Multi-cloud network architecture is a cloud architecture in which businesses use a combination of services from different cloud providers. Organizations with a multi-cloud architecture may employ services from two or more cloud platforms, such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Oracle Cloud, rather than just one. At a higher level, the multi-cloud network architecture outlines four different layers. These are Cloud Core, Cloud Security, Cloud Access, and Cloud Operations.

I got a demo of RP1's single shard with 4000 users in mid-July, and then chatted with 3 team members in August to unpack their journey towards creating a scalable network architecture for the Metaverse. Their demo was built on WebXR, but it could be used on other game engines as well. There are real limitations on the client-side and VR hardware with how many of those 4000 users can been rendered within a close proximity, but having a single instance with hundreds or thousands of people could start to open up new use cases for cultivating virtual spaces that recreate some of the social dynamics of tech conferences, large-scale concerts, or perhaps persistant Burning Man playa communities that focus on serendipitious collisions and real-time hangouts. I unpack RP1's design process and potential implications of large-scale shards for the Metaverse with CEO Sean Mann, Chief Architect Dean Abramson, and Chief Client Architect Yin-Chien Yeap (aka Yinch).

If you search on “data center” you'll find many images that show rows and rows of equipment racks. The network gear in these racks need to be physically connected to each other, and that's where pluggable optic transceivers come in. But you also need to connect the transceivers together with fiber optic cables. That cabling infrastructure can get pretty complicated, especially in larger deployments. Today on Mushroom Hour we are joined by the distinguished Lynne Boddy, Professor of Microbial Ecology at Cardiff University. After undergraduate studies in Biology and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Exeter, she was interested in any and every type of ecology. A fortuitous position at the University of London led her to studying wood decay processes, which would turn out to be the subject of her PhD. That work snowballed into a 40-year exploration of wood decay processes with fungi at its core. As well as scientifically challenging and environmentally of massive consequences, mycelia and their interactions have a huge aesthetic appeal for Professor Boddy. There are so many burning questions when it comes to fungal biology, fungi’s relationships to food sources, fungi’s relationship to other fungi and other microorganisms that she, along with around 40 PhD students, post-docs and other co-workers, have striven and are striving to answer. Lynne’s passion for fungi laces out into studies of mycorrhizal fungi, the rising amateur mycologist community, and nearly every other aspect of how fungi will change human lives. There is an obvious joy in her communication of this information to both student audiences and to the public at large. We’re about to enter an exciting world of fungal battles, life and death struggles, epic hunts for food and the complexities of non-human intelligence. Abstract: Developmental programs that guide neurons and their neurites into specific subvolumes of the mammalian neocortex give rise to lifelong constraints for the formation of synaptic connections. To what degree do these constraints affect cortical wiring diagrams? Here we introduce an inverse modeling approach to show how cortical networks would appear if they were solely due to the spatial distributions of neurons and neurites. We find that neurite packing density and morphological diversity will inevitably translate into non-random pairwise and higher-order connectivity statistics. More importantly, we show that these non-random wiring properties are not arbitrary, but instead reflect the specific structural organization of the underlying neuropil. Our predictions are consistent with the empirically observed wiring specificity from subcellular to network scales. Thus, independent from learning and genetically encoded wiring rules, many of the properties that define the neocortex' characteristic network architecture may emerge as a result of neuron and neurite development. Abstract: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) has been successfully employed to understand the organisation of the human brain. For rs-fMRI analysis, the brain is typically parcellated into regions of interest (ROIs) and modelled as a graph where each ROI is a node and pairwise correlation between ROI blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) time series are edges. Recently, graph neural networks (GNNs) have seen a surge in popularity due to their successes in modelling unstructured relational data. The latest developments with GNNs, however, have not yet been fully exploited for the analysis of rs-fMRI data, particularly with regards to its spatio-temporal dynamics. Herein we present a novel deep neural network architecture, combining both GNNs and temporal convolutional networks (TCNs), which is able to learn from the spatial and temporal components of rs-fMRI data in an end-to-end fashion. In particular, this corresponds to intra-feature learning (i.e., learning temporal dynamics with TCNs) as well as inter-feature learning (i.e., leveraging spatial interactions between ROIs with GNNs). We evaluate our model with an ablation study using 35,159 samples from the UK Biobank rs-fMRI database. We also demonstrate explainability features of our architecture which map to realistic neurobiological insights. We hope our model could lay the groundwork for future deep learning architectures focused on leveraging the inherently and inextricably spatio-temporal nature of rs-fMRI data. Abstract: Convolutional neural networks trained on object recognition derive some inspiration from the neuroscience of the visual system in primates, and have been used as models of the feedforward computation performed in the primate ventral stream. In contrast to the hierarchical organization of primates, the visual system of the mouse has flatter hierarchy. Since mice are capable of visually guided behavior, this raises questions about the role of architecture in neural computation. In this work, we introduce a framework for building a biologically constrained convolutional neural network model of lateral areas of the mouse visual cortex. The structural parameters of the network are derived from experimental measurements, specifically estimates of numbers of neurons in each area and cortical layer, the interareal connectome, and the statistics of connections between cortical layers. This network is constructed to support detailed task-optimized models of mouse visual cortex, with neural populations that can be compared to specific corresponding populations in the mouse brain. P., Krucker, T., Waelchli, R., Monnier, P., Carmeliet, P., Vogel, J., Stampanoni, M. Abstract: The formation of new blood vessels and the establishment of vascular networks are crucial during brain development, in the adult healthy brain, as well as in various diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Here, we describe a method that enables hierarchical imaging and computational analysis of vascular networks in postnatal- and adult mouse brains. Resin-based vascular corrosion casting, scanning electron microscopy, synchrotron radiation and desktop uCT imaging, and computational network analysis are used. Combining these methods enables detailed visualization and quantification of the three-dimensional (3D) brain vasculature. Network features such as vascular volume fraction, branch point density, vessel diameter, -length, -tortuosity, and -directionality as well as extravascular distance can be obtained at any developmental stage from the early postnatal to the adult brain. Our method allows characterizing brain vascular networks separately for capillaries and non-capillaries. The entire protocol, from mouse perfusion to vessel network analysis, takes approximately 10 days. Copy rights belong to original authors. Visit the link for more info

M., Dinner, A., Liu, A. P. Abstract: Robust spatiotemporal organization of cytoskeletal networks is crucial, enabling cellular processes such as cell migration and division. -Actinin and fascin are two actin crosslinking proteins localized to distinct regions of eukaryotes to form actin bundles with optimized spacing for cell contractile machinery and sensory projections, respectively. In vitro reconstitution assays and coarse-grained simulations have shown that these actin bundling proteins segregate into distinct domains with a bundler size-dependent competition-based mechanism, driven by the minimization of F-actin bending energy. However, it is not known how physical confinement imposed by the cell membrane contributes to sorting of actin bundling proteins and the concomitant reorganization of actin networks in intracellular environment. Here, by encapsulating actin, -actinin, and fascin in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs), we show that the size of such a spherical boundary determines equilibrated structure of actin networks among three typical structures: single rings, astral structures, and star-like structures. We show that -actinin bundling activity and its tendency for clustering actin is central to the formation of these structures. By analyzing physical features of crosslinked actin networks, we show that spontaneous sorting and domain formation of -actinin and fascin are intimately linked to the resulting structures. We propose that the observed boundary-imposed effect on sorting and structure formation is a general mechanism by which cells can select between different structural dynamical steady states. Recent advances in network science have greatly increased our understanding of the structure and function of many networked systems, ranging from transportation networks, to social networks, the internet, ecosystems, and biochemical and gene transcription pathways. Network approaches are also increasingly applied to the brain, at several levels of scale from cells to entire nervous systems. Early studies in this emerging field of brain connectomics have focused on mapping brain network topology and identifying some of its characteristic features, including small world attributes, modularity and hubs. More recently, the emphasis has shifted towards linking brain network topology to brain dynamics, the patterns of functional interactions that emerge from spontaneous and evoked neuronal activity. I will give an overview of recent work characterizing the structure of complex brain networks, with particular emphasis on studies demonstrating how the network topology of the connectome constrains and shapes its capacity to process and integrate information.
