This week, as Christopher Nolan wades back into the calamitously tense territory of the war-time historical drama with Oppenheimer, which opens in theatres opposite Barbie today, we're flexing our eye-acting skills and setting sail for France on a one-way trip to cross off the only Nolan movie neither Justin nor Hayley have ever seen before: 2017's Dunkirk, written and directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Mark Rylance, Barry Keoghan, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles, Jack Lowden, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy. It's an incredible feat of filmmaking on the kind of scale that studios seem to be fighting to take away from us, which makes it the perfect topic of discussion on the day SAG-AFTRA have joined their brothers and sisters in the WGA on the picket lines. If you'd like to watch Dunkirk before listening to our conversation, it does not appear to be streaming in Canada presently but can be rented on YouTube. We'll be back next week to close out July with another Fun Friday, as we induct Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One into the pod-canon. M:I-DR:P1 is currently screening in theaters, so we'll see you at the movies!

“Emily” tells the imagined life of one of the world's most famous authors, Emily Brontë. The film stars Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”, “Death on the Nile”) as Emily, a rebel and misfit, as she finds her voice and writes the literary classic Wuthering Heights. “Emily” explores the relationships that inspired her – her raw, passionate sisterhood with Charlotte (Alexandra Dowling – “The Musketeers”) and Anne (Amelia Gething – “The Spanish Princess”); her first aching, forbidden love for Weightman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen – “The Lost Daughter”, “The Haunting of Bly Manor”) and her care for her maverick brother (Fionn Whitehead – “The Duke”, “Dunkirk”) whom she idolises. Frances O'Connor makes her directorial debut with “Emily,” from her own original screenplay. The film also stars Adrian Dunbar (“Line of Duty”) and Gemma Jones (“Bridget Jones's Baby”, “Gentleman Jack”).

Over the last decade, Dawn King has continued to excite theatregoers with intriguing works like Foxfinder, The Trials and her adaptation of Brave New World. Today, Dawn King is looking forward to Boundless Theatre's new production of her play: Addictive Beat, starring Fionn Whitehead and Boadicaa Ricketts. The show tells the story about two music-loving friends who create a beat that's euphoric and addictive. Set in the immersive space of the Dilston Gallery at Southwark Park, audiences can expect to find themselves enraptured by Boundless Theatre's production which also features brand new music by DJ Anikdote and an original score by Dom Coyote. In the interview, Dawn reveals that the idea for Addictive Beat had been around for a while and whilst the end product has changed from it's initial genesis, she's very excited for audiences to see her new work. It's been a great year for the playwright with The Trials also recently finishing a sold-out run at Donmar Warehouse, where she challenged her audience to think about their impact on the changing climate. In this special interview, Dawn King sits down to reflect on the past decade which has seen her plays presented across the world. We also get to hear her talk about her upcoming adaptation of The Cherry Orchard which she is developing with Katie Mitchell as well as her screen adaption of Foxfinder. She admits to being an unconventional playwright, often writing pieces that she deems "high-concept" where audiences leave asking themselves questions based on ideas from her text. Throughout the conversation, Dawn maintains a humble tone as she reminds us about the challenges of being a writer but still encourages aspiring playwrights to be tenacious and not give up on their dreams. It seems we can expect more to come from her in the years ahead and we look forward to what else she brings us in the future.Addictive Beat runs at Dilston Gallery, Southwark Park from 21st September - 7 October with tickets available from the Boundless Theatre website now!

Today, I'll be reviewing a film titled “Port Authority.” It's a movie about a 20-year-old midwesterner (Fionn Whitehead) who arrives in New York City and catches eyes with a young woman (Leyna Bloom), leading to the two falling in love. Later, the young man learns that she is trans, and things get interesting. I'll be reviewing the trailer first and then the film. So spoiler alert! My Patreon! Love and hugs
Five years ago, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan gave us his first film to be based true events after a career mostly devoted to mind-bending fantasy or science fiction. And the subject matter is undeniably cinematic: the May 1940 evacuation of more than 400,000 Allied troops from the French coastal town of Dunkirk – this was a key turning point of World War II as these troops were generally trapped around a coastal bottleneck surrounded by Nazi/Axis forces closing in from various directions. This film was nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture and ended up winning three – it stars Fionn Whitehead, Harry Styles, Tom Hardy, and Kenneth Branagh among many others.Host: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Octavia Spencer is always fantastic as well as Jason Bateman and Bobby Cannavale. The problem with this movie IS Melissa McCarthy, unfortunately because she can be funny and has been on the past. All of these and more have pretty big influence in Voyagers. The Earth is used up and can't sustain human life much longer. One plan to save the human race is to repopulate other earth like planets. One such ship has created and grown baby children who will be raised and work / maintain the ship on its 86 year journey, with Collin Farrell along for the ride. Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp and Fionn Whitehead all star with a bigger cast of noticeable faces you've seen before including Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark). Fun and sci-fi fantasy come together in this expanded episode of #BTLRadioShow as we take a look at VIKES with writer/director TENNEY FAIRCHILD, and VOYAGERS with writer/director NEIL BURGER. Joining us live is writer/director TENNEY FAIRCHILD talking about his coming of age romp, VIKES. And while VIKES may have some sweet charm to it, the film also deals with some timely and topical issues and themes which are even more important today than in 2016-17 when the film was shot. Listen as Tenney talks about his process for story development and subsequently taking the words on the page and translating them into visuals, the casting process, shooting location, the importance of visual detail, and more. And we're talking VOYAGERS thanks to two of my favorite filmmakers, writer/director NEIL BURGER and production designer SCOTT CHAMBLISS. Listen to my prerecorded exclusive interviews with each of these gentlemen as we dig deep into the genesis of the film and Neil's process for crafting a world for a multi-generational space mission visually, thematically, and emotionally. While Neil discusses themes of good vs evil, human nature, science, etc., casting (among the cast, Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, and Colin Farrell), and more, Scott talks about the importance of the production design in furthering the vision of the story and the challenges of creating a physical design to not only embrace the story and visual concepts, but incorporate necessary technical elements for cinematographer Enrique Chediak. (Be on the lookout for my exclusive interview with Enrique on BehindTheLensOnline.net.) And how about a research trip to enlighten and "experience" space travel?? http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Grayson (9/10), Roger (5/10) and Chris (3/10) Judas and the Black Messiah (HBOMax) Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield are simply on a different level. They're on the level of Frances McDormand- This is a good week. Late 1960's. Northern Illinois. Political turmoil is a powder keg primed for an explosion. Black Panthers and the Police force on opposing sides with Bill O'Neal stuck in the middle, his own views blurring. When Chairman Fred Hampton talks- you listen entranced. This is a retelling of the story with incredible violence and morality lines very blurred. And Martin Sheen as J. Edgar Hoover. (7.5/10) Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Guest appearance by Christopher Boughan. Music by Chad Wall. Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett. ***Oscar Sprint Profile which means there will be spoilers*** The first 55 minutes steers clear of spoilers, and then we do the deep dive into full spoilers for the final 30 minutes. Non-Spoiler Review Production Profile - 4:33 Box Office + Awards Profile - 30:44 Expectations/Production Values - 37:33 Performances - 47:47 Spoiler Review Music - 55:08 Best/Worst Scenes - 57:26 Additional Production Profile - 1:06:05 Final Review - 1:14:28 This is our Oscar Sprint Profile for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, starring Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, every other working Anglo actor, plus some guy named Harry Styles. We remind you of Han Zimmer's brilliance, and we harken back to our Summer Movie Round Up of Mike, Mike, and Oscar episode #1 in the most metta way possible. We otherwise break new ground in this production profile, and we dive way deeper than we've ever dove before, the helm's deepest of our deep dives if you will. Wait, you won't? That was the nerdiest thing anyone has ever written? I apologize to no one. Our production profile offers miniature biographies of Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas, Fionn Whitehead (who becomes the bane of the Mikes existence for this week), Tom Hardy, and Mark Rylance. We cover the award season odyssey of the film from it's #1 contendership to its current place amongst a large field of potential trophy winners. The non-spoiler review section features our coverage of each of the production values, including the tick-tock from the family heirloom timepiece in the Hans Zimmer score, the eye popping cinematography, and we can't help but admire the death trap laden script. Then we gush over the quality over quantity factor in those epically economical performances. Our spoiler music gets your fist pumpin' like a guido in the club at 3AM, bro. Then we hit on the Harry Styles role, our best & worst scenes, and the Kenneth Branagh lines that nearly ruined the movie. We add another profile, which covers the real history of the evacuation of Dunkirk. We have all kinds of real life stats, a true story that needed telling if there ever was one. Then we end with our final grades. We're about to release a host of Oscar Sprint Profiles to cover all of the major contenders. Do stay tuned. As always, please help us spread the word about our podcast. Subscribe, like, review, follow, and message us on social media. We love hearing from you, and we'll happily read your thoughts on the air when possible. Keep listening to Mike, Mike, & Oscar as we cover the award season from wall to sound-proofed podcasting studio basement wall. Reality sucks. Watch movies with us.

Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
In Episode 58 of the Crooked Table Podcast, Robert Yaniz Jr. finally catches up with the critically acclaimed new film from writer/director Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, James D'Arcy, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles (yes, that Harry Styles) and Mark Rylance. With rich subject matter and his usual flair behind the camera, Nolan could be poised to add another classic to his already impressive resume following hits like Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception. But does Dunkirk live up to its pedigree or fail to deliver the experience longtime Nolan fans are expecting? In addition, be sure to check out the brand-new episode of the Cinemaholics podcast to hear Rob's thoughts on the new David Leitch film Atomic Blonde -- starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy -- and Marvel's The Defenders, the long-awaited Netflix miniseries uniting Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist for the first time. A dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe. Quote - "The moral to this story?
