the new.
