This week we're joined by writer/director Ian Tuason, whose new A24 horror film Undertone is creeping into theaters March 13. The film plays with a deceptively simple question: what if the scariest thing in a movie isn't what you see… but what you hear later? We talk with Ian about building tension through sound, the eerie psychology of playback and EVP recordings, and why something as innocent as a children's song can suddenly feel sinister when it's heard through fresh ears. He also tells us about filming the movie in his own childhood home, the challenge of creating tension with minimal visuals, and the trust it takes to let actors experiment when they're carrying so much of the film. Plus, we get into what excites him about stepping into the world of Paranormal Activity next. And of course, Ian builds his Spook'em Scare'em Starter Kit. Headphones recommended... COME HANG OUT!!! What if the next big shift in personal audio is not about blocking the world out, but staying connected to it? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sit down with Nicole from Shokz to talk about why open-ear headphones are suddenly everywhere, and why this category is moving from niche curiosity to everyday essential. For years, the audio market was obsessed with sealing users off from the outside world. Now the conversation is changing. More people want to hear their music, podcasts, and calls without losing awareness of traffic, fellow commuters, colleagues, or the world happening around them. Nicole helps unpack what open-ear audio actually means in simple terms, and why it is resonating with runners, commuters, parents, office workers, and anyone trying to balance comfort, safety, and sound quality. We talk about the cultural shift behind this rise, from growing health and fitness habits to the way hybrid work and always-on lifestyles have changed how people use earbuds throughout the day. We also get into why Shokz has become one of the defining brands in this space. Long before open-ear audio became a trend, Shokz was investing in bone conduction, open-ear design, and the kind of product research needed to make this category work in real life. Nicole shares how years of persistence, technical innovation, and consumer education helped the company move from specialist player to category leader. During our conversation, we explore how real-world behavior shapes product design. That means thinking beyond audio specs and focusing on how headphones actually fit into daily life. Whether someone is running in the rain, commuting to work, wearing glasses, sitting in an office, or trying to stay aware while walking the dog, those everyday moments are shaping the next generation of audio devices. Nicole also talks me through some of Shokz's latest product thinking, including the OpenDots One and the OpenFit Pro. From compact clip-on designs that feel almost like wearable accessories to new approaches around noise reduction in open-ear listening, this episode looks at how the category is becoming more sophisticated and more versatile without losing the awareness that made it appealing in the first place. Looking ahead, we discuss whether open-ear audio will live alongside sealed earbuds as part of a two-device lifestyle, or whether it could eventually become the default choice for more people. We also touch on what comes next, from smarter audio experiences to the role AI and even connected glasses could play in the future of listening. So if you have been seeing the phrase open-ear audio more often and wondering what all the fuss is about, this conversation will bring it to life. Are open-ear headphones simply having a moment, or are we watching a bigger shift in how people want to hear the world around them?

Students at 16 high schools around the country will have their hearing tested during March; hearing awareness month. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Foundation's screening programme started with five secondary schools in 2019 and is aiming to reach 100 this year. It's found large numbers of teenagers are experiencing tinnitus or ringing in their ears and many of them are plugged into headphone or earbuds for hours everyday. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Foundation chief executive Natasha Gallardo spoke to Lisa Owen.

The Tim Conway Jr. Show Hour 1 (3.4) Tonight’s show kicks off with a full-on rant about parking elitists—the people who treat every curb like their personal VIP spot. Then Tim and the crew side-eye the “we just took the whole family skiing” humblebrags from TV anchors… while half the audience is living paycheck-to-paycheck. We’ve also got a straight-up feel-good survival story: Rocky, a dog missing for 43 days in Summit County, Colorado, is found alive—and the rescue team finally gets him back using a trap baited with peanut butter after weeks of setbacks. Plus: a dashcam nightmare as a boat comes loose on the 91 Freeway in Bellflower and darts across lanes like it’s trying to start its own insurance claim. Then it’s travel etiquette warfare: United may boot passengers who refuse to use headphones. And Starbucks is officially in spring mode with a fresh March 3 menu drop featuring new/returning chai, coconut, ube, and lavender flavors. We wrap with a local reset: the Sepulveda Basin cleanup push ramps up as the area preps to host multiple LA 2028 events See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Find us at https://www.patreon.com/AudioUnleashed This week, Brent and Dennis kick things off by wondering whether or not you should grind up your headphones and use them as face cream, and somehow or other that's not the silliest topic of conversation for this episode. That leaves the question of whether the silliest topic is a blind test involving audio cables, wet mud, and bananas, or is it the notion of whether your speakers would sound better if they were in the middle of a forest made of dowels. Or something like that.
Tom Hauser joins us at the start from DC after watching Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison with the House Oversight Committee earlier today. Japan has become the world's most in demand travel destination since the pandemic, but beyond cherry blossoms, bullet trains, Lawson runs, anime and those dangerously good 7-Eleven egg salad sandwiches, there's a deeper pull that audiophiles can't ignore. In this episode of the eCoustics podcast, resident Japanophile Eric Pye (@audioloveyyc) and reluctant future convert Mitch Anderson (@blackcircleradio) go all in on Japan's cultural gravity and its quiet takeover of audio: the pilgrimage to e-Earphone, late night jazz kissa listening rooms, Technics heritage, Three Blind Mice pressings, JICO styli, portable travel rigs, flying JAL, record hunting in back alleys, and why Japan still treats music as ritual instead of background noise. In this meeting of The Late Diagnosis Club, Dr Angela Kingdon welcomes Claire Samuels, a proud Autistic speech-language pathologist whose journey to self-recognition unfolded inside the very system she would later question.Claire began her career as a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) in the ABA industry, believing what she was told: that ABA was the gold standard for Autistic children. She loved the kids she worked with and believed she was making a positive impact. But as she read autistic voices, learned about interoception, and began recognising her own sensory and regulatory differences, cracks in the framework began to show.Together, Angela and Claire explore ABA, nuance, Autistic self-recognition, masking, sensory processing, burnout, and what it means to move from compliance-based therapy to connection-based communication. This episode is about shifting lenses, from behaviour to nervous systems, from control to connection, and from moral judgment to regulation.

For 20 years, it was stamped SECRET. What they discovered about your mind was never meant to reach you — until now. This isn't ancient wisdom or spiritual theory. This is documented, government-funded research conducted at Stanford Research Institute — one of the most prestigious scientific institutions in America. The findings were so significant that the program ran for over two decades with classified funding. Then, in 2003, the document was quietly declassified. The mainstream media never covered it. Academia pretended it didn't exist. It's been buried in plain sight. In this episode, I reveal: The Cold War origins of government consciousness research What Project Stargate and the Gateway Process actually discovered Why the findings were classified — and what they prove about your mind The exact 6-step protocol that military intelligence personnel were trained in A full guided activation using the declassified technique The document states that consciousness can be trained to "escape the restrictions of time and space." A US Army Lieutenant Colonel wrote this in an official report to the CIA. And they classified it. Now it's yours. This technique has been used by thousands since declassification. The results are documented. The protocol is specific. And by the end of this video, you'll have experienced it directly.
Sound is one of the fastest, most powerful systems in the human brain. It can soothe, destabilise, regulate, overwhelm - and, when used intentionally, it can become a profound tool for nervous system support. In this episode of Mindful Mondays, Ashley explores the neuroscience and lived experience of sound for neurodivergent minds. From music and rhythm as ancient emotional language, to binaural beats and brainwave states, humming and vagus nerve activation, ASMR, pink noise, and the surprising science behind tinnitus and musical ear syndrome. We also talk honestly about misophonia, loud noise sensitivity, and the cocktail party effect - and why regulation, not exposure, is the key.The episode closes with a guided theta journey using Alexander Voloshin of Healing Meditation Music's theta binaural beats - an immersive sound experience designed to gently support deep rest, insight, and recalibration. If sound has ever felt like too much - or not enough - this episode will help you understand why, and how to work with it.Headphones recommended. Our Sponsors:

When you give, it's really nothing to do with the thing itself. The thing itself is just the box. The container. What's inside the box is you. You give yourself. The gift is the giving. Receiving is about what you get. Giving is always about giving yourself. He is much in demand as an inspirational speaker both in Israel, Great Britain and the United States. Spain wants to ban social media for kids under 16, Egypt is blocking Roblox outright, and governments everywhere are flailing at the algorithmic abyss.IN THE NEWS, Elon Musk is rolling xAI into SpaceX to birth a $1.25 trillion megacorp that wants to power AI from orbit with a million satellites, because space junk apparently wasn't annoying enough. Amazon admits a “high volume” of CSAM showed up in its AI training data and blames third parties, Waymo bags a massive $16 billion to insist robotaxis are working, Pinterest reportedly fires staff who built a layoff-tracking tool, and Sam Altman gets extremely cranky about Claude's Super Bowl ads hitting a little too close to home. For MEDIA CANDY, we've got Shrinking, the Grammys, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's questionable holographic future, Neil Young gifting his catalog to Greenland while snubbing Amazon, plus Is It Cake? Valentines and The Rip.In APPS & DOODADS, we test Sennheiser earbuds, mess with Topaz Video, skip a deeply cursed Python script that checks LinkedIn for Epstein connections, and note that autonomous cars and drones will happily obey prompt injection via road signs—defeated by a Sharpie.IN THE LIBRARY, there's The Regicide Report, a brutal study finding early dementia signals in Terry Pratchett's novels, Neil Gaiman denying allegations while announcing a new book, and THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE, vibing with The Muppet Show as Disney names a new CEO. We round it out with RentAHuman.ai dread relief via paper airplane databases, free Roller Coaster Tycoon, and Sir Ian McKellen on Colbert—still classy in the digital wasteland.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Get 20% off your DeleteMe plan when you go to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use promo code GOG at checkout.SquareSpace - go to squarespace.com/GRUMPY for a free trial. DON'T TALK A workplace tension finally breaks. He invited her over. She showed up. Now she's sitting between his legs while he confesses everything — the scrolling, the staring, the moments he almost said something inappropriate. His only request: don't talk. Just listen. An intimate binaural audio experience in three parts. Headphones recommended.Content warning: Adult themes, suggestive content.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/black-widow-podcast--3614545/support.
