A few of us in the shop have noticed that the required experience for drivers has been lowered in the last few years and we have all noticed the “quality” of drivers has drastically dropped. We have had upset drivers that come in yelling and screaming after getting fired or not getting their way (most of them are of the non English speaking variety). A few of us have kept pistols in our toolboxes for years. The safety department and upper management tell everyone “it's against company policy”. They are all great bosses and understand what is actually happening. They then talk for 10 minutes about the high end 1911 they keep in their desk. A couple of us have purchased the North American Arms .22 magnum, folding revolvers to pocket carry. They look like a standard pocket knife clip from 5 feet away and no one notices. The single action and 5 shot capacity is less than desirable though. We were talking and arguing over what is the best gun/holster combination that could conceal perfectly and not get caught on equipment. We are all 5'9- 6′ 1″, 160lbs to 220lbs. Not skinny, not fat. Appendix carry is not ideal. We were all thinking less than $700 total setup. The weapons will get beat up and dirty on occasion. What is your thoughts on ankle holsters? We would prefer 9mm. Would combination would you guys recommend? If no decision can be made, our young parts guy is a 21 year old virgin. He is 6′ 5″ and 350lbs. We could always have him rape the driver to death. After Congress slashed the National Firearms Act (NFA) tax on silencers and short-barreled firearms, nearly every gun-rights group in the country promised to sue in an effort to overturn those sections of the law outright. Now, a few weeks later, those groups have nearly all sorted into two coalitions, and they've both filed suit. One coalition, led by Gun Owners of America (GOA), filed in the Fifth Circuit. Another, led by the National Rifle Association (NRA), filed in the Eighth Circuit. To analyze the arguments of each case, we've got independent gun-rights lawyer Matt Larosiere on the show. He's brought both tax power and Second Amendment challenges against the NFA before. So, he has direct experience with the claims at issue in both cases. Larosiere said he is on board with the logic behind the GOA and NRA lawsuits, but he argued they face a difficult climb to achieve their goals. He said tax challenges are more complex than most people imagine, and it can be difficult for Second Amendment attorneys to navigate the waters of a successful pleading. This week, we're talking about an under-discussed part of federal gun law and a significant recent update to it. While most gun owners know you need to pass a background check to buy a gun from a licensed dealer. And most also know you need to pass one to get a concealed carry license. But many don't know their concealed carry license can be used to bypass the sales background check requirement--at least, in certain states. That list of states got longer this week as the result of a Gun Owners of America (GOA) lawsuit and President Donald Trump's executive review of gun policy. Now, 30 states have "Brady Permits" that allow holders to bypass the sales check. GOA's Sam Paredes joins the podcast to walk through the years-long legal fight. He lays out how GOA plans to lobby states to change their laws to qualify for the alternative status. He also said GOA plans to file follow-up suits to get ATF to recognize even more permits. The document, received in November 2024, reveals that the ATF has been monitoring online gun forums, social media websites, and law-abiding gun owners for over a decade, with an intelligence assessment on internet firearm sales dating back to November 2015.,The GOA claims that the ATF is abusing its power by targeting and harassing law-abiding citizens instead of focusing on actual criminals. The document shows that the ATF monitors lawful transactions and continues to surveil gun owners even after potential threats are deemed not credible. The ATF also misstates the law, claiming that greater anonymity in firearm purchases indicates a higher likelihood of violating federal law, despite Congress protecting gun owner privacy since 1986.,The ATF considers popular websites like Craigslist, AR15.com, Reddit, and Facebook as "unregulated marketplaces" and part of the "Deep Web," actively monitoring posts on these platforms. Richard Mack is the former sheriff of Graham County, Arizona and a political activist. He is known for his role in a successful lawsuit brought against the federal government of the United States which alleged that portions of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act violated the United States Constitution. He is a former lobbyist for Gun Owners of America (GOA) and a two-time candidate for United States Congress. Oregon's gun-control ballot initiative has put it at the center of the fight over guns in America. As the political battle ended with victory for Measure 114 and the deadline to implement a non-existent permit-to-purchase system closed in, a new front opened in the courts. Sam Paredes, a Gun Owners of America (GOA) board member and treasurer of the Gun Owners Foundation, was on the frontline of that legal battle. While multiple federal suits were unable to secure a Temporary Restraining Order against the law, GOA was able to convince a state judge the measure violated the Oregon Constitution's protections for the right to keep and bear arms. That decision has held thus far, despite an attempt by the state to get the Oregon Supreme Court to throw it out. Paredes joined the show this week to talk about where things stand now, and what's coming down the line. He said gun sales in Oregon will go on as usual for the time being, and the ban on magazines that hold more than ten rounds won't go into effect. But the fight isn't over as the state scrambles to create the permitting process and take the biggest practical issues with Measure 114 off the table. However, Paredes said GOA is encouraged by the Oregon Supreme Court's decision not to immediately intervene in the case. He said they may be hesitant to overturn the lower court's pro-gun ruling in the wake of the United States Supreme Court's ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. He argued they may not want to run afoul of Bruen and be overturned themselves. But the federal judge overseeing challenges to Measure 114 disagreed. She ruled the permit-to-purchase requirement and magazine ban likely don't violate the Second Amendment even under Bruen's text and tradition standard. Paredes said that judge did the analysis wrong. He argued the targeted magazines are in common use and protected, given SCOTUS's rulings in Heller and Caetano, and the permit-to-purchase law has no historical analogue. For the second time in two years, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden is being sued for delays in processing concealed handgun permits and pistol purchase permits. Carolina Journal reports: The second lawsuit and request for injunctive relief was filed by retired former N.C. Supreme Court and Court of Appeals Judge Bob Hunter and N.C. Attorney Ron Shook in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of N.C. on behalf of Grassroots North Carolina (GRNC) and the Gun Owners of America (GOA) organizations. Andy Stevens and Bryan Yerke, spokesmen for plaintiffs GRNC and GOA, held a press conference at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse on Nov. 28 to address the latest lawsuit against McFadden. Sheriff McFadden was initially sued by GRNC and GOA in 2021 over the department's continued delay of gun permit issuances. The result of the litigation ended with McFadden agreeing to comply with state law regarding gun permit applications. In a statement to WSOC-TV, Sheriff McFadden admits he is sending all applications through the Veterans Administration - even though the VA reports information to the already-available NICS background check system. “At this time MCSO has not received service/notice pertaining to this alleged lawsuit. MCSO continues to remain in compliance with the Pistol Purchase Permits (PPP) and Concealed Handgun Permits (CHP) statue. The agency has 14-days to process a PPP and 45-days for a CHP once we have received all required paperwork, including ALL mental health releases. Applications are processed first in, first out, and unfortunately, the facilities do not send the releases back in chronological order. We have also found that not everyone discloses their military status on their application, so to be sure we are getting accurate information our process is to check everyone through the same facilities which include the VA. Since the beginning of the pandemic MCSO has implemented several changes to the process to be more efficient to include mailing permit(s) to customers to eliminate visits to the office. Last year the division also added two additional staff members. In this interview, we sat down with Wes Virdell, the Texas state director of Gun Owners of America (GOA), the second-largest gun lobby organization in the United States. The mission of GOA is to pass legislation that supports the Second Amendment while holding legislators accountable for their pro-Second Amendment campaign promises. Our discussion begins with Virdell's belief that the Second Amendment is the only thing keeping the U.S. federal government at bay right now. Virdell highlights the world's long history of tyrants disarming their citizens prior to exerting total control over their livelihoods. He points out how other western countries have recently given up their gun rights only to be saddled by their own government with tyrannical policies. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #138 John Crump Black Swan Media    John Crump is one of those content creators that is just about everywhere. Our paths must have crossed somewhere. Regardless, John was up for being on the show when I made a trip to Virginia. He says he does his shows from his mother's basement. She was nice enough to offer me some cookies and milk.    John, often known as Crump, or even Crumpy, has lots of things going on. He tells us that he grew up in a house full of Democrats and he was the only Constitutionalist in the family. So he's been consistent throughout. Once he gets into something, he's ALL in.  When he got into firearms, he ended up starting one gun store and buying another just to have the inventory. He submitted something to Ammoland and it was published.  The next week, he sent another article to them and that was published.  Then a third the next week. Eventually, Ammoland just said John should write for them.    He's got his hand in some other content, too.  He's got a daily YouTube channel, John Crump Live.  There's a variety of guests and topics, covering just about anything that is firearm or freedom related. Then there's John Crump News. Like the title says, it's where he puts out news of what's going on. He's also helping other content creators, too.  Folks like DLD After Dark, Flying Rich, Trench Work Chronicles, Shooting Gallery New England (RSWC #106), and 2A EDU.  Plus he creates t-shirts and patches.  All of this is under the Black Swan Media brand.  There's a story behind Black Swan Media that he shares with us.  One of the things that keeps John going is being an insomniac and not sleeping much.    John also tells us a bit about buying firearms in Virginia.  He also talks about his connection to Gun Owners of America (GOA) and their involvement with Virginia Citizens Defense League. I was a little surprised that an 18 year old can buy a handgun and carry it openly. Much of northern Virginia is ‘occupied territory' and the rest of Virginia is ‘free America' as I often call regions like these.    With all of the interviews he's done, he did a compilation of sorts.  He took some transcripts of the best interviews and turned it into a book called Speaking With Giants. Some of the interviewees are RSWC passengers!
