Playlist   Track Time Start Time Opening and Introduction (Thom Holmes) 11:57 00:00 1.    Herbie Hancock, Herbie Hancock Demonstrates The Rhodes Piano (1973 Rhodes). A terrific flexi-disc produced by Rhodes and narrated by Hancock who tells an interesting story about his first encounter with the instrument on a Miles Davis session and then he walks the keyboard through a series of effects. He speaks with the authority of a proud electronics tinkerer who understands the nuances that make this instrument so beloved by jazz musicians. This flexi-disc was originally delivered in the November 8, 1973 issue of Down Beat magazine. I provide both sides of the disc, in entirety. Tunes included during the demonstration include parts of Watermelon Man, Maiden Voyage, and The Spook. Soloist, Rhodes Electric Piano, Voice, Herbie Hancock. I thought it would be wisest to lead off this podcast with an overview of the Rhodes even though it is out of chronological sequence, being from 1973. We then go back a few years to hear tracks in proper time order. 12:48 11:57 2.    The Don Ellis Orchestra, “Open Beauty” from Electric Bath (1967 Columbia). Alto Saxophone, Flute, Soprano Saxophone, Joe Roccisano, Ruben Leon; Baritone Saxophone, Flute, Bass Clarinet, John Magruder; Bass, Dave Parlato, Frank De La Rosa; Bass, Sitar, Ray Neapolitan; Congas, Bongos, Chino Valdes; Drums, Steve Bohannon; Leader, Trumpet, Don Ellis; Percussion, Alan Estes; Piano, Clavinet, Fender Electric Piano Fender, Mike Lang; Tenor Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Ron Starr; Tenor Saxophone, Flute, Piccolo Flute, Clarinet, Ira Schulman; Timbales, Vibraphone, Percussion , Mark Stevens; Trombone, Dave Sanchez, Ron Myers, Terry Woodson; Trumpet, Alan Weight, Bob Harmon, Ed Warren, Glenn Stuart. 5:33 24:44 3.    Miles Davis, “Stuff” from Miles In The Sky (1968 Columbia). I think this was Miles' first album recorded using the Fender Rhodes, played by Herbie Hancock. See the opening tracks from this podcast for a story about this session from Hancock. Bass, Ron Carter; Drums, Tony Williams; Piano, Fender Electric Piano, Herbie Hancock; Tenor Saxophone, Wayne Shorter; Trumpet, Miles Davis. 16:59 30:14 4.    Joe Zawinul, “The Soul Of A Village (Part II)” from The Rise & Fall Of The Third Stream (1968 Vortex). Zawinul, along with Hancock, was an early adopter of the Fender Rhodes. Cello, Kermit Moore; Double Bass, Richard Davis; Drums, Freddie Waits, Roy McCurdy; Percussion, Warren Smith; Piano, Fender Electric Piano, Joe Zawinul; Tenor Saxophone, Arranged by, William Fischer; Trumpet, Jimmy Owens; Viola, Alfred Brown, Selwart Clarke, Theodore Israel. 4:16 47:10 5.    Oliver Nelson and Steve Allen, “Go Fly a Kite” from Soulful Brass (1968 Impulse). Another Steve Allen record, whom we heard from in part 1 playing the Wurlitzer Electric Piano. Here is a selection from an album on which he plays the Rock-Si-Chord and occasional piano. Arranged by Oliver Nelson; Rock-Si-Chord, piano, Steve Allen; Drums, Jimmy Gordon; session musicians, Barney Kessel, Bobby Bryant, Larry Bunker, Roger Kellaway, Tom Scott; Produced by Bob Thiele. 2:30 51:24 6.    J & K “Mojave” from Betwixt & Between (1969 A&M, CTI). “J” is J.J. Johnson (trombonist) and “K” is Kai Winding (trombonist). Their ensemble included Roger Kellaway playing the electric clavinette. An example of using the clavinet in jazz. This was most likely a Hohner Clavinet Model C which had just been introduced in 1968. Recorded at Van Gelder Studios during late 1968. 2:31 53:54 7.    Albert Ayler, “New Generation” from New Grass (1969 Impulse). An electric harpsichord played by Call Cobbs adds some subtle comping to this buoyant tune written by Ayler, Mary Parks, Rose Marie McCoy. Baritone Saxophone, Buddy Lucas; Design Cover And Liner, Byron Goto, Henry Epstein; Drums, Pretty Purdie; Electric Bass, Bill Folwell; Piano, Electric Harpsichord, Organ, Call Cobbs; Producer, Bob Thiele; Tenor Saxophone, Flute, Seldon Powell; Tenor Saxophone, Vocals, Albert Ayler; Trombone, Garnett Brown; Trumpet, Burt Collins, Joe Newman; Vocals, The Soul Singers. 5:06 56:22 8.    Bill Evans, “I'm All Smiles” from From Left To Right (1970 MGM). Piano, Rhodes Electric Piano, Bill Evans; Bass, John Beal; Conducted, arranged by Michael Leonard; Double Bass, Eddie Gomez; Drums,Marty Morell; Guitar, Sam Brown; Liner Notes, Harold Rhodes, Helen Keane, Michael Leonard; Produced by Helen Keane. For his 24th solo album, the long-established jazz pianist Evans took his turn playing both the Fender Rhodes and Steinway acoustic piano on this album, as two-handed duets no less. Liner notes were written by Harold Rhodes, inventor of the Rhodes Electric Piano. 5:42 1:01:24 9.    Sun Ra And His Intergalactic Research Arkestra, “Black Forest Myth” from It's After The End Of The World - Live At The Donaueschingen And Berlin Festivals (1971 MPS Records). You can hear Sun Ra enticing other-worldly sounds from a Farfisa organ beginning at about 1:35. Recorded in 1970. Of the many electronic keyboards heard elsewhere on this album (and occasionally on this track), here the Farfisa is heard the most. Recorded at Ballon Theater, Cairo, Egypt December 17, 1971. Sun Ra playing several electronic keyboards in turn, the organ, Minimoog, and Rock-si-Chord. What I hear is some organ (Farfisa?) in the opening, then Sun Ra turns to a wild exchange between the Minimoog (monophonic) and Rock-Si-chord (polyphonic) during the second half of the track. Alto Saxophone, Congas, Larry Northington; Alto Saxophone, Flute, Danny Davis, Hakim Rahim; Alto Saxophone, Flute, Oboe, Marshall Allen; Baritone Saxophone, Pat Patrick; Baritone Saxophone, Flute, Danny Thompson; Bass Clarinet, Elo Omoe; Composed By, Arranged By, Piano, Organ, Minimoog, Rock-Si-Chord, Sun Ra; Engineer Recording Engineer, Tam Fiofori; Percussion, Lex Humphries, Tommy Hunter; Photography By, Sam Bankhead; Photography Liner Photo, Mike Evans; Producer, Infinity Inc. The great jazz funk flutist Bobbi Humphrey released a series of albums around this time that often-featured fantastic synthesizer players. Here you can pick out the Minimoog by Don Preston and the ARP (Odyssey?) by Larry Mizell. The synths included here are in contrast to the more experimental sounds that Herbie Hancock was issuing at the same time. Flute, Vocals, Bobbi Humphrey; ARP Synthesizer, Larry Mizell; Minimoog, Don Preston; Bass, Chuck Rainey; Congas, King Errison; Drums, Harvey Mason; Electric Piano Fender Rhodes, Fonce Mizell, Larry Mizell; Guitar, John Rowin, Melvin "Wah Wah" Ragin; Percussion, Roger Sainte, Stephany Spruill; Piano, Jerry Peters; Produced by Chuck Davis, Larry Mizell; Trumpet, Fonce Mizell. 6:39 2:06:19 20.Ramsey Lewis, “Jungle Strut” from Sun Goddess (1974 Columbia). Not an instrument often used in jazz, so I turn to the company's demonstration album for a sample of this more advanced in the RMI keyboard family. RMI Harmonic Synthesizer, Clark Ferguson. 2:43 2:20:24 23.  Fernando Gelbard, “Sombrero De Flores” from Didi (1974 Discos Redonde). What's up Bro's? With the show schedule being different this week due to the holidays, we decided it was time to dive into RHUGT Legacy. And man, do we have differing opinions. Shooter (historically not a fan of Ultimate Girls Trips) is also not a fan of this season, Steel on the other hand? Thoroughly enjoying it. We recap the most recent episode after a brief review of the season thus far. Sonja and Luann are a treat as always. Dorinda came into the season a little too hot but has seemed to settle in by episode 5. Kelly it turns out is still a little cray and tensions between her and Kristen boil over. Ramona has been pretty quiet compared to her usual self, which begs the question, how much of Ramona's scenes were edited out? We watch the women do a surfing lesson and as usual we love to see some athleticism on these shows. Kristen loses a toe but thank god for the Hot Medic. Then we partake in a little scavenger hunt that's a walk down memory lane as it calls attention to some iconic moments in RHONY history. Then the ladies finish up at dinner where we get a recap of how each of their marriages came about. All in all, this show has been a nice send off for our OG RHONY crew, but could this lead to more? Should it lead to more? Or is it time to put this franchise to an end once and for all after this Ultimate Girls Trip? This episode is brought to you by Bubly Sparkling Water. Back in Charleston, Craig and Paige have a dinner party with Brett and Madison in hopes to convince Paige to make the move to South Carolina. What's up Bro's? We are in the MIA (actually were in Palm Beach) with the RHOM crew and this episode centers around Lisa. The group is collectively concerned about multiple things going on in Lisa's life. And for once we see the majority of the group on the same page. Julia leads the charge, rather clumsily, to address a litany of issues. Lisa's spending habits, her new relationship with Jody and how all of this could be effecting her children. While all difficult convos to have it does seem that the crew has her best intentions at heart. Meanwhile, Adriana sees an opening to take Lisa's side in all of this in an attempt to make a friend. Nicole and her father (rest in peace Mr. Martin) have a lunch where instead of meeting his girlfriend, Nicole learns about multiple siblings that she never knew existed. The season continues to deliver and we are excited to see how it wraps up! This episode is brought to you by Bubly Sparkling Water. No sugar, no calories, ALL SMILES! What's up Bro's? We are in Beverly Hills with the RHOB-HUH Ladies and this season is really starting to heat up! Things are getting more and more strained between Kyle and Diorit as Kyle's friendship with Morgan Wade is seeming to effect her relationships elsewhere. Dorit is having a difficult time processing the new dynamic between her and Kyle and it's causing her to look elsewhere in the group for support. However her brand of support comes with her talking smack about the other ladies. Garcelle and Dorit end up getting into it because Dorit attempts to drag Crystal for simply pointing out that Dorit was talking trash behind Sutton's back about drinking. Garcelle calls her out and blames her privilege for her lack of understanding. Dorit defends herself and ends up alienating herself from the entire group. We're seeing a panicked Dorito without her support from Kyle and as this group continues to evolve with the absence of Rinna and Kathy we are seeing a LOT of new dynamics enter the scene. "Everything On Memory" The Fresno-born, Modesto-raised Jim Fairchild got his start on guitar as a teenager and in the mid-nineties became the lead guitar player for the indie rock outfit Grandaddy. That would be enough to make a resume' shimmer, but Fairchild was just getting started. He was the touring guitar player for Giant Sand, he worked with everyone from Hawaii to Dappled Cities and he took over for Johnny Marr in Modest Mouse in 2009 and played lead guitar for them until 2021. Fairchild fronted the band All Smiles, he was selected to lead a project at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2010 and started a new project called Grace Meridian in 2020. But that's not all—Fairchild currently is the Director of A&R for Dangerbird Records and he's scoring films like the documentary Common Ground and Bee The Change, which is narrated by Ellie Goulding. And we haven't even talked about Small Isles yet. Their new EP Everything On Memory has been described by Fairchild as, "written as the imagined score to a Christopher Nolan-directed movie I dreamt about in which Donald and Steven Glover wrote a script in response to Modest Mouse's "Third Planet”. To my ears, Small Isles' new release is a moody blend of spellbinding cinemascapes, arching crescendos, soaring distant melodies and futuristic percussion, all of which adds up to one of the most spellbinding releases of the year. Fairchild recently scored the documentary film Common Ground (Donald Glover, Laura Dern, Woody Harrelson, Rosario Dawson, Ian Somerhalder) which won the Tribeca Film Festival “Human/Nature” award. He is currently working on the follow up, Bee The Change narrated by Ellie Goulding, which will premiere at COP 28 (United Nations Climate Change Conference). As you may know by now... I use the title of one of the tunes from the episodes playlist, as the title of the episode. It's my attempt to tie the songs to the show and keep it all about the music, the thing I love. It is also, in most cases, a nod to a great composer or performer, in this instance it is both. The title of the episode is "Jitterbug Waltz" penned by a truly remarkable and prolific composer, stride piano player, showman, broadway hitmaker and King of Harlem - Thomas "Fats" Waller. The title is also a nod to the performer Jason Moran, a fellow remarkable pianist and composer like "Fats" Waller. Jason Moran, who is currently the Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz, deconstructs the well known composition "Jitterbug Waltz" as a closing track on this episode.  Plus, I get the added bonus of a cool title that is instantly recognizable and likely to get the audiences attention. I am fighting for those "likes" y'all!! So, like the show, subscribe to it and dance like ya' got jitterbugs in yo' pants! Peace, Brian "katzpheno" Phoenix featuring: Herlin Riley - Twelve's It (2019) Gregory Porter - Lonesome Lover (2013) The Roy Hargrove Quintet - Strasbourg/St. Denis (2008) Ben Williams - Black Villian Music (2015) Stefano Bollani - Impro IV (2006) Warren Wolf - The Struggle (2020) Woody Shaw - Why? Episode 31 is back after being banned from all streaming platforms. New (the same) and improved (still mid) with certain sonic elements removed (as to not get sued). It's time to find out which LPs and/or 12” singles filed under the letter “G” from Jay & Deon's collections they love most, then rap about the bands behind the vinyl. GO! -- In the early 1970s, legendary collaborator and self-proclaimed non-musician Brian Eno famously designed a deck of 115 cards containing elliptical imperatives to spark in the user creative connections unobtainable through regular modes of work. He called his creation "Oblique Strategies." For the past half century, countless artists and professionals across the globe have benefited from utilizing the oblique strategies technique when attempting to overcome a lull in creative output. In 2024, idiotic, introverted one-time award-winning* hobby podcasters and self-proclaimed Lightnin' Lickers Jay and Deon found themselves uninspired when contemplating the potential themes of their upcoming thirty-first episode. Together, they decided... to default back to the alphabet. Because they have a reasonably good solid grasp of the alphabet and how it works. They had previously utilized the letters A thru F, so naturally, they went with G. The “G” mixtape: (A1) Game Theory – Erica's World (A2) Grant Green – We've Only Just Begun (A3) Grazia – Soyle Beni (A4) Goodie Mob – Cell Therapy (A5) Glitterhouse – I Lost me a Friend (B1) Gure featuring Roy Ayers – Take a Look (at Yourself) (B2) Grandaddy – Hewlitt's Daughter (B3) Marvin Gaye – Trouble Man (B4) Guadalcanal Diary – 3 AM (B5) The Goon Sax – Sweaty Hands Sonic contributors to the thirty-first episode of Lightnin' Licks Radio, the letter “G” redux, include: Prince Paul, Brothers Johnson, James Todd Smith, Arc of All and The Source of Light and Power, J. Geils Band, Geto Boys, The Goon Sax, The Go-Betweens, Guadalcanal Diaries, Let's Active, Guru, Roy Ayers, Gangstarr, Donald Byrd, DJ Premier, MC Solar, Game Theory, Loud Family, Goodie Mob, Cee-lo Green, Dungeon Family, Gnarls Barkley, Grandaddy, Jason Lytle, Mercury Rev, All Smiles, Grant Green, Rudy VanGelder, The Carpenters, Glitterhouse, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Young-Holt Unlimited, Grazia, Marco Bachir, also Bachir Attar with Elliot Sharp, Cervo, Radio Trip, Jimmy Buffet, and The Clockers.  *2023 Review magazine readers' choice; best live streaming production   --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/llradio/message

NO ROME、「WHEN SHE COMES AROUND」 フィリピン・マニラ出身のNEWアーティスト、ノーローム。 「When She Comes Around」 現在、24歳のノーロームですが、The 1975のメンバーの強力バックアップを受け、 ロンドンを拠点に活動していましたが、、、 昨年、コロナ禍となり、ノーロームは、地元フィリピンに戻りました。

On retrouve A calf born in winter en deuxième titre. The Universe Smiles Upon You. Le 12 juillet sortent simultanément All Smiles on You et Hasta el Cielo. On retrouve A calf born in winter en deuxième titre. The Universe Smiles Upon You. Le 12 juillet sortent simultanément All Smiles on You et Hasta el Cielo. Heather is a published author, having written "Choosing Life: One PT tells her own story of living with multiple sclerosis" for ADVANCE for Physical Therapy & Rehab Medicine journal, as well as several blog posts about MS Challenge Walk. Also in this episode: advice from steering committee co-chair Jack Enright, given to attendees at the Jumpstart your Fundraising brainstorming session on May 19, about how to conduct a letter-writing campaign.
