Every August, for more than 40 years now, the Federal Reserve has held a retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It has become an important venue for Fed communications and investors this week will be focused on Jerome Powell's speech, to be delivered at 10:00AM eastern time (or 8:00AM Wyoming time) on Friday. The topic of this year's conference is “Reassessing the Effectiveness and Transmission of Monetary Policy”, a subject that is well worth careful reconsideration. This, no doubt, will be the focus of Chairman Powell's remarks.

This week on Dopey! It is Dopey Day Again! We are celebrating ChrisMiss and remembering Chris and all of our fallen friends. We are joined by Chris's mom and sister today to remember Chris! We hear about some of their favorite memories and listen to what it's like living on after you lose someone!  PLUS TONS OF VOICEMAILS, EMAILS, REMEMBERING THE FALLEN DOPES! FROM AI: This part of the conversation focuses on the ongoing impact of losing loved ones to addiction and the importance of remembering and honoring their memory. The hosts discuss their personal experiences of remembering those who have passed away and the comfort it brings. They also touch on the significance of anniversaries and milestones in relation to grief. The conversation transitions to Dopey Day, a holiday created to pay homage to those lost to addiction and celebrate those who are still fighting to stay alive. The hosts share messages and greetings from the Dopey Nation community, highlighting the support and connection within the community. They also discuss the grief and healing process, including visiting Chris's grave and engaging in activities that remind them of him. The chapter ends with a reflection on the complexity of addiction and the challenges of recognizing relapse in loved ones. In this part of the conversation, David and Arden discuss the pain and guilt that comes with losing a loved one to addiction. They reflect on their own experiences of not recognizing the signs and blame themselves for not being able to prevent the tragedy. They emphasize the importance of forgiveness and self-compassion in the healing process. They also discuss the difficulty of moving on and the bittersweet feeling of seeing others continue with their lives while their loved one is gone. They share their thoughts on how to support someone who has lost a child and offer advice on finding hope and healing after such a devastating loss. In this part of the conversation, Annie discusses her ambivalence towards the significance of the new year and reflects on her recovery journey. She shares her struggles with addiction, including relapses and the challenges of staying sober. Annie contemplates recommitting to the 12-step program despite her reservations about certain aspects of it. The conversation ends with messages from Dopey Nation members and a classic Dopey episode featuring Chris and Dave. In this final part of the conversation, David Manheim shares some personal stories and anecdotes about his experiences with drugs and recovery. He talks about his disease and the constant struggle to stay sober. He also discusses his experiments with psychedelics and the possibility of achieving similar experiences through meditation and spiritual practices. The conversation ends with various members of the Dopey Nation sharing their messages of love, remembrance, and gratitude. keywordsaddiction, grief, remembrance, Dopey Day, support, community, healing, relapse, addiction, loss, guilt, forgiveness, self-compassion, moving on, support, hope, healing, ambivalence, new year, recovery, addiction, relapse, 12-step program, messages, Dopey episode, personal stories, anecdotes, drugs, recovery, disease, sobriety, psychedelics, meditation, spiritual practices, love, remembrance, gratitude takeaways Remembering and honoring loved ones who have passed away from addiction can bring comfort and a sense of connection. Anniversaries and milestones can be significant triggers for grief and reflection. Dopey Day is a holiday created to pay homage to those lost to addiction and celebrate those who are still fighting to stay alive. The Dopey Nation community provides support and connection for individuals navigating addiction and recovery. Visiting gravesites and engaging in activities that remind us of loved ones can be a way to feel connected and take care of their memory. Recognizing relapse in loved ones can be challenging, especially when they are intelligent and convincing. Losing a loved one to addiction can bring feelings of guilt and self-blame, but it's important to forgive yourself and recognize that the outcome was out of your control. It is not helpful or respectful to ask someone how they didn't know about their loved one's addiction. Each person's experience is unique, and blaming oneself or others does not change the outcome. Over time, the acute grief and self-questioning may fade, but it can resurface on certain days or during difficult moments. It's important to give yourself time and space to process these emotions. Seeing others move on with their lives can be bittersweet for those who have lost a loved one to addiction. It's a reminder of what could have been and can bring a mix of emotions, including hope and pain. Finding support from others who have experienced similar losses can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and provide a sense of understanding and connection. Engaging in acts of service and helping others can be a way to honor the memory of a loved one and find healing in the aftermath of loss. The new year may not hold significant meaning for everyone, and personal growth and change can happen at any time. Recovery from addiction is a challenging journey with ups and downs, and it's important to seek support and make a commitment to change. The 12-step program, while not perfect, can provide a supportive community and structure for recovery. The Dopey Nation community continues to honor and remember Chris and Annie, and their stories inspire others to stay strong in their own recovery journeys. The constant struggle to stay sober and prioritize recovery The potential for psychedelic experiences through meditation and spiritual practices The importance of love, remembrance, and gratitude within the Dopey Nation titles Dopey Day: A Holiday of Remembrance and Celebration Grief and Healing: Navigating the Loss of a Loved One Moving On and Finding Hope Navigating Guilt and Self-Blame Messages from Dopey Nation Contemplating the 12-Step Program Messages of Love, Remembrance, and Gratitude The Struggle of Sobriety and the Disease of Addiction Sound Bites "To know that they're remembered in some capacity, I'm just assuming, you know what I mean?" Friends of the Rosary, Every August, we honor the two martyrs of Auschwitz: St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and St. Maximilian Kolbe. We need to pray hard that we and our world don't return to the inhumanity of violence and war. The social acceptance of euthanasia and abortion puts us on the wrong track. Today, August 9, we celebrate the memorial of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (1891-1942), Virgin and martyr, also known as St. Edith Stein. Born into a prominent Jewish family in Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland), she became a brilliant philosopher, a PhD, a teacher and lecturer at major universities in Germany, and a prolific writer. Captivated by the autobiography and the writings of Teresa of Avila, she converted to Catholicism and entered the Discalced Carmelites in 1933 in Echt, Netherlands. She was arrested by the Nazis when they occupied this country, along with all Catholics of Jewish extraction. Teresa Benedicta and her sister Rosa, also a Catholic, were transported on a cattle train to the death camp of Auschwitz. She died in a gas chamber in Auschwitz on August 9, 1942.Pope John Paul II beatified her in 1987 and canonized in 1998. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Pray for Us! Every August there is a show called Hard Knocks about the training camp of an NFL football team.  This year the show focused on the New York Jets because of their new quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  If you are not a football fan, Aaron Rodgers was a legendary  quarterback of the Green Bay Packers where he won both a Super Bowl and the Most Valuable Player of the league four times—two times in the last three years.  Rodgers was thought to be the missing piece that would help the New York Jets compete for a Super Bowl this year.  The Jets had a lot of stars on their team, but they were missing a great quarterback. Aaron Rodgers was that great quarterback, their missing piece.  His presence created tremendous excitement and expectations. Hard Knocks devoted five full episodes to the building, mounting, surging, soaring excitement that the Jets, so mediocre for so long, were now about to have their moment.             I watched all five episodes.  I did it for our congregation since I was searching for High Holiday content.  The basic plot line of all five episodes is: yay!! Aaron Rodgers is coming to New York.  The excitement mounts.                 Then came the first game. It did not follow the plan.

In this episode, we discuss how easy it is to settle for less than what God offers by clinging to earthly idols and loving other things more than Him. We share about some of our own idols and how turning to God instead has transformed our hearts. We admit how easy it is to accept less than the fullness of life in Jesus and turn to something or someone else in our sorrows. The truth is that Jesus is the only One who can truly satisfy us and bring real comfort in the broken places.     Heather's One Thing - As the Deer Heather's Other One Thing -  “Return”  by Fr. What good things in your life is the Lord calling you to reorder? How might the Lord be inviting you to give up your idols in Lent? What healing have I experienced in the past from loving Christ the most?   Journal Questions: Who/what do I love the most? What am I placing my salvation in rather than God? What idols is the Lord inviting me to give up? What fears do I have about intimacy with the Lord?   Quotes to Ponder: “It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”  ― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory   “Our boat - your talents, your hopes, your achievements - is worth nothing whatsoever unless you leave it in Christ's hands, allowing him the freedom to come aboard. Make sure you don't turn it into an idol. In your boat by yourself, if you try to do without the Master, you are - supernaturally speaking - making straight for shipwreck. Only if you allow and seek his presence and captaincy will you be safe from the storms and setbacks of life. Place everything in God's hands. Let your thoughts, the brave adventures you have imagined, your lofty human ambitions, your noble loves, pass through the heart of Christ. Otherwise, sooner or later, they will sink to the bottom together with your selfishness.”  ― St. Josemaria Escriva “Let yourself be vulnerable. Let your walls down, your carefully constructed fortresses breached, your fiercely guarded heart laid bare. Let your wounds be touched, your fears revealed, your deepest desires, damaged dreams, and most daring hopes unveiled before the Bridegroom, who has the power to redeem, restore, and resurrect them. Drop your independence and the idea—which you clutch so tightly—that you can do anything to protect and save yourself. And LET HIM LOVE YOU.”   ― St Elizabeth Scripture for Lectio:   “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” ―Ezekiel 36:24 - 27    Sponsor - Be Love Revolution: Ten years ago, Be Love Revolution began with the intention of helping young women know the personal and transformative love of Jesus, and empowering them to be God's love in the world today. Every August, Bishop celebrates the Mass with Perpetual Profession of Vows for the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration; so, on this episode, he breaks down what happens during this type of Mass. Then he reflects upon the important role those living a form of consecrated life have for the mission of the Church and the world. The show wraps up with these listener-submitted questions: With the USCCB conference on the importance of the Eucharist, I am concerned that in my parish Eucharistic Adoration has been reduced to a minimum of reverence by quick exposition of the Blessed Sacrament without proper vestments, usual hymn and repose of the Blessed Sacrament without usual hymn and prayers. It seems there is a rush to expose the Blessed Sacrament for the faithful and leave. When reposing the Blessed Sacrament again, no proper vestment for benediction, hymn or prayer, only a short hymn. Is this proper and acceptable now? I miss the complete reverent ritual I grew up with. This may have changed now. But appreciate your comments if this is still ongoing.  I've noticed that atheists often get angry when discussing God. Have you noticed this? Any thoughts on why this happens?  Do you have a favorite liturgical feast or solemnity? Why?

Conventional medical treatments were failing her, and she feared that she would be bedridden for the rest of her life.Dr. Wahls began studying the latest research on autoimmune disease and brain biology and decided to get her vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids from the food she ate rather than pills and supplements. To do this, she adopted the nutrient-rich Paleo diet, gradually refining and integrating it into a regimen of neuromuscular stimulation. First, she walked slowly, then steadily, and then she biked eighteen miles in a single day. In November 2011, Dr. Wahls shared her remarkable recovery in a TEDx talk that immediately went viral. On today’s Broken Brain Podcast, our host, Dhru, talks to Dr. Terry Wahls, a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa. She is also a patient with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. Dr. Wahls restored her health using a diet and lifestyle program she designed specifically for her brain and now pedals her bike to work each day. She is the author of The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine, The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles, and the cookbook, The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life: The Revolutionary Modern Paleo Plan to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions. Dr. Wahls conducts clinical trials that test the effect of nutrition and lifestyle interventions to treat MS and other progressive health problems. She also teaches the public and medical community about the healing power of the Paleo diet and therapeutic lifestyle changes that restore health and vitality to our citizens. Every August, she hosts a Wahls Protocol Seminar where anyone can learn how to implement her Protocol with ease and success. In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Wahls talk about how she stunned the medical community by reversing her painful symptoms of MS. They discuss The Wahls Protocol and how it’s transforming the lives of people with autoimmune conditions and they get into the latest scientific findings on fasting, ketosis, neurorehabilitation, and behavior change when it comes to treating MS and other autoimmune conditions. In this episode, we dive into:-Dr. Wahls’ MS diagnosis and what she did to reverse her symptoms (2:04)-How Dr. Wahls changed her diet using Paleo principles (25:15)-The important role vitamin K plays in the body, especially when it comes to myelin repair (30:54)-How immunosuppressant drugs block the repair that your brain is attempting to do (45:57)-The Wahls Protocol and how it helps other chronic autoimmune conditions (55:50)-How research gets funded (1:00:05)-How Dr. Wahls went from being banned from the National MS society to receiving funding for her research (1:10:37)-The science of fasting (1:34:18)-The importance of having a clear mission, purpose, and goal when it comes to your health (1:41:30)-Where to learn more about Dr. Terry Wahls (1:47:08)For more on Dr. Terry Wahls, be sure to follow her on Instagram @terrywahls, on Facebook @terrywahls, and on Twitter @terrywahls. Every August tens of thousands of Kurdish migrant workers, including children, toil long hours for a pittance in the mountains of northern Turkey picking hazelnuts for the spreads and chocolate bars the world adores. Turkey provides 70% of all hazelnut supplies – and the biggest buyer is Ferrero, maker of Nutella and Kinder Bueno. The confectionery giant says it’s committed to ethical sourcing, and aiming for its hazelnuts to be 100% traceable next year. But how is that possible in Turkey, with its half a million tiny family orchards, where child labour is rife? Tim Whewell investigates Ferrero’s complex supply chain and finds that while hazelnuts are celebrated in Turkish culture and song, it’s a sector where workers and farmers feel increasingly unhappy and reform is very hard to achieve.

Season 2 | Episode 21: Midwifery  Every August, U.S. Breastfeeding Committee marks this as National Breastfeeding Month. The World Health Organization (W.H.O) encourages breastfeeding for at least 6 months, with numerous benefits to the growth and development of you child. Specifically, in the last week of August, black mothers celebrate Black Breastfeeding Week. Why do back moms need a week to celebrate aside from the masses, you ask? Black Breastfeeding Week was created because for over 40 years there has been a gaping racial disparity in breastfeeding rates. The most recent CDC data show that 75% of white women have ever breastfed versus 58.9% of black women. The fact that racial disparity in initiation and even bigger one for duration has lingered for so long is reason enough to take 7 days to focus on the issue. We will dive into these factors with our guest Momologist, LaQuita Brazile.   Mahogany Mom of the Week: Kim Coombs is a mom of 3 girls homeschools and is a full time real estate agent.  Kim also a big advocate of breast feeding and sharing her birth story to help other moms Guest Momologist: LaQuita Brazile Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/midwifelaquitabrazile/ Website: https://laquitabrazile.onuniverse.com/   Podcast Partner: If you are looking for STEM activities for your 5 and up afterschool or on the weekends look no further than HAK Electronics.  Located near Downtown Dallas and Fairpark, HAK makes STEM learning cool and affordable. NET Ministries challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church. Every August, 175 young Catholics aged 18-28 leave behind their jobs, school, family, and friends to devote nine months to serving with the National Evangelization Teams (NET). UN urges world to recognize issues of indigenous people. Every August 9th, the United Nations celebrates indigenous people’s rights. The designation grew from the formation of a UN working committee on August 9, 1982, assigned to study human rights issues pertaining to indigenous people. Twelve years later in 1994, the UN decided to draw more attention to these issues by establishing the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People. The UN’s goal is to strengthen international cooperation on human rights, the environment, development, education and health where they apply to indigenous peoples. However, the UN has more than just a ceremonial day in mind. After almost a quarter century of discussions, on June 29, 2006 the UN Human Rights Council adopted the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). This declaration, which accepts the notion of “self determination” and various forms of sovereignty for indigenous people, has been accepted by most governments around the world. However, countries that feel they have the most to lose because of large indigenous populations, have not given their approval and therefore it has not been approved by the General Assembly. The United States, Australia and New Zealand strongly oppose the declaration and other African countries began voicing some concerns. While Canada helped frame the agreement years ago, the Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2007 began to move away from previous governments’ support. The result is that, when listening with headphones, instead of the sound seeming to be inside your head, the sound is outside your head exactly as recorded.
