Some of the most famous pianists in the world, including Van Cliburn and Vladimir Horowitz, relied on Franz Mohr, chief concert technician at Steinway & Sons in New York, to ensure that their concert pianos were ready for performances. A master piano tuner, Mohr was sought-after for his intricate knowledge of pianos and great skill developed over decades. Mohr believed his skills were an avenue to serve God, and he regularly shared his faith with pianists and performance staff. When the nation of Israel was preparing to build the tent of meeting and other items necessary for worship (Exodus 31:7–11), they needed individuals with expert skills. God appointed two skilled artisans, Bezalel and Oholiab, to do the work and filled them with the “Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs” (vv. 3–4). In addition to their specialized skills, God empowered them with His Spirit to guide their work. Their willingness to use their unique talents in service to God allowed the Israelites to appropriately worship Him. Whether or not we consider ourselves artistic, each of us has unique, God-given gifts that we can use to serve others (Romans 12:6). Empowered by the Spirit, we can serve and worship God through our work using the wisdom, understanding, and skills He’s given us.

Listen to a conversation with pianist Elham Fanoos of the Fanoos Ensemble, a unique family group that blends the folk and popular music of Afghanistan with Western classical instrumentation. The Fanoos Ensemble will be performing in Central Indiana on January 25.  Elham Fanoos was born in Afghanistan in 1997. During that time, music was banned under Taliban rule. But Elham's father, Ahmad Fanoos, a well-known singer and television personality in Afghanistan, nurtured his son's musical talent. Elham started out on the tabla drum but later switched to the piano after watching YouTube videos of the classical music legend Vladimir Horowitz. Elham recently released his debut album with the Fanoos Ensemble, titled Echoes of Afghanistan. Also, hear a conversation with vocalist and songwriter Lindsay Littrell. Lindsay is the creative force behind LITTRELL, an Indianapolis-based music duo formed with the multi-instrumentalist and engineer Garrett Langebartels. LITTRELL's debut album Public Love was released last year. The album features a distinctive blend of dark pop, alt-rock, and trip-hop music, along with conceptual elements inspired by activist Cornell West and writer Bell Hooks.

We all thank you for your perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. Hello and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Maria Cooper Janis was born in Los Angeles, California and lived there with her parents, the actor Gary Cooper and his wife Veronica Cooper. She followed a painting career in New York and in 1966 married the world-renowned concert pianist, Byron Janis. Although Mr. Janis' busy schedule has led them all over the world, Mrs. Janis has enjoyed a successful career as an artist. She pursues her paintings with great energy, exhibiting in the United States as well as Europe and Asia. She has written a book Gary Cooper off Camera: A Daughter Remembers which gives an inside look into the persona of one of the greatest movie stars of all time. Maria Cooper Janis has also worked on a feature film documentary, “The True Gen,” about the special 20-year friendship between Gary Cooper and Ernest Hemingway, the score of which is composed by Byron Janis. Byron Janis is internationally renowned as one of the world's greatest pianists. He made his orchestral debut at age 15 with Toscanini's NBC Symphony Orchestra and the following year was chosen by Vladimir Horowitz as his first student.  At 18, he became the youngest artist ever signed to a contract by RCA Victor Records. Two years later, in 1948, he made his Carnegie Hall debut which was hailed as an unparalleled success. He has a special affinity for Chopin and made a French film on him that was shown around the world. He was honored by several U.S. Presidents and in 1984, at a State Dinner at the White House in his honor at the invitation of President Ronald Reagan, he revealed that he had been suffering from severe arthritis throughout much of his decades-long career. The painful and crippling condition eventually required surgery on his hands. However, he recovered sufficiently to resume performing and recording commercially and continues to do so today. Illustrated throughout with 175 photographs, including many never-before-published family pictures, Maria Cooper Janis' heartfelt book offers an unprecedented look at her father's private side, from his Montana boyhood and his Hollywood home life to his friendships with Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, and Jimmy Stewart, among others. Filled with anecdotes that capture the off-screen humor and warmth of this avid outdoorsman and great humanitarian, Gary Cooper Off Camera is an unforgettable portrait of a great star and a beloved father. By any measure, Byron Janis has had an extraordinary musical career. His discovery of two long-lost Chopin scores made headlines around the world, and he has been honored many times for his breathtaking performances of some of the most exciting and challenging works in the standard classical piano repertoire. As he retraces this remarkable journey in Chopin and Beyond, he shares something even more extraordinary: the other-worldly experiences that have shaped his life and music in surprising and profound ways.     Shares milestones and memories from the life and musical career of one of the world's greatest pianists     Includes lively anecdotes of famous classical musicians and other notable figures, including Vladimir Horowitz and Pablo Picasso     Describes his long-secret but ultimately triumphant battle with arthritis.     Recounts the paranormal experiences that deepened his personal association with Chopin, effected near miraculous recoveries from serious accidents, and more.     Like the best music, Chopin and Beyond will open your mind to explore the wonder and possibility of a different world. and BYRON JANIS The Mercury Masters 9 CD/Blu-ray Audio Box Set, 9 CD Available at amazon.com also COOPER AND HEMINGWAY: THE TRU GEN DOCUMENTARY Cooper and Hemingway: The True Gen is an unprecedented look at the bond between two of the most iconic artists of the 20th century. Utter opposites... nothing in common. The cowboy and the suburbanite. The conservative and the liberal. And yet these two artists (a word both men scoffed at) were the best of friends, right up to their deaths a mere seven weeks apart in 1961. But is the friendship of these two men really so surprising? A study of these two men is a study of the 20th century. Their internationally renowned careers (Cooper, two Best Actor Academy Awards; Hemingway, Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes) were played out over the same turbulent decades: the hedonistic 20s, the grim Depression 30s, the war-ravaged 40s, and the deceptively slumbering 50s. available at amazon.com FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MARIA COOPER JANIS VISIT https://www.mariacooperjanis.com/ Official website https://www.facebook.com/mariacooperjanis/ Facebook https://www.instagram.com/mariacooperjanis/?hl=en Instagram BYRON JANIS https://www.byronjanislive.com/ Official website https://www.facebook.com/ByronJanis Facebook   https://twitter.com/ByronJanisMusic Twitter https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi0mmq2O8XSDPCh2w8wb9TA YouTube https://www.instagram.com/ByronJanisMusic/ Instagram GARY COOPER SITES https://www.garycooper.com/ Official website https://www.garycooper.com/blog/maria-cooper-7j5xd Blog https://www.facebook.com/GaryCooperVerifiedPage/?ref=tn_tnmn Facebook   https://twitter.com/_GaryCooper Twitter https://www.instagram.com/gary_cooper_official/ Instagram VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO Bettina Klinger Managing Director for arranging this interview today with Maria Cooper Janis and Byron Janis.   Support us on PayPal!

They are also a good way to help you improve your English – that's how I worked on my French, reading books which were meant for young readers – and I guarantee you, it's a good method for improving your language skills. DescriptionMartha Argerich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1941. She is a pianist [and one of my favourites] known for her recordings and performances of chamber music, particularly works by Messiaen, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninoff. Take a minute to get the scoop!Prokofiev, Piano Concerto No 1, Martha ArgerichFilmed at the La Roque d'Anthéron festival on July 29th, 2005.Fun FactMartha Argerich made her first recording in 1960, aged just 19. The recording featured works by Chopin, Brahms, Ravel, Prokofiev, and Liszt, and was a critical success. Over the decades since, Martha Argerich has recorded works by a wide range of composers, with the Romantic era a speciality. Indeed, her recordings of the piano works of Robert Schumann, such as the Kinderszenen, Kreisleriana and Fantasia, arguably represent the pianist at her expressive, emotional and virtuosic peak.__________________________________________________________________About Steven, HostSteven is a Canadian composer & actor living in Toronto. 2023.06.27 – 0908 – When You Simply Can't Speak At AllThe clinical name for hoarseness is ‘dysphonia' and complete (or almost complete) voice loss is ‘aphonia'.Often the symptoms are caused by infection, physical abnormality or disease, but emotional distress can also be at the root, when it is referred to as a ‘psychogenic' voice disorder.Extreme performance anxiety may include paralysis: freezing, fainting or losing the ability to talk at all.[1]In the singing world (where of course, artists perform in front of a living, breathing audience, unlike the solo studio presentations of most broadcasters and podcasters) some of the biggest names from Maria Callas to Vladimir Horowitz – have struggled to deal with performing under intense expectation. Then there's Ella Fitzgerald, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Barbra Streisand[2], Adele[3], Luciano Pavarotti, Arthur Rubinstein, actors Stephen Fry[4] and John Sim[5], Sergei Rachmaninoff, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Frederic Chopin who wrote: “I am not fitted to give concerts. The audience intimidates me. I feel choked by its breath, paralysed by its curious glances”. Note that a live performance is usually better than a pre-recorded one as performers are often at their best when there's a bit of tension. There's a buzz an excitement, a scary thrill. Nerves can keep you alert and sharp at the mic, you need to harness that energy and heightened state of awareness to bring in your best personal performance. [1] More on this topic in Dianna Kenny's book “The Psychology of Music Performance Anxiety” https://www.amazon.co.uk/Psychology-Music-Performance-Anxiety/dp/0199586144 and Sarah Solovitch “Playing Scared: A History and Memory of Stage Fright”https://www.amazon.co.uk/Playing-Scared-History-Memoir-Fright/dp/162040091X [2] Barbra Streisand, the most successful solo female singer of all time, gave up live performance for 27 years after she forgot the words to a song in a concert in Central Park in 1967. She later claimed to have spent 2,700 hours in psychotherapy, at a cost of $360,000. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Pianist Lucy Parham picks through the greatest recordings of Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Sonata. Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Sonata No. 2, Op. 36, in B-flat minor was composed in 1913 and revised it in 1931. Three years after his third piano concerto was finished, he moved with his family to Rome and started working on his second piano sonata. It is a mighty but technically challenging piece. Rachmaninov himself was not satisfied with the work and revised it in 1931. In 1940, the pianist Vladimir Horowitz created his own edition which combined elements of both previous versions.
