Welcome to the Dior Talks podcast series themed around the seventh edition of Dior Lady Art and hosted by Paris-based journalist Katya Foreman. For this year's event, 11 artists from around the world have participated in a game of metamorphosis by rendering the iconic Lady Dior handbag as a unique piece of art. Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, and based in Brooklyn, New York, our latest guest, Sara Cwynar, is fascinated by the visual politics of popular images, how they infiltrate our consciousness, and how images and objects change in value over time. Themes range from feminism to consumer culture. The self-taught artist started out working as a graphic designer for the New York Times Magazine, going on to graduate with an MFA in photography from Yale. Drawn to create art, she started out making works in her parents' garage, creating compositions using sourced images and objects found in drawers or the local dollar store. Kitsch is a recurring source of inspiration, drawing on everything from costumes worn as a competitive figure skater during her childhood to the theories of Roland Barthes and Milan Kundera, who in his seminal work, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being,” explores kitsch as something more sinister that takes on existential meaning. Cwynar's large red Lady Dior in quilted leather is covered in patches of images sourced from museum archives and art history books, interspersed with stock photos depicting everything from birds to lips, the latter revisited in a 3D print by the Dior team. “I wanted to make a kind of encyclopedic object, a mini history, that someone carries around on their arm,” says the artist. On a smaller bag in mustard yellow, photo patches are encapsulated in a second transparent skin forming the iconic ‘cannage' pattern. Inside, the lining is covered in a picture of blue sky and clouds, with this idea that “You enter the bag and then you go into another world.” Tune into the episode to learn more about her fascinating world.

Episode 27 of Paranormal Stories. This week the books are 'Soul to God: A Soul's Journey Over Many Lives' by Michael Kramer and 'Alien In The Mirror: Extraterrestrial Contact Theories & Evidence' by Randall Fitzgerald.Randall Fitzgerald 'Alien In The Mirror: Extraterrestrial Contact Theories & Evidence'For independent-minded readers, those who want all of the theories and supporting evidence to make up their own minds, Alien in the Mirror brings refreshing clarity and sanity to a topic long shrouded in smoke and mirror confusion.Encyclopedic in its scope and mind-expandingly rich in its detail, this book is destined to be a classic, written by an investigative reporter, Randall Fitzgerald, who has studied the alien contact phenomenon for over five decades. All aspects of this controversial subject are comprehensively covered—ancient astronaut theories, UFOs and UFO occupants, contactees and abductees, the ideas of skeptics and debunkers, and the SETI science program and its detractors. Each of the five sections open with new findings and stunning revelations from the author's own thorough investigations.Alien in the Mirror is quite literally a condensation of information from hundreds of books. It represents the most authoritative and complete guide to the realm of extraterrestrial contact, theories and evidence, ever compiled. It presents a fascinating definitive history of the phenomenon, giving readers objective and essential information that challenges us to reexamine what we think we know about our consensus reality. As the legendary theorist and scientist Jacques F. Vallée writes in his Foreword to Alien in the Mirror: “This book will stand as testimony to a well-traveled road of investigation and wonder. We should acknowledge it with gratitude, not only for its neat classification of complex events, but for the hope it gives us of a long-delayed, much welcome re-awakening of the true spirt of science after seventy years of slumber.”BioRandall Fitzgerald's ten books (and more than 50 books as a ghostwriter) have been pioneering explorations of a wide variety of topics, reflecting his diverse interests and an insatiable curiosity cultivated by 35 years as a newspaper and magazine journalist. For two decades he was a Roving Editor for Reader's Digest and also wrote investigative feature articles for The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. He began his journalism career at 19, as a general assignment reporter for The Tyler Morning Telegraph, in Tyler, Texas. While in journalism school at the University of Texas at Austin, he worked as a political reporter in the state capitol bureau of The Houston Post and spent a semester as a Congressional Fellow in Washington, D.C., working as press secretary to a U.S. Congressman. In August 1974, the week that Richard Nixon resigned as President, he became an investigative reporter for newspaper syndicated columnist Jack Anderson, in Washington, D.C. He received a grant from the Fund for Investigative Journalism in 1975 to investigate the Mafia and CIA connections of the publisher of The National Enquirer by going undercover as a reporter for the tabloid. His first book contract came from Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster, based on his Enquirer investigation. His second book appeared in 1979, from Macmillan, The Complete Book of Extraterrestrial Encounters, the cover of which was immortalized in Ron Howard's extraterrestrial-themed film Cocoon. During 1978-80, he co-edited Second Look magazine, devoted to articles about the search for extraterrestrial life, the nature of consciousness, and the origins of civilization. He edited articles from some of the biggest names in science and science fiction---Isaac Asimov, Stanislaw Lem, Sir Fred Hoyle, Paul Davies, Sir Roger Penrose. In 2003 and 2004, he was a Senior Editor of Phenomena magazine, founded by former Hollywood studio executive Jeff Sagansky. Two of his books, Lucky You! (2004, Citadel/Kensington) and The Hundred Year Lie (2006, Penguin/Dutton) were Amazon.com bestsellers. Lucky You! was the first book to examine the link between intuition and luck in games of chance and got distribution in Spanish, Japanese, and Korean editions. The Hundred Year Lie, about the impact of synthetic chemicals on human health, was also published by Beijing University Press in China, where it has been a perennial seller.Based on his Lucky You! book, he was selected in 2005 as the media master of ceremonies for the 100th anniversary celebration of the founding of the city of Las Vegas, on behalf of the Fremont Street Experience, a collection of 10 casinos, including the Golden Nugget, along with the city of Las Vegas, giving live television interviews to dozens of local television stations nationwide. He has been a guest on ABC's The View, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Dr. Mehmet Oz Show, The Michael Smerconish Show, Court TV, CBS' 48 Hours, ABC's 20/20, BBC and PBS Radio, and hundreds of other television and radio shows, including four appearances on The Coast-to-Coast radio show with George Noory.https://alieninthemirror.com/https://www.amazon.com/Alien-Mirror-Extraterrestrial-Theories-Evidence-ebook/dp/B09X874R4P/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1649265119&sr=1-4Michael Kramer 'Soul to God: A Soul's Journey Over Many Lives'At 12 years of age, a powerful spiritual force lifted me out of my body into a world of extreme light, profound love, and bliss. My life goal became to understand and duplicate that experience at will. Guided by an inner presence I began my life study of Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Zen, Taoist and New Age thought in search of answers. At 13, memories began surfacing of my past life as a Tibetan Buddhist Lama, who taught his students the aggressive, dispassionate sport of debate, to logically challenge everyone, including oneself. Challenging religious dogma did not endear me to the Jesuit Brothers at my all-boys, Catholic High School. I was labeled a rebel who challenged religious logic and authority. Thus began my life path and conflict, rejecting traditional thought in search of an all-inclusive wisdom that made sense—that included all religions and sciences, and led to my goal of God Realization. Soul to God is the story of my Soul's journey over many lifetimes, of the miracles and revelations that led to the Divine.BioMichael R. Kramer spent 34 years as a spiritual leader, teacher, public speaker and spiritual counselor. He retired from his business in international graphic design, to focus on supporting the planetary evolution taking place. Michael is living in San Diego California. The rewards of reading Milton with or without a religious commitment. The magnificence of verse informed by a sophisticated knowledge of music. Milton's sense of a total vision in which the Bible, Classical mythology and literature, and other writers, from Plato to Shakespeare, form an interconnected whole, what Northrop Frye calls the order of words. You can get a whole humanistic education from studying Milton. Milton's revolutionary values in religion, politics, and the domestic realm. God as an Inner Light or inward presence, a main source of the later Romantic theory of the imagination. Milton's part in the English Civil War in the cause of liberty, a forerunner of the democratic revolutions of the Romantic era. Milton's attempt to liberalize as far as the Bible permitted the relationship between men and women, including his argument for the freedom of divorce. Milton's great prose work Areopagitica, an argument in favor of freedom of thought and expression. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/michael-dolzani/support

From day one of this pandemic, our government could have utilized the already established research from some doctors on multiple ways to defeat this virus. Today, we are joined by one of them. Dr. Richard Urso has been a board-certified ophthalmologist for over three decades, has developed FDA drugs, and has spent his entire career innovating with repurposed drugs to cure numerous ailments. He has applied that same skill to COVID and has saved countless lives. He shares some of his successful ideas with us and leaves us wondering: Why would our government attack rather than embrace people like Dr. Urso? Learn more about your ad choices. What do you need to make great music? Chops? Theory? Encyclopedic knowledge of the music? Yeah, that too, but if you don't have curiosity, a willingness to engage with people, a giving heart, who is going to want to hear what you have to say? Through sixty years of fusing traditions with experimentation, that was always the message from Roswell Rudd and his trombone. Roswell passed away in December 2017 at the age of 82. Trumpeter Steven Bernstein, who was one of Roswell's musical partners, takes this message to heart. SANDCAST: Beach Volleyball with Tri Bourne and Travis Mewhirter
This episode of SANDCAST: Beach volleyball with Tri Bourne and Travis Mewhirter, features Ed Keller, one of the most passionate human beings in the world when it comes to the sport of beach volleyball. He's a walking BVBinfo, the guy who can tell Phil Dalhausser more about Phil Dalhausser's career than Phil Dalhausser. He's a staple at 16th street, the new central training center for the top AVP professionals, and a longtime friend of Sean Rosenthal, among many of the other big-time AVP leaders -- Casey Patterson, Chase Budinger, Jake Gibb. He arguably knows more about the game, and its history, than anyone we've had on the show, and this podcast was absolute gold. We chat about everything from the 1996 Olympic Games to stories of Sean Rosenthal's youth, to the current Olympic race and Ed Keller's statistical breakdown of what every team needs to do to get in. If you're a fan of beach volleyball, you will LOVE this podcast. We certainly did. SHOOTS!

This week on A Bit of Culture, we tackle three topics with BFM's Hezryl Asyraaf and Matt Armitage. Starting off with Hezryl's idealistic search for the "right time", basing off his thoughts on American politics and serendipitous life events. Kam Raslan then steers the conversation by looking up Google's probable arch nemesis - the Encyclopædia Brittanica. And we round off this week's culture roundtable with Matt's subject on human behaviour online; spotting a gap in the internet sphere, especially during the pandemic.

Paul K. Saint-Amour, Associate Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, is a ruminative thinker and meticulous writer. These traits pay dividends in the surprising insights of his new book, Tense Future: Modernism, Total War, Encyclopedic Form (Oxford University Press, 2015), which reframes total war and literature in the interwar years and in the present moment. The book’s articulation of the partiality of total war, especially its focus on violence committed in the so-called periphery–which denies civilians the protections of officially declared war–is all too familiar in the present. Tense Future, like the texts it examines, defamiliarizes works we thought we knew well. It also makes strange some of the familiar narratives within the field of modernist studies, like that concerning the genre of the Modern Epic. Tense Future decouples encyclopedic form from the modern epic, showing how the encyclopedia inspired interwar writers to playfully wrest totality out of the suffocating grip of total war. Saint-Amour’s boldest claim, that we live in perpetual interwar, sutures the drone attacks of the present to air-war theories developed after the zeppelin raids of WWI. Our own future, though not foreclosed, is nonetheless subject to the aperture of the past. Tense Future reminds us of futures past in order to pry open a little room for hope.
