Driving Honda’s recently upgraded small HR-V SUV – for 2025 now available inthree models – an entry petrol and two hybrid variants. I drove the top spec HR-Vhybrid E-HEV L now $4,100 more affordable at $42,990 drive-away. This thirdgeneration Honda HR-V has now been refreshed with a minor facelift and a fewinterior updates but basically, it’s all about being more affordable although it stillsits at the higher end of small SUV pricing. This HR-V Hybrid is technicallyinnovative in the old Honda tradition, nicely built, refreshingly different andstylish to look at including a painted grille with a very practical and nicelyappointed interior for four adults rather than five. Combining a 1.5-litre petrolengine with two compact electric motors it delivers a nice balance of power andtorque and the hybrid system is technically impressive. In this episode, we have Sports Physiologist & Bioscientist, Evan Peikon. What does the physiology of a hybrid athlete look like? We can understand the physiology of individual strength and endurance sports, and through this series of the Progress Theory, we also know how strength training can have a positive effect on, for example, running performance through improved running economy. But physiologically, can the two co-exist? In this episode, Evan and I discuss the role of the cardiovascular system for hybrid training, the effect of muscle size on endurance performance, and have a go at predicting how far hybrid performance can go.
