Lyvita Brooks says her mission in life is "to help people get the clutter out of their lives so they can go and do what God calls them to do." Lyvita is an author, bible teacher, founder of "The Me Project" and host of the podcast "Hanging Out With Jesus." Lyvita credits her mother for inspiring her to write and love books. The book that my guest recently published, "Nugget's for Thought-A Mother and Daughter's Collection of Poems, Reflections and Flash Fiction About the Life They See," was published after her mother's death but it was something that the two women had talked about many years earlier. Verdell was often reading and writing and it truely inspired Lyvita.Verdell had this special magic that made each of her students and family members feel as though they were the most important and only person in the world, at that very moment. And her daughter was some what jealous of others taking time away from her being with her mother, including fellow family members. As a Physical Education teacher in the same school that Lyvita attended in Elementary School made it a little tough for my guest. There were more people competing for Lyvita's mom's attention and that was sometimes tough on Lyvita."She inspired me to be me, to be Lyvita" says Ms. Brooks. That was a huge gift to her daughter. Currently, Lyvita is the host of Hanging Out With Jesus Podcast, founder of The Me Project Academy, and Owner of LRW Publication, LLC, but God is the CEO of them all. She serves on the board of directors of Scholastic, Inc, and has held roles at Spotify, Mattel, and Sesame Workshop - the makers of Sesame Street. With stints at such iconic brands, a good place for us to start was the tension between legacy and innovation. How did this factor into Verdell's thinking? We discussed her enduring legacy at Spotify; developing the brand's first slate of original kids & family podcasts and garnering nearly 400K listeners less than 5 months after launch! What did she learn taking that journey? And we closed discussing the future of content. March is still going to the dogs and in this week's movie we have the most exceptional doggy star! We are covering As Good As It Gets which stars Jack Nicholson as Melvin and unpleasant, obsessive, curmudgeon who insists on making everyone's life miserable except for Carol, played by Helen Hunt, his crush who also happens to wait tables at the diner he frequents. Also thrown into the mix are a gay neighbor, a 'take no shit' art dealer and a cute dog named Verdell, played by Jill the Dog. In this episode: we explore how we feel about forehead licks (based on our stance around forehead kisses, not good), Corinne explains the multiple uses you can get from the Indigo Girls music catalogue (aka lady bait), and Tamara undercharges for her services as a freelance detective. We wouldn't trade this episode for all the noodle salad in the world but we will ask is this As Good As It Gets? Yes, yes it is.
In this episode, Verdell shares her powerful story of how losing her mother led her on a journey of finding her on passion and purpose into a field of health and wellness. Verdell uses touch therapy, somatic experiences and more in her work to help the body get out of it's “dis-ease” and back into health. Verdell does readings for you, that will show exactly what your bodies needs from an energetic perspective, she is the translator for you, so that you can understand what your body is trying to ask for, and her message is don't wait until things get really bad, if you aren't feeling well, start to seek support to understand what your body needs now!Free Gift: I would love to offer the first 10 listeners 50% off their first session with me (in-person or virtual).Your Guided Health Journey Membershiphttps://yourguidedhealthjourney.com/membership-programs/Health Kickstart Program:https://yourguidedhealthjourney.com/health-kick-start-detox/Linktree: https://linktr.ee/yourguidedhealthjourneyAbout the Guest:Verdell helps people to regain hope while helping them to heal with Feldenkrais Method, Somatic Experiencing, Somatic Touch and Body Readings (frequency work). She oozes compassion and empathy for those suffering and is constantly reinforcing that humans are not meant to suffer or live in pain. As an unwavering optimist, she believes every human has the innate ability to heal even from the most traumatic events or stressful experiences in life. Over her years in practice, she has witnessed miracles, individuals healing from what individuals believed was unfathomable, and their life sentence. Most recently Verdell Jessup is creating a name for herself working with individuals who have been injured by a vaccine whom are suffering from Myocardia and Pericardia and varying degrees of peripheral neuropathy or Ischemia. In addition, with individuals debilitated by long haul Covid symptoms. Verdell has a gift with touch, and is able to locate the area of the body needing the most support and start to organically repair the damage which was done or to help forge new neural pathways. Her empathetic nature allows her to provide unshakeable support to help all painful and terrifying experiences. She creates a safe container when we are all yearning for connection and just to be held to provide nervous system regulation. She is passionate about helping individuals to heal developmental trauma so that we can begin to repair early ruptures, which occurred prior to the acquisition of language. Some homes were stressful and our nervous systems did not get the healthy attunement and safe attachment which every human deserves. She has spoken and taught Nervous System First Aid at Canadian Mountain Holiday (CMH) guide training. She was hosted on CJFC Kamloops, and Verdell may be best known for her podcast with Deandra Dey Therapy - I HAVE MY REASONS-S02EP02(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfnat2-wGCk). Verdell Primeaux is a two-time Grammy award winning vocalist in Native American Music. He was brought up with music in his family; he is a third generation recording artist. He met his musical brother Johnny Mike in 1986 and they launched a successful career with 30 records as Primeaux and Mike. Their music was inspired by and performed in connection with the Native American Church, which Verdell talks about in this podcast. Verdell says the music can bridge divisions, including ethic gaps and religion. “This music has a universal outreach, it has a purpose.” He says, for the Native Americans, music and everything they do is a prayer, and for prayer to be most powerful, it should be in the form of a song. Verdell says, “Now is the time to bring people together,” with books, movies, songs, about the spirit and power of music. He says, “Everyone is blessed with their own voice.”
For Verdell Wright, one of the first and hardest things to let go in his journey out of faith was the idea of "Good God". Because with all that he'd seen around him concerning the historical plight of Black people alone he thought surely, there is no good reason to believe in an omni-benevolence deity. As an individual Verdell realized what he wanted more than anything was peace and freedom. He says, "I didn't need to wait for my worthiness to be certified before God or myself"...and he's not alone. In this episode Verdell details accounts from a personal memoir as a Black, LGBTQ, neuro-divergent, former clergyman. We are joined directly into his presentation from BNDC's Legacy program in 2020 with co-host, Mandisa Thomas. _____________________________ (Ep. 6) Show Notes Host: Rogiérs Co-host: Mandisa Thomas, Black Nonbelievers Writing & Narration: Rogiérs Production & Editing: Fibby Music Group, LLC Opening performed by Rogiérs, Reginald & Alesandra Ndu Recorded at: FMG Studios, Washington, DC Cover Artwork: Emily Wilson Music Licensing/Episode Musical Credits courtesy of: Fibby Music Recordings, Storyblocks, AshMinistries, Gospel House Ministries, Inc. Cedric also makes a special appearance on the podcast to talk about the issues he has with Ohio State during that loss. We talk about what went right, and what went wrong for both the offense and defense for the Buckeyes. We talk about how the defense looked horrible and if there is anything the buckeyes can do to fix it. We look around college football and react to the latest rankings and already, planning the Buckeyes course back to the College Football Playoffs. It's a jammed pack episode, and we pull no punches talking about this Ohio State team! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/level-7-crew/support

Dallas Cowboys draft focuses on our first NFL Mock Draft of the year for the Cowboys. It goes all 7-rounds for the 2021 NFL Draft as host Tom Downey attempts to fix the Cowboys. Much can and will change, but based on the current Cowboys Rumors and current NFL Draft order, these mock draft picks could help the Cowboys in a big way. The Cowboys have plenty of needs before free agency, with defense being among the most important. The Cowboys have several free agents at DT and CB and the current players haven’t played that well to begin with. Cowboys draft rumors will focus heavily on what the Cowboys will do with their first round pick. Will they go offensive line, defense or even QB? Could the Cowboys trade the pick instead? Find out what Cowboys Report host Tom Downey wants to do with the pick. Defense is the heavy focus of this Cowboys mock draft. Dallas has 10 picks via the draft simulator thanks to projected comp picks. All but 2 of those selections (including 8 of the first 9 draft picks) went to the defensive side of the ball. Matt Prehm and Erik Skopil try and put into context how impressive Oregon's 37-15 victory over Utah was in the Pac-12 Championship Game. The Ducks dominated from start to finish against what was thought to be the league's best team in the No. 6 ranked Utes. The Ducks won the Pac-12 Championship for the third time in program history, and the first time since the 2014 season. The Ducks also won it's 12 conference title in school history in the process. The win clinches Oregon's eighth Rose Bowl Game apperance in program history. The Ducks 15.7 points allowed per game is the lowest in school history since the 1966 season, and the fewest in a season with at least 12 games dating back to 1988. The offense finished with 432 yards of total offense with 239 yards on the ground. Utah came into the game allowing just 241.6 yards per game and 56.2 yards on the ground per game. MVP and Oregon running back C.J. Verdell rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on just 18 carries. The 70-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the longest in the history of the Pac-12 Championship Game, and his three scores tied the game's most. His 208 yards were the second-most rushing yards behind Oregon running back LaMichael James' 219 against UCLA in the 2011 game. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On this episode of The Life After, we are talking with our friend, Verdell Wright. Verdell is a theology nerd in the purest sense. Boasting theology degrees from Rutgers, Howard and Wesley Theological Seminary. Verdell is also black, and gay. Put all those things together, along with a very intelligent and well conceived deconstruction and you get a powerful thinker, writer, and advocate. Verdell very recently published a piece for for the Black Youth Project about how he went from being a sought after minister to leaving the Christian faith. Or, pushing beyond the Christian faith as he likes to put it. In our interview with Verdell, we cover everything from the problem of theodicy, to coming out, to what it's like to be the token Black guy in a quote ‘progressive' white church. This week we are joined by Verdell, a United Church of Christ minister and doctoral candidate in communications at Howard University. He joined us for a podcast about creating more worship spaces for LGBTQ African Americans on Episode 015. We discuss an area he has studied and experienced, evangelical culture. We discuss what the historical roots of evangelicalism are, define evangelical characteristics and how it isn't its country cousin, fundamentalism. Joshua argues with Verdell contending that Billy Graham is totally a fundamentalist (he isn't, and now Joshua knows why) and we talk about the pro-life phenomenon of the 60s. We discuss how the pro-life movement was actually just a smoke-screen for white-supremacist Christians...and continues to be a smoke screen. For more from Verdell, visit his blog at reboot4life.wordpress.com and follow him on Twitter @mr_wrightaway
Episode 015 Creating more worship spaces for LGBTQ African Americans and why that even needs to happenThis week we visit with Verdell, a minister and seminary student pursuing his doctorate in Washington D.C. We discuss his journey, why he had to leave the United Methodist Church to pursue ordination in a more inclusive denomination. Wendy weeps for the United Methodist Church of her youth and the scores of men and women who will not serve in the UMC because of a systematic policy of discrimination. Verdell introduces us to the real need that LGBTQ African Americans have to be able to worship in a space where they can be their whole, authentic selves. He suggests that the church at large needs to provide affirmation and space for Black Christians to have conversations. He emphasizes the need for traditional religious and political power to be set aside in those discussions so that people can be real and open. And he calls for the church and others to create a broader safety net for individuals who are speaking up from a less-powerful position within the context of society and church...to make it safe to speak and to be heard about what matters to them. Whether you identify as LGBTQ or not...whether you identify as Christian or not...whether or not you are black or a person of color...you will find yourself somewhere in this discussion of justice, compassion, and awareness. Happy listening and see you in church! For more official information on "A Black Church Movement for Gay and Transgender Justice," visit ManyVoices.org
