Kristine Schachinger is on the road this week speaking at the iGB Live Amsterdam conference so we had a special guest live from Amsterdam NL, Julia Logan, perhaps better known in SEO circles as Irish Wonder. Julia is a long-time web consultant who has practiced SEO since 2000. In 2020 she founded a boutique agency, Zangoose Digital. Jim, Kristine, and Julia have a wide-ranging conversation that just jumps in at one of Julie's many specialties, mainstream media's enormous effect on the online gaming space, which was the topic of her session at IGBLive. We also talked about the history of SEO, work in the DEV trenches, the effects of AI on the gaming industry and content creation, and the long-term implications for search marketing. Ultimately, this was a fun high-level conversation between three long-term web marketers who find the job and each other fascinating. We eventually got around to covering the week's SEO news. Innovation technologique Liliane Bettencourt (2022-2023) - Lydéric BocquetCollège de FranceAnnée 2022-2023Colloque - La nanofluidique à la croisée des chemins : Spectroscopy of Nanoconfined and Flowing WaterWater at interfaces differs from bulk water, in both its physical structure and chemical composition. In particular, the role of the termination of the hydrogen-bonded network, the role of charges at interfaces, and the effect of surface charge on water and counterion arrangement have been intensely researched. Advanced surface-specific spectroscopies have contributed substantially to these insights. We have a reasonably good molecular-level understanding of water at interfaces. In contrast, nanoconfined water, and water flowing under non-equilibrium have been much less studied, owing to the challenge of 'seeing' a small number of water molecules under non-equilibrium.I will show our recent results on the spectroscopy of sub-nanometer confined and flowing water. For water 2D-confined to sub-nanometer dimensions, we observe distinct layering effects. For water flowing along a graphene surface, we find experimental evidence for the recently proposed quantum friction theory.Mischa BonnProf. Dr. Mischa Bonn joined the Max Planck Society in 2011 as one of the directors of the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, heading the division "Molecular Spectroscopy". Mischa completed his MSc degree in physical chemistry - with highest honors - in 1993 at the University of Amsterdam (NL) and performed his PhD research (1993-1996) at the FOM-Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam. After two postdoctoral stays, at the Fritz Haber Institute (1997-1999) and at Columbia University, New York (1998-1999), he became assistant professor in 1999 at Leiden University, to receive tenure and promotion to associate professor in 2002. In 2004, he returned to the Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam as group leader. He has been an extraordinary professor at the University of Amsterdam since 2005 and an honorary professor at Mainz University since 2012. Mischa serves as Deputy Editor for The Journal of Chemical Physics, and as a member of the editorial advisory board of J. Am. Chem. Soc., amongst others. Mischa has won several prizes and awards for his work, including the Gold Medal from the Royal Dutch Chemical Society and the Van 't Hoff Award from the Deutsche Bunsengesellschaft. His scientific interests focus on the development and application of laser-based (ultrafast) spectroscopies to advance our understanding of natural phenomena, specifically at interfaces – often involving Mischa's favorite molecule: water.
The Feb 2023 issue of Contact Lens and Anterior Eye features a review to mark the 75th anniversary of the introduction of the original corneal contact lens of Tuohy in 1948. Patients wearing Tuohy lenses were able to achieve a much longer wearing time compared to those wearing sealed scleral lenses since they eliminated corneal epithelial oedema, a frequent problem which necessitated removal of lenses after a few hours of wear due to cloudy vision. Only some of Tuohy lens wearers exhibited an adverse corneal response such as fluorescein staining after 12, or more, hours of wear. The clinical success of the Tuohy lens and the fact that its fitting procedure was simpler and quicker than that for scleral lenses encouraged optometrists to commence contact lens practice and to implement improvements in the design of the corneal lens. In this episode BCLA commitee members, Fakhruddin and Karin, interview Dr Eef van der Worp about the contents of the paper. Eef is an educator and researcher. He runs his own research & education consultancy 'Eye-Contact-Lens' based in Amsterdam (NL). He is on the education committee for a number of international conferences, including the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) in the US and the Dutch Contact Lens Conference (NCC) and Dutch Optometric Society meeting (OVN). He is a board member of the BCLA journal Contact Lens & Anterior Eye.

This is the fifth episode in the BCLA CLEAR series. Scleral lenses were the first type of contact lens to restore vision and protect the ocular surface. With the advent of rigid corneal lenses in the middle of the twentieth century and soft lenses in the 1970's, the use of scleral lenses diminished; in recent times there has been a resurgence in their use driven by advances in manufacturing and ocular imaging technology. Scleral lenses are often the only viable form of contact lens wear across a range of clinical indications and can potentially delay the need for corneal surgery. This report provides a brief historical review of scleral lenses and a detailed account of contemporary scleral lens practice including common indications and recommended terminology. Recent research on ocular surface shape is presented, in addition to a comprehensive account of modern scleral lens fitting and on-eye evaluation. A range of optical and physiological challenges associated with scleral lenses are presented, including options for the clinical management of a range of ocular conditions. Future applications which take advantage of the stability of scleral lenses are also discussed. In summary, this report presents evidence-based recommendations to optimise patient outcomes in modern scleral lens practice. Dr Eef van der Worp discusses some of the key findings of this paper with Dr Melissa Barnett. Eef van der Worp is an educator and researcher. He now runs his own research & education consultancy 'Eye-Contact-Lens' based in Amsterdam (NL). He is on the education committee for a number of international conferences, including the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) in the US and the Dutch Contact Lens Conference (NCC) and Dutch Optometric Society meeting (OVN). Eef is adjunct assistant Professor at Pacific University College of Optometry (Oregon, USA), and adjunct Professor at the University of Montreal University College of Optometry (CA) and he is lecturing extensively worldwide and is a guest lecturer at a number of Universities in the US and Europe. Dr. Barnett is a principal optometrist at the University of California, Davis Eye Center in Sacramento and Davis, California. She is an internationally recognized key opinion leader, specializing in dry eye disease and specialty contact lenses. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association and serves on multiple Boards. Dr. Barnett is Past President of The Scleral Lens Education Society. BCLA CLEAR is an initiative that has drawn together thousands of research papers on many different aspects of contact lenses into one place. The findings were published in, Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, the BCLA's scientific journal, in April 2021 under ten reports. BCLA CLEAR was facilitated by the BCLA, with financial support by way of Educational Grants for collaboration, publication and dissemination provided by Alcon and CooperVision.
Given the rapidity with which critically ill patients with bleeding can deteriorate, having a standardised approach to transfusion in these patients can be of great assistance to clinicians working in time-pressured circumstances. An expertise task force created within ESICM has developed an https://doi.org/10.1007/s00134-021-06531-x (international guideline )that provides guidance for clinicians caring for critically ill patients with massive and non-massive bleeding. 26 clinical practice recommendations (2 strong recommendations, 13 conditional recommendations, 11 no recommendations), and 11 PICO (population, intervention, comparison, and observation) with insufficient evidence to make recommendations were generated and published. To understand and clarify further this research, Dr Helms, ICM Associate Editor, has interviewed one of the leading experts of this study Dr A. Vlaar. Check out the following podcast to learn more. "It's 10pm. Do You know where your children are?" narrates the struggles of teenagers dealing with their queerness within varying family dynamics and socio-political realities. The intertwined stories of the two protagonists touch upon memories, expectations and values shared between parents and their offspring with a diasporic background, unveiling the confluence of primary feelings of love, hate, desire and regret. Nicholas Grafia and Mikołaj Sobczak combine these anachronistic, personal fragments with other texts such as news items, statistics and research outcomes relating to BIPoC and LGBTQI+ individuals. The artists not only seek to negotiate individual positions in relation to religion, Slavic and Philippine folk traditions, scientific data and lived experiences, but also make the complexity of intergenerational, reciprocal understanding palpable. The podcast "It's 10pm. Do You know where your children are?" is a reworked version of an earlier staged performance. Since 2014 Nicholas Grafia and Mikołaj Sobczak often collaborate for performances and video installations, with which they reveal stories of marginalized people, and challenge notions of heteronormativity, patriarchism and eurocentrism. Their collaborative works have among others been shown and/or performed at the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw (PL); Museum Ludwig, Cologne (DE); Shedhalle, Zürich (CH); Dortmunder Kunstverein (DE). Nicholas Grafia (born in 1990, Philippines) holds a MFA from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (DE). He has previously studied at the Kunstakademie Münster (DE) and the School of Arts and Cultures in Newcastle (UK) as well as British, American and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Münster (DE). Mikołaj Sobczak (born in 1989, Poland) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Warsaw (PL) in the Studio of Spatial Activities, followed by a scholarship at Universität der Künste Berlin (DE), and studied at the Kunstakademie Münster (DE). From September 2021, he will start a two-year residency at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam (NL). Postproduction: Nagel Eins Studio Berlin

My complete live set from ADE Festival. Recorded live from WesterUnie on 19-10-2016. Enjoy.
Performed by Goska Isphording (harpsichord) and Anne Veinberg (toy pianos) during the Prix Annelie de Man on May 28th, 2015 at Het Orgelpark in Amsterdam (NL). In this piece, two toy pianos are combined with a two-manual harpsichord - an instrument with a long history and an impressive repertory, as opposed to the toy piano. Although both keyboards are so different in every respect, they are forming a unit where the differences are reconciled and their individual "weakness" is counter-balanced by the other instrument. With "united forces" (so the translation of the latin title), they are creating a new entity which results in a new sound, something that has never been heard before.
