Episode #116: What a thrill to interview author and journalist Allison Gilbert, who met with Dr. Ruth Westheimer, of blessed memory, every week for a year during what would be the last year of Dr. Ruth's life. Together they worked on Dr. Ruth's final book, The Joy of Connections: 100 Ways to Beat Loneliness and Live a Happier and More Meaningful Life.Dr. Ruth was determined to help people suffering from loneliness and dysfunctional friendships, and I believe this book accomplishes that task. We just need everyone to read it! I underlined parts of every chapter and folded over MANY pages because I adore Dr. Ruth's straightforward, solution-oriented advice. For this episode, I forced myself to choose, what in my opinion, are the top 8 no-nonsense Dr. Ruth friendship nuggets of pure wisdom I'm certain will help you with your friendships the most. Sarah says she might want to be alone forever, but will this peaceful moment be forever? Sarah explains why communal tables are back in style, but Susie is not impressed. We hear why Sarah's worst date ever involved a case of mistaken identity and dirty fingernails. Plus, did you know Sarah's had ringworm. Now you do. We mourn our quirky king and queen Richard Simmons and Dr. Ruth, and explain why weirdos are the best. We discuss the gamification of, well, everything, why we always fall for it, and why capitalism is stealing the fun of actual games from us. Plus, Susie loses her mind about men who are "raw-dogging" on airplanes and "aura-maxxing" instead of being useful and helping people.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Head to https://moshlife.com/braincandy to save 20% off plus FREE shipping on your first 6-count Trial Pack.Get an exclusive 10% off your first order at https://thrivecausemetics.com/BRAINCANDYSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be considered disturbing, frightening and in some cases even offensive. Listener Discretion is therefore advised. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I'm your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, monsters lurking under your bed or deep in the forest, that unknown creature lurking just out of sight and frighteningly imagined creatures, ghosts, supernatural beings and even some unsolved mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today's Dark enigma well I had an interesting weekend and I'm hoping you guys will like where I go with today's show. From time to time life will surprise you one of those mind-blowing amazing facts that it will rock your worldview down to its very core. This was my weekend, but no spoilers here, you'll have to hang out and listen as the story unfolds. Now, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is yours, as always my heathens, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say Sniper that will be a single shot and every time I say female, that will be a double shot. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so prepare yourself for Tales of Female Snipers and The Mysterious All Female Sniper Squad of World War II. So as I said it was a strange revelation for me. Knowing I'm a kid of the 80's and 90's I grew up with the openness of any topic in my family, so of course, I was very drawn to the frankness of one Doctor Ruth. You know you guys remember her, the sweet grandmotherly lady that talked openly and frankly about sex. Much of the world will know Dr. Ruth as the short little old lady who talks pretty explicitly about sex. Many were captivated by her wisdom while others were just dumbfounded at what looked like their grandmother talking a whole lot about sex.

Our special guest and LGBTQ+ ally, Deejay George Jett, discusses these scenarios with Mike... and then show goes completely South. We may have just answered our own question while taping this broadcast.
