Jamie McLennan was the first guest on today's show. He gave his thoughts on what to expect from both the Oilers and Golden Knight heading into tonight's game. Noodles then game some love to Kane, Bouchard, Stecher and Podkolzin. Noodles finished with his thoughts on Stuart Skinner and what to expect from him tonight. After Noodles, we quickly got into The Fan Zone presented by FansFirst to get a quick nerve check from the nasties and YTT heading into tonight's game… we then transitioned to our Early Bird Bet presented by Play Alberta. After the sports update in the middle of the hour, we got right into Free Advice for Damon Bunting! Lots of great advice around the room today. To finish off hour two, like we always do on Wednesday's… Eric Macramalla joined the show to talk some sports and plenty of shenanigans. Macramalla did also provide an update on the Hockey Canada trial out East.

Today, we talk about the early history of the Midnight Express, Joe Stecher, and the highly controversial book by Downtown Bruno (Bruno Lauer). Come and join me for some great pro wrestling history!

Today's discussion takes a profound turn as we delve into the unique collaboration between Ben and his neurologist Dr. Alfanso Fasano, who is a Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Neurology) at the University of Toronto. Together, they've co-authored ‘Reprogramming The Brain‘, a book that offers a new vision for the future of brain science and neuromodulation. It's Friday afternoon, and the Oilers are coming off a pair of big wins, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the latest episode of Oilersnation Radio. This week, we're looking at the Oilers' current win streak, Mattias Ekholm's big night, and a whole lot more.Kicking off the new episode of ONR, the podcast started with a delicious debate about whether or not Troy Stecher has done enough to become an everyday player over someone like Ceci or Desharnais. In last night's game against Buffalo, Stecher played very well while Ceci struggled a little bit, and that has Oilers fans wondering if it's time for a switch on defensive pairings.Continuing with our coverage of last night's win, we keyed in on a handful of fantastic performances that contributed to the win. From Mattias Ekholm's three-point night to Connor McDavid's four-point night to Darnell Nurse's game winner, there were plenty of fantastic stories from last night's win that were worth celebrating.Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a handful of Ask the Idiots questions, some betting talk for Bet99, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers before winding things down with some score predictions ahead of tomorrow's matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was also a member of the Barclays Technology Management Committee. We discussed:How Blackstone leverages technology internally and externally to create value. Why alts are still sold, not bought. Why he sees the biggest evolution happening in the finance and accounting space within private markets — and what innovations are being built there. Why the front office of private markets will still require human intervention despite technology advancements. Why the alts space needs systematization. How product structure innovation (i.e. evergreen funds, etc.) is driving technology innovation. How private markets are becoming more consumer oriented. Thanks John for coming on the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast to share your wisdom and experience of building core technology for capital markets and private markets.
Brain Talk | Being Patient for Alzheimer's & dementia patients & caregivers
High-tech treatments for neurodegenerative diseases are on the horizon. In fact, some patients already have brain implants that help address their symptoms through “reprogramming the brain.” Hear from one patient and his doctor about the real-life story behind this innovative new treatment for Parkinson's. Speaker, author, and Parkinson's Disease advocate Benjamin Stecher and neurologist Dr. Alfonso Fasano, join Being Patient live talks to discuss their upcoming book on just this topic, Reprogramming the Brain. The upcoming book, traces the experience of Stecher and his doctor Fasano's 2021 decision to surgically implant two six-inch-long metal alloy spikes all the way through his brain. With the patient and doctor writing about the experience and what was to come afterward, the upcoming book will serve as a guide for the future of the brain and neuromodulation. Stecher, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at age 29, speaks regularly at academic centers and biotech companies about neurodegenerative diseases, research advocacy, and healthcare. The founder of Tomorrow Edition, he is a patient advisor to several organizations, including the Toronto Western Hospital Movement Disorder Clinic and Rune Labs. In addition to his upcoming book, he also co-wrote Brain Fables with Alberto Espay, published by Cambridge University Press. Fasano, who holds the Chair in Neuromodulation at the University of Toronto and University Health Network, is also a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. In addition, he is staff neurologist and co-director of the Surgical Program for Movement Disorders at Toronto Western Hospital, staff neurologist at the Hospital of Sick Children in Toronto, and clinician investigator at the Krembil Research Institute and KITE – Toronto Rehabilitation Hospital. His work focuses on the treatment of movement disorders with advanced technology, pathophysiology, and treatment of tremor and gait disorders.
On tonight's episode, we dive into some of the wildest NHL trades from the on-going trade deadline madness. How many trades will the Golden Knights end the deadline with? Does Hanifin move the needle significantly, or is he a nice upgrade that still leaves room for them to improve at forward? Did the Oilers make some sneaky great acquisitions in Henrique and Stecher? Just how low are these rental prices? What did the marquee name in Jake Guentzel end up getting traded for? Was his trade return significant, or more quantity over quality? With Winnipeg continuing to operate in radio silence mode, what might the Jets be cooking up right before the deadline strikes? Centered on one of our greatest film stars in the form of Robert Mitchum, you'll hear two different conversations with two brilliant women, recorded over the course of the summer to clock in at a combined total of two hours. If anyone deserves that much time & attention, it's Robert Mitchum!First up, we have blogger & historian Raquel Stecher, who joins me to cover some of the actor's most famous performances in the films OUT OF THE PAST, BLOOD ON THE MOON, RIVER OF NO RETURN, THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, & THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE. After that, actress-turned-producer Amy Robinson returns to share her thoughts on the man whose six-decade-spanning career she did a deep dive into during the pandemic. In addition to a general appreciation of what Robert Mitchum brought to film history, she chose to tackle one of his most unexpected & fascinating collaborations with his good friend Deborah Kerr, with whom he starred in the films HEAVEN KNOWS MR. ALLISON, THE SUNDOWNERS, THE GRASS IS GREENER, & REUNION AT FAIRBOROUGH. I continue my series on the history of pro wrestling at Madison Square Garden as we dive into the World War I era. Most of the top heavyweights are away at war and the championship picture becomes shaky. Ed "Strangler" Lewis, Joe Stecher, and Wladek Zybszko are still in the title picture. Following the war we get one of the biggest showdowns to date: Joe Stecher vs Earl Caddock which still exists on film.
Y'all know that I love a good quote: after all, it's one of the opening questions I have asked each one of my guests for the podcast, and today is no different. However, I'd love to throw in a bonus quote for you today from a famous movie that includes fried green tomatoes, the Whistle Stop Cafe, and Fannie Flagg. “It's funny when you're a child, you think time will never go by, but when you hit about twenty, time passes like you're on the fast train to Memphis. I guess life just slips up on everybody. It sure did on me.” I find this quote so relevant to both the conversation in this episode and as we navigate through this third half of life. Today's guest is dear to my heart and actually the mom of Melissa Stecher, who I chatted to all the way back in episode 14. Kim Stetcher is a devout Catholic Christian and keener than her beans gardener. Listen in as we chat about: Building a circle of love. A prayer group that has been going strong since 2004 and provided phenomenal support even more than anyone thought possible. How Kim's gardening love has developed and played a part in her life through her dad, family, mentors, and working career. Starting small with seeds and now growing to schedules, plans, and all the wisdom along the way. The difference between heirloom seeds can make and how Kim's family is now on board to build a legacy and help her produce enough to share with friends, family and support services in the community. How to start, even if you're a complete beginner. The benefits of growing your own produce and how easy it can be to start with a seed. Kim is developing ways to share her wisdom and skills, and in the meantime, I invite you to reach out to me with any questions and comments at teachingyourselftolearn@gmail.com or via the website www.teachingyourselftolearn.com. To connect and apply to be a guest and share your story, you can reach Holly at www.teachingyourselftolearn.com. This episode is made possible by the New Author Intensive. A very famous era for pro wrestling at Madison Square Garden is the focus of today's show. The 19-teens would see the death of the unbeaten World heavyweight champion Frank Gotch and the split of the world championship into various factions. Among them is Joe Stecher who has his match with the famous Masked Marvel. Ed "Strangler" Lewis becomes more prominent in our story. Raquel Stecher has spent most of her career writing about classic movies, so it doesn't come as a shock that she's dipped back into the 1940s for her very good year - 1949, to be precise, the year that marked the beginning of the end for the studio system. It was also the golden age of film noir, so her top five is bursting with examples and variations on the genre (as well as a VERY non-noir turn by one of its icons). Melissa Stecher is a professional organizer, author and founder of Hopeful Simplicity, but the road that brought her to where she is today started with a "driveway moment" that wasn't so pretty. She found herself overwhelmed as a parent by the feeling of 'it's all on me'. Managing all the people, places and things of Home life was too stressful for her to handle. Desperate for a solution, she gathered herself together and began a hopeful journey. She swapped out unsuccessful organizing systems, harsh chemicals and bad habits for compromises and successes. Thanks to just 15 minutes a day, one small space at a time, she found Hope in her chaos and clutter. Now, she and her son save time, save money and enjoy living Less Stressed lives together.
